Lauren, thank you for the expense breakdown. Yours is the first I've seen for BGC. Many US expats share expenses in Dumaguete or some weird place out in the boonies. Uh, no thanks. I'm in Pasay right by Manila Bay. Paid around $1700 last month. This covers a furnished condo, all utilities, wifi, gym, and food. I go month to month, as a opposed to a lease.
I am from Seychelles a developing country in the Indian Ocean, my costs of living for me and my wife living on a small island that don't have any of these facilities and amenities like BGC our monthly expenses are almost the as yours. We cook all our meals at home, we do not have shopping malls with these qualities of groceries that you can get, we do not use Aircon, we do not pay transportation, we have a mortgage to pay but less than your rent and we are still paying the same as you did. This shows me how crazy expensive my country is to live here. My wife is still working and I am already retired next year We are moving too.
This woman & her boyfriend are very much welcome to the Philippine islands, they promote good and responsible British immigrants, and we are so lucky to have them. Mabuhay ❤
15:00 well phrased. As a guest in the philippines I feel the same way. Germany is way more expensive than that aswell. Sure, it depends on your location, expenses and such.
"You need that green to make the scene." Wife and I live in Makati across from Greenbelt. I am from NYC and find it very cheap here. We found a great deal on a nice condo unit after some searching around. We signed a one year lease. Doing that is cheaper than AirBNB and such. We probably spend around $2500 USD per month for everything including rent.
We probably send around the same once we've added in activities, general shopping and Visas. I love it at Greenbelt. That is also such a lovely area to live. We previously lived in Rockwell 😊
That's awesome! It sounds like a pretty good deal! A nice-sized apartment in New York might run about $5k US, but of course, prices can vary depending on what kind of amenities you're after.
Trust me pal, BGC is much more safer than in some western countries. Ph ban drugs, in the west they allow it which explains the gun violence and random attacks.
Been to Alabang about 40 minute drive in SLEX/CALAX. Floral Mall & town center nice. Just tricky finding parking and traffic. However all the same amenities as BGC.
Filipino here who moved to Canada. Now I dream of going back home. Rent prices here is as insane as UK. And the malls? Not even in city centres they are better than BGC. I miss the Philippines. Want to find an online job that pays $ and will surely go live in PH again or anywhere in Asia. It is more advanced in technology and services there. The west seems to be stuck in the past, just remembering the glory days. Building are still old, though very unique, architectural greatness, but humans need to move on you know, the west need to adapt to tech and modernity. Anyways, nice vlog. Keep it coming! Loving your contents!!
What u mean west is stuck in the past? There is a cure for type 2 diabetes now so I don't know what you are talking about. Asia will always 20yrs behind than the west unless you are living in a no civilization in US which is i don't know where that is because even in the mountains there's internet connection.
Well said. thank you for sharing and also visiting the Philippines. We live far from where you guys are but were glad your ok living there. There's always a twist about the bills because maybe some part of BGC have a good deal. Thank you for sharing. Have a good one.
Can I suggest Laureen(Presello vlogs)for you to have an insights on the well off houses on sale which is not far from you and it is quite relaxing to watch them too?I think they’re open to a co promoters too just maybe you have a target buyers from the UK who’s looking for a good house and location in the PH.it’s worth a vlog I promise.
@ Good morning to both of you am happy you choose to live there it’s a nice clean please to live however not the cheapest but safe, we live close to tagaytay nice weather many coffee shops etc you give it a try
We wouldn’t no, at some point we would like to have children and think it’s important to be close to family when we have children. We are currently 17 hours away from England so we would settle somewhere closer to England or England itself 😊
I've lived here for more than 5 years , this price is very expensive for local employees salary of an engineer with five years of experience is only about 30K
I discovered the best to save electricity is pay in advance like I did P16,000 for two months every time they bill me only P500 or P1000 only monthly because I had fund in the office of Meralco in Makati City
Lauren, I'm glad you did a monthly cost of living budget. I'm preparing what it would be for a single guy living in BGC. My budget is roughly $2,750 if I live there. Not intending to use all of it, but use around $250-$500 in the stock market monthly, as ETF is expected boom with the new administration.
if interested i have a 2 bedroom 90sqm condo in 2 serendra rent would be 60k pesos a month semi fernished. has parking additional 5k pesos. minimum lease 1 year. view is sm aura. message me here if interested in more details.
The budget sounds good but as she suggested I would do all I could to minimize costs even there but for quality products. And when I retire soon my pension will be way more than enough to cover that monthly budget. For some, this is affordable, but for others it is way beyond their means OR they prefer the simpler things in life even when they can afford this place. Just do what works for you and live your best life as best as you can. My wife and I have spent many trips in BGC so we already know how it is.
Wonderful to know that you eat-in 90% of the time.. That's a major savings! I'm curious though how you get (carry) your groceries home after shopping? Do you use Grab? Or do you live close by to Landmark? 😊
Why not just build a home since you're already paying that much for rent. I'm in California but i go there on vacation occasionally and I feel for me that it's nice to visit but not sure about living there.
@ If you shop for a house again in ph, make sure to check if the acis inverter. Or else, you will end up paying that 40k easy. i have a house with 5 ac. All of them have 2hp and even more and the highest i paid is 25t per month. I think its because all my ac are inverter type. I also have 3 shower heater and a waterpump. The only vlogger i know who paid so much electricity in the past was mergim and thats because his apartment was using non inverter ac. I think he moved to a different apartment in bgc.
@@laurenelizabeth_athome Before I forgot, you have to keep running the ac even on 26degree only and on some occasions, set it on dry. Otherwise, molds will buildup and will get your family sick
During the summer months, i paid 23k Php for electic. My 2bd unit overlooks Manila Golf Course and a great view, however it hets hot in the afternoon since it faces West. So take that into consideration when looking for places to rent.
I've owned 3 small condo. I avoided wood cabinets and I always tell client to always run the ac or run the exhaust to avoid molds. It still did cause they can't run ac all the time. Have to repain 2x. Luckily it is still under warrantly from sm and they painted with anti molds. That is what they said.
Your lung issue will be an issue in Philippines. It will take time for you to adjust if you really need to live there in BGC. But if you live in the province, you will be alright.
Wow that is super cheap living. This is why a lot of retired people living on a pension that would amount to living below the poverty level here in the US, move there and live a life they would never be able to afford here in the US even when they worked. 😊
It’s cheap compared to some places in the world. However it’s the most expensive area in the Philippines. There’s many places in the Philippines where you can rent a house for around $80.00 to $100.00 a month. Someone on another channel said that they were paying $500.00 a year for a 2 bedroom apartment. But there’s many things to consider when deciding where to live. For some reason many from the USA live in Dumaguete. It’s a good idea to do some exploring.
Nice summary. Thanks for the info on BCG and the associated costs. We lived for 8 months in Laguna province but that was 20 years ago so no sense comparing apples and oranges. Unrelated, being from the US, I am curious about your accent and your exclusive use of what I would call a "long u." Is it unique to a particular area of England?
You don't need to be embarrassed about what you are paying to live where you live. I live in the US and your cost of living is even below the poverty level here. Your cost of living in BGC is about the average Social Security check here in the US. While you are younger working adults, you guys should easily be able to make your living costs AND be able to save something every month for your retirement.
People who questions your choices on how you spend your money should kind their own business & stop watching you. 😅 You are very vocal from the start that, that's how you want to spend & the amount's not bothering you. People should stop saying this 9r that is cheaper. Not unless you are asking for it. From where you are, it's a super high expenses BUT everything's worth it!
I understand where it comes from, I think people are worried I am being scammed or charged foreigner price as this is extremely expensive for the Philippines but we are lucky to have western money behind us so for example I know Landmark is expensive but for ease and good quality products I will carry on shopping there!
Spot on comment @angartsnirex! I was thinking the same thing: they like living where they are (not asking for suggestions where to live cheaper), happy with how much they spend and where they spend their money on (not asking how to save/live cheaper in the Philippines), etc, etc.
It’s not expensive for the quality of life ! BGC is the exception in the Philippines….the rest of the Philippines deals with trash, brown outs, trikes, chickens and dogs
If the Hollywood actors/actress who are now loses their home in wildfire in LA california know about BGC maybe they will live here in the Philipines coz they will save more much money here.
Oh man I'm sorry I thought you said trading as in items things you buy or need i didnt know you meant stock. So in another of your videos I said waste of money but I was confused. We americans don't say trading. Usually stock and trades. But what do I know. Nothing I do. So I apologize.
Yeah BGC so expensive,,, that's why the other foreigner,, well going to Visayas like Cebu or Iloilo or Cagayan,, Leyte Bohol Baguio Tacloban,,,,,that price too much higher you'd be able to buy property, here in the Philippines,,in the 6months ,,,,, because that's a battle of economics all countries around the world,, that's why shame high price for the other countries
I know of filipinas who come to the west (U.S.) and make like $90 thousand U.S. dollars a year (admittedly nursing/healthcare). When they retire, would BGC really be so expensive for them though?
You get what you paid for. Not all foreigners that live in the Philippines have financial freedom, some of them are settling in an affordable place just to stay afloat.
@talongranger6991 no not I want to say,,like I said,in BGC so high price in the we have other province law price ,that province is belong to the Philippines,,your misunderstanding may words ,,but BGC I think for now going to close
People in NYC are paying an average over $3,000 per month in rent alone. I think many would find this price a bargain and that is just a middle class/working class person in NYC alone
It's an interesting concept. The cost of living is comparable to my life in Florida. But in Florida, I own everything such as house and vehicles. These aren't things foreigners can do in the Philippines. I suppose it's a good thought for people who can work abroad or for retirees. But at the end of the day, I can own things where I am. In the Philippines, I'm merely giving away wealth.
Land is the only thing that a foreigner can not have a solo ownership with in Philippines, although there are pending laws proposed regarding 100% land ownership. I don't know if that's your biggest concern because it's really only a major issue to some bigtime foreign business investors but I really don't think that that's the point for you.
@topscris Correct. I'm not a big-time foreign investor. But generational family wealth is built on owning the land. To grab the dirt and say that's mine and my great grandchildrens dirt. Everything placed on it is owned by us. That's wealth. Every foreignor in the Philippines is merely renting or leasing. There's no generational wealth. I understand investments and currency creation. It's a separate beast. But at the end of the day, that's Filipinos' land. Everything on it is generational wealth for their children and great great great grandchildren and so on. This idea will always be a separation between the people on this earth. Wars happen for this mistake. It's one earth. Allow anyone to live, buy, own , and build anywhere they want and can in any country. The world will be a better place for that. No visas. Seperate governments can still exist and operate as corporations competing for the people to move into their jurisdictions.
What is so great in BGC ? Is it the weather only or what else ? Because you moved from a first world country to a second world country now. I would count Philipin even third world but Manial with BGC is second world. So if your friend is good and independent in trading why you look only for prices to reduce living cost ? I am also fulltime trader but I would not really considering moving from Germany to a second world class country. Holidays short term for 2 weeks maybe different, but relocating and living there ? And what taxes there ? Why not moving to Qatar with Doha and zero taxes on nearly everything and first world class living style. And it is 50% cheaper than Dubai. You both can live from $2k per month in Doha and you have a huge tax advantage in case your boyfriend is doing big trading gains. My two cents.
I'd rather go to India and rent a 3 bed flat in bangalore, £180/ month. Or live in a village, £40/ month for a decent house with exotic fruit trees in your garden. Oh and fresh veg at £0.15/ kilo. Or you can have an authentic Indian everyday, I mean there are plenty around haha, just my 2 rupees
Thanks for going over this. This is the first normal western report on true cost of living in bgc. Well done

Alabang is 20 kilometers from BGC. A suburban style BGC with lavish malls and tall skyscrapers but a more slower paced vibe.
I will have to check it out 😊
Been to Alabang about 40 minute drive in SLEX/CALAX. Floral Mall & town center nice. Just tricky finding parking and traffic.
However all the same amenities as BGC.
It all depends on an individual's lifestyle. Some prefer a slower vibe and more privacy, while others enjoy a more energetic and vibrant atmosphere.
@JunBermz
I think alabang is a little cheaper and a little quieter than BGC. A suburban version of BGC.

There are alot lower than that rate of renting condos 25k to 35k more lower.. and its the same space that u have
Thank you for all information, very useful!!!
For a Filipino blue collar worker like me I can only dream of living in BGC and have nightmares at the same time.....😝❤🇵🇭😎👍

People in NYC are paying an average over $3,000 per month in rent alone. I think many would find this price a bargain and that is just a middle class/working class person in NYC alone
LOL OMG Let's hope Chris not trade u
Lauren no healthcare? No insurance of any kind? OH my.
We have insurance I just forgot to add it into this video. We spend £80 a month on this
is your boyfriend on Forex trading ? i like to watch his video on trading please :)
It's still the Philippines ok
