    Lauren, thank you for the expense breakdown. Yours is the first I've seen for BGC. Many US expats share expenses in Dumaguete or some weird place out in the boonies. Uh, no thanks. I'm in Pasay right by Manila Bay. Paid around $1700 last month. This covers a furnished condo, all utilities, wifi, gym, and food. I go month to month, as a opposed to a lease.

    I am from Seychelles a developing country in the Indian Ocean, my costs of living for me and my wife living on a small island that don't have any of these facilities and amenities like BGC our monthly expenses are almost the as yours. We cook all our meals at home, we do not have shopping malls with these qualities of groceries that you can get, we do not use Aircon, we do not pay transportation, we have a mortgage to pay but less than your rent and we are still paying the same as you did. This shows me how crazy expensive my country is to live here. My wife is still working and I am already retired next year We are moving too.

    "You need that green to make the scene." Wife and I live in Makati across from Greenbelt. I am from NYC and find it very cheap here. We found a great deal on a nice condo unit after some searching around. We signed a one year lease. Doing that is cheaper than AirBNB and such. We probably spend around $2500 USD per month for everything including rent.

    Filipino here who moved to Canada. Now I dream of going back home. Rent prices here is as insane as UK. And the malls? Not even in city centres they are better than BGC. I miss the Philippines. Want to find an online job that pays $ and will surely go live in PH again or anywhere in Asia. It is more advanced in technology and services there. The west seems to be stuck in the past, just remembering the glory days. Building are still old, though very unique, architectural greatness, but humans need to move on you know, the west need to adapt to tech and modernity. Anyways, nice vlog. Keep it coming! The budget sounds good but as she suggested I would do all I could to minimize costs even there but for quality products. And when I retire soon my pension will be way more than enough to cover that monthly budget. For some, this is affordable, but for others it is way beyond their means OR they prefer the simpler things in life even when they can afford this place. i have a house with 5 ac. All of them have 2hp and even more and the highest i paid is 25t per month. I think its because all my ac are inverter type. I also have 3 shower heater and a waterpump. The only vlogger i know who paid so much electricity in the past was mergim and thats because his apartment was using non inverter ac. I think he moved to a different apartment in bgc.

      It’s cheap compared to some places in the world. However it’s the most expensive area in the Philippines. There’s many places in the Philippines where you can rent a house for around $80.00 to $100.00 a month. Someone on another channel said that they were paying $500.00 a year for a 2 bedroom apartment. But there’s many things to consider when deciding where to live. For some reason many from the USA live in Dumaguete. It’s a good idea to do some exploring.

Your cost of living in BGC is about the average Social Security check here in the US. I know of filipinas who come to the west (U.S.) and make like $90 thousand U.S. dollars a year (admittedly nursing/healthcare). When they retire, would BGC really be so expensive for them though?

      You get what you paid for. Not all foreigners that live in the Philippines have financial freedom, some of them are settling in an affordable place just to stay afloat.

      People in NYC are paying an average over $3,000 per month in rent alone. I think many would find this price a bargain and that is just a middle class/working class person in NYC alone

    It's an interesting concept. The cost of living is comparable to my life in Florida. But in Florida, I own everything such as house and vehicles. These aren't things foreigners can do in the Philippines. I suppose it's a good thought for people who can work abroad or for retirees. But at the end of the day, I can own things where I am. In the Philippines, I'm merely giving away wealth.

      Land is the only thing that a foreigner can not have a solo ownership with in Philippines, although there are pending laws proposed regarding 100% land ownership. I don't know if that's your biggest concern because it's really only a major issue to some bigtime foreign business investors but I really don't think that that's the point for you.

    • @Countywatch
      @Countywatch Месяц назад

      @topscris Correct. I'm not a big-time foreign investor. But generational family wealth is built on owning the land. To grab the dirt and say that's mine and my great grandchildrens dirt. Everything placed on it is owned by us. That's wealth. Every foreignor in the Philippines is merely renting or leasing. There's no generational wealth. I understand investments and currency creation. It's a separate beast. But at the end of the day, that's Filipinos' land. Everything on it is generational wealth for their children and great great great grandchildren and so on. This idea will always be a separation between the people on this earth. Wars happen for this mistake. It's one earth. Allow anyone to live, buy, own , and build anywhere they want and can in any country. The world will be a better place for that. No visas. Seperate governments can still exist and operate as corporations competing for the people to move into their jurisdictions.

    What is so great in BGC ? Is it the weather only or what else ? Because you moved from a first world country to a second world country now. I would count Philipin even third world but Manial with BGC is second world. So if your friend is good and independent in trading why you look only for prices to reduce living cost ? I am also fulltime trader but I would not really considering moving from Germany to a second world class country. Holidays short term for 2 weeks maybe different, but relocating and living there ? And what taxes there ? Why not moving to Qatar with Doha and zero taxes on nearly everything and first world class living style. And it is 50% cheaper than Dubai. You both can live from $2k per month in Doha and you have a huge tax advantage in case your boyfriend is doing big trading gains. My two cents.

      I'd rather go to India and rent a 3 bed flat in bangalore, £180/ month.
      Or live in a village, £40/ month for a decent house with exotic fruit trees in your garden. Oh and fresh veg at £0.15/ kilo.
      Or you can have an authentic Indian everyday, I mean there are plenty around haha, just my 2 rupees
