I've seen so many men react to this song and not get the meaning until the end. It's really telling that it only takes a woman to the end of the first chorus to understand it immediatly. Loved this reaction so much!!
I love this song but had never watched the video - that had me in tears. The blame being passed on through the years and showing how it still ripples….
Thank you for listening to my recomendation, I am glad you liked it! And yep, that is Joan of Arc, among other famous women that have been villainized What always get me is the look Eve gives at the end after being saved, because this scenario has already happen and will continue to happen because like the song said "and so the cycle repeats"
Let's think about the Adam and Eve story as it is in the Bible. The text goes out of its way to emphasize that they did not know right from wrong. If you do not have the concept of wrong, how can you disobey? It's like putting a warm plate of cookies right in front of a toddler, saying to not eat them, then leaving the room. Second, the idea that the serpent was the devil in disguise probably wasn't popular until around John Milton's time. Satan wasn't even a name of a character in the Old Testament but rather a title of an office that was basically the attorney general of heaven. Third, did the serpent actually lie to Eve, or was he pointing out God's lie of omission? God was deliberately trying to keep humans as ignorant, servants with no free will of our own. In the text of the story, God says to the rest of the heaven council that he had to made sure humans didn't eat of the tree of life and thus become immortal like them. God insists Adam and Eve did something wrong even through they couldn't possibly understand that concept before eating the knowledge of good and evil. God helps Adam blame Eve even though Adam was right there the whole time. It seems to me that the character actually gaslighting the humans is YHWH.
@@JeshuaSquirrel What an interesting perspective. It makes me want to read the biblical Adam and Eve story in full again and see what perspectives can be gained from it now that Im older.
