I have tried everything from the list except gravitas. Also need to revisit sauvage elixir. Great list. Scandal pc is my #1. Fougère d'Argent is easily in my top 5, I think it's a banger; very cozy and versatile.
@@leruditdelafonte I have tried Gravitas and Gravitas Essenza. Gravitas is a very traditional, classic fougere. Essenza, to me, is a modernized (and better to me) version.
Chanel Platinum Egoist is my "office fragrance". So bright, mouthwatering, and yet elegant in its own way. My day just starts better when I'm wearing it
Fougere D’Argent is definitely available - just bought another bottle from Dillard’s. I appreciate your reviews but usually our tastes are different in the details. But you explain your experiences well and that’s why I find your reviews both interesting and useful. In this instance, our tastes match. Fougere D’Argent is one of those rare gems that I will grab late at night and hit a spray on skin just because I know it will bring a sigh and a smile. Just the most perfect happy, relaxing, and beautiful lavender I’ve ever encountered. My #2, though, would be Pasha de Cartier Parfum - surprised it isn’t on your top 10. Also, I do prefer Viking Cologne, but people should give each a try.
Nishane b612 is a scent that even if you hatee old school, classic, barber shop, Ambers or wodsy...is a scent that will surpise you even if yiu are a blue scent lover. I came to know it by casualty at a store an old lady working there and was so knowledgeable suggested me and gave me a sample. The second time I smelt it was even better to my nose. And you Justin are the only one I have seen suggesting it. Much respect.
Fougere d'argent still available in UK. Smells pure class, I save for special occasions. I work as a builder and if I've had a dirty/grim day the platinum egoiste will go on straight from the shower for instant uplift 😊.
When I was visiting a creed venture my step dad they threw in a bottle of creed viking when we bought quite a few bottles for other members of the family. I truly underestimated it and didn't understand it as a fregrance and just thought it smelled like "old spice" and my was I mistaken. When I rediscovered you as a creator and listened to your opinion I became a little more open minded. One day when I was shaving I decided to revisit viking and it hit me. That was when I truly understood the potential. Very thankful for the professional incite.
I was torn between Beau de Jour and Fougere d'Argent for a long time, but BdJ eventually took the cake for me. 😉 I just adore the sharpness of the opening. Like a pair of shiny scissors. ✂ The rounded and floral version obviously being Zino, albeit the vintage formulation. All fantastic lavenders. A great vid Justin!
Fougere is one of my favorite genres. My favorites: 1.Tom Ford Beau de Jour 2. Chanel Boy 3. Creed Bois du Portugal 4. Chanel Platinum Egoiste 5. Acqua di Parma Colonia Futura 6. MFK Masculin Pluriel Great video Justin. Glad that you are sharing your evolution by revisiting this topic after several years. Glad to share this journey with you.
I’ve really grown to appreciate fougère fragrances lately. I only own a few at this time, but from what I own/have sampled my favorites are (in no particular order): - Houbigant Fougère Royale - MDCI Invasion Barbare - Prada Amber Pour Homme - The Envy of FOMO (not technically a fougère, but it is in the barbershop family) - Perry Ellis Portfolio Elite (best cheapie fougère I’ve tried) - Fougère D’Argent (I really need to get a bottle of this one) - Zaharoff Signature Pour Homme - MFK Masculin Pluriel
Oh man, as one of those "old soul" types, this is my type of list. Got my start in "colognes" with the drugstore, $3 bottles of aftershaves, which tend to be musks and fougeres.
I'm not really mature, but I absolutely love scents like Acqua di Parma's Colonia and Cipresso di Toscana, it smells clean, fresh, but in a very interesting way that takes you on a trip somewhere. But I wanted to say something else unrelated. I smelled up close and on paper Apple Brandy on the Rocks, by your suggestion, and I liked it. However, I had my first full wear just today, and feeling it in the air and projecting from skin feels totally different. It evokes such an interesting vibe that I had not picked up smelling up close on paper. That's why it's very important to test fragrances on a full wear. Thanks for your great suggestions.
My Clive 1872 is the same way. On paper it was great. On my skin ? My girl said, and I quote, “that was a magical experience” after she spent at least 5 minutes nuzzling and smelling my neck 🤣.
Viking is great! Zaharoff, Sartorial, Fougere Royale, and Gravitas are all kick arse also. Justin, Bois de Portugal is definitely in your wheelhouse. Try it, my friend. I look forward to hearing you review it!😎
Love Barbershops. Such a similar DNA between them but each has their own twist that makes each one unique. My favorite right now is Casamorati Fiero, I love that minty Lemon-Lime and citrus opening and earthy dry down. Not being a huge fan of anise, I love the use of tarragon and thyme
No matter how many fragrances I have I always love the old-school barbershop fragrances. Platinum Egoiste is one I keep going back to again and again. Love Viking also.
Hey Justin, thanks for the shout out with the Fougere D'Argent. Knowing your love for fougeres I knew that you had to try it, and I'm so glad that it made your number one. I want to humbly suggest that you try another one of Tom Ford's fougeres which I consider magical and sadly a very overlooked gem. Fougere Platine! I never hear anything about this fragrance but people are missing out if fougeres are a love for you. This one opens with classic fougere vibes lined with a metallic subtlety. Nothing overly surprising (but I do like the metallic notes), but about 15-20 minutes into the drydown you begin to pick up on a soft, slightly sweet pipe tobacco that continues to develop over the next 20-30 minutes. The classic aromatic fougere smell remains throughout the life of the fragrance, but the support of the tobacco and cedar make this something truly special. If I had a backup I would send you this one too, but hopefully you can get your nose on it--great stuff. Keep the videos coming bro--you're a blessing to the frag community!
Thanks for the list. My favorite genre, its been a while since Ive seen someone do one. My number 1 would be Tom Ford Beau de Jour, superb fragrance and long lasting. You damn right Dior Sauvage Elixir! No controversy there, it is a long lasting banger. 👌👍
Man, you and the perfume guy are the most elaborate ones out them all, love your content. Keep it up. I always look forward to your videos, always unique and detailed.
The barbershop genre of fragrances hasn't been my favorite for some time, but I'm more than willing to get more exposed to these types of fragrances, and I know I'm bound to find something I truly love. Taking into consideration all of these options! Great video, Justin! ❤
So I own Viking, one of the earlier bottles to come out and I love it. I love the world of spices and herbs in it, i love that it is a very packed fragrance full of hues and shades and valleys and rivers. But as far as fresh clean scents you wanna just wear out in the world go, the Cologne is the perfect mass appealing alteration of the original. Got a lot of compliments for that one.
I was just thinking last night about how it’s good to have you here on RUclips where we can have a Scent Sommelier to keep us informed on Seasonal Scents and more, keep it up 🫡
Enjoy the list, particularly Platinum Egoist and Roja Scandal. Being a fan of older offerings I do like Davidoff Zino, Versace L'Homme, and Givenchy Gentleman Original.
Great top, Justin. Platinum Egoiste is my to-go pick, when i'm need clean, fresh and light feeling. But my favourite fougere is Histoires de Parfums 1828 (Jules Verne). Transparency with a touch of sweetness. Definitely recommend to try if you not.
Love this justin, somehow the fougere seems to get overlooked in modern perfumery but their the epitemy of masculinity!! One of my personal favourites: houbigant duc de vervin l'extreme.
Beautiful list Justin, I really need to get my nose on a few of these I haven’t sampled yet. I really align with your taste. Appreciate all the great content and a pre-congrats on 100K!
I need to give some of these a try! I need to explore the genre more in general. One I really enjoy is Polo Cologne Intense. A nice modern take on a fougere with some ambroxin, aromatics, and a wonderful hint of sweetness within the creamy-fresh base.
Bracken would definitely be on the list, but it’s a tease every time I share it because it’s so hard to fine! Caron 3e and Mousse Illuminee are also great.
I love my fougere fragrances. I have owned most of these on this list. Gravitas is special. it's also very inexpensive. You mentioned Bois du Portugal. It is a fantastic one. One that you might want to check out is Invasion Barbare. I really enjoyed this video.
For me its Platinum Egoiste and Fars by Xerjoff that reign supreme in this genre for me. I'd absolutely love to finally get a full bottle of Fars this fall after sampling it 2 years ago. Such a gorgeous scent to me.
Favorite budget fougère is Lalique L'insoumis. Favorite day and work Fougere is Tom Ford Beau De Jour. Your 2nd Soul is what I consider an evening Fougère. From work to evening without skipping a beat. But my signature sort of Fougère at the moment is Thameen Insignia, though I'm not sure it's a classic fougère, it's got nice aromatics from bay leaf, a bit of whisky and fig sweetness with bitter orange citrus, classic geranium and grassy woods. It reminds me a Manhattan cocktail, sweet fruit aromatics and herbal rye whisky. Lovely. Just a great overall fragrance that I love to wear often. Creed Viking is not my thing, I see the quality, but I also get the 'fancy old spice' comparisons. In the same category for me as Mancera Wind Wood, decent, but doesn't have a space in my collection.
there are so many great barbershop fragrances, some for pennies on the dollar, that smell faaar more posh than what's trending today... and I get it - these fragrances are not the most mass-appealing, but they smell like money to me... even fragrances under 20$ like Zino , Lalique pour Homme or Brut... if you go up in price you can get some real gems like you mentioned
I love me some barbershop fougere fragrances...they remind me of my childhood 9n how my uncles and dad were smelling...and they were big players back in their days 😂😂
Scandal Parfum Cologne is a banger!!The most “barbershop” perfume in my opinion has to be MDCI’s Invasion Barbare. Not saying it’s the best but it’s super barbershopy 👌 My favourite though, it’s also from MDCI and it’s Le Barbier de Tanger which is a 10/10 in my book 🥸 Nice list sir 🙌
Justin, love your content. On this particular subject, you are missing out by not owning Bois du Portugal by Creed. It’s probably the best fougere I’ve tried. Very classic, well blended and smooth and just fantastic. Try it, you won’t regret it.
Beau de Jour is probably one of my favorites. I really like Viking but i stop smelling it after like 4 hrs but other people can smell it and my shirt will still have a smell. But that just means I don’t get as much enjoyment out of it. I know its not a fougere but Mefisto Gentiloumo always feels fougere adjacent to me. The dragon punch of lavender I guess?
Love the genre and the video. I like Sartorial a 7 for me. Signature, B-612, Fougere Royal and Gravitas I'm unfamiliar with. I prefer Viking Cologne over Viking, but Bois Du Portugal for me is much nicer than both. Sauvage Elixir is gorgeous, I don't own it but it is for sure the only Sauvage worth considering for me. Both Scandal are beautiful, perfumery at its best. Chanel Platinum Egoiste is beautiful I prefer the original Egoiste, but not sure if you can categorize that one as Fougere. As for Fougere D'Argent, I really expected that to be your favorite, I don't own it but love it. I still see it here in Dubai, so I'm suprised to know it will be discontinued. It is amazing. As for my favorite fougere scents that I actually use: 1. Ricci Club by Nina Ricci (my favorite of the genre and was my signature for a decade, unfortunately it is discontinued) 2. Boucheron pour homme (EDP & EDT) 3. Tabac Original 4. Blue Stratos 5. Dunhill London 6. Eau Sauvage edt & edp (though some doesn't consider it as a fougere) and Bois Du Portugal (my favorite Creed).
Fougere is my genre. My 5 favorites currently are: The Tragedy of Lord George by Penhaligon's - This is my favorite fragrance hands down across all genres. Bois Du Portugal by Creed Bracken Man by Amouage Russian Leather by Memo Paris Beau Du Jour by Tom Ford Interestingly I'm not really a fan of Sartorial nor of Scandal. I'm going to have to try out a few of these you mention.
I think the animalic edge in scandal parfum cologne is the Indole. Regardless of that I LOVE IT. For me its: Sartorial Fougere d'argent Beau de Jour Roja scandal parfum cologne Xerjoff Casamorati Fiero B612 MFK masculin pluriel Houbigant Duc De Vervins l'extreme Rive gauche pour homme Azzaro pour homme
Hey Justin, I love Gravitas pour homme but love gravitas essentia much better…. It’s an “easier to wear” Fougere that easily could be a daily wear or possibly a signature sent…. could also be worn anytime of the year as well, especially in the heat….
Tried Sartorial at Bloomingdale’s on 59th. Nice fougère. If you want an even higher quality traditional fougère: Nicolai - Vie de Chateau. Out of this world good.
I was waiting for this video for so long! 🙏🏽 Im getting Creed Viking and At the Barbers from Replica. Im really interested in Gravitas Pour Homme and Rojas Scandel cologne, do I am going to get myself some samples from those. Thanks for the video! ❤
Sartorial is an all rounder and very long lasting for an EDT. Just fantastic! Fougier Royal EDP is not as potent as Sartorial. Looking at the 2nd on your list as a potential addition to collection. Thanks for the insight 😊!
Quite interested to try Fougere Royale from Houbigant, but I'm also curious about Bois Mystique and not sure which one to get. I have Apex by Roja Dove, so I'm leaning away from another barbershop fougere. Thanks for this list, I'll have some bottles to look into
Thanks Justin for the great video. You just sold me on Mr Smelly’s fragrance, I’ve been thinking about buying it for a few months now. Can just real quick give me your thoughts on TF beau de jour, I’ve been seeing great prices and I’m intrigued. I already own and like Zeno, wonder if I should bother with it. Also what trumpeter do you admire most, I’m huge jazz fan and I’m interested to know. I love Byrd, Baker, Dorham, Hubbard. I was at Andy’s jazz club last month. I got listen the great performance of Charles Heaths group, did you play there? Thanks and take care.
Hi Joseph. I really enjoy Beau de Jour. Check out the latest video it was featured in, which was a few months ago. ruclips.net/video/olMWy69lYOs/видео.html And I love all those trumpet players, hard to pick one. I’ve played at Andy’s many times.

My 5 favorites currently are:
The Tragedy of Lord George by Penhaligon's - This is my favorite fragrance hands down across all genres.
Bois Du Portugal by Creed
Bracken Man by Amouage
Russian Leather by Memo Paris
Beau Du Jour by Tom Ford
Interestingly I'm not really a fan of Sartorial nor of Scandal.
I'm going to have to try out a few of these you mention.
I think the animalic edge in scandal parfum cologne is the Indole. Regardless of that I LOVE IT. For me its:
Sartorial
Fougere d'argent
Beau de Jour
Roja scandal parfum cologne
Xerjoff Casamorati Fiero
B612
MFK masculin pluriel
Houbigant Duc De Vervins l'extreme
Rive gauche pour homme
Azzaro pour homme
Hey Justin, I love Gravitas pour homme but love gravitas essentia much better…. It’s an “easier to wear” Fougere that easily could be a daily wear or possibly a signature sent…. could also be worn anytime of the year as well, especially in the heat….
Scandal is just a bit difficult pretty much like all of Rojas creations. MFK Masculine Pluriel is quite good as well.
Would it be possible for a “Top 10 oud fragrances” plz ?

@@stayfreshproductions thank you 🙏 I will definitely be trying a few of these out, maybe not the fragrance du bois Sahara though 🫣😭
eau sauvage i prefer the cologne version less herbal :)
I've been really enjoying a sample of NFL Masculin Pluriel... To my nose it's similar to Zaharoff Pour Homme
Tried Sartorial at Bloomingdale’s on 59th. Nice fougère. If you want an even higher quality traditional fougère: Nicolai - Vie de Chateau. Out of this world good.
I have Tom Ford F D’A in my cart now…
Need to pull the trigger on that sooner than later..
Hi Justin
You have to try Havana from Aramis.
Love platinum egoiste
Regards from Spain
So good , thanks!
Dorian’s Fougère by Darren Allen is one of my favorite. If you have not discovered him I highly suggest you should.
I was waiting for this video for so long! 🙏🏽
Im getting Creed Viking and At the Barbers from Replica.
Im really interested in Gravitas Pour Homme and Rojas Scandel cologne, do I am going to get myself some samples from those.
Thanks for the video! ❤
ATB is also great!
Much Success 🙌 God bless 🙏
1.Scandal PC
2. Sartorial
3. Drakkar Noir (unironically.. genuinely like it🤣).
My top 3.
Sartorial is an all rounder and very long lasting for an EDT. Just fantastic! Fougier Royal EDP is not as potent as Sartorial. Looking at the 2nd on your list as a potential addition to collection. Thanks for the insight 😊!
😁🙏🏾
My advice with the Zaharoff is a little goes a long way.
Viking is outstanding
Must try some fragrance than I absolutly adore... Slight of fern Masque Milano
I enjoy that one. It was in the old Fougère video I referenced in the beginning of this video

And I love all those trumpet players, hard to pick one. I’ve played at Andy’s many times.
I've heard people refer to Mefisto and Mefisto Gentiluomo as fougeres. What's your take on that? Both do feature lavender heavily and are quite soapy.
They are definitely peripheral!
Brothers I need some shaving foam kinda fragrance in budget, give your kind suggestions. Regards!
Try New York intense by Nicolai Parfums.
Platinum Egoiste was my 90’s signature.
Imagine a…goth in a leather coat wearing that. 🤣
Now i’m interested in ”Gravitas” and ”Fougere D’Argent”.
