  • There are many talents that people deem to be amazing in Paladins - either because they're extremely fun or really powerful! Direct Current has the highest win rate, and talents like Combustible and Chain Reaction are hailed as being some of the most satisfying talents to play in the game. But, what about the opposite end of the spectrum? In this video, AndrewChicken does a deep investigation to find the worst talent in all of Paladins. He explains what makes a good talent, common mistakes talents make, and what talent makes the most mistakes of them all!

    i would also touch on koga's blood reaper talent that actually LOWERS your ult dmg against enemies who don't have a high max hp, especially if they don't stay in your ult for its entire duration

      his tigron's fury not working with some of the cards also seems like questionable talent design to me.. I guess that's a "tradeoff" in some ways, but it's very unintuitive

      Andrew just created new content as a series "character analysis/suggestion" or call it "in depth look at character series"
      I like his in depth look at azaan, we need a corvus analysis to me that character got alot of negatives for talent to card. loadouts

    I have similar problem with Rei. Extension sounds good on paper, but because Chain Heal is a projectile with travel time, this talent makes it even more inconsistent than it already is. Restraint not only becomes obsolete at late game, you also should always prioritize Spirit Link on your teammates (except if you're caught in 1v1). Focus is her only viable talent, making her the most powerful ultimate battery. But increased cooldown force you to rush down Chronos, or you will struggle with cooldown management, especially because you need to be linked to an ally to save them with your ultimate. Disclaimer: I'm not a good player, so take this rant with a grain of salt. I'm aware of my skill issue on my part.

      Respect for acknowledging your skill issue, but as a support whose healing abilities are on cooldowns, any support like that WILL rush chronos, Jenos, Furia, Damba, Grover, and more all want Chronos if they are going full healer (Source; I am a support main)
      But I still agree that Extension is wonkey in that way and I think that one major buff to that one would be so that it ignores walls instead of increases distance I think, or maybe just also increase the projectile speed

    for saati maybe make that the coin instantly explodes with the first hit but does more damage and gives more ult charge. This way it's more like a one time cover denial and not a constant coin spam (hopefully)

      That’s a good idea. It’s funny I was talking about how annoying her coins are and how she should not be able to farm ults bc it’s annoying and stupid, and people were clowning me for it because her ultimate “isn’t that good” lol. Glad I’m not the only one who hates that play style

    I think some talents should be in the kit already, specially for older champions without passive.
    Like aegis for Fernando. There's no need to be a talent when his shield is basically the same hp as khan's. Yet khan's shield is already togglable in kit with his talent making his shield way more tanky than Fernando's while also being smaller.
    Yeah I know "but khan can't protect his teammates" but this is 2024. If you expect Fernando's shield to last more than 3 seconds in a fight you either new or a dps main that complain about shields being boring.

      real. khan is meant to be more offensive and is more CC focused with some small healing support. both of them should have shield toggles instead of Nandos being forced to pick aegis more times than not because he's solo tanking....

      Nah, I never liked aegis playstyle and making it into basekit just makes it too similar to Khan and rein's shield. It just encourages shield spam while nando has so much offensive capability. Scorch and dash talent is way more interactive and fun playing as and against it.
      U could buff default shield if u like it but I prefer shields with cooldowns.

      agree, but this is why OP suggested aegis into base kit, as it currently stands, most nandos I see just pick Aegis to be able to shield whenever they want, which is boring on both sides to be honest but it *is* the meta. pick rate 70%.
      a talent should never be "the meta" by an overwhelming margin like that imo but what do I know.

      My suggestion would just to rework aegis. If ppl still wants defensive capabilities, maybe make it so you deploy ur shield like vivian where u can use all abilities during it, but it reduces the duration to 3 sec, have lower health and have 2 charges of it.
      A little similar to andrew's azaan wall talent suggestion where u generate weaker shields at small bursts.
      This makes it so u still could shield spam but have to be more strategic while upping ur offensive a little. Also wouldnt encourage enemy to must buy wrecker since they can wait it out to promote item variety.

    A few notes about things that is talked about in the video (massive walls of text):
    Zhin Talents: Man, I remember when Yomi wasn't partially in the base kit so the talents has more separation in function (Yomi used to add piercing, infinite range, and the damage on his heavy hit). Well, Smolder's still the same but Yomi vs. Guillotine was a matter of making Zhin better at killing backline dps (infinite range higher damage piercing attack does that for you) or needing to guarantee that kill on the tank (more ult charge, 125% max HP damage, and complete immunity while ulting). At this point, I remember seeing way way wayyy back in the past an idea where Zhin could instead have the two fast sword swings and no heavy hit; this actually makes more sense as a talent now with the partial base kit Yomi because it can be a dps increase but you lose the ability to poke from max range and hit through enemies. Alternatively, remove base kit Yomi and return to having 3 highly different and more powerful talents.
    Lilith Talents: As much as I know it's not a good talent, I think Maelstrom of Chaos is still a well-designed one. It actively changes Lilith's playstyle into a pseudo-dive or pseudo-deathball healer. I think a numbers buff can be sufficient to make this decent and wouldn't break this talent (as long as the numbers don't get insane buff to like 2.5x what it currently has or something like that).
    Barik Talents: Fortify should be the default and Forgefire as the level 8 talent. I could bet all 200+ of my crystals (not that many) that it's the default, though, because it makes Barik have up to 4 semi-permanent turrets and the devs want Barik to appeal to the Constructor-type players first before the Tank-type players.
    Azaan Talents: One of my least played tanks but only because I was much much more actively playing the game like pre-pandemic era of Paladins. Haven't unlocked Eternal yet but from how I felt while playing Persistence vs. Tempering? Persistence feels like a non-option with almost invisible impact to what talentless Azaan feels like. Tempering? Tempering makes me feel like my abilities have so much more impact... and that's exactly what it does and it feels good but also, I am forced to think about using my abilities better because my defense, mobility, and CC is more punishing when I waste them. I've used a Tempering-boosted dash in a way that default dash would've done the same and I died a few seconds before its cooldown finished but it felt more like a learning experience with the talent. I think I will only play Azaan with Tempering also because if I wanted a high sustain off-tank, I have so many other options on frontliners I play more so Persistence really doesn't do it for me.

      I still remember the days when Zhin had the Retaliation talent, and cards that increase his Counter and Billlow durations. They gave Zhin different playstyles, and effectively has some cost because of the benefits the other talents/cards would've granted.

    I still think that saati default coin should be more like ultra kill coins, in the sense that just redirect one shot and the coin talent should change the coin to act like current default coin

    They missed some opportunities to give Tiberius talents that change his play style and showcase more weapons he's proficient at.
    He's titled "The Weapons Masters" yet in the gameplay only uses 2. I think the double leap Talent is fine (but maybe make it so that he spins with a polearm after landing), the explosive sword Talent is also good, though the chakram bounce Talent needs to be changed (make it something that involves another different weapon)

      I think if u poke enough to the point u know u can tank an enemy attack and win, then u go dive mode :)

      (greatly) increase the shield and increase the acid dmg just to change the unnatural persistence into "your accelerate is charge and no longer has cooldowns, slowly refills after 2s without using it"

      What would you think of reworking that talent into: On successful execute with your ultimate, gain 2s of CC and Debuff immunity and heal for 50% of your missing HP
      Another idea could maybe be: During Accelerate and for 1 second after, be CC immune
      Or do you have any other ideas?

      Upon executing a target Yagorath gets a stacking buff that stacks up to 5 times, each stack increasing her max hp too a maximum of 10 000. The stacks are lost when she is defeated
      And no that won't be broken because it's just health and the characters that already counter het like Tyra will still eat her for breakfast, plus Raum also has a build that allows him to have 10 000 hp. Maybe make it so it doesn't work with veteran beacuse it might get problematic than 😅

      @@belledelphinesimp3145 That is an interesting idea, sorta similar to Seris’s Soul Collector, however, to me, that doesn’t seem like that would enable you to play a new-ish playstyle for Yag, it would still just be normal Yag but with extra HP, but I could be wrong, I haven’t played her enough to see any new strat. I can say tho that my talent idea doesn’t seem too different either, since all it does is make you more survivable after an ult, which probably won’t affect normal battle too much either maybe.
      But speaking of max health boosts, I have heard of an idea to just give Yag 8000 HP instead of a base DR, what is your opinion on that? Asking as someone who, again, doesn’t play Yag a lot.
      However, I did just think of two other talents: One where instead of a slow execute, her ultimate is changed to a quick, powerful attack instead that only costs 50% ult charge, maybe a big melee sweep or she spits a massive ball of acid. The other talent might be a bit nuts, but replace her ult with; Heal equal to your ultimate charge, not sure if it should be affected by caut tho. A middle of the road with this concept could be that heal for 0.5% per 1% of ult charge, while being unaffected by caut.

    Your Azaan talent is literally like Dredge's Hurl, and that's why im all up for it.
    Hurl takes away some of the power of harpoon for more accessibility, which is great for decks with Cursed Weaponry and Mortal Skewer.
    Azaan's dash gaining accessibility means it can synergize better with Depths of Despair or Piety

    For me Saati’s talent that the worst as it’s brain dead and just plain annoying to play against. But I get your point on Azaan’s talents and love the new ideas! I don’t understand why EvilMojo doesn’t have a questionnaire form online where you could send them ideas such as these. They have limited resources and many times “more eyes see more” so the players/fans could really help out.🤔

    8:39 THANK YOU! You acknowledged that Forgefire's not perfectly balanced, despite being a creative playstyle. It would be nice if they changed up the numbers a bit and/or reworked Barik's self sustain, like doubling the base turrets' rate of fire while halving the damage (still the same 120 dps per turret but with twice the firing rate) and included a scaled percentage of flame turret damage in the Field Deploy card.

      I think I'd rather have forgefire turrets have more health in general. they are fine in casual until you meet a team that actually tries to destroy your turrets lol.
      om the other hand I feel like my actual sustain is fine with that field deploy card probably lol. maybe I should switch cards...

      @@VinTJ That's understandable, though I imagine with the fact that nobody at higher levels are forced to buy Bulldozer against Barik means that there'd be little-to-no benefit from more turret health when people can buy it and still melt your turrets. I've seen an argument about giving the flame turrets shields, though because Forgefire seems to be an off-oriented talent it might be better to just extend their range to the normal ult's radius and give them a bit more damage so that you have to be smart with their placement versus spamming them on a point and being fine.

    My exact problem with Spring Loaded, it just gives you a buff and incentivizes bomb spamming.
    Either change it, or just make it a roll buff with no extra bombs.

    the worst talent is pyromania for Imani. Lower the primary fire DPS of a character that already suffers with a low DPS. Just give them a tiny AOE that doesn’t apply cauterize

      This is completely incorrect. You should play Imani more, pyromania is a very powerful talent for it's cover denial and crowd control (with heat sink). On my time 1 tricking Imani to masters, I found the most value in pyromania. Mana rift is too slow, and splitting ice is probably her best talent but ice simply doesn't work on ping. The ult charge and damage you get from pyromania are nuts

      Pyromania just sucos at Imani, 800 dmg for a charging shot is not worth It since the aoe is really small. Mana rift is a talent that should be in base kit​@@linklight2

    bariks slug rifle talent was so loved it was added to the battle royale thats how good it is.
    persistent is also his starter so.. it might also be that.

    Tib:
    -13:33 This talent is supposed to be for Tiberius for his 1st talent, so Chakarms auto-hit targets near the attacked wall
    -2nd talent, Heavy Blade has only 2s CD only, but no longer sticks nor explodes (so a proper DMG champion that can consistently attack shields & tanks)
    Azaan:
    21:00 double dashes is good. Another suggestion is, dash has now triple distance but no longer stuns, this can be good to take an enemy away from his team. Or, another suggestion is, dash can now grab multiple enemies.
    23:15 I don't play Azaan, but yes we need that talent!
    22:50 Yes that's good! And to be different than Inara's 2 walls talent, I'd suggest that Azaan gets 4 charges of walls to set separately, but ability CD starts only when all 4 walls are consumed.

    Somehow everyone always tells me Tremors for Inara is the worst. Then I deny the enemy access to the point for the entire game, and my team (except snipers) seems happy

    I have already made a suggestion like this before, and Andrew may have already said this too, but one big thing that they should change about Saati would be that Ricochet coins would only be one hit that deals 100% damage instead, and one idea that I have is to take inspiration from Ultrakill and make her Heads or Tails talent so that coins bounce to each other first instead of enemies, and with each bounce increase that damage dealt, but in this case, they would probably need to lower the pip cost of coins

    then we have rei with:
    * A talent that does literally nothing in most case (and in a few cases it delays the heal from going cooldown)
    * A "anti-heal" talent with a incredibly specific trigger condition
    * A talent that, despite how good it can be in the meta, goes against rei's kit of keeping a link in order to use her F and talent on allies by giving it a cooldown.

    In my opinion its dragon fangs koga for the same reason as coin spam saati. It just encourages you to spam skewer over and over again all game long. It's at least more engaging than coin spam saati but it's still super annoying.

      Murderous Intent doesn't have any downsides after the most recent update, although it's weird that the other two talents reduce blood cost while that one doesn't

    Please do an analysis video on Predatory Instincts Tiberius. Like that has gotta be the most boring and useless talent in the game. To be fair, all of his talents are relatively boring, and none of them are that game changing.

      Another one could maybe be so that, during Billow, he gains flight (Not the bad flight like Imani or Willo ult, but where you look, that is where you fly, like how drogoz flies during his ult, but except, of course, the execute on contact)

    Heads or Tails could be fixed if you needed more than one coin to target 2 enemies… And 4 coins to possibly target 3 enemies. In my opinion, it would involve another kind of game knowledge to execute something so simple in a match. But maybe that's something which is not achievable for everyone.

    I had a reddit that reworked alot of characters and reddit banned it. More or less I think paladins wouldn't care for putting in more work towards their game. Every talent will be an ability tweak and or a straight buff and that's annoying. Id change how characters function and work. Along with other ideas like there being an item shop being inside every spawn room to make way for the ability to crouch, by being able to walk up to the item shop apply known as D.I.M or drogos items market. Where depending on the map has a mysterious shadow figure with glowing eyes hading you items with either a hand or claw or tentacle. And melee stats with animation ideas. But alas my ideas were shot down and nobody gives a damn to even look at them.

    I don’t really think Eternal is worse than Persistence at this point. While yes the damage loss is annoying, I can think of more opportunities where I might be somewhere out of a fight and not want to lose my Ire for stepping back for a few seconds.
    I can think of no situation where I would need lifesteal so bad that I would pick up an item that gets out-scaled by a T2 item.

    I feel you didn't give Saati enough criticism. While Heads or Tails is annoying to play against, it hasn't always been the meta braindead playstyle of Saati.
    Before this, Windows of Opportunity was meta, and it was just as riveting being launched 50 miles in the air and then shot down with no way to move or escape.

      opressor mine used to be extremely op lol. Kinessa could have top damage without even scoping in and it was extremely annoying for enemy team to always have to take down chip damage mini turrets that always constantly is spammed.

    Although predatory instincts has no drawbacks, having wonky invisible walls and unbalanced geometry overall with the surroundings makes the bounces so random you cant even make it bounce properly and hit enemies even with the additional bounces. Some instances already show that you can hit the same part of a wall somewhere in some maps consecutively and it would already bounce differently from the first throw. Its terrible, it doesnt change tiberius' playstyle, and most of the time it just feels like you didnt pick any talent at all.
    What if like, make it so that when you bounce a chakram at a wall, it embraces the power of naruto's kagebunshin technique and splits into two but deals less damage, which also bounces two more times.
    Or maybe make it so that your chakrams deal more damage to enemies you hit with your sword for like 2s. It wont be op since you lose the ability to explode your sword for aoe damage from tigrons fury yet it becomes a better tool for single handedly 1v1ing or bursting a single enemy.
    Or if a rework feels like the better call, then replace it straight up with a talent that makes him immune to controls while using ult, because the ult is the worst thing on tiberius' kit anyways.
    I love my boi so much and he's not receiving any love from both the devs and the community. He has always been my reliable damage champion and his kit is really fun to use.

    Controlled Fury is straight up a nerf because aoe on her is good. Making it concentrated essentially reduces the aoe on her ability. It's not worth the 'tradeoff' of a measly 2 second cooldown reduction because most people will just walk out of it easier.
    Gotta bounce is probably my favorite talent in the game. Weeeeeeeee!
    Fiery Disposition basically does nothing now. Just a little tickle.

    im still malding they removed eagle eye(the fast firerate version) that may have been a little weak but it was fun, and replaced it with oppression, firstly overpowered and unfun and now the most stale and tallent usefull only usefull when using well stocked i think.

      smoke and daggers used to make you invis, I think it even made skye off support/dps playstyle i viable way to play skye. But yeah after the removal of invis of that talent it really has gone down in usage.

    My favorite talent that changed the play style was when Skype had a healing talent. That was probably the most fun I've had playing her.
    Not sure if she still has it or not as I haven't touched the game in 2 years.

    Barik ist the only acual balanced champion in the game. His cards are nearly ok, his talents are good, his base kit is good, you can have skill but can still play him as normal person. (nearly) Every other champ is to strong to weak or just not flexible enough to make fun top play, /against.

    Well I would add a 3rd worst talent: Skye's preparation cuz it's jut completely useless and no one will ever pick it cuz it's just really really bad cuz why do u even need that dmg reduction for when it's only on her hidden but it's also reducing hiddens duration to 3 secounds and u can't increase it in any way. Why would u even want that ur not gonna be running around with hidden and tank dmg, u want to sneak on someone and kill him and when u attack someone u go out of hidden so u no longer have any dmg reduction so this talent does nothing really.

    I believe that the worst talent in the game is strix last talent which makes it easier to no-scope and it sets people ablaze, what’s the point to that? Sure you get to light people on fire and you can no scope but sniping someone in the head with a down site shot deals more damage and is much easier, then kinessas second talent, why teleport faster when you have a talent that makes your sniper much stronger and combos with your ult and then Tyra’s rocket one, more rockets but they deal less damage sure it’s a fine idea if it was for not that it reduces her dps, without it Tyra can deal more damage by firing normal and rocket once in a while when the rocket talent makes her dps lower then just firing, I believe those are the worst talents

      @@kyo4868 for sure, it can absolutely decimate them, but you have to use it for kills rather than for movement, which is what Maeve is kinda all about. Nine lives helps with that, but you won’t have it all the time, and on the fact that your role as a flank is supposed to go after the healer/stragglers rather than the tank, and it’s kinda just there.

    I just had a idea of talents for Azaan...
    TEMPERING: Increase Reckoning size by 50% and make your next conviction knockback the enemy instead of carrying it.
    PERSISTENCE: When Conviction stun its Cooldown is reset.
    ETERNAL: Sanctuary remain as long as not destroyed, can't be destroyed by refiring it, instead refiring heal any damage done to the currently deployed walls, Azaan and allies can damage the walls.
    (CARD)
    DUTY IS A MOUNTAIN: Reduce Ire decay rate and damage bonus by 20/40/60/80/100%, heal every 0.5sec for the Ire value, and when above max Ire 10/20/30/40/50% crowd control reduction(strenght and duration).

      -Deadly Edict: Reduce the CD of Conviction by 2/4/6/8/10 seconds after using Reckoning, but also increase the CD of Reckoning by 1/2/3/4/5 seconds.
      -Forged in Battle: Reduce the CD of Sanctuary by 1/1.5/2/2.5/3 seconds, and increase its health by 100/200/300/400/500.
      -Righteous Fury: Reduce the CD of Reckoning by 2/4/6/8/10 seconds after stunning at enemy with Conviction on a Sanctuary's wall.
      -Ad Eternum: Increase duration and Cooldown of Sanctuary by 1/2/3/4/5 seconds and health by 200/400/600/800/1000.
      -Indignation: Reduce the CD of Conviction by 1/2/3/4/5 seconds, whenever an ally is damaged within 35 unit of the middle wall segment of your sanctuary; this card has a Cooldown of 5 seconds
      -Flame of Wrath: Increase the duration of the lift applied by Reckoning by 0.15/0.30/0.45/0.6/0.75 seconds, but also increase the CD of Reckoning by 1/2/3/4/5 seconds.
      -Solemn Watch: Increase the distance traveled by Conviction by 20/40/60/80/100%, but increase it's cooldown by 0.5/1/1.5/2/2.5 seconds.

    Talents should work like this: first talent simply modifies the champions kit, like cardio viktor. Second should push the character to the max, like bounce house buck, and add an additional effect. Final talent should just modify your ult, like Octavia or Talus. That way, you have one talent that’s easy to use, another that high skill players can pop off with, and one that, even if you’re doing terrible, you can at least do something impactful once in a while.

    I really like the video, but it absolutely does not make any sense for you to say that Drogoz has three great talents that "change his playstyle" but then immediately shit on Zhin's Yomi on the basis of "we were already using the primary fire already" when Drogoz literally has the exact same talent. Zhin's heavy hits already deal more damage, so doing more more damage with Yomi adds nothing to his playstyle. And identically, direct hits with rockets already do more damage than normal, so making it do even more damage with Fusillade doesn't "change the playstyle". Fusillade is objectively just as badly designed as Yomi.

      Fusillade is more conditional than Yomi because it requires direct hits. There are plenty of times with Drogoz where you hit the ground or a wall and still do 850, but Fusillade won't proc.
      You're right that it's less inspired than his other talents, but one other point in its favor is its relation to his other talents. NONE of Zhin's talents change his playstyle, but BOTH of Drogoz's other talents change his playstyle & build choices. So, Fusillade can kind of act like how Fortify does for Barik.
      I agree that it's not the most interesting idea for a talent, but the end result is still that Drogoz has three viable talents, each of which is a distinct playstyle. That's better than most champions!

      ​@@AndrewChicken My point is that both Yomi and Fusillade are badly designed talents that need to be removed. Direct hits with rockets are in the exact same boat as headshots with snipers among other things, which is the literal exact reason why Eagle Eye was completely removed. Not every hit is a direct hit, and not every shot is a headshot. Eagle Eye, Yomi, and Fusillade literally only directly buff the damage of your weapon in some way without changing the way you play in any way whatsoever.
      This also applies to Focusing Lens and Blastflower. You don't change your playstyle to try to land more direct hits with rockets when you're running Fusillade, because you're already trying to do that. Just like you don't change your playstyle to land more headshots, heavy hits, full beams, or constant blasts because you're literally always going to be trying to do that. Yes, you can use those weapons without those exact functions, but there is no reason for you to not to be trying to land them in the first place.
      Hell, Viktor's old Firefight changed his playstyle more than Drogoz does with Fusillade because at least it only worked when he was not ADSing.
      And that's not me defending Firefight in any way, that's me pointing out that Fusillade is so badly designed that even changed your playstyle more than it. Also, I'm not defending Yomi or any of those others, I'm just trying to point out how silly it is to say Fusillade is good for the character when it does the exact same thing as the others.
      Also, if we need a talent that buffs Drogoz' default gameplay in the same way as Fortify, then that's exactly what Wyrm Jets does. Drogoz' entire character design is to fly around so being able to fly faster is a direct buff to any gameplay he has. We don't need 2 default talents on the same character, and Fusillade needs to be replaced.
