I don't know who Selfridges hired to do the Christmas merchandizing but they hit that one out of the park! That is just amazing!! I ma 74 years old and I can remember our little Mom and Pop shops here in the US decking their halls every Christmas like this. That just really puts you in the Christmas mood for sure! I’ve just discovered your channel a few weeks ago. I’m stuck in my house a lot of the time as a carer for my husband and my son, so I don’t get out and about like I’d like. I've raised three children and I've never had a Christmas color scheme. It's all eclectic with ornaments going back to my childhood and spanning my children's childhoods interspersed with individual ornaments that I've found along the way that I thought were pretty. Most everything has a story behind it. Last year I bought 2 strings of wooden "garland" handmade by an Etsy seller, to put around the tree, each a different color wood stain. I'm sure I could have fallen in love with one of those ornaments you showed us and bought it to add to the collection!

I accidentally got stuck inside the Bull Ring in Birmingham last week. I only wanted to get the escalator out but kept getting caught in the queue for the opening of Sephora. It was like that lingerie shop scene from Father Ted. I then found myself in the Frankfurt style Christmas market outside. I've never been more relieved to get on the train home. I have renewed admiration for all you do Hannah and am much happier vicariously visiting these places with you. Thanks for another lovely start to the weekend.

I absolutely love all the amazing Christmas decorations. I would buy one at each store. My Christmas tree has ornaments from when I was a child to those I have bought on recent travels. Everyone has a story and the only theme is special to me ❤.
My Auntie Nellie (b.1901 ) worked in the Antiques department at Liberty’s in 1920’s. She still loved ‘hunting’ in the many second hand shops in old age,a few things I was able to retrieve.🇬🇧🇬🇧

I used to say that Libertys was a must visit at Christmas, but now Selfridges have changed my mine. I am almost tempted to start collecting Village displays - but then remember, 1. I don’t have the budget, and 2. I hate having to store seasonal stuff. I went to B&M and bought a few nice bits for our tree - so much more sensibly priced

The depth and breadth of the merchandise is absolutely incredible. Do the retailers actually expect to sell a majority of the items they offer? Of course, at the price points offered, they probably don't need to sell many units and yet turn a profit. It appears you could dress every home in England for the Holidays and still have merchandise remaining on the shelves. Truly a surfeit of baubles, dustables, keepsakes and tchotchkes!

I am Canadian. A few years ago Galen Weston bought Selfridges. He owns in Canada a chain grocery store company called President’s Choice. The point of his company was to bring low price groceries by not being fancy on the commercials, boxes, or signage. I notice the yellow and black tree and most President Choice products are yellow and black. You said Selfridges went through a change where everything was simple and in the last few years it’s gotten better. Galen can be tongue in cheek so I am not surprised by the Christmas ornaments that are the popular people. The yellow and black tree is a nod to his President Choice product line.
Selfridges has really outdone itself in their Christmas Shop. Beautiful beyond words. Especially their decorated trees. Really enjoyed this vlog. Can’t wait to see if Harrods tops Selfridges in the Christmas decoration department. Barbara in USA. Coming there in Dec.

This year I’m doing white decor because I’ve moved back from a winter white central Canada to my grey and rainy west coast. On the plus side, yesterday I walked to the beach then dug up my potatoes. ❤️
Thank you Hannah, for filling my soul with joy and wonderful memories from 70 years ago when I went every Christmas to Selfridges to meet Santa, not forgetting Mr Pickwick and the magical winter wonderland. A little train took us through amazing winter scenery with animals and snow. This year Selfrdges has done so well. The main windows used to have a small running train that looped continually through the windows drawing attention to all the Christmas goodies. All along Oxford Street would be the roasted chestnut stalls. They served them in paper cones to warm your hands in the frosty night air. ❤❤

Hannah - thanks for a great start to the Christmas vlogs - Liberty & Selfridges - wow! As to you question about decorations for how we decorate - I have to say I am a traditionalist - red's, green's, woodland items. Also, don't worry about how you look (I don't have 4K, but I do understand that looks matter on the internet) , you are a very pretty woman and if you feel good when you go out to do these vlogs, who cares what other people think. I enjoy the content of what you are sharing with us, not how you look or if you are wearing the "correct/trendy" clothing and styling. You noted that it would be expensive if you decorated your tree with all the orniments from Liberty - well, if you slowly buy one each year, one that you really like (like your headgehog), then over time you will build a collection of decorations where you won't want to buy new/different ones each year. (too sensible ?) I would just go into the stores to look at the design of them, if they all looked liked Liberty. And please feel free to share whatever architectural history you have about buildings like this, I find it very interesting. (I was trying as I was watching so looking forward to the part about Selfridges). Thanks again for the vlog, can;t wait for more to come.

The best time for buying Christmas ornaments, is right after Christmas.... During the sales. I go for the most expensive stuff I can affort. Like artisan made glass baulbes... I don't put them on a tree though. They're window ornaments. Love from Norway ❤😊🎉
If anyone visits for Christmas, try and go to the Palladium theatre opposite Liberty's. There's a pantomime every year and its very funny. Liberty's often give free gift tags, so always ask.

We’re doing a red and silver tree this year. Last year was blue and silver. We’re doing a 5 yearly rotation of Christmas colours. Next year it’ll be pink and silver.
I moved out from London 3 years ago and I remember Selfridges being not as good as Harrods and F&M. But they really transformed themselves. This way better than the other two.

In the United States the Christmas villages used to be popular like 20 years ago , hallmark used to have a huge display of them in there stores and a friend of mine had the coke cola theme , it was cute!! but hallmark stopped selling the Christmas villages years and years ago ! Maybe they’re making a come back !❤
Yippy Hannah in Liberty at Christmas. Lovely start to the weekend. Selfridges was way nicer that Liberty this year. Liberty trees were so dull and looked almost depressing. I live in Germany and the hand blown glass tree ornaments or hand crafted wood ornaments from the Erzgebirge are much more expensive.. but people here buy one or two new special ornaments to add to their tree each year. And pad out with normal baubles.

I save your vlogs for Sunday afternoon when I can relax and enjoy them at leisure. I like glittery and shiny things with lots of different colors. Selfridges definitely has the better display and collection. Love the nostalgic ornaments and knicknacks -- and that Christmas Village. I also love all the Advent Calendars available in England and Europe. Some of them are quite beautiful. The few available here in the US are usually tacky and filled with bad quality chocolate. Huge variety of baubles which are really creative a good gift idea for friends and co-workers. This is also a nice reminder to start my Christmas shopping which I definitely have not left until the beginning of December! I'm just imagining the crowds now...

The little houses around 28 minutes in are by a company called Lemax. They also make similar things with a Halloween theme and have a bit of a cult-like following in some parts of the US and Canada. Selfridges has a particularly nice display of them. As for how much it would cost to do a village... well... I've heard of people getting lucky on Facebook marketplace or even garage sales and finding a whole collection for a few hundred dollars, but in general the houses go for between $50 for a simple lit building up to $250 for one of the animated ones and the little figurines start at $3-5 and go up from there. Sometimes I've gotten really lucky and found pieces for 80% off on clearance in January. Best to take it slow and shop sales and clearance and look online to build a village over a number of years. This year I’m doing white decor because I’ve moved back from a winter white central Canada to my grey and rainy west coast. On the plus side, yesterday I walked to the beach then dug up my potatoes. ❤️
Thank you Hannah, for filling my soul with joy and wonderful memories from 70 years ago when I went every Christmas to Selfridges to meet Santa, not forgetting Mr Pickwick and the magical winter wonderland. A little train took us through amazing winter scenery with animals and snow. This year Selfrdges has done so well. The main windows used to have a small running train that looped continually through the windows drawing attention to all the Christmas goodies. All along Oxford Street would be the roasted chestnut stalls. They served them in paper cones to warm your hands in the frosty night air. ❤❤

Hannah - thanks for a great start to the Christmas vlogs - Liberty & Selfridges - wow! As to you question about decorations for how we decorate - I have to say I am a traditionalist - red's, green's, woodland items. Also, don't worry about how you look (I don't have 4K, but I do understand that looks matter on the internet) , you are a very pretty woman and if you feel good when you go out to do these vlogs, who cares what other people think. I enjoy the content of what you are sharing with us, not how you look or if you are wearing the "correct/trendy" clothing and styling. You noted that it would be expensive if you decorated your tree with all the orniments from Liberty - well, if you slowly buy one each year, one that you really like (like your headgehog), then over time you will build a collection of decorations where you won't want to buy new/different ones each year. (too sensible ?) I would just go into the stores to look at the design of them, if they all looked liked Liberty. And please feel free to share whatever architectural history you have about buildings like this, I find it very interesting. (I was trying as I was watching so looking forward to the part about Selfridges). Thanks again for the vlog, can;t wait for more to come.

If anyone visits for Christmas, try and go to the Palladium theatre opposite Liberty's. There's a pantomime every year and its very funny.
Liberty's often give free gift tags, so always ask.

We’re doing a red and silver tree this year. Last year was blue and silver. We’re doing a 5 yearly rotation of Christmas colours. Next year it’ll be pink and silver.
I moved out from London 3 years ago and I remember Selfridges being not as good as Harrods and F&M. But they really transformed themselves. This way better than the other two.

In the United States the Christmas villages used to be popular like 20 years ago , hallmark used to have a huge display of them in there stores and a friend of mine had the coke cola theme , it was cute!! but hallmark stopped selling the Christmas villages years and years ago !

Yippy Hannah in Liberty at Christmas. Lovely start to the weekend. Selfridges was way nicer that Liberty this year. Liberty trees were so dull and looked almost depressing.
I live in Germany and the hand blown glass tree ornaments or hand crafted wood ornaments from the Erzgebirge are much more expensive.. but people here buy one or two new special ornaments to add to their tree each year. And pad out with normal baubles.

I save your vlogs for Sunday afternoon when I can relax and enjoy them at leisure. I like glittery and shiny things with lots of different colors. Selfridges definitely has the better display and collection. Love the nostalgic ornaments and knicknacks -- and that Christmas Village. I also love all the Advent Calendars available in England and Europe. Some of them are quite beautiful. The few available here in the US are usually tacky and filled with bad quality chocolate. Huge variety of baubles which are really creative a good gift idea for friends and co-workers. This is also a nice reminder to start my Christmas shopping which I definitely have not left until the beginning of December! I'm just imagining the crowds now...

Yeah... Always a pleasant surprise, when I forget about Friday at 6pm, and then you pop up!
The little houses around 28 minutes in are by a company called Lemax. They also make similar things with a Halloween theme and have a bit of a cult-like following in some parts of the US and Canada. Selfridges has a particularly nice display of them.
As for how much it would cost to do a village... well... I've heard of people getting lucky on Facebook marketplace or even garage sales and finding a whole collection for a few hundred dollars, but in general the houses go for between $50 for a simple lit building up to $250 for one of the animated ones and the little figurines start at $3-5 and go up from there. Sometimes I've gotten really lucky and found pieces for 80% off on clearance in January. Best to take it slow and shop sales and clearance and look online to build a village over a number of years.
