If you're having trouble connecting your wii to the Internet, you may need to allow legacy 802.11b for your router. New routers are too powerful for the wii and need to allow for a lower connection. This is just to get you looking in the right direction. Goodluck!

@@tooshort90 I didn't have any SD cards big enough, so I used my 2TB USB drive. Although, the files ended up getting corrupted from downloading the wrong roms, so I wiped everything before I bricked it before getting someone to mod it for me.
You can also do this with your phone. I'm not joking, I did this too. So here are the steps to doing this. 1. Take the piece of the sd card (the small chip) out and place it on your phone. Insert it were you sim card is. 2. Download file manager. 3. Do what the video says and then proceed to unzipping the file in the app. 4. Once you transfer those steps to the sd, eject the chip and put it back on your SD card. DONE! YOU DID IT, JUST GOT TO GET A USB FLASH DRIVE TO DO THE APPS. HOPE THIS WORKS
Hey so I had the same problem this means that you need to go to your wifi routers app (like xfinity) and lower down the power to match with the Wii, as it might be too powerful for the Wii.
I had the same problem I just used a hot spot and both my wii consoles connected to wifi I still couldn't get the home brew channel at the last step I get a black screen with a bunch of words and at the bottom it says error didn't get 200 response Idk what that means
I want to do the dns internet connection method but I'm a little bit scared because I've never home-brewed anything before, I just want to know how easy it could be to brick the wii by doing this method, the main things I want to do on my wii is get ctgp and smash bros universe and the open shop, I've tried to read many articles but none of them state if any of those work on a PAL wii. Fun fact: I got mine to work using a 2 GB SD card. You can use a USB after Homebrew is installed if you plug it in to the top USB port on the back of the console
Brought my old Wii home from my moms after thanksgiving. Had to order a hdmi adapter that comes in a couple days. Can’t wait to give a try hope it still works

Power the Wii console back on, return to the Internet connection settings and complete the Internet setup process. Delete the Internet connection you are using and create a new Internet connection. The first time I tried it I got as far as the text popping up, it took a few minutes to load then it said network configuration failed and there was an error I unplugged the console and tried again. This time I was stuck at the blue MLP screen for about 20 minutes. I unplugged the console and retried it again, this time disconnecting and reconnecting to my internet since my wii has been connected to the internet. Now I’ve been stuck at the testing connection screen for 10 minutes and idk why it’s not working. Update: I got it to work now idk why it wasn’t before but I just turned off the console and connected to the internet and did everything else with no issues. Great tutorial I’ve been wondering about home brewing my Wii for a while.
If you have a newer router, you'll have to change 1 thing in admin settings on your router for your wii to connect to the internet. Log into router admin panel (10.0.0.1), go to wifi settings, and change the mode to include b or g wifi. It is likely just using n currently, and older devices are incompatible.

Currently all I can really do on my Wii is play Mario Galaxy 2, look at the few photos loaded onto it from years ago, and make miis, so this really helped gain access to more stuff
I retried the first method 3 times (it worked the third). First time the download text gave me an error, second time my wii mote froze. It's very easy to do with no homebrewing experience :D (april '24)
The Wii that I was trying to do this on was my only Wii in my house, which is my family's, so my parents thought I was breaking it. They stopped me straight away. :(

great video! i followed all the steps in regards to the sd card method. i was able to put the needed info onto the sd card but once i put the card in the Wii i can't find the red envelope. my Wiis date is accurate so I'm not sure what to do.
Quick question: what if it doesn’t show the blue screen and instead shows the regular “Wii network services user agreement?” I did all the steps correctly but it doesn’t show up with the blue screen like yours did for the first way to homebrew Edit) also is it ok if the Wii automatically changes 18.188.135.9 to 018.188.153.009? Or is that not supposed to happen?

For the SD card method, when the red letter pops up on my message board, every time I click on it, it freezes my Wii and it doesn't seem to do anything unless I power off my Wii, can you help me with this?

My Wii gets stuck on the screen with white text on black background after the my little piney screen it says at the bottom “Cleaning up environment… OK. Finding payload… FAIL. We *may* have smashed it on accident. Hanging.” Can someone help me please?
It did that to me too. I was able to fix it by restarting. I realized that after it fails, when you reload, the DNS Address will be slightly different and won’t work properly. So if you just restart the tutorial then you should be good

Since I currently do not have an SD card I wanted to use the Wifi method. Everything seemed like it was going smoothly until the coding information popped up on my screen after the rainbow dash waiting screen. I waited a few minutes until the configuration seemed to fail. What could I be doing wrong, or missing? Are you sure we can download this w/o an SD card?

There are probably some more easier methods by now too. I remember when we had to get specific disk to be able to get into the hack menu to install the custom firmware via sideloaded save files :) those were the old days :)
I’ve just hacked my Wii with the internet method by following carefully on how to hack it and it works. Now I will go on the process of finding a USB because my SD card for Wii games on it. I’ll be using it to back up all my games including virtual console games to play on my PC via emulation

great tutorial. I couldn't find the letter bomb, and realized i was a day out. Restarted the console after changing the date and still nothing. I then changed the 8gb sd card to a 1gb sd card and popped up straight away.
TIWIK: For anyone whose internet doesn't work and you don't have access to your router for whatever reason, connect it to a hotspot instead. You can easily change settings. Also, in the same internet method, it takes longer than shown in the video, so don't worry if the 1 doesnt show up, or if, after the picture, nothing happens.
My parents bought a cheap Wii from a pawn shop for 2013 Christmas, which of course they chose to spend like $47 on a used Wii bcuz they're cheap AF, they ended up buying a Non GameCube compatible Wii. So I couldn't even use my GameCube controllers or play my GameCube games in it. It just spit my GameCube games out. WHY NINTENDO?! So I understand why it was even at the pawn shop. While the only games I had access to on it were DeBlob 2 and Wii Sports (I didn't get a nunchunk with my controller. Luckily a friend gave me his old one.. Chewed up tho. It also mostly didn't work. Wouldn't connect properly) and that was ALL I had on the Wii. Had a cool skate board toy and a Tony Hawk game, but of course my parents had no idea WTF they were doing and bought random crap that wasn't compatible, so I never did get to play the game. Ended up taking a lot of sit back So NOW, I'mma Homebrew my damb Wii and get some use out of this thing and HOPEFULLY I can emulate GameCube games on it, despite it not being GC compatible. After I find my power cord and get a serious deep clean on this dust
@@azortics Well, it was like a 5 minute process of getting Homebrew Downloading games from Vimm's Lair took WAYYYY too long. Over an hour to download just 3gb! Download speeds are faster on a 3DS than they are at the site's cap Other than confusion in HB menu, I ended up figuring out that I need a USB flash drive to boot my SD from, since the SD card slot can't work. So I just decided to do it another time when I end up getting a USB - SD adapter thing Bigesst disappointment in the Wii: my GC controller adapter don't work :c

For anyone wondering, once completing the tutorial, you can use a USB drive or SD card to load up apps into your Homebrew Channel. Hope this helps!
Just a quick one, make sure to set your region to the US or UK, as in some country sets, the wii will not allow u to accept the internet wii EULA, which could cause issues with the first homebrew channel (no sd card) method

If you're having trouble connecting your wii to the Internet, you may need to allow legacy 802.11b for your router. New routers are too powerful for the wii and need to allow for a lower connection. This is just to get you looking in the right direction. Goodluck!

Which method did you use?
@@tooshort90 I didn't have any SD cards big enough, so I used my 2TB USB drive.
Although, the files ended up getting corrupted from downloading the wrong roms, so I wiped everything before I bricked it before getting someone to mod it for me.
You can also do this with your phone. I'm not joking, I did this too. So here are the steps to doing this.
1. Take the piece of the sd card (the small chip) out and place it on your phone. Insert it were you sim card is.
2. Download file manager.
3. Do what the video says and then proceed to unzipping the file in the app.
4. Once you transfer those steps to the sd, eject the chip and put it back on your SD card.
DONE! YOU DID IT, JUST GOT TO GET A USB FLASH DRIVE TO DO THE APPS.

Hey so I had the same problem this means that you need to go to your wifi routers app (like xfinity) and lower down the power to match with the Wii, as it might be too powerful for the Wii.

I had the same problem I just used a hot spot and both my wii consoles connected to wifi I still couldn't get the home brew channel at the last step I get a black screen with a bunch of words and at the bottom it says error didn't get 200 response

I want to do the dns internet connection method but I'm a little bit scared because I've never home-brewed anything before, I just want to know how easy it could be to brick the wii by doing this method, the main things I want to do on my wii is get ctgp and smash bros universe and the open shop, I've tried to read many articles but none of them state if any of those work on a PAL wii.

Fun fact: I got mine to work using a 2 GB SD card. You can use a USB after Homebrew is installed if you plug it in to the top USB port on the back of the console

Power the Wii console back on, return to the Internet connection settings and complete the Internet setup process.
Delete the Internet connection you are using and create a new Internet connection.

Omg it works for while i thought it was the console but i just put the wrong wifi password. finally my wii gets a new life
The first time I tried it I got as far as the text popping up, it took a few minutes to load then it said network configuration failed and there was an error I unplugged the console and tried again. This time I was stuck at the blue MLP screen for about 20 minutes. I unplugged the console and retried it again, this time disconnecting and reconnecting to my internet since my wii has been connected to the internet. Update: I got it to work now idk why it wasn’t before but I just turned off the console and connected to the internet and did everything else with no issues. Great tutorial I’ve been wondering about home brewing my Wii for a while.
If you have a newer router, you'll have to change 1 thing in admin settings on your router for your wii to connect to the internet.
Log into router admin panel (10.0.0.1), go to wifi settings, and change the mode to include b or g wifi. It is likely just using n currently, and older devices are incompatible.
For this, do I log into the panel on the Wii or on my internets panel.

@@allisontucker906 to install the apps you need a sd card regular size with a jump drive. He posted a video on how to install some of the apps that will get you the free games. I haven’t gotten to do that yet

Currently all I can really do on my Wii is play Mario Galaxy 2, look at the few photos loaded onto it from years ago, and make miis, so this really helped gain access to more stuff

I retried the first method 3 times (it worked the third). First time the download text gave me an error, second time my wii mote froze. It's very easy to do with no homebrewing experience :D (april '24)

The Wii that I was trying to do this on was my only Wii in my house, which is my family's, so my parents thought I was breaking it. They stopped me straight away. :(

great video! i followed all the steps in regards to the sd card method. i was able to put the needed info onto the sd card but once i put the card in the Wii i can't find the red envelope. my Wiis date is accurate so I'm not sure what to do.

Quick question: what if it doesn’t show the blue screen and instead shows the regular “Wii network services user agreement?” I did all the steps correctly but it doesn’t show up with the blue screen like yours did for the first way to homebrew

For the SD card method, when the red letter pops up on my message board, every time I click on it, it freezes my Wii and it doesn't seem to do anything unless I power off my Wii, can you help me with this?

It did that to me too.
I was able to fix it by restarting. I realized that after it fails, when you reload, the DNS Address will be slightly different and won’t work properly.
So if you just restart the tutorial then you should be good

Since I currently do not have an SD card I wanted to use the Wifi method. Everything seemed like it was going smoothly until the coding information popped up on my screen after the rainbow dash waiting screen. I waited a few minutes until the configuration seemed to fail. What could I be doing wrong, or missing? Are you sure we can download this w/o an SD card?

Blue screen doesn’t pop up after DNS
There are probably some more easier methods by now too. I remember when we had to get specific disk to be able to get into the hack menu to install the custom firmware via sideloaded save files :) those were the old days :)

@@JoshKader29 in the end it worked, just had to restart my Wii a few times and reinsert the SD card a few times

I’ve just hacked my Wii with the internet method by following carefully on how to hack it and it works. Now I will go on the process of finding a USB because my SD card for Wii games on it.
I’ll be using it to back up all my games including virtual console games to play on my PC via emulation

after entering the dns and trying to activate the exploit, the blue screen does not come up. It still shows the regular license agreement. My console is on 4.3. someone help

great tutorial. I couldn't find the letter bomb, and realized i was a day out. Restarted the console after changing the date and still nothing. I then changed the 8gb sd card to a 1gb sd card and popped up straight away.
TIWIK: For anyone whose internet doesn't work and you don't have access to your router for whatever reason, connect it to a hotspot instead. You can easily change settings.
Also, in the same internet method, it takes longer than shown in the video, so don't worry if the 1 doesnt show up, or if, after the picture, nothing happens.

My parents bought a cheap Wii from a pawn shop for 2013 Christmas, which of course they chose to spend like $47 on a used Wii bcuz they're cheap AF, they ended up buying a Non GameCube compatible Wii. So I couldn't even use my GameCube controllers or play my GameCube games in it. It just spit my GameCube games out. WHY NINTENDO?!
So I understand why it was even at the pawn shop. While the only games I had access to on it were DeBlob 2 and Wii Sports (I didn't get a nunchunk with my controller. Luckily a friend gave me his old one.. Chewed up tho. It also mostly didn't work. Wouldn't connect properly) and that was ALL I had on the Wii. Had a cool skate board toy and a Tony Hawk game, but of course my parents had no idea WTF they were doing and bought random crap that wasn't compatible, so I never did get to play the game. Ended up taking a lot of sit back
So NOW, I'mma Homebrew my damb Wii and get some use out of this thing and HOPEFULLY I can emulate GameCube games on it, despite it not being GC compatible. After I find my power cord and get a serious deep clean on this dust

Downloading games from Vimm's Lair took WAYYYY too long. Over an hour to download just 3gb! Download speeds are faster on a 3DS than they are at the site's cap
Other than confusion in HB menu, I ended up figuring out that I need a USB flash drive to boot my SD from, since the SD card slot can't work. So I just decided to do it another time when I end up getting a USB - SD adapter thing
