This is the first time I’ve come across your channel, Maryel. I’m glad I saw this because I have been hearing comments about Megaworld-made condo units at BGC and Eastwood. The issues you mentioned about the toilet and the space under the kitchen sink (where the grease trap is located) and the general condition or quality per se of the units seem to be a common theme. It’s not a BGC thing, I can be sure of that. I believe you have a niche content that is yours truly. 👍 keep it up.
They don't have a P trap in the Philippines to keep the sewer gas from coming in to the room. She's smelling the sewer gas. Philippines standard is substandard. I didn't like the build quality of the condo I stayed at in BGC. Grouts coming off and uneven floor and jagged edge. Bad quality.
I've stayed in many Airbnb's over the years and always clean/disinfect when I arrive, no matter how it looks. You just never know what the last guest or cleaner did so I feel safer wiping everything down and washing the kitchenware. I stayed in the same building in BGC last year and noticed the sewer smell under the sink too. Otherwise, the unit was pretty good, the staff was helpful and Uptown location was perfect. I cooked and did laundry. Also bought disinfectant, detergent, towels and other items that I left for the next guest.
01:24 Thank you so much for properly promoting that BGC / Uptown is actually in Taguig. We should all stop tolerating ignorance with nameless vloggers calling everything Manila just because they see concrete. You are among the growing number of (Filipino?) commenters here who are promoting truth about PHL and/or Metro Manila. Mabuhay kayo and more power to your channel! ⭐ 02:26 Pls be mindful of your words.. "infamous" connotes something known for bad / wrong reasons (e.g. criminals). You should have used a "popular" or "famous" instead.
I'm familiar at the Global City area. I stay about almost 2 weeks in my friend condo unit. not far by walk to SM shopping mall etc. yeah it's nice area. If I visit again to Phil. either Makati nor BGC is my choice area to stay.
You made a really good point about cleanliness as I wish I could find an Airbnb with zero cockroaches (all they need to do is proper pest control spraying regularly!). As for general cleanliness I just don't understand that at all and why they can't get it right. I am currently in Kuala Lumpur and Condo units are so much better for the same price plus cleanliness. Why can't BGC Units get all this right I wonder? It puts me off staying in Airbnbs in Manila.
It’s frustrating. Might be the building?? I had a really good one from my last trip (couple of weeks ago). Thought I’d give it another go (I also can’t afford the hotels for long stays haha) and that was good!! I’ll make another video on that. Hopefully they remain consistent as they were new.
@@MaryelTravels Be great to see a really good one especially one that you have stayed at twice! Plus why is it only these really small Units that are available on Airbnb and not bigger Units/floor to ceiling windows/balconies for the same price I wonder - seems those ones are more available for long term stays maybe
We stayed one week at the same One Uptown Residence and we had the worst experience in our life. We actually just got back 5 days ago. Our 1st time staying in an AirBnB and probably the last. We arrived on a Saturday and that evening for the first 3 days of our stay the toilet was was clogged. We had to use the lobby and or the gym facility to relieved ourselves. We were moved to a different apt. where the ac was broken in the living room and the bedroom ac was barely cold plus the tv did not have cable (just for display). No more Air BnB for us!
Oh no! Did they refund you anything at all? I was stubborn and still stayed in another one for my last trip. It was better smell wise but the internet was not working the whole time. They offered to move me and they also refunded me part of the cost.
Yay it’s vicky from the Australian RUclipsrs group! And OMG I love your channel and guess what …I want to go to Manila next and your video is perfect! Thank you!
Just be mindful... BGC is not in Manila. It's in Taguig. "Manila" refers only to the capital city at the west cost of the NCR. (I know your plane ticket says "Manila" but that's an IATA term which has its own convoluted naming history). There are many of us here who are sensitive to that -- especially the educated class.
I stayed in a similar unit in Parksuite 1 for five nights last month in November. It says 1 bedroom but like yours, it's a studio. I don't like the build quality of the condos there in the Philippines. I wasn't impressed with the airbnb. I fought with the host because she took away my Netflix and gave it to other guest since it's a shared account. She also tried to raise the rent the day I got there. The unit was not furnished with soap or shampoo. I was going to bombard it with bad reviews but didn't want to ruin the host. I'm still pisst when I think about it.
Oh no! Sorry about that. The developer around Uptown is Megaworld and they’re sadly known to be not the best quality but they have good location. The good buildings in the area do not allow short term stay which is understandable.
@@MaryelTravels I bought a 2 bedroom condo by Alveo in BGC. It's preselling and under construction until last qtr of 2030. It's right next to the soccer field.
@@MaryelTravels Yes, their location is great. I bought at Park East Place. It's in between Uptown and High Street. It's right next to the soccer field.
Most airbnbs in BGC are built or maintained to a questionable standard, compared to other SE asian units, especially given the prices of those units. The sewer smell you speak of is peculiar, since a simple drain p-trap filled with an inch of water is usually enough to rid of it. Unless the unit does not have a p-trap drains or the smell is of more nefarious origins.
Have to check record for sales/average price per condo sold but the closer to High Street, the more convenient. Ones I can think of that are on the expensive side are Shang, Grand Hyatt, Aurelia I believe is up there too. One Serendra, one of the OGs, I’d say is pretty good too.
@@Nomad-XAif you want something a bit more luxe and upscale, I’d say avoid Megaworld properties and/or go for buildings/properties that don’t allow short-term leases
Watching your vlog, I noticed that you scratched your face and arm several times. You mention about the smell under the sink, probably, there's molds in there bec of water leak damage. This is the complaints of most condo owners, and the allergens causes your skin to itch. Please research about molds. Its really a health hazard when you inhale it, too, especially if its black molds from water damage.
Agree. She definitely meant "popular" or "famous". "Infamous" implies a negative connotation (like "notorious"). Thank you though for indirectly encouraging us to improve our English and choice of words.
I would never pay $100 + a night. They pay their employees $10 a day. The condo buildings there are half empty due to over building and way overpriced. Let’s not forget that most condo rentals there have roaches . The sewer smell is due to poor construction practices. The lack of pea traps is the cause of the sewer smell.
smarttripai AI fixes this. Renting an Airbnb in BGC.

Appreciate that. Thank you so much! Hotels are just sooo expensive sometimes, for a long stay, it definitely dents the budget :(

How does that not happen in our apartments but it does there?! Can’t fault the staff, very friendly and lets you leave the luggage too.
I suggest that wherever you go. You bring your own place/house😡🙄
As a wealthy expat in IT Park , it is over priced by $300 US Dollars . I've had better in Cebu for $20 a night

It’s gotta be the drainage somehow. I am giving it one more go for my next trip. This airbnb looks good on paper, hopefully it delivers 🤞
Do you realize the word "infamous " is a bad thing? I don't think the 3D billboard is infamous, infact it's the first one I've seen.
Yes :) It’s a bit of both. First in the country so it attracts a lot of foot traffic which is annoying some people. I personally don’t mind it.
the condo looks cheap for that amount you could get a good hotel room for that price 😂
I noticed the washer but no dryer. How do you dry your laundry?
Yea no dryer. I didn’t use it, it might be a washer and dryer in one but unlikely. You’ll probably have to hang inside next to the glass window
I used mine thinking it was a washer dryer combo but turns out it was only a washer. Complained to the host and they gave a drying rack. Lol
What’s the most upscale area in BGC?

Yes! No more Airbnb. Cleaning after others' stay is not my thing.
It can be a drag but still a cheaper alternative sometimes. Nothing beats a hotel :)

"Infamous?" Why? How?
Mostly famous, I personally like it but some people find it annoying as it attracts a lot of people

You're are right plumbing in the USA are all built using P Trap for that specific reason.
😂
There are ptraps. Building plumbing codes require it OF COURSE!!!
So stop spreading your wrong diagnosis.
@ why don’t you enlighten us on why so many condos and hotels have the smell of sewage?
