@DarrenJohn so happy for you life is to short. Enjoy your life. Just keep us up to date with your channel. I hope you meet someone lovely that makes happy xx
We did the same nearly 3 years ago and have no regrets at all , despite having 5 kids between us, 11 grandkids and a great grandson…..the kids are really supportive and loved the fact we are following a dream…. We came to Hua Hin, never been before and love it. It’s got a bit of everything and easy to get about….x
Well big man , I can't bloody wait for you to get there , the journey , the new abode, the new everything. Its going to explode on here. Let's go big man.. 🙌
Good luck with everything mate,it’s a big jump to make but it’s definitely worth giving yourself a go at a new start.I did the same 2 years ago for pretty much the same reasons as you,I jacked everything in and moved to Chiang Mai,haven’t regretted a thing so far.My health, both physical and mental has improved by leaps and bounds and I’m finally in a place where Ive been able to relax and enjoy a slower pace of life.If you want a bit of advice though I’d say don’t buy a condo in Thailand definitely rent, for at least the first few years and also think about health insurance.I know a lot of people say they “self insure” meaning they wait until they’re in hospital and then pay,all well and good if it’s minor, but if you’re in intensive care or a cardiac unit then you’re looking at 100’s of 1000’s of baht and watching your savings disappear rapidly. It doesn’t have to be expensive,I’m 59 and pay around £1000 a year for up to 10 million baht cover, definitely something to consider mate other than that, best of luck on your new life and enjoy the adventure 😊👍
Nice one for this update Darren. Totally relate to what you’re doing mate and I wish you all the best. Also really pleased to see your channel growing! Well deserved 🙂
Only just come across your channel. Good luck with the move. I retired to Asia at 45 (7 years ago) currently living in Vietnam. Thailand is a good choice, so many options. Don't rush into buying anywhere or getting married!!
And England is going to the dogs. And you can have a much better way of life and never cold. I have live un a studio and is great for a signle guy ( maybe to small for you ) i have pool bars resturants on site i pay about 220 pound rent elec water wifi. If you are staying about Pattaya look at Jomtien 10 mins on the bus to Pattaya and has a better beach and not so busy.
Feel I've been on such a journey with you. Not many people are as open and articulate about our modern life. Your story is personal but very very relatable. And in some way your vulnerability is an inspiration. Thanks Darren
Yeah, with you all the way. Good reasons all. Go for it, make it work. You'll figure it out when you get there. You're clearly well equipped to deal with any challenges along the way. I truly wish you well DJ.
I've been to Phuket on holiday and loved it. Good luck Darren. I wish you safe travels and indulge in your new adventure. I'll still think of you when I'm near Borough Msrket at my appointments at Guy's and will obviously continue watching your channel. Stay safe and Keep The Faith

Good luck Darren. Exactly, the worst that can happen is you come back. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes you need a fresh perspective and being in new environment will either make you fall in love with something new or help you to find love for something old. Its a win win situation for you mate, just enjoy the ride. Looking forward to the next phase in your journey 😀

Hi darren john i migrated to australia from chelmsford essex 54 years ago its hard to start but does get easier. Just watch out for those bar girls ha ha. Looking forward to vlogs from thailand etc and good luck ❤❤😊😊
I retired at 57 after redundancy. I was in Construction for 20 years and 16 with my last employer. Though getting interviews for full-time jobs I believe age was a factor in not actually getting those jobs. That's fair enough and acceptance of that fact made emigrating to Thailand easy for me. After 8 years in Pattaya, I have no regrets. Getting used to the heat isn't easy but you are never too far from somewhere with aircon, be it a shopping mall, a bar, cafe or restaurant. I wish you all the best. Discover the rest of S.E.Asia and beyond. Flights and hotels are so much cheaper than in the West. You will have a period of getting to grips with the red tape and culture differences but patience is the key; you will be retired and out of the rat race. Stay chilled and enjoy.
8 yrs in patts, ffs 8 days is nearly 2 much, its great for a blow out but pattaya isint thailand & thailand is losing its charm a bit, maybe its just me but ive been coming here regulary since 2009
We lived in Bali and found the architecture was built to suit the climate. That said, I was in Zara one day (yes, they have it) turned around to the mirror and saw I had a heat rash. Crazy stuff.
How right, give it a go, you have nothing to lose, bikes are nice, they are only things, hart felt, to leave home, spread your wings, you still have choice if it don’t work.wishing you well
Good man Darren, nothing ventured nothing gained. Living in the UK/Europe with its fast pace of life the years seem to fly by, best do this now when in decent health. . Look forward to following this adventure. Kevin
Wishing you all the very best in your new life Darren follow your dreams and enjoy your new life, well done for making this decision and going ahead with your new plans, i love London been many times but you have to do whats right for you x
You are getting out at the right time. I spent a few happy years in South Asia and it was worthwhile doing. 67 now and the arthritis is getting bad so I stay home now.
I do a few months in South East Asia then come back the uk for 5-6 months , then head out again for 4/5 months . I couldn’t live there full time . I also wouldn’t like to be sick out there . People say how amazing the 5 star hospitals are in Thailand. I know people that have been to them and the staff are clueless. Don’t buy , rent . Don’t be suckered into a relationship. Enjoy many 😂 .
I agree with everything you said. I aim to semi retire out there soon for 4/5 months through the winter and then back for the spring. Definitely don't buy out there. Keep your assets over here and why on earth guys get in relationship's over there? Have a different relationship every day 😁
Hi Darren, I am from the UK but have now retired to Phitsanulok Thailand, I have been watching your videos for over a year now, I can well understand you decision to move to Thailand, I would advise that you do not waste your money using an agent for your visa. The process is so simple and the required documents are so easy to obtain. Good luck.
As I said before admire your decision to leave & create a new chapter in your life You did an amazing job vlogging in London & Tenerife but now the opportunity awaits in Thailand for you & want to wish you every success for the future ❤ We look forward to your new Life there We are so happy we met you & think you are a great guy who is setting off on a new adventure Wish you all the best from your Irish friends 💚xx
Hi Darren, I moved to Chiang Mai 14 months ago after 4 years in Laos and moving from Australia. It is the best move I've ever made. I'm 51 and not retired but am blessed to have a full time job here with an international company. I have a triumph T120 and the riding in the mountains and plains surrounding Chiang Mai are the best I've ever ridden and the scenery is just breathtaking. The amount of times I go around a new bend with a new viewpoint and the goosebumps that fire is countless. I hope you revisit Chiang Mai again and get on a big bike and do some touring. You won't regret it mate. Check out the famous Mae Hong Song loop.
I am 67 and the older I get the harder the winter is on my body, I am lucky my daughter lives in Dubai so I can spend the winter there, you are doing the right thing giving yourself one year then make the final decision. I love my homeland but I don't love what it has become.
Hi Darren, it seems that how your personal working situation has changed has influenced your decision to leave the country. I have always lived “ up North “ and have visited London three times. Twice on day trips from Sheffield and once for a job interview. I personally wasn’t keen on the place. Like you mentioned, like it or dislike it . I totally understand where you are coming from regarding work. I was a Department Manager in retail many years ago and faced restructuring where my job was in effect wiped out and facing the prospect of redundancy, I accepted a position with less pay in a different location in the city I was the worker in the family with a wife and two young children and lasted 18 months in this new job before I left with depression. This was twenty odd years ago and things worked out well. You make a good go of it in Thailand. Good luck my friend. I will keep following you and look forward to seeing your future ventures.
Well Darren Yes I bet you cannot wait to get out of the very depressing UK. I fully understand your reasons for leaving the UK,I know you said that London was the major part of your life but it has changed so much. Now you can look forward to the next part of your life. Again thank you for sharing.
I left the uk 3 years ago at the age of 45 after living there all my life. I moved to Thailand and it has been the best move I ever made. The freedoms I enjoy here are way beyond the BS I faced in the uk on a daily basis where even dealing with simple queries with the council or utility companies was an absolute ball ache. Anyhow I now live in a 1 bedroom ocean view condo on jomtien beach, 5 star hotel facilities such as 2 infinity swimming pools, 24 hour security, secure parking, great gym, games room, sauna, on-site restaurant and bar all for £400 a month inclusive. No council tax, no tv license, electric £75 a month, water £5 a month, WiFi £15 a month, mobile £10 a month, £5 an hour massages etc…. Food delivery to the door, night market 300 metres walk, beach 300 metres…..what’s not to love 🤷♂️
@@DarrenJohnif you’re phone is unlocked, then just buy a sim when you arrive There are plenty of counters in suvarnabhum airport dotted around the place. Just go up to one with your passport and get a throw away 7, 14, 30 day plan….. I would choose AIS as the provider. Then when you have a permanent ish residence, you can go into one of the providers in your nearest shopping mall and show your tenancy contract and passport to get an annual/ monthly plan…… that’s how I did it anyway Search riviera ocean drive on RUclips and you will see exactly what my condo is all about and also to give you an idea of exactly what you can get over here
@@DarrenJohnbuy a sim at the airport to tie you over for a short period, they are cheap enough about £8 for a fortnight and then pop into a shopping mall and sign up for an annual contract when you have a more stable residence
I honestly wish you all the very best and hope all works out well. I look forward to seeing your future videos with all you planning etc. There are a few things I could say but I have no desire to be negative . We are all different. It is something my wife and I planned to do a few years back. We had a totally unexpected set back. I am now 77 and wife 71.We do have a house and cottage by the sea in the Philippines. At the moment I have health issues and cannot travel but will definitely do so when fit again.
Darren you have hit the nail on the head if you are not happy do something, change it. i was in a position in 1994 after 2 years of a very unhappy marraige i said thats it im out of here and i have been so lucky i have met my true soul mate and we have been so happy best thing i ever done been happliy married for 26 years, follow your dream Darren and enjoy it as i have mine good luck m8.
Good on you, it's time to make the change and go for it, the change could add another ten years to your life, so glad i found your channel, has i am thinking off selling up after the loss off my wife , and it will be great to follow you, and watch all you new experiences s and to learn some tips from you, good luck with your life journey .JC.
Hello Darren looking forward to your next vlog on how you are planning to get through the red tape on moving to Thailand I am looking to go there for the winter months ours of course and to travel by motorbike to see the culture looking forward to your next vlog keep going mate and keep strong
I'm retiring to Asia in a few years time but luckily I discovered Sardinia in the meantime as I don't enjoy flying & it has many of the things I love . Good luck to you anyway.

Well Darren Yes I bet you cannot wait to get out of the very depressing UK.
I fully understand your reasons for leaving the UK,I know you said that London was the major part of your life but it has changed so much.
Now you can look forward to the next part of your life.
Again thank you for sharing.
All the very best, can’t wait to see your vlogs x
Set your sails Darren 🤗👍
That's the plan!
Good luck for the future and happy Christmas
You too
I left the uk 3 years ago at the age of 45 after living there all my life.
Sounds perfect.
With regards to mobile phone, is it easier to buy one when I'm there or use a sim in mine?
@@DarrenJohnif you’re phone is unlocked, then just buy a sim when you arrive
There are plenty of counters in suvarnabhum airport dotted around the place. Just go up to one with your passport and get a throw away 7, 14, 30 day plan….. I would choose AIS as the provider. Then when you have a permanent ish residence, you can go into one of the providers in your nearest shopping mall and show your tenancy contract and passport to get an annual/ monthly plan…… that’s how I did it anyway
Search riviera ocean drive on RUclips and you will see exactly what my condo is all about and also to give you an idea of exactly what you can get over here
@@DarrenJohnbuy a sim at the airport to tie you over for a short period, they are cheap enough about £8 for a fortnight and then pop into a shopping mall and sign up for an annual contract when you have a more stable residence
