It's not just because you're an old timer. It's because a N/A V8 is superior. Especially where durability is a concern. Those high horse powered low displacement engines that they are putting in the Broncos are just one heat soak away from a blown head gasket, cracked heads, or worse. Locker engagement is the same for both. Jeep just happens to flash the locker light until it's fully engaged while the bronco either turns the light on or off, not exactly showing if it's in the process of engaging. They both have Dana axles.

I am just so happy that both of these exist. I am happy that Ford is making vehicles that are this capable for high speed stuff and I am happy that Jeep has kept the wrangler solid front axle (if not consumers wouldn't have the choice of having a live axle if that is their preference).
I’m so glad I went with a frontier pro 4x vs a gladiator for the IFS. Both are very attractive off pavement focused trucks, and yes I’ll readily admit that the gladiator would be better off-road, however, most of my driving is commuting on 2 lane curvy highways to work where the IFS is way nicer. Not to mention my version of off road is exploring forestry service roads & similar trails. 4 high is usually all I need, though the ability in the frontier to go 4 low with a locking rear diff means anything in the trails I go to is zero problems even with non aggressive all terrains.
This is not a real challenge. Let's wait for a true challenge. I'm not satisfied about this video, but I would take it as first impressions. Thank you.
Wow, great to see Ben in the video… and as a Ford guy, my vote is for…the Jeep all day every day. Now when are you guys going to take these for an off road test? That’s a long driveway btw
For listeners ears, please try not to include the voices coming through the walkie radios but rather the actual person speaking instead. The radios give a very harsh and ear piercing sound when coming through the recording.
My friend ran his 392 jeep against a 392 challenger on the highway. He took the hit but he said he pulled some but it took 2 or 3 gears to catch back up with him. Sounded impressive to me because I’ve seen the 392 challenger run and they are beastly.
Unless you're talking about a different drag race at 6:05 My Jeep, (TROGDOR) you ran down the air strip was stock but it had the XR pkg so it's on 35s.
I didn't know crawling ability is dictated by suspension, I would have thought gear ratios? In my experience independent front suspension is better than solid axles crawling as it's softer, less choppy or jarring and doesn't bounce as much so steering is easier.
Yeah that's BS, people have done mpg tests in the 392 xtreme recon and it gets about 16mpg highway. Unless he's saying the mpg in the 2.0 also sucks, he's wrong.
As an owner of both the 2.0 XR and 392 XR, the 392 XR does *********NOT********** get better gas mileage. It's not even close!!!! Just tossing this out there so people aren't misled. Avg mpg on 392 XR (mix of highway/city): 9.5 mpg Avg mpg on 2.0 XR (mix of highway/city): 17.5 mpg I will say I tend to be more in the pedal on the 392 -- but even so, city to city, highway to highway -- grandma driving, it's still not close. Love my 392, though, and next will be getting full suspension, 37's, skids etc. Did great stock in Moab with just a spacer lift and some temporary tires. The 4.56's really help. But if I'm going camping or something like that, i'll take the 2.0 for the range.
I know this is a little selfish, but all the judging of Jeep vs Bronco aside. I love that the Jeep color, (which I don’t care for. Ok a little judging.) is named Tuscadero. As in ‘Pinky Tuscadero’ from ‘Happy Days’, (under 40? It was a TV show.), my Uncle Gary’s show.
"Let's take the most extreme off road machines to the easiest trail we can find, then drive really slow so we can hold our radios and discuss our feelings" 😂
A good overview comparison of the two, but was hoping you guys would be running a real trail, because nobody has actually done a real comparison of the two on a trail.
Cool video, from the two top dogs. Being a V-8, I can say even as a Bronco fan, it's hard to compete, the 392 sounds sweet. I imagine that as elevation grows, the Raptor would start to close the performance gap.
Vinyl flooring seems to wear pretty quickly though. For my job we have Explorers that have the vinyl flooring and they wear pretty quickly within two years.
Why. Why pick this trail? Seriously!? Two of the most capable from factory vehicles on the planet and we take them on a dirt road... Jesus lmao. I have three vehicles and off road every single one of them. A 2012 Ford Focus with a 5-Speed Manual, 2016 Ford Fusion, and a 2023 Bronco Sport Badlands. All three of my cars would have made it up that. Before I got my Bronco I would take the Focus on dirt and went to places I can guarantee a stock Focus has never seen. Yet here we are, basically mall crawling lmao...
My 1988 f250 I built fully custom has a 3.9 isuzu 4bd1t I would of used a 4bt cummins but there wayyyyy to expensive. I run stock f250 rims with a bias ply looking tire but I also have my street tire set for long road trips 5 speed manual and 3:73 gears. I usually run 55mph-65mph best mpg is between those 2 even with all the lift and stuff I lost like I believe almost 100 pounds maybe more idk. I get 23.5 mpg with my aggressive tires at 65mph with my street tires ive almost hit 30 mpg a few times.
One of the other things you did not mention is the transfer case. Electric or manual! When there is a problem in the 4 wheel drive with the ford the t-case switches to 2 wheel and that all you will get. At least with manual you are in 4 wheel drive period. When off road, that can be the difference between tow recovery or driving out. Jeep still hands down is better for off road.
The big question is, has Ford beefed up the IFS to the Ram TRX level or even the F150 Raptor level? The Raptor Bronco might be the vehicle I wish I could have bought in 2004 when I bought my Ford Explorer 4wd. But also having a '96 Jeep ZJ project vehicle. For at least back in 2004. The live axle Jeep WJ would have been the better buy for versatility. But the LSD in the Explorer never left me stuck in snow. Even when the snow came up to the hood. These situations were on fresh powdery snow. But the Bronco did scare Jeep into offering the Extreme Recon package. So the Bronco is a very good thing for us the vehicle buyer! If I traded in my Ram 1500 today. I would buy an Extreme Recon Jeep with 4.56 gears and the Ecodiesel. A 392 only if I couldn't get the Ecodiesel.
Just to help out the reviewers, a 2 inch taller tire adds up to 1 inch greater ride height. That means the Wrangler has a natural .8 inch better clearance. Don't think this review settled much.
The Jeep had a rattle in the rear. Was it the camera? The width of the Bronco Raptor would be a deal breaker for me. The prices of both knock me out. Good video!!
I have seen Honda Civics drive up more difficult roads than this. I’m not saying you need to bash the trucks, but you should choose trails difficult enough to warrant actually using 4H or 4L/locking diffs/swaybar disconnects, etc.
You guys have the two most off-road capable production vehicles available today, doing a comparison of them, and all you do is drive them on a dirt road?!?!? No challenging obstacle comparisons? No actual articulation comparisons? No actual approach and departure angle comparisons? WTF guys?
You couldn't be more incorrect Ben; anyone could have placed an order for a Raptor as I did. I was also able to get MRSP as most dealers were asking 10-25K premiums.
Was hoping we’d see some sort of 4x4 comparison, driving up a flat graded dirt road tested nothingn at all, I’ll have to look around for an actual off-road comparison I guess.
I am debating between those two rigs. The fact that Ford Bronco Raptor doesn’t have air conditioning for the back passengers at $80+K most likely be a deal breaker. Your thoughts?
Yes it does, the vents are just on the floor instead of the center console. Both of these vehicles are $30k vehicles with a ton of upgrades, that's not really a insult to one or the other.
Quite honestly 80% of what yuo drive is on normal roads The few times you have to drive offroad of those times you can just take it easy the seats in the Bronco are a hundred times better than jeep Better space inside the car

They ask us to tell them what we think in the comments. Right?
This is like an Alien vs predator moment for me as I watch both TFL Offroad and Ben Hardy. For some reason this made the video even better.
Thank you.
Great video! Good to see yall working with Ben! I hope yall do more videos together.
Is ben the guy that does the dealershipBorrow reviews?
Wow, great to see Ben in the video… and as a Ford guy, my vote is for…the Jeep all day every day.
Now when are you guys going to take these for an off road test? That’s a long driveway btw
I miss the days of cliffhanger 2.0. I didnt think it was possible to make a boring video with both of these vehicles in it, but here we are.
Y’all should definitely talk Ben into running that 392 through the tumbleweed off-road course.
For listeners ears, please try not to include the voices coming through the walkie radios but rather the actual person speaking instead. The radios give a very harsh and ear piercing sound when coming through the recording.
Good to see TFL giving a fellow RUclipsr a hand up. I just checked out Ben’s RUclips, it looks like he could use a little boost.
Love seeing @benhardy on the channel! Great video. Have to go with the 392 though because of the 6.4 hemi sound.
My mazda 3 could make it on that stuff, need a rougher trail! Love the videos tho guys, dont get it wrong, you guys rock!
My friend ran his 392 jeep against a 392 challenger on the highway. He took the hit but he said he pulled some but it took 2 or 3 gears to catch back up with him. Sounded impressive to me because I’ve seen the 392 challenger run and they are beastly.
No 392 Jeep is going to catch up to a Challenger 392, unless the Challenger is waiting lol. The engine is retuned for the Jeep lol.
Now let's see an actual off road challenge between these two vehicles! Let's GO!!
Good to see Ben with you testing out the vehicles.
Drive them both 100 over Baja roads and see who survives.
Awesome! I love Ben’s channel! He helped me find my truck 😊
I'm always blown away at the beauty of Colorado. It really is the Garden of Eden. Probably not a bad idea to take some oxygen with you.
what a test! Truly a challenge, not even for my Subaru Outback:( thanks TFL and Ben Hardley!
Correct me if Im wrong here, is he saying the 2.0t gets the same mpg as the 392...?
Yeah that's BS, people have done mpg tests in the 392 xtreme recon and it gets about 16mpg highway. Unless he's saying the mpg in the 2.0 also sucks, he's wrong.
Love how the GX is chillin in the background at @16:04
As an owner of both the 2.0 XR and 392 XR, the 392 XR does *********NOT********** get better gas mileage. It's not even close!!!! Just tossing this out there so people aren't misled.
Avg mpg on 392 XR (mix of highway/city): 9.5 mpg
Avg mpg on 2.0 XR (mix of highway/city): 17.5 mpg
I will say I tend to be more in the pedal on the 392 -- but even so, city to city, highway to highway -- grandma driving, it's still not close.
Great collaboration! You and Ben compliment each other very well. Great Vid.
Was that an off-roading video?
"Let's take the most extreme off road machines to the easiest trail we can find, then drive really slow so we can hold our radios and discuss our feelings"
😂
That's my dream 392. Only thing I would add is half doors
My two sub's come together for a chill video on the trail. I think Ben Hardy would be a great addition to the TFL Team.
A 7.3 Bronco would be great.
@@scottythebody0811 lol never going to happy. We’d be lucky if they shoe horn the 5.0 in it ever
@@findingxeno3285
I agree. That Coyote is a huge engine dimensionally. The 6.2 or 7.3 power curve would be better suited.
I like the fact that there’s a plain Jane Lexus GX in the background
I do love tfl information but i would have liked to see the two shine on a much rougher trail
The owners of the vehicles probably don’t want to risk damaging anything
I would much rather own a green Bronco than a pink Jeep. Oh BTW, Barbie called, she wants her Jeep back.
Did TFL upgrade the camera fleet? Looks crisp and sharp.
Good channel, wrong title for the video
Awesome!! Would love to see more of Ben on the channel. Been watching him for a while. Nice colab!!!
Since I already own a Wrangler my next will be a Bronco. Bronco will be my overlander and Wrangler my rock crawler.
Colorado is flippin beautiful!
Ya'll are wonderful...but the majority of the trail could happily be handled by my old, Volvo wagon...and it has that sweet, 5-cylinder sound! : P
Ultimate extreme offroaders??? You gotta ad the Ford Raptor and TRX, whch BOTH will smoke the 2 trucks in your video.
Would be cool if, in this off-road head to head, you went anywhere a stock Honda Pilot couldn't.
You were at Webster Pass! You could've gone up Red Cone, got to the same place, and showed the vehicles doing something challenging.
Personally, I would want the wrangler 392 because even if you do 50-50 on road and off-road all that extra power on road would be so much fun.
Hey guys, an '84 Lada could do that trail come on now...
The Jeep had a rattle in the rear. Was it the camera? The width of the Bronco Raptor would be a deal breaker for me. The prices of both knock me out. Good video!!
sounded like an exhaust rattle to me.
You definition of off roading sure differs from mine. Any capable suv could drive up a dirt road like that
Tommy asking: what do you like better, the Wrangler 392 or the bronco raptor?
Me answering: yes!
These trucks cost so much that even review channels don’t want to challenge them off-road lol
Where is the off roading??? Super disappointed with all the cross talking and no obstacle comparing. Come on TFL!
woah, new cameras??? What did you guys get? Looks so much better! Please share camera and lens!!!
One big plus for the Wrangler... You can actually find one to buy... Great video from two of my favorites.
Quite honestly 80% of what yuo drive is on normal roads The few times you have to drive offroad of those times you can just take it easy the seats in the Bronco are a hundred times better than jeep Better space inside the car
TFLs location is interesting because naturally aspirated vehicles perform completely different where you are than were the rest of us live. :/ I can’t say the jeep would be appealing at high elevation without some hair dryers bolted on.
Ben said Tuscadero was only available in 2022. They made 78 (23 XR) in 2021.
