    Thank you so much! I learned solely from RUclips and now transitioning to reading patterns. I can read more than half of most patterns but obviously this is not enough to get me through, so frustrating!! My crochet friends keep telling me I'm missing out on so much and if I get a book there 20-30 cool patterns that I could literally make and this idea is so cool to me! Cannot wait to actually do this. I've been crocheting for about 7 years so I feel I have a good "foundation" to do this :)

    Just wanted to say that even though the creator of the pattern says that you cannot sell the item you’ve made. That is not true legally. The pattern is theirs but what you’ve made is yours, so you’re free to do whatever you want with your creation

      maybe but it’s just morally messed up

      @brittz7506 Год назад +16

      Technically correct, but it's based on morality. Just because you *can* doesn't mean you *should*

    • @Pandawutang
      @Pandawutang Год назад +15

      I get how it's perceived as immoral but at the end of the day the hat you made a pattern for, may not be the only pattern available especially when it comes to items that are inspired by content viewed by the public.... I get not reselling the pattern - that's a no no, because YOU took the time to track the progress, every stitch, and what worked etc and possible crochet testers to make your very own hat. But what you gonna do when someone does that exact process, to recreate a hat that looks very similar to the anime design, and inevitably looks extremely similar to yours? You gonna try and stare at it with a magnifying glass? Fuck no, lol. I'd rather someone just make whatever the fuck they want, pattern of mine or not, and just give credit where it's due. I think that allows for more money to flow my way anyway when someone not only buys MY pattern but makes product out of it and tags me
      ... So countless others can purchase it. Full circle type stuff. Y'all just gotta pick your battles lol.

      true. a lot of patterns are very similar to each other by complete accident too.

    • @gracestrand393
      @gracestrand393 11 месяцев назад +5

      There is nothing morally wrong with me making a hat and selling it just because you don’t want me to. If I bought one of your hats and sold it, there is nothing morally wrong with me doing that either.

    I commented that I would send the video of crocheting for beginners to my friend when you posted it and I will do the same with this video. Thanks so much for it! I usually just free hand crochet and write notes that are helpful to me specifically. I've started looking at patterns and I found it slightly difficult, so this was a big help!

    Great video. Thank you. Would someone please comment on what sl st over 2 sts means. Is this slip into the 2nd stitch or skip 2 stitches slip into the 3rd stitch? Same question with sl st over 1 st. Maybe I can stop in at a yarn shop and ask questions.

    Can you share with us some 80s inspired things to crochet? It doesn't have to be 50. If 80s aren't your thing, you could make a video of 50 ideas inspired by your favorite decade, 50s to 00s (or even earlier)

    The brackets being in one stitch isn't always true - sometimes people use brackets or parentheses in the same way you would use a star to repeat the section - it varies based on the pattern, but it should be clear based on the word choice: the pattern said everything to do inside the brackets IN CH 5 so it's really specific to all of that being grouped together - that's all the brackets mean, it's a group. And all the stars mean is that it's a group. It's always going to say repeat from star to star or from bracket to bracket or even sometimes it will just have the brackets are parentheses around a set of stitches and then say "twice" or "to the end of the row" or something like that -reading patterns sometimes takes a little bit of visualization along with the pictures. Always read through the pattern from beginning to end before starting to make it. If there's any spot that you don't quite understand, usually if you just continue reading you'll get a sense of how the stitches cooperate better without having to make things row by row and frog everything every time. With that said, it is frustrating that there is not a clear format for some things, but if you are buying a pattern from a reputable seller, they will often have information about what their symbols mean if they use brackets in a different way than parentheses or stars next to an explanation of the stitches and their abbreviations, because sometimes different people do refer to different stitches differently... You have to remember that crochet was passed down from mother to daughter a lot of the time long before written patterns were available in stores, long before everyone picked up crochet off RUclips videos. So there are some things that get lost in translation just by the fact that there is no one sitting right next to you saying no no, go behind the post like this. Even on live video feed, it is much harder to describe a specific placement then it would have been for the matriarch or home ech teacher to physically help you. So everyone struggling to learn through patterns - give yourself grace. Also remember that a lot of the patterns coming out recently are not by people with years and years of experience writing down patterns. A big boom in a craft means there is going to be a lot of confusion. Innovation, yes, but also confusion.
