I just ordered a C43 today. The sound on the AMG Exhaust addition was the closing factor for me - the S4 did not compare. Remember - in real life it sounds different than on a video.

The c43 is obv louder, but I like that humbled tone of the S4 better. It seems as though Mercedes is def trying to cater to that snap, crackle, pop thing going on in Europe that people are into now. Personal preference I guess. Both are nice overall.

The C43’s exhaust has a higher pitch and is louder, whereas the Audi has a deep and imposing rumble that I much prefer. Also, the Audi offers a smoother ride and smoother gear shifts than the C43. I extensively drove both and definitely prefer the S over the C.

Always a fan of both, just bought the C43 cab, couldn't be happier. Both are great cars IMO. Which ever one suits your taste, you can't go wrong !
Compare C43 AMG with the S5 coupe. And also, the C43 have the sport optional exhaust, while on the S4/S5 it is still not available, for now it come only with the stock S model exhaust.
Which one felt better driving? Which car did u think was less numb and feels more connected with the car?

It's just a matter of taste, but I prefer the Audi. The sound reminds me of the 2.7 biturbo of the S4 and rs4 of the early 2000s. And I love it. The Merc 's not bad, but very different.

Hi. Those were cars provided by Mercedes-Benz themselves and they of course had them prepared for Slovanian roads and driving.
I'll take take the S4. I think the Merc sounds hollow and blowing. Also the pops from the exhaust are sharp. The Audi pops with a much fuller sound and starts to sound better and better as you rev it.

The Mercedes has a nice sound when it blips for downshifts, but I certainly hope that the noise it makes when it upshifts sounds better in person than it does on this video.
Own C43 Sedan and also raced it against a few 2018 S4 also Sedans. The Audi was always a bit slower but it sounds pretty nice. Wouldn’t trade my C43 for one tho
The C43 is certainly louder but the Audi has a nicer tone and disguises the turbo noise better.
Not really, the S4 sound muffled, like a turbocharged car, but the C43 sounds more like it's supercharged.
Zach Soulios In this segment, right now, it's XE S > 340 i > C43 > S4. The XE S is probably one of the best sounding sedan ever.
Zach Soulios Well yeah it's belt-driven, but still for any type of engine Jaguar's 3.0 V6 is surprisingly good sounding.

Plus yeah it's a V6 but it didn't sound better than the 335i imo.

Really ? When i look at reviews they always say that it sounds sweet and smooth, and well the new 340i and its B58 engine sounds even better.

Owning both of these I can tell you the AMG has a more impressive sound the first few times you hear it and definitely turns heads when you downshift in a busy area but the S4 sounds nice all of the time and is a more whole deeper sound that doesn't get too loud but is fun when you rev it up high. If I could only choose one I'd go for the S4 because they AMG crackles become quite annoying after a while but both equally get people looking at the cars!
Audi motor sounds FAR cleaner, refined, etc. The same motor used in the Porsche Panamera/Cayenne - with 15 more HP. Great motor - have a 2018 S5 Sportback with RennChip, 0-60 mid 3 second range - major pull in all gears. Great mpg too!
I'm incredibly impressed with the styling on the new B9 Avant. I didn't like the like b8 Avant, but loved the sedan variant. As opposed to completely loving the the C7 A6 Avant. But when it comes to exhaust note, I think I like the Audi slightly more, (I'm an Audi fanboy, and it's what my last two cars have been.) but I usually do love some of the Mercedes sound. But the noise the Audi makes when it shifts makes me giddy. The Mercedes sound kinda gross... Both beautiful car, though I would never want to own a red car.

A lot of people are comparing the aesthetic of the C43 which is a sport coupe, with the aesthetic of the S4 Avant which is a sporty station wagon.
The only comparison to do here is about the sound, not the design of the cars, as the opposite of the C43, on the Audi side, is the S5 Coupe.

I've never seen a person under 50 in a modern merc (specially in an amg). I see tons of them a day here in Newport Beach and they're all driven by old people. Audi is by far a much cooler car. Merc maybe when I'm retired lol. But hey, to each their own I guess.

Both sound great! While sitting in the cabin I think the Audi edges out the merc, but the stationary revving I'll give to the merc.

Sorry I should've been more specific; I was speaking of the engine noise entering the cabin, where I think the Audi edges out the Mercedes.

This S4 sounds better then the Rs5 or rs4, And I drove one the other day it is really nice to drive and fun power delivery.
As b9 s4 owner, it is a nice performance car for daily drive. However, I think c43 s stock exhausting sound is better. It will be nicer that s4 got a better exhaust. Both cars are good, and I am satisfied with my s4 :)
Both C43, S4 are great,, but since Audi service after sales in my country is a bit pain on the ass, I choose C43
I think that the C43 is more of a sports car so there for is loads but I honestly think the S4 has a better note and tone, more refinement

I like that for now at least in the U.S. there is no model above the S4. Who knows if we will get an RS4. If you get a C43, you will always know it is not the top of the line by two models (C63, C63s).

Audi sounds better in my opinion, reminds me of the VR6. The Mercedes sounds similar to the latest iteration of the M3/M4 but with someone throwing those snap fireworks on the ground after every shift.
Exactly what I got out of it too. It does sound a bit like my old vr6 (which has the sexiest sounding exhaust note EVER lol) but the s4 is not quite as burbley.

Both beautiful cars, but I'll take the Audi all day.
S4 for me. That C43 has an old Chrysler design V6 with a cheap plastic interior and outdated infotainment system. Exhaust might be louder but sounds fake.

i dont like the front end of the benz, and the interior is slightly better in the audi, but i like the engine sound better and the way the trany shifts sounds nicer

Those cracks and bangs on up shifts are terrible. Much nicer to hear it with downshifts. C43 sounds great with sports exhaust. Wonder what the new inline six will sound like. Audi sounds great as well. I wish Audi can develop a strait 6! Best sounding strait 6 of all time is the BMW M3 CSL, TVR Speed Six, and Alfa GTV6.

La Finale and Jordan Alonso I’m looking at leasing either a 2018 340/440i, a 2018 C43 AMG, or a 2018 S5 Sportback. I can’t decide which one is the better car for a younger driver? I still want to be able to get decent MPG when I’m driving gently but I want something that really speaks to me when I floor it and drive it aggressively. Thoughts?

DailyMeds I went with the 2018 S5 Sportback! There’s something that just stood out about the S5, the whole car is perfectly balanced and is “very light on it’s feet” (or wheels lol) for a car that weighs a little over 2 tons. I have to say if you get the S5, you have to spec it out and get the Magma Red seats and the S sport package but the engine sounds unreal and in my opinion it actually sounds better than the BMW and the AMG
Enjoy your car. Would have picked the same thing lol. Only thing i heard, is that its not a real drivers car like with the electronics etc. It's a beautiful car, only thing expensive here in South Africa. Have Fun!
DailyMeds thanks man! And I’m not sure who you heard the fact that it’s “not a drivers car” from, but they’re wrong. This car is very comfortable just going around doing daily stuff but it turns into a true monster when you put it in dynamic mode and use the paddles. It’s very engaging when you want it be. Many people and reviewers online are often biased or haven’t fully felt out every option in every car. I was uneasy when I was seeing people talk down about the car but it’s very fun to drive and has a great road feel in my personal opinion.

C43 sounds like an American muscle car and the s4 is more traditional exhaust sound.
