I loooove your channel. You have a gift in explaining with no fuss. I find most crochet instructor talk too much but you are straight to the point and you avoid all the BS.😅❤🎉
You are the best... I have struggled so much... You always bring such CLARITY !! I am a visual learner and I'd love to see what you do with the crochet Charts... YES PLEASE 🥰
I said this before a long time ago when you first started posting: you’re an incredibly good teacher! As a retired educator, I am more aware of instructional styles. Yours really is the best.
It’s sooo good to hear from you CV. Your messages encouraged me greatly and I’m still so grateful for your support. Hope you have been doing well! Let me know how it goes with the kit, if you decide to go for it 👏🏻👏🏻❤️
My Goodness! So incredibly helpful. I am more of a visual learner.. I have repeatedly read through the yarn councils instructions on how to read a pattern but geez, it really helps to see it too. Thank you so much.
I love how you demystify new things in such an empowering way. When I'm finished watching each video, I can't wait to try everything I just saw. You rock, Roz.
Best idea ever your video about reading crochet charts!!! I always struggle with written crochet charts thank you so much for all your video instructions. You are the best teacher ! With your help i freshend up my crochet knowledge learned as a child. Now i'm over 60 years old and enjoy crocheting. You are the best!💐🙂👋🌞 please more of these videos!!! Greetings from Germany, sorry for my bad english!
Your English is wonderful! I would not have known without you telling me .😀 I’m so happy you are enjoying crocheting. Your message has made my day , thank you 😀🧶💕
I'm an "okay" reader of patterns, but I had still never encountered a double asterisk! Always good to learn something new. I'd love to see a tutorial on chart reading. Crochet charts really intimate me! 🙂
These are wonderful instructions!!!!! I am getting confident to start crocheting more. At 52, Ive only did stitches for blankets that I learned from my Grammy or from videos. I am working on a gauge for the first time for a tshirt . I printed the pattern and have a short video. Part says dc, ch1, dc in stitch, skip one, repeat to ladt for a total of 22 stitches. No one said to not count the chain 1. I was counting the stitches from the row created and apparently you only count the dc's. Figured that out on my own👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you, Roz! Simply replacing the comma with the work "then" has been such an epiphany for me! I wish I discovered this tip Sooner! I am currently challenging myself to learn how to read charts now and would love your advice on It! ❤
I have that first book you handled!! Wow! You just taught from it! It has so many beautiful motifs! Love it!!! ❤Love the way you teach!!! Thank you for making reading the pattern so clear!!!And love the name you chose for your RUclips channel!!!❤
You knock it out of the park every time 🎉 I learned a crochet by watching you when you first started your channel. You are my go to for everything crochet related. It’s about time. I learn to read a pattern! Would like to order a Mary Maxim Afghan kit, but that requires reading a pattern. Without a tutorial it’ll be really difficult! Have you ever done an Afghan kit? Would you recommend one?
I’ve never done an afghan kit but yes, I’d recommend one if it’s by a designer you really love. Especially if it provides access to video tutorials or some sort of resource to help. Do you know if this kit does? That seems to be something many kits do provide nowadays 💕
Thank you so much!! I taught myself to crochet from watching RUclips videos and never learnt how to read a pattern. But thanks to you!! maybe I can from now on. And a big yes from me on learning how to read the graphs. Thanks in advance for all the things I know I'm going to learn from you. 💟
Wow wow you’ve done it again 🎉 I understood this so much for the first time 👏🏼 yes please on a tutorial for reading charts . Big Thankyou for your generosity of time and knowledge 😊
I just wanted to comment that when a pattern states how many spaces or stitches you should have at the completion of a row, take the time to count and make sure you have the correct number before moving on to the next row. This will prevent an error on one row from snowballing further down the line. I speak from experience! LOL 😊😊
I'm watching from down under Australia and I love your channel. You have described how to read a pattern the best!!!! I'm in love . I like how you write the pattern in bullet points, it's how I would do it. I would love the chart tutorial!!
I would absolutely love to learn how to understand a crochet chart. I just received a book of stitches that only contains charts, but no written pattern instructions .
Thank you this was very helpful. I'm just learning to read patterns and have only tried a few with video tutorials to help me start getting familiar. Yes I'd be interested in chart reading also.
I’d love to see a video on reading charts. A lot of patterns I’ve seen that I really like are in a foreign language, but they do show charts. I have an idea on how to decipher, but a video would be wonderful.
Brillant and so helpful to this newbie here. Reading patterns has really got me confused and this will def help. Question: What's the easiest way to tell the right and wrong side of your work?
When you’re on the right (front) side, your starting tail will always be sitting on the left . When you’re on the wrong (back) side , it will be sitting on the right. I never weave it in until the project is done , that way I can tell where I am. Starting tail: the long tail of yarn when you’ve made your slip knot to start your project . If you’re working on a square or in round and it’s hard to determine that, then use a stitch marker so that it’s distinctly attached to either the front or the back . I’m sure there are more ways but those are mine 💕
This is so helpful!! Just what I needed! 💜✨ Definitely need a video on charts as well! I have a chart pattern I want to follow and I have tried twice but I have no idea how to follow it. 😆
Oh my goodness Roz . Would you believe that I have this exact book ? I think we are crochet sisters 🤩🤩 I love this book and I've done some projects from it including earrings . It's great , but yes I wouldn't mind you doing a tutorial charts . I find it a bit tricky at times, so I tend to stick to pattern reading . Thanks again for today's lesson & have a good evening.
Love this, much needed. There were beautiful granny square motives in the beginning of the video serving as the background. Were those patterns in the same book? I am finding it impossible to do a center pull. I can never find that center end. Are all yarns able to pull from the center? I just got my first tulip needle. I’ve tried Susan Bates, which is good, but I hold them too far back clover, which didn’t suit me and the tulip. I have ordered three more tulip in sizes I use.
Wonderful ! Yes the sample I share in the beginning is from the book “beyond the square - crochet motifs” and a link is in the description box. This one is #94 from the book. Not all balls have a center pull unfortunately. The majority I’ve used done 😕 Good luck with your projects and happy new year! 🎊
I just found your videos and they are GREAT! Thank You so much!!. I will be starting "The easiest ripple you will ever make." today. I was getting very frustrated with the pattern I was trying to do. It was in the foundation chain multiple I just dont understand what they mean. If you have a minute can you tell me? Please It says--you need a multiple of 10 + 1. then add 3 to end of the chain. Is it as simple as the multiple is 11. Your video is so easy to understand!!
Hi 👋🏻 so glad you are enjoying the video. I know it can be confusing. It means to work a multiple of 10 FIRST and then when you’ve reached the end add 1 more. It looks like after that, they still want you to add 3 more to get their pattern to work. So an example would be something like 10 x 5 (50) . Add 1 to that number (51) then add 3 more to that number (54). That should give you the number you need. A multiple of 11 will give you a different answer. I used to try that too- never works 👍🏻 If it’s tricky like that I usually try it with a small multiple first to see if I’m understanding it correctly. Even just drawing it on a piece of paper with little circles and an arrow working my way across helps if I don’t want to crochet the test. Hope that helps!! 💕
Thank you! I will try that. You have explained it so I understand perfectly. I have been watching your videos and the are so well done, I want to try the shawl next. Have a great day! @@PlayHookywithMe
how do i know if the pattern is telling me to use double crochets because its written in uk terms or if i should actually do a real double crochet as in us terms in the whole pattern?
Usually a pattern is very clear whether it’s written in US or UK terms. If not, look and see if they are using the term sc’s in the pattern. If NOT , then it’s a UK pattern because sc’s are not a part of their terminology. Most patterns have a sc somewhere in their pattern or in their stitch key.
