Wait, so you’ve got two of the most capable off-road rigs you can get and… drive them up a dirt road that a Honda Ridgeline could easily handle? Say it ain’t so, TFL…
Have to agree with this
Screw the Ridgeline, a slammed truck could do what they did…
Tommy is slowly morphing into his Dad
Better than standing around an unpaved parking lot and talking about them (like in some TFL comparisons between off road vehicles), but barely.
At 5mph
Just realizing that this offroad test is exactly the amount of offroading that 392 and raptor owners will actually be doing lmao
Good one!
200 392 owners are going to Moab 1st weekend of october
@@mattbrew11 190 of them won't make it 🤣🤣🤣
Meanwhile, a stock JL Sport on 31" All Seasons wouldn't even need to go into 4wd to get to the top of this road.
@@mattbrew11 200 wawaweewaa
Hardly a realistic test of off-road ability. I’ve driven up country driveways that were more challenging than that. This was about as helpful as 4wd truck drag race videos.
Interesting the jeep owner is there talking about "I bought it for all this crawling capability" and literally didn't go up the OTHER trail to the same point, where he could've experimented a bit more. Seems like bench racing to me.
Did not see anything my 04 Impress couldn't have handled. Total waist of time, as usual.
Those truck drag racing videos are the worst.
I love TFL, but agree here lol.... I don't need to see 4wd drag races, and don't see this is some "versus" video.. I came here because the title set expectations lol
This was a complete waste of time.
Haven't watched a TFL video in a while and I decided to watch this because of the two vehicles involved. Not that I am in the market I just wanted to see what they could do. Having watched the video I still have no idea what either vehicle is truly capable of and I now remember why I don't watch TFL videos much anymore.
I agree. Like watching paid infomercials.
Soooo boring. Fukn snooze fest
They didn't want to break almost $180k in vehicles doing rocks and rivers.
Usually a TFL vs video is them standing beside the vehicles, just talking about them. This time they decided to drive them REAL slow on a dirt road, so they can hold radios and talk about their feelings. 😂😂
I think I prefer the former lol
I wanted a head up race
I must politely say I was expecting much more challenging conditions, based on the vehicles and the title of the video. I did enjoy the in-seat, real-time perspectives from the two drivers, though.
Before watching this video: “I want to watch a good comparison video to learn about both vehicles.”
After watching this video: “ I want to watch a good comparison video to learn about both vehicles.”
That 392 sound 😍
We know the specs and features at this point Give me more outside footage and less talking. Thanks
I miss the cliffhanger days.
I was really hopeful for real off-roading in this video. Neat to see the vehicles together but overall a let down.
Love this collaboration of you two working together. Thank you guys for doing it.
Love the channel. Was super excited to see this video. You basically trail rode and talked the whole way through? Was expecting a legit off road comparison video.
Same
They talked about their feelings the whole time 😂
As an oldtimer, I'd prefer a n/a V8 for long-time use
It's not just because you're an old timer. It's because a N/A V8 is superior. Especially where durability is a concern. Those high horse powered low displacement engines that they are putting in the Broncos are just one heat soak away from a blown head gasket, cracked heads, or worse. Everyone knows that heat kills, and with these engines Ford should have made the Raptor heat extraction hoods standard on all of them. Sadly the new Broncos will not be legacy vehicles like the old broncos. They are disposable. It won't be too long before we see the engines, trannies, and transfer cases ripped out and replaced with proven equipment. NP205's, Turbo 400's, and pushrod 5.0's with Holly EFI running the show.
I couldn't agree more, I prefer the Bronco over the jeep but the N/A V8 is a far more superior engine.
"Ford just put the Coyote in the Bronco & be done with it"
Can we see v8 on gladiator??
Id like to see more small displacement V8's in offroad vehicles under 5.3 C.I. They're light, small, reliable, torque for days, and have a great sound. I remember when the 1st gen Colorado and the Hummer H3 alpha came with an optional 5.3 V8, I wanted on so bad. They both sold pretty well too.
Good explanations and they are what I’d expect. Still, it would be awesome to actually see these two vehicles tackle tough obstacles to see how they do. Maybe that’s pointless since they can both go anywhere and you don’t want to damage them. I guess if you run Holy Cross someone is going to have damage lol 😂
We’re taking Broncos and Jeeps on Holy Cross, but I need a 392 extreme recon or it’s going to be Blanca all over again lol. You interested or is yours still too new? 😉🤣
@@coloradomallcrawlers Hey Dewie! I actually turned down the Sarge green 392 (didn’t love the color in person) and I put in an order for a high velocity 392 with the extreme recon package. It should be a couple of months before it arrives, so I may not be able to hit it with you before the snow starts flying. I definitely have no trouble getting a new 392 out in the rocks!
@@grisa12345 I’d like to see that! Stay in touch, our schedules are nuts, but I think we’re having fun filming stock Bronco & stock Jeep trail guides that’ll we’ll keep doing it.
I think we would all be happy if we had either a 392 Wrangler or the Bronco Raptor.
I would sell the Ford, my family is not a Ford family. Chevy family
@@thereisnopandemic
That's a great story.....thanks for sharing!!
I bet you like shiny things also.
@@thereisnopandemic Yeah bro I'd like totally sell the Ford because my family is a Rolls Royce family.
😂
Did they even need 4WD for this trail?
Don’t think so lmao
No.
Ummm, no, I was behind them filming in my Camry.
Kind of a pointless question. They're both ridiculously capable and can do 105% of anything you need them to
You can def find which is better through extensive testing. Your comment is lazy. The bronco has an independent front suspension, and much wider base. That alone makes it much different, and frankly only suitable for one type of off road environment.
@@heytherebato lol, if by one type, you mean every type, except low speed crawling. The 392 is pointless for anything but sounding cool and bragging that you have a v8. A Willys Sport model with the Xtreme Recon is a better rock crawler than the 392.
@@mechmat12345 and yet we are comparing it to the bronco, are you saying the bronco would do better rock crawling with the IFS? I think not. The jeep has a flat out better platform. Many offroad videos would do you well, the jeep's extra power more than suffices at lower gears without revving it, thats the bonus of a v8 vs the turbocharged engine under the ford's hood.
The fact y’all can get invited one of my other favorite car reviewer (Ben Hardy) this gets a mega like. Good job TFL for a great review as always!
as always cool, smooth video, but that trail was reaaaaaally easy for those beasts and you know that. I feel like having those 2 and doing just that is kind of disappointing and a missed opportunity...
Now, take the 392 and RAPTOR TO Utah or Cali and do some desert running and compare. Put them both in their prime element.
At 14:24 I cracked up when the dramatic, heroic, epic music starts... while they drive these monsters down a nicely prepped road. I imagined a guy in a Honda Accord behind them honking because they are holding him up. 🤪
Ah man Tommy, love your videos usually, but this was disappointing. I thought you guys were going to go up Radical Hill (altho I wouldn’t recommend that with the width of the raptor). Webster is too easy for those vehicles and most of us know the breakdown of the differences of those two. You know we all want to see the bronco raptor vs recon 392 actually wheeling and that’s what the thumbnail makes us think we’re getting. Still, your videos are great so this is just constructive feedback because I’m disappointed, but secreting hoping you’ll reply that you were heading to red cone for video and it’s coming!
sorry to bug... this is Webster Pass? i've done Red Cone... didn't come down Webster. came back through Keystone. for some reason i've heard Webster is somewhat hard... but now i'm guessing some say that due to how narrow the road gets at points and the shelf road. we saw a shit ton of side by sides heading down that road. i am a subscriber to your account as well. info is much appreciated!
@@hzeat This is Webster Pass, north side. I’ve been hearing people say that too and when I ran it recently, expected it to be severely rutted out. It wasn’t. My guess is people are accidentally getting on radical hill which is difficult. Handcart gulch, the south side of Webster Pass has more of a pucker factor due to a spot on the shelf road that is eroded tho. Both sides of Webster are easy trails though… I didn’t use 4WD low anywhere on this. It’s very pretty tho.
@@coloradomallcrawlers thank you much for the response. def sounds like a nice, chill, drive for fall colors.
The big difference is that you can walk into a Jeep dealer and order one of these, take delivery within the year, and pay MSRP. Good luck with the Ford.
MSRP for a 392? Mmkay.
MSRP for any vehicle? What are you on because I would love some of it!
@@floof4444 You should probably actually go look into buying a car, rather than just parroting what rando's on the internet say about buying a car. Call around, you will find Jeep dealers that will agree to MSRP or even below, even on things like the 392. Now if you walk onto a dealer lot and want to buy one they have sitting there the same day, then you're boned and honestly you deserve it. But Ford won't even sell most people the Bronco Raptor and the few they allow to buy one will be paying huge markups, that Ford ENCOURAGES. Ford is hands down the WORST run domestic automaker right now.
@@cummins24421 oh I have been looking. Been looking to get rid of my jeep for awhile. But EVERYONE , not just Ford are marking up prices. Honestly would rather fix up my jeep than get a new car.
Well we already knew Tommy’s option on the jeep he says it in every video
Need more to this series, great start, now let's see some terrain diversity. High speed in Limon, Hard core altitude testing, and end in Moab
This video could have been SO much better had there been a minivan silently trailing behind the two of these rigs. Don't acknowledge it. Just pan back with the camera every once in awhile. Peak at it every few minutes through the rearview mirror. Catch just like half of it every once in awhile with the drone. 👍
Great collaboration! You and Ben compliment each other very well. Great Vid.
Honestly the bronco and the 392 are rlly good vehicles. If I was looking for decent off-road ability and a fun daily with a lot of power I’d go with the 392. But if I knew I was going to rip it around a dessert and drive it aggressively I’ll go with the braptor
Awesome! I love Ben’s channel! He helped me find my truck 😊
Great video! Good to see yall working with Ben! I hope yall do more videos together.
Is ben the guy that does the dealershipBorrow reviews?
Now let's see an actual off road challenge between these two vehicles! Let's GO!!
Good to see Ben with you testing out the vehicles.
My experience owning a 392 and now owning a bronco raptor, for me the decision was absolute comfort, both are extremely fun to drive, in regards to the size of the bronco I’m used to driving big vehicles 1 ton trucks modified jeeps with 40 inch tires and wider axles etc., Once you get a little bit of saddle time in the bronco raptor it does not feel big, for me the big difference is when I’m backing up on a tight trail the visibility is not as good as the jeep, other than that it comes down to your personal preference but if you want comfort I definitely recommend bronco raptor, you cannot beat the sound of the hemi and the fun factor but then again bronco raptor every time I see railroad tracks driving down the road I jump on it it’s so much fun to go fast over bumps and off roading is amazing, If your rock crawling definitely I feel the jeep is better but the bronco raptor is more than capable, for someone like myself who does more overland and towing a modified teardrop trailer bronco has been great but also the 392 was great.
what a test! Truly a challenge, not even for my Subaru Outback:( thanks TFL and Ben Hardley!
Love this collaboration…we need more of this
The Jeeps manual transfer case lever is so much better than any knob or button others offer. Thank you automakers that still offer transfer case levers
Good to see TFL giving a fellow RUclipsr a hand up. I just checked out Ben’s RUclips, it looks like he could use a little boost.
As a loyal follower TFL I officially christen y'all as the "Dynamic Duo"! Y'all are like two rappers that never skip a beat.

"Let's take the most extreme off road machines to the easiest trail we can find, then drive really slow so we can hold our radios and discuss our feelings"
😂
Love how the GX is chillin in the background at @16:04
Love the collab with Ben hardy great video would love to see some hardcore rock crawling between the 2 just to see how the Bronco handles it
To me, neither of these vehicles is truly off road capable because I'd never off road an $80,000 to $90,000 vehicle. Awesome but way too expensive. Great comparison though
depends how much money youve got I guess. To some people with a "fleet" of expensive vehicles in their garage, an 80k jeep isnt anything
@@jakes5530 I agree, that's why I prefaced my statement with "to me". While I could technically buy one of these vehicles, with financing, I would never spend that on one. Let alone take it and do serious off roading.
@@dalejones4322 Pointless comment. If I asked you what an acceptable price for an off-road vehicle would be, any amount you could say is too expensive to someone and/or a ridiculously low number for someone else. Plenty of people off road in $100k+ rigs, rendering your comment unnecessary self aggrandizing.
@@mechmat12345 I started my comment by saying "To me" to make sure people knew it was my opinion. It's funny you took the time to respond to what you call a pointless comment. The point of my comment was these vehicles would be too expensive for ME to off-road. No need to insult me and tell me that I think I am some sort of authority. They ask us to tell them what we think in the comments. Right?
I am just so happy that both of these exist. I am happy that Ford is making vehicles that are this capable for high speed stuff and I am happy that Jeep has kept the wrangler solid front axle (if not consumers wouldn't have the choice of having a live axle if that is their preference).
I’m so glad I went with a frontier pro 4x vs a gladiator for the IFS. Both are very attractive off pavement focused trucks, and yes I’ll readily admit that the gladiator would be better off-road, however, most of my driving is commuting on 2 lane curvy highways to work where the IFS is way nicer.
Not to mention my version of off road is exploring forestry service roads & similar trails. 4 high is usually all I need, though the ability in the frontier to go 4 low with a locking rear diff means anything in the trails I go to is zero problems even with non aggressive all terrains.
My mazda 3 could make it on that stuff, need a rougher trail! Love the videos tho guys, dont get it wrong, you guys rock!
Jeep if your watching, we want v8 gladiator or tti6 gladiator, NEED 400 hp!
Really cool to see my two favorite car channels in one video.
This is like an Alien vs predator moment for me as I watch both TFL Offroad and Ben Hardy. For some reason this made the video even better.
Can't wait for the part two of the video where they take them 4 wheeling!
Ya'll are wonderful...but the majority of the trail could happily be handled by my old, Volvo wagon...and it has that sweet, 5-cylinder sound! : P
Locker engagement is the same for both. Jeep just happens to flash the locker light until it's fully engaged while the bronco either turns the light on or off, not exactly showing if it's in the process of engaging. They both have Dana axles.
Great review thx
Cool video, from the two top dogs. Being a V-8, I can say even as a Bronco fan, it's hard to compete, the 392 sounds sweet. I imagine that as elevation grows, the Raptor would start to close the performance gap.
A 7.3 Bronco would be great.
@@scottythebody0811 lol never going to happy. We’d be lucky if they shoe horn the 5.0 in it ever
@@findingxeno3285
I agree. That Coyote is a huge engine dimensionally. The 6.2 or 7.3 power curve would be better suited.
These trucks cost so much that even review channels don’t want to challenge them off-road lol
A two-door Wrangler with the V8 and manual transmission, that would be a dream car.
A death trap but a dream rig for sure.
You must be a maniac if you want a 500HP Wrangler with a manual. There’s a reason why it only comes with an automatic. It would be like the original Dodge Viper all over again, and it’s crazy how that car was even deemed street legal.
Both awesome and capable vehicles. I like the size of the Bronco and comfort. Sounded like something was loose on the Jeep when the rear axle camera view was on.
I heard that too lol
My two favorite Jeepers! Tommy and Ben! Great video guys!
Hey guys, I enjoy your honest tests, we would like to see more mud but it's you style and you made a great job. I believe we are living an offroad vehicles Golden era just like the 60s muscle cars, 90s JDM cars, etc. Maybe 30 - 40 years later we will see this cars with some nostalgia.
Love the team up!
Great vid. Feels like a mini Top Gear episode.
Wow, great to see Ben in the video… and as a Ford guy, my vote is for…the Jeep all day every day.
Now when are you guys going to take these for an off road test? That’s a long driveway btw
Guys! I love the Cow Boy Movie music you used in this video. If I ever get to Colorado to enjoy that to a four-wheel drive territory out there, I believe I should like to play that cowboy music when we get above the treeline, or when hit the summit....
I miss the days of cliffhanger 2.0. I didnt think it was possible to make a boring video with both of these vehicles in it, but here we are.
My two sub's come together for a chill video on the trail. I think Ben Hardy would be a great addition to the TFL Team.
I do love tfl information but i would have liked to see the two shine on a much rougher trail
The owners of the vehicles probably don’t want to risk damaging anything
Super cool you guys did a video together. 👍🏾
awesome collaboration! Hope you get more opportunities!
Awesome partnership!
Nice to see Ben on TFL
My friend ran his 392 jeep against a 392 challenger on the highway. He took the hit but he said he pulled some but it took 2 or 3 gears to catch back up with him. Sounded impressive to me because I’ve seen the 392 challenger run and they are beastly.
No 392 Jeep is going to catch up to a Challenger 392, unless the Challenger is waiting lol. The engine is retuned for the Jeep lol.
You guys have the two most off-road capable production vehicles available today, doing a comparison of them, and all you do is drive them on a dirt road?!?!? No challenging obstacle comparisons? No actual articulation comparisons? No actual approach and departure angle comparisons? WTF guys?
Colorado is flippin beautiful!
Great video of you guys talking on walkie talkies.
Nice podcast!!
Woohoo! Ben Hardy and TFL!
For listeners ears, please try not to include the voices coming through the walkie radios but rather the actual person speaking instead. The radios give a very harsh and ear piercing sound when coming through the recording.
That's my dream 392. Only thing I would add is half doors
Ben’s got a great RUclips channel … as well as a fantastic vehicle collection!!!!

Awesome!! Would love to see more of Ben on the channel. Been watching him for a while. Nice colab!!!
One big plus for the Wrangler... You can actually find one to buy... Great video from two of my favorites.
Where is the off roading??? Super disappointed with all the cross talking and no obstacle comparing. Come on TFL!
I like the fact that there’s a plain Jane Lexus GX in the background
A good overview comparison of the two, but was hoping you guys would be running a real trail, because nobody has actually done a real comparison of the two on a trail.
Both are a really nice vehicle, to bad they didn't get tested for what they're built for, I wish I could see them head to head off road, no just drive up the trail.
As soon as I saw that flat pink I knew it had to be his lol.
My 1988 f250 I built fully custom has a 3.9 isuzu 4bd1t I would of used a 4bt cummins but there wayyyyy to expensive. I run stock f250 rims with a bias ply looking tire but I also have my street tire set for long road trips 5 speed manual and 3:73 gears. I usually run 55mph-65mph best mpg is between those 2 even with all the lift and stuff I lost like I believe almost 100 pounds maybe more idk. I get 23.5 mpg with my aggressive tires at 65mph with my street tires ive almost hit 30 mpg a few times.
I went to that spot one time in my slammed civic. Very nice view.
@BenHardy you made it bro haha 🇺🇸🏁
My stock 1996 Toyota Camry could go on this “off road trail” I was expecting a lot more from you TFL
TFL already has a raptor, I still havent even seen a normal one at my local dealer lol
I think the color of that jeep goes perfect with Bud Light,
This is not a real challenge. Let's wait for a true challenge. I'm not satisfied about this video, but I would take it as first impressions. Thank you.
392 exhaust clip reminded me of the Detroits in Maximum Overdrive
That 392 exhaust tho… wow!
