- First "Side-by-Side" comparison of the newly launched 2016 / 2017 Mercedes-AMG C43 Coupé and the recently revealed C63s Cabriolet. Both cars were driven only a few hours apart so we could really compare them well. Everything is recorded with the same microphone and settings therefore you should get a good idea on how they compare in reality. What immediately sticks out is that the C43 has somehow a lot louder howl and sound than the C63s which only gets as pervasive in the high revs. Something the mics don't pick up as well is the deep grunt and bass the V8 in the C63s has, it sounds a lot more powerful in real life. Still I'm very impressed was AMG did with the C43 and the Bi-Turbo V6, its really a true AMG once it comes to emotions. I think c43 gives more pleasure in everyday commute when you can rev it out a few gears once or twice. With c63 I'd just end up in jail :o

Of course you'll get a performance drop with 100 less horsepower but it's not even that much. The C43 for a nominal 4-door saloon sports car is still very brisk and delivers a meaningful blast and refined roar down the road. The C63 just sounds daft like a yobber's modded rocket bike and indeed it really does seem to suit the daft, irate and shouty 'people'

P K You reckon the C43 isn't a real AMG? I think it's borderline, a 3.0 V6 I think just about qualifies being called AMG. Merc had to do something against the M3/M4 and S4/S5
It has nothing to with displacement. One of the main selling points for an AMG is the one man one engine rule. This car doesn't compete with the M3/M4, the C63 does. This car competes against the 335/340i and S4/S5. All they have done by doing this, is cheapen the brand name of AMG.
C43 isn't bad for a V6 though. Gives me Busso vibes.

C43 sounds better than a m3/m4. The c63s sound is king, the c63 6.2 2008 is the best and always will be.

I think it’s the Giulia Quadrifoglio. And that’s coming from a “Benz fanboy”. Still think the C43 is a gorgeous car and looking forward to leasing it. 😎

C63 sounds more like a monster !
The V6, is not bad but the V8's sound, will always be more beautiful to listen than the V6. For example, the current F1 engines....
The old Turbo V6 sounded insane, you could feel the power just by hearing the car coming.

I own a C43 (with the AMG Exhaust - not on all of them). The sound is intoxicating - It made me switch from BMW.
I always assumed the C63 sounded better as I have not had them next to each other, and I always love the V8 rumble. However - a friend of mine recently picked up his new C63 and we took them out one after the other. I will tell you not to judge what you think you like from your own preconceived notion of what sounds better, and I would definitely not use the video to decide.
Let me just say I am happy with my choice. I decided on it because I wanted the 70/30 split AWD in the C43 as I am in a city with winter - but I am sure enjoying the sound.
I prefer the c43 sound too. The 63 sounds creamier and smoother but the 43 pops more!!
Yeah I also lean towards the V6 sound. It's more popper, and kind of higher pitched and sounds a bit more like a race engine. The V8 is definitely a deeper, meatier sound. Kind of like a leopard vs a big lion.
Get an E63 4.0 v8 with 4matic

Own the 2018 C43 AMG coupe...every day I turn a few heads and get a few thumbs up :-) and I drive it all year round in Canadian winters...Love the rumble each time I downshift !! Very exotic looking car with enough punch and power eagerly awaiting for the masters command LOL !
'enough punch power' that one that gave me a run two weeks ago hadn't, it ender up with c63 rear tyre on it's windscreen for a short time until it fell out of range.
C43 is my next car.

C43 sounds like a beast but the c63 sounds like the king of the jungle
Don't get me wrong a 43 sounds great when driving and in person and on video it might sound louder than the V8 but trust me even if you get into a G550 the V8 rumble is heard from down the street and in the car it sounds a bit better than a 43. Cruising along the V8 rumble is quite soothing, from my experience the 43 has some V6 drone that can get annoying if you have AC and radio off. The V8 in an E63S, oh my god there's no comparison I'm sorry but the 43 is still amazing at its price
Ich finde, dass beide gut klingen. Komplett unterschiedlich (logischerweise), interessant wird es dann mit after market AGA´s. Ich glaube aus dem V6 lässt sich noch einiges rausholen, der klingt ohne Kats/mit Rennkats und weniger Dämpfern sicher richtig gut. Und Leistungspotential nach oben sollte auch noch genug vorhanden sein bei 3 Liter Hubraum, da werden sicher bald die ersten mit deutlich über 400PS unterwegs sein und dann wird es ein Serien 63er gar nicht mehr so leicht haben..
These are both such sexy cars. I think I’d prefer the sound of the V8 but only slightly. The V6 is an amazing sounding car too 😍😍

Both engines sound very good, which surprised me slightly with th C43. Still, both great sounding cars. V8's are cool, but i'm more into 5-cylinders and 6-cylinders.

Hey can anyone confirm if the C63 coupe is wider than the C43? I oddly can't tell in pictures I'm googling but hoping someone here knows. I'm assuming the C63 coupe has wider fenders and quarters?

From the looks it doesn’t comes with amg performance exhaust and certainly in sports plus mode, my guess is the exhaust system is modified, probably the dp.
C43 sound better then a C63 ! It’s just the 63 is more powerful but if we talk about sound C43 has a much more better sound! My Perspective

Did the C43 have the stock exhaust on it or did it have the $1250.00 AMG Performance Exhaust System? I get my C43 in about 2 weeks with the AMG Performance Exhaust System. I just wanted to know how much of a difference it made with sound.

C63 has a deeper growl, c43 is higher pitched. You hear c43 more because of the higher pitch sound. But C63 is defo better

In dem Video ist das Coupé und das Cabrio zu sehen. Beide haben die breiten heckleuchten.
Definitiv so, auch ein Grund warum ich den CLA nicht mehr habe. In einem AMG gehört einfach ein V8 und nichts anderes. Das gabze Downsizing geht mir auf den Sack.
Beim neuen CLA /A aus einem 2liter 4zylinder rund 381 PS rauszuholen ist doch nicht gesund für den Motor die sind zu hoch raufgezüchtet
I have the C43 with amg exhaust and it’s one of the reasons I chose this car over a bmw or Audi, however I love the sound of the v8 c63 much more, but it’s a rear wheel drive only, and the c43 is better safer in snowy North America, also the c43 is faster in wet and snowy conditions than the c63.
at last, a c43 owner telling the truth, the 43 is easier handling in adverse conditions, and for those with lesser skills on the road (don't worry we've all been there).
you don't learn to drive to pass your driving test, you learn after that.

i tried both on the same day and all the time i was thinking that the c43 is the better, smoother everyday car, ... until i tried sport/sport+ on the c63... turns your brain off :D

only IF you own a c450/43, or fancy one, the truth is NO it doesn't 'fit better'.
The C43 and C63 are both the same 'size' if you're talking actual dimensions of the car.
C43 is the much more tasteful engine for me; refined yet aggressive roar - none of that soulless ear-smashing 'noise for the sake of it' of the C63

it's a V8's 450+hp sounding out, as it is known for.
as clarkeson said in description of the 63 "it's an axe murderer with headlights" so put that up against the 'granny carrier' that's much easier to drive for some of you.

@@netweed09 not the same size. The c43 shares the same dimensions as a c300. The only body panels the C63 shares with the c43/c300 is the roof and the trunk. Everything is widened and the front is longer to fit the V8. Proper tin can.

The C63 has wider wheel arches and more aggressive bumpers, it's just overall more aggressive. The panels are slightly different but more less are identical.

Obviously the c63 sounds more fierce but my god havnt they done well with c43 .. I'll be getting a new 2019 model next year of the c43 cabriolet as it sounds really good and be more better on fuel ! Also four wheel drive makes winter drives more fun

in all honesty i prefer the v6, it doesn't sound like someones constantly clearing phlegm out of their throat, instead it screams within its means and pops considerately. Perfection, lol and its tons cheaper.

it IS a skill thing, BUT by the time the current 20 year old gets to 40 there'll be far less v8's about in decent nick, and possibly little petrol to run them on.

Dem C43 fehlt ein bisschen der Dampf, aber der Sound ist trotzdem nicht schlecht. Allgemein ist der AMG-Sound unschlagbar. Selbst mit den Turbos bleibt noch genug Wumms übrig.

Nothing beats a v8 like that except a M4 Supercharged Armytrix Exhaust. Sounds like the c43 but much more acceleration and faster

You buy the M4 and then upgrade it to a Armytrix exhaust. There's suttin called MODIFICATION if u didn't know
