      Did you check that you do not have a magnet missing on the big enclosure..? I have about 100 of these and when I shake upside down the lids don’t fall off at all... However I did receive one with a missing magnet and that did just fall off if shook upside down, but quickly got a replacement free and fast...

    • @tarantulacollective
      @tarantulacollective  3 года назад

      @@simonhollom591 as I said in the video, there were 3 large magnets on the enclosure, and when I twist it around I could feel them lock into place. When I held it upside down it didn't fall, but with the a little pressure the lid popped off. But that was only on the largest enclosure, all the small ones stayed attached with no issues.

    • @simonhollom591
      @simonhollom591 3 года назад

      @@tarantulacollective yes but inside the actual lid that detaches was one missing... you can feel them if you run your finger around the lid... they feel like bumps and mine was missing one... you could not actually see it as the ones in the lid are hidden between a sandwich of two plastic lids bonded together...
      I have literally shook my even larger enclosure it’s a 30cm wide to death upside down... It doesn’t fall off...
      I can even pick it up by the lid only, whilst it is fully setup with substrate and decor etc...
      There is definitely something a miss with your enclosures...

    H. mac #2 almost made a run for it. Good thing it decided to stay in. The large cylindrical enclosures really need to be more sturdy. A great example as to why you always pick up any enclosures by the base, never by the sides, because it's easy to lose your grip and drop it on accident. Stay safe and thanks for sharing :)

    Can you do a top 10 on species for impatient keepers (fast growers, colorful slings, slings that don't spend months underground, slings that will actively come out of their burrows to eat, etc). I'm not even sure many of those species exist but if they do I'd definitely like to know about them. I've only been in the hobby for a little under a month, and I still have a small collection (4 Ts, 3 of which are slings) so I'm sure you can imagine how anxious I am to see some action lol. Right now I just feel like I have a bunch of boxes full of dirt that occasionally make crickets and meal worms disappear.

    As you say though with the bigger enclosure popping off like that you could use more magnets of even may put some heavy rocks or paperweights on top? Just not covering the air hole unless you make more holes in the sides. It would be a lot nicer and more appealing if they were made of acrylic

  • @SharpSpoods

    Here in the UK, we are pretty deprived of good quality tarantula enclosures, ones that don't cost and absolute fortune as well. Tarantula Room enclosures are the best ones I've come across so far that we have available. I have 5 of these enclosures myself, mostly the square ones with the flat edges. Due to the acrylic being flimsy, it is really simple to modify in my experience; you can just use a screw driver to add cross ventilation along those flat edges and around the circumference of the cylindrical enclosures. Also, the mesh is pretty easy to cut out and replace with a bit of acrylic or plastic; decided to do this with all my enclosures to eliminate the risk of toes getting caught. Bit of a faff but definitely worth the effort! Ime, the arboreal enclosures make a great space and opportunity for fossorial Ts!

    Maybe adding some neodyme magnets to the top? That should help - they are a lot stronger, than common ferrite ones, but still relatively cheap. 10x1 mm neodyme is enough to lift one pound, so adding 3 to the top should be enough to keep anything inside. And they are like 5 or 6 for 1 dollar. Oh, and you can acctually get ones, that have glue on one side, so they are easy to install.

  • @theflamminghotwotsit
    @theflamminghotwotsit 3 года назад

    I'm from the Uk and I have a fair few of these enclosures various size's both shapes and I agree the larger ones could do with extra or larger magnets to secure the lids and if you mist your tarantulas they do tend show watermarks quite quickly so if you can dependant on what species you have in the enclosure, of course, make sure you wipe residual water or they will get dirty looking very quickly but there's where the cons stop for me, I have housed many T's in these enclosures and without exception, they have all done very well in them keeping Avics in them can be slightly problematic because as you know they usually web up the top of their enclosures which is a bit of a problem with the smaller arboreal enclosures but I've found with the larger enclosures there's enough surface area with the lid to be able to tilt the lid high enough to feed without disturbing the T too much that could be a problem for some keepers but for myself, it hasn't been a big issue the lack of cross ventilation hasn't been a problem again for myself others may disagree I have experimeanted with cross venterlating with some but left others with just the top venterlation and have found no real differance I have not lost an avic in these enclosures, cross-ventilation is easy to do but if you are using a heat tool to make the holes remember the acrylic is very thin and it will end up looking like Swiss cheese if you arn't carefull, Poccy's seem to do very well in these but as you said the magnet problem could be an issue but there are ways and means to secure it and Tarantula keepers are a resourseful lot so not a massive problem. The terrestrial and fossorial species all do very well in them and the smallest enclosures are great for your slings and I have had no issues with them. These enclosures are not perfect and in the US it seems you have a lot more options when it comes to enclosures but if you are on a budget but still want a good looking enclosure you should really put them on your list of options for enclosures. This is my experience using these enclosures it will, of course, be different for other Keepers because if we all agreed about them we wouldn't be talking about the Tarantula keeping Hobby 😂 I hope this helps a little keep up the great show mate 👌👍

    I love enclosures like this, but I would rather just got glass, the plastic/plexi/acrylic gets scratched too easily for my preference. And before long I feel the need to replace them. Which it's a fault of the enclosure, it does the job its supposed to either way, but little scratches just bother me more. Other than that I really appreciate these type of enclosures. I wouldn't be opposed to using them over the Amac containers or the mainstay plastic containers. They definitely look a lot nicer and more professional.

    • @Varanamous
      @Varanamous 3 года назад +1

      @Adrian B hardscaping and just extended rehousing. but I just am not a fan of any enclosure that can easily be scratched or is prone to wear the way plastics and acrylics are.
      But I should clarify I'm very OCD, so a single scuff or scratch will bother me, I just happen to notice them less with glass.

U can see it stopped the second maculata form bolting out. Ideal for any bolting species as they just go under the lip and hide there. Even bigger spiders have a problem with bolting out. And yeah... the plastic mesh is the best. Had some Ts stuck on the exo terra enclosure so plastic mesh is awesome!

    It seems like visibility is really nice on these, the small seam isn't a huge deal. I like magnetic stuff, I'm not sure what drawbacks are as long as the magnet is strong enough (tho I guess magnets add to the price.) For instance I love using magnetic ledges. I would totally try out one of the smaller ones.

    I would really appreciate if i could buy enclosures from Tarantulacribs here in Germany. They look fantastic.
    This ones are looking not so pretty imo.

    I've got a couple of these, but mine are the older design before the magnets were used. 3 little twist clips to hold the lid in place and no worry about them failing. I prefer that to the magnets if I'm honest.

    Great review, I know some people who added side ventilation, because as you said, it's obviously not enough. But that aside, I find them gorgeous, especially for arboreal species as it offers a beautiful 360 view and it kinda changes the way we set things inside.
    On a side note, I personally had a bad experience dealing with the company. I wanted to purchase their enclosure and asked them if they shipped outside of UK (I'm in Europe), and they didn't even bother answering me despite them seeing my message. I was ready to pay a bit more for shipping fee... Disappointing.
    Does anyone know where I can get some cylindrical enclosures in Europe? Or if someone can ship one to me? I'd be eternally grateful! Please, help a brother out! XD (Obviously, I'll pay)

    I swear, the 1 thing that could convince me to develop an invert collection is that their enclosures are so much smaller than reptile enclosures.

    I've got two mid sized cylinders but being from the UK they are quite commonly available.
    I currently have a male regalis is one and did have a metallica in the second but I moved the metallica into an exo terra.
    One thing I don't like is only having one access point for cleaning and maintenance. With exo terra, at least I have two options depending on where the T is located.
    They also have options with built in leds.

    The music reminds me of '90s music kind of like Veruca Salt.
