If Mercedes is going to downgrade to a 4-cylinder mild hybrid, it should either be faster or cost less than the 6-cylinder C43 it's replacing. In this case it's neither.

Not really, it's not just a 4cyl, it's got a mild hybrid and that's not cheap. Many cars with mild hybrid system will cost more that their regular gas version of the same car.

There is no transitive property of racing. Assuming the cars are closely matched, as these are, you'd have to compensate for numerous factors that change from car to car, driver to driver, and day to day.

I'm uncertain whether it's impressive that the S4 is able to keep up with or even outperform the supposedly 'improved' C43, or if it's sad that the brand new revised C43 can't beat the S4 alongside with claiming to have more horsepower. It's worth noting that Audi has been using the 3.0T engine since 2018. They are the only German manufacturer yet to update their engine to compete with the new M340 and C43. Nevertheless, it seems their 'older' engine is still doing the job quite effectively on the C43 😂.
It kept up with the v6 c43 very well aswell, so it's not a massive surprise.
The B58 engine in the M340i has been around since 2016.
@@lss3536 the B58 engine in the M340i is a newer version known as Gen 2, which started in 2020. It's more powerful and has better support compared to the older Gen 1 which is what you're referring to.
I think it's amazing that the C43's 2 litre 4 cylinder, even with help from the hybrid system, can push a nearly 2 ton car down the road that quickly.
What are you talking about? The C43 biturbo V6 has been used since the c400 back in 2015. Did you even do research before making that comment? BMW has been using the same B58 generally speaking since 2016. Also this car has 4 cylinders and is heavier than the s4
The S4 running a 12.5 is impressive! I ran a 12.7-12.8 on a 2020 S4.

The Merc is faster, but at the cost of it's soul. The S4 and M340i are where it's at this generation.
You think Mercedes make these type of cars to please RUclips racing channels. They make cars for everyday daily driving and they won't compromise the drivability and technology of their cars for a drag race for shits and giggles. They don't think "how can we make our c43 slightly quicker than our competitors", they put technology in the cars for efficiency and drivability reasons. A BMW m340 has an over boosted inline 6 cylinder made for performance. It's probably closer to 450 horsepower in real life and lighter than a c43. You have to drive both cars to know both purpose and strong points.
I am surprised that they got 12.5 sec with thewind in the face on a warm day. I was expecring closer to 12.8-.9.

@andreym95 they never show recebox or dragy info so take it with a grain of salt (i.e., +/- 0.5sec)
@m3awd598 Exactly! Why not show the dragy or racebox... I feel like they take these times out of thin air. To get the S4 to run a 12.5, you need superb weather conditions, a perfect road with a slight slope that is still valid on dragy. Obviously their conditions are not like that.
@andreym95 I bet he just estimates from the video. I've seen many examples that suggest no racebox or dragy is being used. Plus you don't see any mounted in the cars except when an owner brings their own

Why? Only you internet race car drivers care about these comparisons. People in real life buy cars based on their preferences and not these races. A lot of you people never even been in a 14.xx 1/4 mile car let alone a mid 12 sec car but yet have so much to say about cars y'all probably can't afford in the first place.
I was trying to figure out the difference between the first roll race and the second. Screen said you were in 2nd gear in the second. What were you in in the first roll race?
The Audi appeared to be in 3rd or maybe 4th in the first race. You can hear how low the RPM is from the Audi's camera. I think maybe the driver just used paddles to downshift to 2, but if you drive with constant throttle and no input, the car will automatically shift into 3rd or 4th, unless you actively bump the middle console shift lever to the right. In that case, the car will stay in manual until bumped back to the left. I *think* the Merc launched the same way in both races.

C43 is a amzing car in real life the ambient lighting at night the tech and very powerful mopped the floor with the Audi and all these bnw fans saying 340i it looks terrible or it’s got a little bit more power wooodnt even feel difference in everyday day driving and c43 destroys it in every way looks wise and interior amg just gets it right everytime
It's BMW or Audi for me from now on... Mercedes is completely off my list no matter what kind of vehicle we are talking about. The big German 3 is now the big German 2.
Actually I want to get the new Mercedes CLE Coupe as a daily driver next to my tuned BMW which is not really something for everyday use. I like the design of the new CLE.
In terms of mid level sedan/coupe performance no doubt.

The Canadian pricing for the C43 is ridiculous. Love Mercedes, but their pricing strategy lately has been outrageous. If they improved quality, sure ok, it may be justified over the competition. However, they haven't done that. There is no reason why the C43 is 18k more than an S4 and almost 10k over an M340i. Even if the engine is handmade and a true AMG engine in that sense, that is not 10k more than a B58.

There is no difference between them basically, whoever gets the jump will stay ahead, perfect launch pretty much identical the entire way, if they went for a half of a mile, c43 would have pulled away because of the extra hp

Well just to add fuel to this fire ive got a s4 3.0 V6 tdi have already beat a45 340i golf R, 335d(mapped) & tied with a m4 0-100mph drag race(on private property in the uk) all standard 700nm+350bhp torque matters more BHP is only how fast the power is delivered torque is the power.
Well for one thats a complete bs comment because the A45 if its the newer one has the more powerful version of this engine pushing about 421hp. That car the A45 gaps the M340i. The M340i gaps the S4 so please stop lying

just a tune with no mods you can get 431 bhp and over 500tq
@@x12t4qerxx voids the warranty though and these cars have blown a few turbos etc with a tune, van city auto has some serious issues as well with his tuned s4, cant even drive it because the part is going to take months to come in

Stinger will lose the dig and maybe take the roll. Stock stinger does 12.8-13 sec 1/4 mile. The 🇩🇪 has a better LC.

23 pounds heavier lol. Audi has 50+ less HP. The 2.0L turbo at 400hp is pushing its limits, while the 3.0 V6 can be flashed to a mid 11s quarter mile car with no required bolt ons. It is honestly hilarious that Mercedes would even build a 4 cylinder AMG car, it is 180 degrees out of phase of their heritage.
@johnsharp5753 wrong the M139 can touch 500hp with just a simple tune💀 the M139 can touch mid 11’s too and its 4 cylinders. S4 is not touching anything below mid 11’s same with the 4 cylinder AMG. AMG is about 1 man one engine not just the size of the engine
