I looked at all three of these (US Versions) and got the M340i LCI. TO me, the fastest and best looking. The Mercedes looks great too, but the B58 performance overshadowed the Mercedes looks. I will have to say the BMW seats with SensaTec are by far the most comfortable. I took a trip for 13 hours in my BMW, and my back wasn't even tired. Volvo seats exhaust me faster. Externally, the new one is nice. Otherwise, I am basically an Audi driver. Before the BMW, I only owned Audis, including two S4 Avant, a B5 and a B8. Alpina B3 starts around 90k euros in Germany, so if you don't go crazy with options you can have a 500 HP Alpina under 100k which is much better car than any of these 3 for almost the same money.
To be honest, the BMW looks the most interesting to me. Unfortunately the Audi only has a diesel for the S-variant and the C-class is way to expensive for what you get. The whole luxury doesn't fit the C43 that much and performance wise it's barely an upgrade to the previous one. Also the M340i has a lot of potential to tune etc. It's also the only bmw that I like for the looks, except for the 8-series and some X-models. But to me it looks so much better than the new 2-series, M3, 4-series, 7-series and fromwhat I've seen the new 5-series won't look that good as the current one either.
I personally think the high spec 2.0L Giulia is the best overall package for a sport sedan available today, but the B58 in the BMW and the Audi seats and interior are incredible.
The Giulia does look great but interior is cheap in comparison to these, also the 2.0 engine is rough and slow. They are also very unreliable. If Alfa improved quality and gave it 360hp it would be perfect, unfortunately the 280 hp version just can't compete at the same level as these 3.
The B9.5 S4 for me. It's very comfortable and looks great. The navigation is displayed on the HUD along with speed limit and lane positioning keeping me from looking away from the road. The handling is great with the sport diff making mountain roads very enjoyable. The volume knob is right by the armrest so the only thing i have to reach for is my drink.
C43 for me. Driving fun trumps anything else. The C43 AMG is basically an emotional buy. The BMW is the smart buy and the Audi is if your friends already have the BMW and Mercedes.
C43 is amazing. I don’t think the BMW is a better buy. The one you want to spend time in is the smart buy. You made a great choice. (Though admittedly I prefer the V6TT in the old one for its howling exhaust and stupidly loud pops/bangs and shift farts) but I’d happily own your car in a second.

I agree on the C43 being super cool with the v6biturbo. But the C43 AMG absolutely feels more special to drive than the M340i (having driven both). However I am brand agnostic. I’d own any of these without reservation and in fact have the last gen GLC AMG43 with V6. The driving dynamics on all of these cars is fun, but I’ve always found the AMG’s to be more hard edged when comparing M sports to Baby AMG’s. either way my next vehicle will mean test driving all of them again and I do love that beautiful B58, though I think I’ll aim for a Full M or Full AMG (63s) next time. I have my eye on an X3 M Competition right now. So we will see. I recommend driving a C43 for real…it’s surprising, even with that little engine (that is also underrated)
The gearbox is really jerky in the C43- hated it so much. The S4 is the way to go if you already have a weekend car. BMW interiors tend to age really badly, so... Great video! S4 always was and always will be the thinking man's choice! So glad my market doesn't get the diesel though
At low speed it takes some getting used to but the way it slams into gears in S+ is so freaking good. Love the feel of that car, feels so much more edgy and sporty IMHO.
As a driver of a 4 cylinder cupra formentor, my next car will be the 6 cylinder b58 in the bmw m340i, but in touring form, it is a good balance of fun, luxury and practicality, thank you Thomas for comparing all these cars, just reaffirms my decision on what I'm going to look at in a year or so time, best thing is a year old model you can save around 15,000 pounds in the uk 👍
I didn't expect it but the Audi petrol version is my favorite. Mercedes looks the best from the outside, but I am completely turned off by their interior.
Regarding engines my opinion goes semthing like: You buy premium brands also (not only) for experience that other common brands can't deliver. So in this case i expect to have bigger engine than 4cyl you can have in Octavia RS or so. Yes, merc 4 cyl has great power, but it is still just 4 cylinder, does not matter how much artificial sounds you "slap" on it. I was huge fan of previous c43 because of great sound. But now, 340i all the way (and i don't like BMW as a brand really... so it says a lot). Let's not talk about that TDI S4 please, it is almost inappropriate.
It's not easy to me to fathom why Audi don't make 4-cylinder quattro models rear-wheel drive biased, like the 6-cylinder (disappearing quickly) ones. Interior aesthetics: it's clear to me how the focus on (large) displays has become what everything interior design hinges on. As a result Audi, where the display isn't yet the king of everything, have now the best-looking interior. 19:26 🤞🏻That very truly is.
@@hardywoodaway9912 what’s wrong with Audi, funny is bmws are well known for being unreliable, yes they sound nice, and yes they are broken 50% of the time.
Clearly you had the most fun in the Mercedes, and the only real drawback to it that I saw was the fact that it's a four cylinder + hybrid which everyone makes a big deal over, but I personally don't care about. Whatever is the best driving experience. Only thing holding me back from the Merc would be the pricing, but also the reliability. I doubt it will be as reliable as the other two.
There are some things that I don’t agree with you, and one thing that I absolutely disagree with you is that AMG cars were the most different with their non AMG cars. I think that BMW M cars differ the most from the normal cars. On the Audi part, I agree. There is the gap little and the transition is smooth.
You must note that the s4 TDI depreciated heavily, even more than some 45 tfsi models.😅 You can find one used and use the money gap to buy a proper week end car (like an mx5 or gt86)
Low Profile horizontal screens make no sense for sat nav, I want to see wher I am going not way off to the left and right, a proper portrait screen is way better
People saying the M340i, but it seems to me that the one with the most worth for the common people is the C43. The engine is perfect for countries with heavy tax on engines bigger than 2.0l. It also got the best looks and interior imo.
Looking for the sportiest drive, but I was comparing the S5 Vs C43 AMG. Going to Mercedes dealer tomorrow, I like the tech. We shall see. I have had 4 BMWs so looking for something different now.
I actually think these three cars are the best looking out of the entire lineup for each manufacturer. From an exterior perspective the only sedan I could stand looks wise above these would be the S5/A5
I wish I was as confident in my opinion as many of those who responded are. I like all of these cars and would be happy with any of them except for one feature. I am 73 years old and from a generation that prefers screens to be integrated into the dashboard, not tacked on. I note that Porsche has no trouble achieving this, but all three of these cars have this Achilles heel. I held onto my 2020 BMW G20 solely because its screen did not look like a billboard erected onto the dash. The huge Mercedes iPad, I feel, will soon look silly, and the Audi's perched iPad seem like a lazy engineering choice. I am hoping that the next Audi A4/S4 design will look more like the current A3 and A6, but I fear that Audi won't invest the money in this because they are focused on the electric versions. I know I am showing my age and may just need to accept that this is the future, but it's just the way I feel. Feel free to tell me to get with the times. Thank you, Thomas, for another great comparison review; I truly respect your knowledge and instincts.
I wish Audi offered Ascari blue in the USA. It is better than the (somewhat boring) Navarra blue we get. I eliminated the Mercedes because of too much use of touch screens. The B58 in the BMW is amazing, but you can't get cooled seats and it leans heavily on the touch screens as well. I'm trying to make up my mind between the A4/S4 and the Cadillac CT5-V (non-Blackwing). The Audi is getting to be an old design, but I like the simple dials and buttons for the climate controls and its blend of sport and luxury for an everyday driver.
Excellent review 1 Mercedes - most modern and best looking as well as the best handling and, most importantly, the best improvement when you're spending way above the price of the standard sedan 2 BMW - ok looking. At least it doesn't have the massive teeth grille. Let down in styling and cheap finishes 3 Audi - looks like it is from 2010 and should have some soft hats and a tissue box on the rear parcel shelf
The BMW has way better handling than the Mercedes and is also much faster. What ´´improvement´´ are you talking about? The new 4 cylinder? Don´t be silly
The BMW 340i xDrive all day everyday even after 10 years!!! That car is golden!!! I would never pay that amount of money for a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine. I would rather buy a VW Golf R/ GTi if I wanted a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine.
Ive had all 3 cars and only someone biased would pick something other then that m340i. By far the most head turning and mean aggresive looking car. Every review ive watched has said the bmw is faster and handles better. Gives u more feedback while driving and is overall a more fun vehicle to whip around in. Mercedes has really gone down hill in terms of performance and looks. The benz looks so bloated. The audi and benz look more like a normal sedan then a sports sedan. Just by their vehicle shapes. Drivers car=BMW for this generation. Id still try an strech an m3 or m4 XDrive with an adro grille if im able too one day.
Great job on this Thomas. Between these three the best car is the pre facelift M340i. Nothing beats the B58 inline six cylinder. Pre facelift still had majority physical climate controls so it was the best of both worlds. Mercedes’ C43 is the least appealing of the three by some margin.
Thank you Thomas; another excellent video. But you can't ignore BMW ALPINA!! Either the 440 bhp petrol B3 or even the diesel 350bhp D3 would be at least a match for any of these. Yes I have one, a Touring. Please do a comparison.

I wish there was a way to get these three brands to collaborate on a special edition model that only has strengths from each of them 😅
I driven an m340 and a c43 and the handling of both is amazing but the c43 handles on another level
BMW ❤
BMW for sportiness
Audi interior
And Mercedes overall 🥇
I bought a new c43 at 19 January and the car should be the first of august at my dealer.
the ultimate driving machine in a walkaway. the c43 sounded pretty good though
Actually the new next gen 5er should be sleeker and more handsome than the current one..
Whole luxury doesnt fit in C43? What are you talking abt?
I personally think the high spec 2.0L Giulia is the best overall package for a sport sedan available today, but the B58 in the BMW and the Audi seats and interior are incredible.
I am in love to with Alfa, but 3.0 R3 in BMW is also worth of considerations. Plus bmw is available in touring spec …
The Giulia does look great but interior is cheap in comparison to these, also the 2.0 engine is rough and slow. They are also very unreliable. If Alfa improved quality and gave it 360hp it would be perfect, unfortunately the 280 hp version just can't compete at the same level as these 3.
Julia looks so outdated with very cheap interior and garbage reliability
You are joking right? It’s a Chrysler. It looks nice but thats it.
@@MitchM240 what is a Chrysler? 😀
S4 TDI and c43 with 4 cyl 😂. I lost everything for Mercedes and Audi. I would pick that bmw any day
Audi has V6.
Love your video!! I just got myself an audi S4❤❤
cheers and enjoy ! :)
Love your video and channel, this is my first time watching your channel and was looking between the blw and the Mercedes
Most welcome!
The way that 3 series looks....wow
Now BMW is getting really good, it’s now getting popular than Mercedes-Benz
BMW is only for speed
Lookwise aweful
With the introduction of EVs which go faster than BMWs.!
BMW will have tough time in the future
@@GirishAdhi1985 Keep crying kid lol! BMW number 1 seller in luxury cars, and deemed the most reliable in recent years!😂🤡

That special appearance on 2:29 was the most aesthetic one. He was indeed a lovely 🐕
1. BMW inline 6👌
2. Audi but with v6 3tfsi
3.mercedes
PS - mercedes - very expensive, small engine, week sound......bleah.........i have audi rs3 2.5 400 hp.....that is the engine that i look for or inline 6 from bmw....just order the new m2 with 450 hp
I love your videos. Thanks for the great work.
Great comparison 🎉
1. M340i
2. Audi S4 (diesel but at least 6cyl)
3. C43 (absolutely boring, C43 used to be nice with that 6cyl/sound)
c43 in us version is definitely way louder than EU version.
@@berryhappy2625 so? It‘s still a 4cylinder engine. But I guess some people still believe louder = better, especially when talking about a 4cylinder
Wonderful comparative review!
I LOVE ZEE GERMAN ACCENTS .. nice video and review on a serious note I love all the cars . Mercedes is my choice.
hehe keep tuning in =)
I didn't expect it but the Audi petrol version is my favorite. Mercedes looks the best from the outside, but I am completely turned off by their interior.
C43 Is my favourite 😊
the best three on the planet. the best automotive industry of all time
Audi S4. I’ve had a few BMW 3 series cars and always got tired of them. The S4 is so easy to live with.
C43 by far looks and better and comes with more. Bmw i feel needs to step it up, and im not talking bigger grill 😂😂
Holy hell those prices are crazy!
BMW with or without ur review. End of discussion
You cant go wrong with any of them. Good review as allways.
yes you can. c43 and s4 are the inferior cars when we talk about engines
@@axcn4733 meh
The c43 has more power and the s4 is more economical
@@Fastwalker27 yeah, you are lost :)))
@@Fastwalker27 but the c43 isn't any faster that 4 pot is not making 400bhp no way if it was running 408bhp it would have a faster 0 to 60
Was that your dog, Thomas? Very handsome dog he is. Wonder if he can do car reviews too? Hope he will make more guest appearances.
hehe no, used to have a dog but that's sadly long ago.
ill get the M340i LCI next year. overall the best car in looks, engine, performance.
BMW all day long and the B58 is a peach of an engine!
Regarding engines my opinion goes semthing like:
You buy premium brands also (not only) for experience that other common brands can't deliver.
Am I the only one that prefers actual digital speedometer/tachometer? To me a nice instrument cluster is like a nice watch. Just classy.
19:26 🤞🏻That very truly is.
because the engine is in the worst position possible in an audi…
@@hardywoodaway9912 what’s wrong with Audi, funny is bmws are well known for being unreliable, yes they sound nice, and yes they are broken 50% of the time.
Clearly you had the most fun in the Mercedes, and the only real drawback to it that I saw was the fact that it's a four cylinder + hybrid which everyone makes a big deal over, but I personally don't care about. Whatever is the best driving experience. Only thing holding me back from the Merc would be the pricing, but also the reliability. I doubt it will be as reliable as the other two.
good thoughts!
There are some things that I don’t agree with you, and one thing that I absolutely disagree with you is that AMG cars were the most different with their non AMG cars. I think that BMW M cars differ the most from the normal cars. On the Audi part, I agree. There is the gap little and the transition is smooth.
You must note that the s4 TDI depreciated heavily, even more than some 45 tfsi models.😅
You can find one used and use the money gap to buy a proper week end car (like an mx5 or gt86)
The dog was the best of them
Indeed, I liked the video indeed
💪
Indeed
Low Profile horizontal screens make no sense for sat nav, I want to see wher I am going not way off to the left and right, a proper portrait screen is way better
People saying the M340i, but it seems to me that the one with the most worth for the common people is the C43. The engine is perfect for countries with heavy tax on engines bigger than 2.0l. It also got the best looks and interior imo.
Very true and that engine is a beast. A marvel of enginerding for sure
Thomas, this was a fantastic review. My choice lies between BMW and Audi, with more bias to BMW.
From an exterior perspective the only sedan I could stand looks wise above these would be the S5/A5
Wouldn’t it be more fair to compare with Audis next gen model which will be coming soon, rather than the older model shown
Bimmer in-line 6 is always a hit. Steering is still the issue.
Thanks Rick!
I am 32 years old and totally agree with you.
I am 20 and fully support your opinion
I wish Audi offered Ascari blue in the USA. It is better than the (somewhat boring) Navarra blue we get. I eliminated the Mercedes because of too much use of touch screens. The B58 in the BMW is amazing, but you can't get cooled seats and it leans heavily on the touch screens as well. I'm trying to make up my mind between the A4/S4 and the Cadillac CT5-V (non-Blackwing). The Audi is getting to be an old design, but I like the simple dials and buttons for the climate controls and its blend of sport and luxury for an everyday driver.
Another informative video, thanks!
Next comparisons must be estate cars, and maybe also [everyone's favourite] compact cross-over/SUV/SAC vehicles :-)
Thanks 🙏
I agree, what with 2 kids and a dog it would good to see those comparisons, make it so Thomas!
In Australia, BMW every day of the week! Merc and Audi have very poor after-sales reputations compared to BMW. I also prefer its looks too.
I love watching John Cadogan over here in the UK who describes Mercedes as the three pronged suppository .
@@robertreid9079 He is very informative! I quite enjoy his content too!
The one time being under 6ft actually isn’t a bad thing 😂
Audi still the looker with its classic lines.
Audi 🤢🤮🤮
RS3 is best!😀
M340i all day easy choice
Excellent review
1 Mercedes - most modern and best looking as well as the best handling and, most importantly, the best improvement when you're spending way above the price of the standard sedan
2 BMW - ok looking. At least it doesn't have the massive teeth grille. Let down in styling and cheap finishes
3 Audi - looks like it is from 2010 and should have some soft hats and a tissue box on the rear parcel shelf
the bmw has better handling and driving dynamics than audi no doubt
BMW interns quality is better than Mercedes - Mercedes has more bling bling looks - Audi is just an old people car 😜😂
@@elvissmeu6758 Audi for old people? Are yoi nuts? Hahahah I have never seen old fellow in Audi. 😂 From statisticks, Audi has youngest clients.
The BMW has way better handling than the Mercedes and is also much faster. What ´´improvement´´ are you talking about? The new 4 cylinder? Don´t be silly
It seems like most of the car magazines have the M340 no.1 and the AMG last of these 3 so I guess it`s mostly about personal choises
Wonderful
The BMW 340i xDrive all day everyday even after 10 years!!! That car is golden!!!
I would never pay that amount of money for a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine.
I would rather buy a VW Golf R/ GTi if I wanted a turbocharged 4 cylinder engine.
Very thoughtful to include the benzin S4 sound. Much appreciated for the fairness
I have order an D3S i took delivery this summer, but i wonder if the new infosysteme is good because on this video it look complicate to use
