    Hi friends, I hope you enjoy this video. This is a companion video to go along with my video last week on how to read crochet patterns.
    Once you get the hang of it, I'm sure it will become one of your favorite methods of learning a pattern! 🤩 If you have any questions, be sure to let me know or if you have any tips of your own, please share! xx

      Hi Roz,
      Thank you for sharing, these are very handy tips to know.
      As I’m a visual learner I gravitate towards videos on RUclips. Even though I learned how to read patterns when I started learning crochet through a class I took. They also taught us how to read graphs which I’m very grateful to have been taught how to do.
      Biscuit and Loki are the best helpers 😻😻
      Take care and stay safe and well. God’s blessings 🙏🏽💗🧶🦋🐶😻

    I know this video is at least 5 months old but i just have to say your explanation was so simplified that i really go it! I’ve been crocheting for many years. Always just ignoring the pattern charts, never needed them. However upon realizing i can now crochet ANYTHING from ANY country just floored me. I’ve lusted after some Japanese and French designs for years!!!! Holy mackerel! This is the beginning of a whole new world. Thank you.

    This was a wonderful video! The way you explain and demonstrate what you are teaching really makes charts easy to understand and follow. I love charts. I learned to read them many years ago from some of my mom's old "Crochet Fantasy" magazines. They had written patterns but I am more of a visual learner so the charts really helped. Learning to follow a written pattern has been more challenging for me. Sometimes I translate it into long hand so that It makes more sense to me. Sometimes I will translate something I am working on into a chart. I am so glad that I understand both the written patterns and the graphs.

    With so mang people learning how to crochet by watching videos, it's really nice to see you teaching this because many crocheters don't know how to follow a chart.👏
    When I'm tired, I prefer a chart over a video or written instructions. 🖒🖒
    🤔You know what would be great?
    If someone who KNOWS how to write down a crochet pattern using the correct phrasing and punctuation would make a video teaching:
    * FIRST how to READ a pattern, * SECOND how to WRITE a pattern by dissecting a well written pattern explaining why it is written the way it is.

    How do you understand if you need to put your stitch right inside the chain below or right into the space under the chain? For example, in 11:35, if I was looking at the chart I could have think oh I need to put the sticthes inside the below chains, but from experience I do know we don't do that, we go under the chains. How do you differentiate if a specific pattern needs you to put some of the upper row stitches inside the chain, not under?
    Edit : Like a back loop single crochet for example, or a back loop treble? Etc.
    Thanks for the video by the way, was helpful.

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  2 месяца назад

      When it comes to going through a chain or around a chain space , I haven’t found an indication in chart keys. For that , yes, you’ll have to use your own discretion for that unless the chart is accompanied with a written pattern. At least that has been my experience so far.
      However, if you look up/ google a crochet symbol chart, you’ll see that there is a symbol for blo or flo . It’s an upper arc and lower arc shape .

    If it is just a chart, without an accompanying written pattern, and a stitch from the 4th row is above a chain stitch from the 3rd row, how do you know if it should be in the chain STITCH or into the chain SPACE? Particularly when there are multiple chains in a row, sometimes a pattern wants the next row stitch placed into a specific chain, and sometimes it just wants it in that space.

    • @PlayHookywithMe
      @PlayHookywithMe  6 месяцев назад +2

      Yes, that’s definitely an issue and I’ve looked it up before to find out why that is and what to do about it.
      In short , it’s only through written instructions that you’ll get that extra info otherwise you’ll need to rely on your experience. Personally , I would try both ways to see what looks best and then just go from there.
      If it doesn’t accompany a written pattern, that’s really all you can do.
