Your videos are a great way to reduce your blood pressure and stress levels, very relaxing. An oil change can take me 2 hours. It's a greater way to forget the goings on of a busy week.
I've seen a few of your videos and have really enjoyed them, this one is no different. I know it was just you adjusting the bike to your spec, but I would love a bit more of an explanation over what you're doing, using and why. I admire the knowledge you have across a wide range of motorcycles, and would love to learn more from it. Would you consider making some guides aimed at younger, not mechanically savvy, bikers? Maybe a beginner bike series with something like a bandit or sv650? I'm 21, bike mad been riding for over a decade, got my first big bike (Suzuki 650 bandit), and love working with my hands but at my current state I don't know what to do with them!
I have to disagree with the hand tight only oil filter, but only for the purpose of sharing my experience. I changed the oil on my Blackbird, on this particular occasion I decided to go with the hand tight only method. Up until this point I had done hand tight with just a little nip of the spanner. This is because I knew it should only be hand tight, but could never bring myself to accept that. I then rode it down the motorway to work, came back to it after my night shift to find a substantial amount of oil under the bike. So I tried to tighten the filter through the fairing, but it was solid. It was also solid when I tried to loosen it too. So it wasn’t leaking because I hadn’t tightened it enough. Of course I didn’t have those sort of tools to hand so I had to get my mrs to bring them to me in the car so I could remove the fairing and tighten it to get home. I’m just glad I spotted the oil before riding off down the motorway in morning rush hour traffic. I will never hand tighten again and I’ve always used genuine Honda filters.

Hey Del, when changing the engine oil, after a bike has stood still for 2-3 years - never started up the whole time -, would it be wise to drain the old oil with a cold engine? As I don't know if it's bad to throw the old oil through the whole block first not knowing the state it is in. Also are ngk iridium plugs a good idea when replacing the older version of the same plug out? Love your videos by the way!!!!
Yes, that's exactly what i would do after so long.. no need spreading all that round the engine.. drain it out, refill with fresh oil (and a filter) before you restart it.. Id also spin it over with the plugs out for a few turns first to wet the top end before you fire it up!

And Penny got us so close to the wrenching that I had to go wash up after watching.😁 I agree with the oil filter torque except when working on big diesels that spend their days bouncing around the beautiful roads in N.Y. Good morning brother, great to hear from you as always... glad you like the bike, not so common in the States, but would be perfect for your long curvy canyons! Stay safe both of you, and have a good week! D&Px
I was half expecting you to say you had a gas/air leak in the downpipes to collector box, when you took the belly pan off!!!! Phew! Tilly the XJ900s sounds soooo sweet now, that theres no leaks anywhere in the exhaust system. I was out all day bank holiday monday. Riding here and there in the hurricane winds! I have noticed the tyre noise from the Karoo Street, but its nothing major. If the music and satnav is on inside the helmet, then I can hear it, even if its on low. Q. Any recomendations for a place to head to for a new helmet? My shark thats 14months old is annoying the crap out of me. I've now broken 4x clear visors and 2x tinted due to the way you have to take off and put on the visor. Its a problem lots of other owners have flagged up, but shark wont admit to or do anything about.
Hi Penny and Del. Another great video! I've got lots of stuff to say about this one. First, how nice that bike sounds - so sweet, just like a big inline four should. Second, that was quite an assortment of bolts holding the belly pan on. No two alike! Third, you can get a that oil filter with a nut on the end - the HF 138RC - not for tightening but makes them so easy to remove. Fourth, good to see you priming that oil filter. It's a great way to prevent oil starvation on startup. Well, I've said a mouthful. Take care, my friends. Be well and ride safe.
You're right, what a glorious fastener collection, that was impressive, did you notice there was an engine casing screw and even a battery terminal screw in there.. but hey, we've all done that, what ever works in a pinch right?.. And good call on the filter nut, arent they a simple and obvious addition?, why don't they all have them !!? but same as the air filter, i would have preferred a washable one, but that was a really good value kit, and that's what it came with.. ok for now as it all needed doing and i couldn't afford to be extravagant with all the other parts i want to buy for this bike.. Thanks again buddy, glad you enjoyed it. !
Another advantage of the 138RC is a slightly finer filter mesh. Should you notice the slightly smaller diameter in the inlet of the HiFlo air filter with a long tube inwards compared to the OEM part. I asked HiFlo: The filter was made after the pattern of the 2001 model. Suzuki changed the filter slightly after that. However, the HiFlo should have no effect on performance.
hi del when did you get this one been off line for a while m8 but i do like this bike great tip about the oil filter m8 so whats the plan for this bike atb m8 iain
When i noticed that clutch cover had been stripped back to metal my first thought was its been dropped at some point, bet you gave a sigh of relief when you took them tank pads off to find its ok lol
Yeah, i did for sure, no signs of drop damage on the bike at all.. not sure about the casing stripped bare.. may have to deal with that, they look so much better in black.!
Didn't realise that the oil can take that long to drain! I usually leave it draining for 20 minutes 😮 Bike looks much better with those mirrors on - those bar ends were too high and in the wrong place as you rightly said mate!
Surprised me too mate, usually most oil is out and finished in 20 minutes.. but it just kept coming..lol! id slowed to s drip, so i changed to the pink tray, and look how it still made a fair size puddle..! Glad you approve mate, soon be spring for some fun rides aye !
Whoa! That thing is a beast - & with some tasteful blue & white 'slabside' plastics* & a turbo kit, you've got 'Retro-on-Roids '23. in the bag! (*Replica plastics, originals will cost more £££ than your house!) Kneepads - Former owner's anti-theft ruse? "Yep, I'm 6'11", don't touch my horse." - seemed to work. - or maybe they were 4'10" 'Klingons', who absolutely relied on their rubbers as thigh-grips? Y'all : )xx

Hi Dell was that harpic toilet cleaner you used to remove the rust .off steel ?
It was indeed...
You mean your not supposed to tighten up your oil filter till the metal krinkles? Damn. LOL
Hi Delboy - do you have a link for those mirrors you’ve put on - they look smart.
Great work Del as always, I love those muscle bikes, got yourself a jem there. 👌👍
Thanks Peter👍
Great video brother!!! makes me wanna have one of those bikes they sound amazing the exhaust system it's pretty sick. Also good tip on the oil filter, so true !!!!! stay safe guys. Cheers from New York.🎉
Whats that blue stuff you put on the plug??
Blue Hylomar !
1400, hummm can I convert the current Katana to a 1340???
I would raise an inquiry with TTS they would be the right company to do such a job !
Good call, thanks for the tip now it's just a matter of how much...
Nice bike.👍
Thanks ✌️
Looks like they removed the black paint from the cases too.
Just the clutch case, the front two are bare ally from new.. and i think i will repaint the clutch case back to black !
🤘🙌🤘
Using a cat litter tray as a catch pan too?
Yeah, damn right.. £2 in 'Lidl middle aisle'..!
Did you honestly put loctite on a sump bolt?! 😂😂😂😂
No, Blue Hylomar !🙄🙄🙄🙄
Kwel video… planning drain the forks??
Yes at some point, it's on the list !
A good tip for the oil filter.👍
Great job as always. :)
hi del when did you get this one been off line for a while m8 but i do like this bike great tip about the oil filter m8 so whats the plan for this bike atb m8 iain
Hi Iain, only just got this last week, if you check the play list there is only one video before it.. so you can jump up to date !
@@Moonfleet41 cheers bud
Got the same service kit for my 2004 ZZR600 from Wemoto a few weeks ago.
Did I see you using toilet cleaner on the pipes..?
Harpic on stainless... look it up !
@@Moonfleet41 if there in decent nic I'd be sending them to a plater, look forward to see how you address them, safe riding del
Whoa! That thing is a beast - & with some tasteful blue & white 'slabside' plastics* & a turbo kit, you've got 'Retro-on-Roids '23. in the bag! (*Replica plastics, originals will cost more £££ than your house!)
Kneepads - Former owner's anti-theft ruse? "Yep, I'm 6'11", don't touch my horse." - seemed to work.
- or maybe they were 4'10" 'Klingons', who absolutely relied on their rubbers as thigh-grips? Y'all : )xx
4'10" Klingons!.....That paints a picture right there..lol! Doesn't have the same ring as a "5ft Ferengi" !😂
The Ferengi ride bikes? - or just sell off the ground that it's stood on? - they've more rules of acquisition than the tax man! : )
😂 4 different bolts holding the belly pan! Clear indication of a hack job.
Yeah, i try never to judge, i guess the guy used what he had..! although the battery terminal screw did make me smile..lol!
Everyone loves a bito beef cake, BEEFCAKE!!
What's that blue stuff you put on the screws ?
Hylomar
