  • In this video the Dude goes over how to setup your Brazilian White Tarantula Kit featuring the Dude's Terra Aranea. This is for a smaller specimen that will be eventually upgraded to a 40 breeder. I discuss the care, how to setup your kit and the benefits of bioactive with this species. I am very happy with how this video turned out and I think the Nhandu Coloratovitallis will love it and thrive! Don't forget to check out Tom's Big Spiders for more awesome arachnid RUclips content.

Man, this terrarium build turned out beautiful!
Thanks for making this video! I don’t even own a tarantula nor do I plan on owning one any time soon, but I still watched the whole vido haha. I wish there were a lot more people like you in the reptile and arachnid hobby making great content like this on RUclips. You can really tell that you care about the animal’s well-being.
I do have one question, though. I have done very similar bio-active terrarium builds in the past with live plants for various species of lizards and skinks that require a more topical humidity similar to this species of tarantula, but in my builds, I always found it necessary to create a shallow drainage layer at the bottom with clay balls or gravel separated from the soil by window screen mesh or gardening fabric that would allow me to siphon out the excess water that would eventually build up over time.
Whenever I have done it the way you did in this video, the substrate seemed to always eventually become too saturated and begin to mold excessively because more water would seep down through the substrate and stay at the bottom of the tank than would evaporate out of the substrate. Idk if I was just over-watering the plants, but they always seemed to struggle if I cut back on watering in attempt to dry up the substrate a little bit to prevent the inevitable mildew smell it would get. That was a bit of a long back story haha, but what would you recommend for these situations like mine? the drainage layer has solved all of my saturated substrate problems and my plants and reptiles are currently thriving, but it is a little bit of a pain to have to siphon our dirty terrarium water. idk if my problem is even considered a problem by more experienced reptile/arachnid keepers in the hobby, but any input from you or your viewers is more than welcome! Cheers!

Any chance you could do a video for fossorial tarantulas? I currently have a Cyriopagopus lividus and a Cyriopagopus minax that seem to be doing well in terrariums with about 7.5” of your Terra Aranea substrate. You always seem to have a way of making your terrariums very secure by giving the animals plenty of cover and hides but at the same time making the terrariums themselves look neat and appeasing to the human eye.

I’m wondering so much becuz it’s difficult to find information on this species and I have one that I’m about to put into my first bioactive inclosure and ofc Yur sold out of all Yur specific kits tho. I’m kinda piecing mine together this time. Just wish my isopods n springtails would hurry up and arrive. Anyway if yu could verify this species for me please I would very much appreciate it.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It is common to not be able to find much information on some species unfortunately, i would recommend going into the bio dude bioactive group on facebook and asking if anyone keeps any there, as well as Arachnid specific groups. We would love to help you get a kit together, we expect our cork shipment this week for the kits, please reach out to our customercare@thebiodude.com team with your enclosure size and information so we can get you quoted! Dude...right off the bat, wrong name. Its a Nhandu coloratovillosus not "coloratovatillis" or whatever you said...you made up a name. And the common name you said is also made up, Brazilian black and white is what this species is called. Amd again with the humidity requirements...they dont need no 75% humidity bro. Not this species. Stick to your reptiles and such. Also, Nhandu DONT web a lot. Very little do they web. Keep tarantulas for a cpl years, many species, before doing these videos so you know exactly what you're talking about.

Lol dude that is what I said - Maybe I didn't say it exactly on point, but ya know its not only typed in the description but I was pretty clear. That and I have been keeping T's on and off since 2002 - And I never said 75% humidity, bro - I stated that's going to be the intermittent high. I also have one of my employees who has been breeding T's and working with them for over 12 years who aided in this project - Ill be sticking with what the breeder, Amber and honestly what everyone else has guided me to provide proper care. Ill be sure to keep you guys in the loop!
