Hi James, we went to Chatsworth last weekend, cost £40 per person for the market, light trail and house tour, expensive. The food was really costly, a pasty £8, brisket and cheese in a bun £14.00! But it was packed and I thought money was tight. Plenty of barbour jackets and wellies (know what i mean) with hounds trailing along to trip you up. That's my rant!

Hi, I'm Christopher - from Billingham (Stockton). And I am 39 so not in your usual viewing age group ! I have seen a few of your videos and like the ones of the north-east I am proud to be from Stockton (a Teessider), very much into culture (British and East European) social history, architecture etc I am interested in something you mentioned in this video about starting set of videos on North Yorkshire coastline and villages.... If you start at Redcar and include Saltburn, Brotton.....Staithes, Whitby and beyond I would also like to recommend you Guisborough (it's a small market town up and coming) about 20mins drive inland from Redcar. Lovely little place, very close to Cleveland Hills. Something which I will also like to mention, in Billingham every consecutive year there is a famous (only one in UK) International Folk Dance Festival (dates 9th to 17th August 2025) whereby folk dance groups from all over the world come for one week to perform their traditional dance in costumes and live performances in Billingham Town Square every day and some performances in theatres and surrounding towns. It might not be your thing, but it is very unique and something different to film, I know its a canny way off yet, but something to consider for next year. Preview videos here Indonesian Dance ruclips.net/video/1VZF8xJJL9w/видео.html Dance from Tahiti (South Pacific) ruclips.net/video/G4sZ6AOIcrI/видео.html Dances from Chile ruclips.net/video/VXQwfaaMKYA/видео.html Dances from Colombia ruclips.net/video/pvO55QSk3nM/видео.html The festival has been going for 60 years - next year August 2025 is 60th anniversary festival. @@bythecurb It's something different (the festival) something international showcased in a small post industrial town, Billingham and has been going on for 60-years. I try to go every year to see some of the performances, as I like to make several videos of the festival. Your Darlington video is not all that bad, I liked it, I think you did one of Hartlepool (just down road from me) which I enjoyed, and also Durham. If you begin your next project on North Yorkshire coastline, further ahead, ever given thought to Northumberland coastline its cold and rugged, north of Newcastle all the way to Berwick border with Scotland. Another lovely part of the country. I do enjoy your videos/vlogs. ;-)
Shocking about Chatsworth. I've never been and won't ever bother now! I'd have expected so much better from one of our iconic national treasures. Rip off Britain alive and well with the Cavendish family.
I enjoyed that vlog James! Honestly...I've thought from the start (which weirdly for me...was the SOUTHEND VIDEO!...I watched it purely by chance because I used to live in Southend)...that YOU don't really know WHY your channel is so popular! So...I'll tell you (from a well-OVER 50s bloke!)...😂... Two things... 1. We get to see places that we may have never been to before. And... 2. YOUR unique "Yorkshire Blunt"...TAKE on these places. It's actually a simple, but also very hard to achieve recipe! It's the same reason that we love... Whitehouse and Mortimer Gone Fishing... And... The Detectorists... And... Salvage Hunters etc etc Just...middle-aged "blokes" take on the world around them. Highlights of this video for ME, were... 1. Seeing that Stephensons Rocket bridge!...because I own a copy of the original biography of Robert Stephenson printed in 1864. 2. Did you notice that the woman you spoke to in Boyes...was a SOUTHERNER? 🤔 I wonder what her story was? 3. Just seeing another majestic northern Georgian industrial town (City?)...which I'll almost certainly never get to myself. So...as much as you think the video was cr@p... It most certainly WASNT mate. 😊
Thanks Chris, I really appreciate that. I want to start talking to more people but its quite hard as people dont usually want to speak. I've got a few on my next vlog in Middlesbrough though!
@@bythecurbIt's a really good video ,please stop undervaluing yourself. ,it would have been very dissapointing if you had chosen not to post it. If in doubt about posting ANY of your future videos, consider these FACTS. . We get taken to places we most likely won't get the chance to visit. .You endure all the costs ,time, planning, stress ,sometimes tetchy people. The drastic temperature changes ,the unknown . We sit back in cosy pyjamas warm slippers, comfy chair ,cheeky glass of red , and press a button, click on LIKE BEFORE ! we have started our next adventure . We dont even have to find a Tesco for our ablutions, we cant complain at that can we 😊

Another quality vlog, as always, your last one with the trail hike is the first one I couldn't watch all the way through, reyt scared of heights, never lose your humour it shines.
You're 10 X better than McMaster you are genuine and honest he's so predictable and when he gets a low score he comes back with click bait about the EV car he doesn't even own , just get your ass to Spain in the mini RV . Just not Benidorm that's been done to death 😁😎
Really liked the look of Darlington. I've never been either but it looks like heaven to me. I'm from York and it's all jostly jostly, pushy pushy in town at this time of year, most of the time actually. Looked like a breath of fresh air.
Mega: It's not usually that quiet in Darlo, but it's never as busy as York 😮 Wed is a halfday there and most surrounding offshoot towns, but I also think it was the cold that put ppl off, it was a very frosty night on Tues, so we all stayed home ⛄️
@@joline2730 Thanks joline. Had a look at property in Darlington earlier and it's half the price of York.... which makes it very attractive to me, looks a lot cleaner than York too, was impressed.
@@Megavector2022 Ah, now Property - you talk my language 🏠. Depends what u r after ... but actually the North East is pretty run down and certainly does not have the kudos York has . . . A 2bed miner's cottage in Darlo, if in fairly good condition will cost around £70k upwards, in very bad condition and needing full refurb then it's about £40k to £45k (don't pay more!). But every town has it's low end and high end, and in the "West End" area they are anything from £350,000 upwards to perhaps £900,000 ?? (maybe more, for a 3/4bedder.) If you live in York or outskirts then don't come up here unless you are skint - they don't increase in value that much.
@@joline2730 You would be suprised, a lot of the York indigenous population want to get out of here, no kudos, that's a bit of a myth and very clever marketing by the Council so they can charge higher rates. I live on the outskirts in a 3 bed, bit of a waste really as there's only me lives here. I guess the way forward for me is a bit more research and a drive up to assess the areas.
@@Megavector2022 I can give you ideas of good and bad areas, covering all of County Durham : GOOD: Durham City (expensive) or outskirts (cheaper) - it's a University Town so lots of Rentals. Gainsford, Spennymoor, Heighington, Whitby, Sedgefield, Middridge, Newton Aycliffe, Houghton Le Spring. BAD: Horden (the worst!), Peterlee, Shildon, Bishop Auckland, Close House, Coundon. I came up from London, but I spent TWO YEARS researching the whole of the county first! On R/move search the minimum price and you will get a good idea of what the areas are like. Bus services are generally good, but not a lot of work opportunities. Hope this helps 🙏
That H. Samuel at 13:13 is where I bought the wife's engagement ring 💍 around Christmas 1982 and proposed on New Year's Eve. 40th anniversary just gone (married 1984). 😮 Ta +1 ❤🇨🇵. The Peases were Quakers and didn't drink. One of the family was a wine and spirits merchant on the Market Place though - business is business. 😊 No pubs on the land that was owned by them. P.S. My wife is the great-granddaughter of H. Taylor (the butcher) himself 😍👍.

I know I recommended the indoor market to you James. I must say it was really disappointing!! Obviously due to covid, a lot of stalls have ceased trading, sorry!! I used to take my mum & dad to the Sunflower cafe, when they used visit from Wales. Brought very happy memories back of my mum, as I lost her in 2015, very suddenly to a massive heart attack. I moved back home to Wales in 2020, couldn't believe how quiet Darlington were as was always really busy any day of the week! Take care and enjoy your birthday weekend with your daughter and parents. Make that extra effort to see them more often, and make those special memories!! Dawn & Jay😊🤩🏴🏴
Don’t get disheartened James. Coming back from Texas to Darlington is a culture shock. Get to the sea side get Helen to come along you’ll soon pick up where you left off. Love what you do. Keep on doing it. Happy birthday for the weekend enjoy quality time with the family. ❤
James we really enjoyed this video, it's not really about the crowds it's showing new places off. Thought Darlington looked great, nowt wrong with it. Thanks for taking us there, looking forward to the coast. True about the poor signals, I'm with Tesco and rarely get a good signal in Harrogate!
Bob Mortimer is one of my most favourite people ever to have graced this globe. He has made me laugh and smile and saved my sanity when I’ve been at my very lowest. He’s a comic with true funny bones coupled with the imagination the of thousand irrepressible creative geniuses. He is the Little Big Man of comedy. I love his mind. Equating the ‘Quaker’ Joseph Pease with the Kardashian’s! ! What are you on James!!🤣😂🤣 They could not be more dissimilar, apart from the cash side of things.🤣😂 This country is brilliant, it just that those who run it would not be allowed in the Boot & Shoe.😉 That is disgraceful of Chatsworth. Clearly it’s a failure to make reasonable adjustments for a disabled person as required by the ‘Equality Act 2010’ . A formal complaint is justified here James. Loved the vlog, brought back memories of Christmas shopping there and the odd boozy do too! Shame you were there on the mid week doldrums. Stay warm, happy travels. Bob Rules.😁
Thanks once again for all your hard work in producing the vlogs, love the professionalism of the editing of your vlogs and look forward to seeing what you have planned for the future, new van and of course maybe that new house with Helen haha. Anyways take care and all the best, Peter.
Always enjoy watching your vlogs James. As an ex Darlo lad I thought your vlog of Darlington hit the right spots especially as it was a Wednesday. Keep the vlogs going you and Helen are a quality double act 👍
You just picked a bad day James. Its usually busier than that. It is a lovely town its good to see that you werent totally negative about it. I still enjoyed this video. Thanks James.
Thank you for putting the vlog up James and showing our hometown in a good light. The little cafe you bought the scone in does some fantastic home cooked food, you should have tried the pie! Yes the phone signal in 'Darlo' is rubbish, and we have the EE call centre on the edge of town!
I am a curber.! San Antonio to Darlington doesn't sound the same as Stockton to Darlington but that's what you have done. Both look like places I would like to visit tho. Great video James, always puts a smile on my face when I see you have uploaded a video. 😊

Great to see you doing more stuff in the North East - I was born in Middlesbrough and brought up in a nearby but busy-ish market town called Stokesely, not far from Darlington. I've lived away from there since 1992 but pretty much most of my family are still all up there (I'm in Poole, Dorset now). I'm looking to move back up to the NE in the next couple of years, so great to see videos like this to give me some ideas of what different areas are like nowadays - look forward to your next one starting at Redcar! You should come and do a VLOG down around the Poole area at some point as well - I think you'd like it here!

I enjoyed this vlog. It’s real life. I absolutely hate fake people. You are authentic. The town is very cute. Thank you for taking us there. When I was in Camden Market in London last month on a Sunday it was so crowded. My daughter and I walked different directions when shopping and we lost each other for over an hour and guess what…neither of us had phone service. Thank goodness she’s tall and had a bandanna on her head so I was able to spot her head bopping around way off in the distance. But it was pretty weird to be such a busy area had no service. Happy Birthday. I hope you have a great time celebrating.

We've been watching and enjoying your videos for ages but we're not sure we're welcome as Southerners on your channel! It seems very aimed at Yorkshire folk. Come down to the South and stay a bit longer than a couple of days. There's loads of history and beautiful places down here
You're definitely welcome it's just I try to stay near to my daughter as I spend quite a lot of time with her, but I promise I'll come down south really soon.
It's not about not being welcome, it's a lot more of a headache to drive down south from up north these days, too much roadworks, too much traffic on the roads and long journey times.
I live in Darlington and enjoyed the video but you probably need to do a bit more research before you visit because you missed a load of interesting places some of which you literally walked past.

It might not be your thing, but it is very unique and something different to film, I know its a canny way off yet, but something to consider for next year.

The festival has been going for 60 years - next year August 2025 is 60th anniversary festival. Its the cultural highlight of north east
Thanks mate, looks interesting
I do enjoy your videos/vlogs. ;-)
Great video James watched few of your videos now keep up great work
Shocking about Chatsworth. I've never been and won't ever bother now! I'd have expected so much better from one of our iconic national treasures. Rip off Britain alive and well with the Cavendish family.
We actually quite enjoyed it James thankyou. Also thanks for the heads up on Chatsworth.
Happy Birthday for the weekend, James!
Thank you
I enjoyed that vlog James!
And...
Salvage Hunters etc etc
Just...middle-aged "blokes" take on the world around them.
Highlights of this video for ME, were...
1. Seeing that Stephensons Rocket bridge!...because I own a copy of the original biography of Robert Stephenson printed in 1864.
2. Did you notice that the woman you spoke to in Boyes...was a SOUTHERNER? 🤔
I wonder what her story was?
Thats Bob Mortimer territory isnt it?! 😂 @bythecurb
And...Chris Rea!
He might pop an egg in your bath if you ask nicely! 😂
We dont even have to find a Tesco for our ablutions, we cant complain at that can we 😊
Perfectly said! 😊 @@judepicton6252
Bob Mortimer is a National Treasure
Vic Reeves is from Darlington. His band/group beat my band in Darlo "Battle of the Bands" in 1978.
My home town! Thank you for coming mate, when you went past the viking coffee it was my Mrs working there hahaha
Always enjoy all your vlogs and posts. They are always very informative.
The vlog brought back memories of my mum taking me to Darlington those were the days
I signalled the Mallards sister train ,the Bittern many years ago along with the Flying Scotsman when it came back into service.Very interesting vlog around Darlington James ,i hope Bob was watching !All the best Stuart.
If you haven’t seen it , take a look at Bob Mortimer’s “Tubby Brewster” sketch. Comedy gold. Darlington, home of the railways. Nice video
Good old Bob, love watching him fishing and being mentioned how good is that James ! Well done on your great work..
loved the Texas videos brilliant
All the best Phil & Fay
Thanks Guys
We can’t get a mobile signal ..yet they told us they phoned the men on the moon on a landline in 1969 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
That drone’s gunna be on eBay …The By The Curb lost drone 🤣😂🤣
I am a By the curb fan and will watch whatever you upload because its always something worth watching 😊 glad you and Helen are home safe. Look forward to the next ❤ si thee 😊 x
Have a great birthday James and it doesn't matter where you are you and Helen have great personalities that's why we love your videos ❤
Should have driven an extra 9 miles to Shildon where all the passengers got on the first train. There is also a very good train museum.
Another quality vlog, as always, your last one with the trail hike is the first one I couldn't watch all the way through, reyt scared of heights, never lose your humour it shines.
Mortimer and Whitehouse gone fishing is the best program on tv
Good one James I enjoyed Darlington. It’s a big thumbs down for Chatsworth 👎
No pubs on the land that was owned by them.
P.S. My wife is the great-granddaughter of H. Taylor (the butcher) himself 😍👍.
So lovely to read your great story ,fabulous. congratulations on your 40th wedding anniversary just gone .Good health and happiness for many more.🇬🇧

My dads account fits into your over 50’s, 70% bracket but you shouldn’t assume that just because it’s his account that’s logged into our TV that he’s the one that subscribed, watches & comments on your channel. Don’t overthink it! love Jennifer aged 17 x
Wow Jennifer, you must be one of my youngest viewers! THANK YOU! ❤
👏👏thanks Jennifer 😊
Hi Dawn & Jay, so sorry to hear about your mum ❤️ Don't worry about the market, I went to Middlesbrough today and it was the same
Don’t get disheartened James. Coming back from Texas to Darlington is a culture shock. Get to the sea side get Helen to come along you’ll soon pick up where you left off. Love what you do. Keep on doing it. Happy birthday for the weekend enjoy quality time with the family. ❤
So sorry, but not a good watch. Apologies to folk in Darlington.

! What are you on James!!🤣😂🤣
They could not be more dissimilar, apart from the cash side of things.🤣😂
This country is brilliant, it just that those who run it would not be allowed in the Boot & Shoe.😉
That is disgraceful of Chatsworth.
Bob Rules.😁
Thanks Bob. No idea why I said Kardashians, I just say the first thing that comes into my head sometimes

Thanks once again for all your hard work in producing the vlogs, love the professionalism of the editing of your vlogs and look forward to seeing what you have planned for the future, new van and of course maybe that new house with Helen haha. Anyways take care and all the best, Peter.
Thank you so much Peter ❤
Always enjoy watching your vlogs James. As an ex Darlo lad I thought your vlog of Darlington hit the right spots especially as it was a Wednesday. Keep the vlogs going you and Helen are a quality double act 👍
A Yorkshire man feeling ...bitter....that always gives me a lift...🌹
Happy birthday mate , video was ok Darlington looks ok ..
Chatsworth can do one !.
Have a good weekend
The comedown from sunny Texas to Darlington is real lol
You just picked a bad day James. Its usually busier than that. It is a lovely town its good to see that you werent totally negative about it. I still enjoyed this video. Thanks James.
G1: you are right, I've never seen it as quiet ... I was there on a Tuesday a cuppla weeks ago and it was quite busy ... 😊
@joline2730 i dont think the cold weather helped Joline. It was a very cold day when James visited. Thanks for the reply.
Thank you for putting the vlog up James and showing our hometown in a good light. The little cafe you bought the scone in does some fantastic home cooked food, you should have tried the pie! Yes the phone signal in 'Darlo' is rubbish, and we have the EE call centre on the edge of town!
Just become patrons of your channel.
Love from Andy and Sharon from Hull ❤
Thank you so much
I am a curber.! San Antonio to Darlington doesn't sound the same as Stockton to Darlington but that's what you have done. Both look like places I would like to visit tho. Great video James, always puts a smile on my face when I see you have uploaded a video. 😊
Thank you :-)
They are shafting us in every orriface! A super vlog, James! ❤
Wow can’t believe Bob watches you - I did see an interview he loved the van life videos and turns out he’s been watching you the whole time. He’s great love it
Well done from Texas to Darlington brilliant James 👏
Great to see you doing more stuff in the North East - I was born in Middlesbrough and brought up in a nearby but busy-ish market town called Stokesely, not far from Darlington. I've lived away from there since 1992 but pretty much most of my family are still all up there (I'm in Poole, Dorset now). I'm looking to move back up to the NE in the next couple of years, so great to see videos like this to give me some ideas of what different areas are like nowadays - look forward to your next one starting at Redcar!
You should come and do a VLOG down around the Poole area at some point as well - I think you'd like it here!
Omfg u came to darlo wow only live down the rd love darlo u went past north rd there fish shop is amazing fish is a wale lol enjoyed this vid coffee shop top of in dr market do fantastic stuff with custard lol nom stay warm cos it’s been freezing over here hun 🇬🇧💯🌺Tracie’s vibes 👍👍👍
Nowt wrong with vid. I enjoyed it. The karaoke and music blasting on a Wednesday afternoon. Belter. 😂
Nightmare about the drone!
And yeah, you are bang on about mobile signal. It's shocking at times.
P.S. Happy birthday for Saturday. 🙂
I know that you felt that it was really boring walking around and not much going on. But you definitely let everyone see how lovely of a place Darlington is. Also, maybe because you were by yourself and you and Helen have been together the last few weeks.but thank you for sharing this vlog. Always following you guys, from Canada.🇨🇦
So happy for you and your channel James & to be acknowledged by a comedy great in Bob Mortimer is something else, without a doubt you are mine and my wife's favourite you tube channel and always enjoy every vlog, absolutely loved the mini series in Texas that was awesome viewing and all your subscribers fully appreciate how much you and Helen put into making this channel a MUST watch ❤️👍
Thank you 🙂❤️

I enjoyed this vlog. It’s real life. I absolutely hate fake people. You are authentic. The town is very cute. Thank you for taking us there. When I was in Camden Market in London last month on a Sunday it was so crowded. My daughter and I walked different directions when shopping and we lost each other for over an hour and guess what…neither of us had phone service. Thank goodness she’s tall and had a bandanna on her head so I was able to spot her head bopping around way off in the distance. But it was pretty weird to be such a busy area had no service. Happy Birthday. I hope you have a great time celebrating.
its so neat how youve set that van up with th TV at the end of the bed. Do you hear a lot of noise from the outside though?
It can get very cosy and I sometimes forget I'm in a van

As a 35 year old male in a 66 year old body and someone who has never been to Darlington. I loved it as it was very informative. It has a Santander bank which are like rocking horse **** to find. Loved the indoor market, The fresh looking fruit n veg looked awesome. So they would be on my to do list and a fab pub with a DJ in the afternoon. Great for us young at heart old gits who are asleep by 8pm lol. The Boot and Shoe if I remember rightly. I will research further. So for every troll saying boring there are probably 10 of us who get something from it but don't normally say or comment..The no1 info was good to hear too. R.I.P old drone, you served James well. Keep on doing what you do James, its worked up to now.
Yorkshire folk are very friendly, and we all enjoy By the Curb 😊
It's not about not being welcome, it's a lot more of a headache to drive down south from up north these days, too much roadworks, too much traffic on the roads and long journey times.
I live in Darlington and enjoyed the video but you probably need to do a bit more research before you visit because you missed a load of interesting places some of which you literally walked past.
James,we always enjoy your vlogs, these things happen, you do take us on some great adventures, no matter what 😅❤
