there is absolutely no reason to use the paddles to upshift when drag racing. You are just slowing the car down. Let the computer to upshift automatically, it will be faster than the driver doing it and you won't have to worry about missed shifts either.
Only used paddles in that first run.

I´am a Audi guy, but damn I love what BMW is doing with the interior. You can clearly see their design language from 20+ years ago. Its modern, but still classic. I love that. On Audi and Merc, like there is no design language, every generation has different interior. Like they don´t have own identity.
Bmw is just years behind buddy. Interior wise bmw mever stood a chance. Compare the ones from 3/5/8 series and see what i mean. Its not bad but just not like a s class. Also the same from low to top end models.
It seems BMW fans like this, but to me, the interior looks like from the 90s. I have test driven a M2 Competition yesterday and while the car handles well, I probably still will order a CLA 45 or C43 Coupe just because the interior and infotainment system feels so outdated on the BMW. BMW can do it different, but then you need to buy an M5 - which is like double the price. So, Mercedes really offers all the latest technology in their entry level cars, whereas BMW doesn't do it. Oh and I have driven an Audi RS3 this week as well, but to be honest, while I liked it, it just didn't feel right for me for some reason. I also thought the sound is too aggressive in Dynamic mode. But I liked the interior (except for the small screen).

@@andrewwilson6998 Heck even the M135i got an updated interior that looks modern. The M2 Competition didn't even had aluminium brushed pedals, but the regular cheap plastic ones. Can't afford an M5. So, either I go with high performance and cheap interior, or modern interior and cheap performance (M135i). BMW doesn't offer anything right now that suits me. Sadly. Because the CLA 45 is quite expensive.
You are lucky that you can afford the bigger cars from BMW.
If the BMW M340i is this powerful, I can clearly imagine how the new upcoming BMW M3 competition is gonna be.. BMW has really done it this time!

The C43 Sedan weighs a bit less than the C43 Coupe. When I drove both (Sedan and Coupe of C43) the sedan felt a little better, and that's the one I went with.
why does he say this is not a real AMG, I've had my BMW 3 series for about 16yrs, thinking of buying a mercedes next if no other reason just to try something different.
@@jaeofelony5531 some people consider it not a real AMG because it doesn’t have the famous hand built engines from Affalterbach. To me, power is power, I don’t care where it’s from as long as it performs and is reliable. The C43 sedan is still been good to me and it’s fast enough for me to enjoy without being over the top. I would just test drive a few different cars in your price range and decide what feels best to you.
@@GadgetryTech thanks for the info. Last question, do you have any issues since it’s a V6 and not inline? I hate that I have to go a series up just to get that in-line 6 cylinder. That E53 is nice but the 100K price tag is awfully steep. I bought my BMW in 2005 for 43K and it has almost 200K miles on it 17 yrs later.
@@jaeofelony5531 I’ve had my C43 for 3 years now but it still has just under 12k miles so I can’t speak from personal experience. I can say that overall this particular V6 is very reliable based on countless posts of higher mileage C43s and another cars that use this engine, even with mods. This engine is used on their GLC43 as well, among some other models and it’s been reliable there too.
@@GadgetryTech okay cool. I know what I’m getting with BMW, I just feel like Mercedes can be cheap sometimes (interior) a little over priced, but then again they are a powerhouse. Working for a company that has an F1 team you soon realize why they are so coveted. Thanks for the info man, I’ll definitely take that into consideration. I really like this c43 model it looks like my car almost (size wise).
finally someone really agree and praise the seat of the S5. I’m not the only one. Them seats are crazy beautiful for the segment
I chose the RS3 two years ago, but if I had to choose between these two, it would be the M340.

I personally love the timeless design inside. It is great quality though.
Just got my 2021 M340i Mineral White Shadowline Version, with carbon spoiler and mirrors. Blacked out 19" 791M wheels, M-Performance Exhaust, and black front splitter. Tinted the windows today. Wicked fast & fun.(owned 8 days) Great video!!
C43 for me. Test drove Audi S5, BMW 340i and C43 coupe, all 2020 model. C43 is better in my opinion.
I like that he does what people came here for instead of just giving out numbers. Also like the fact that it's not 20 mins long.

I drove both, and on tight curving roads. Also drove the M4 and C63s. What this review misses is the 4matic system of the C43. Drive these at the crest in LA and you'll quickly notice how the 4matic allows the C43 to scramble out of corners while still enjoying a great rear-wheel bias. Everything in the C43 feels more premium and modern. And DAMN, the C43 is just beautiful...I bought the Cabriolet version, did a 70 HP ECU tune to 455 HP and it's a wonderful mountain driver. I can't get past the vanilla looks of the BMW. It's just not fun to look at and that matters to me. Previous M5 driver here, so no brand bias. Love STI's, Porsche, BMW, Evo and pretty much anything that's fun to drive.
I agree with you C43 looks better and if feels more premium as well, I have 2016 340i that I love. How do you like it so far, any problems with it? How does it handle any understeer?
@@MrPuciek I think in absolute terms,, BMW has a slight edge overall in handling at the limits but that's actually a design choice by Mercedes and some drivers may find the AMG the more predictable driver. I looked at BMW as they are fine cars, but I couldn't get past the badly dated design elements, especially of the interior. My C43 Cabriolet is tuned to 475 HP (approximately) and the overall experience is well above that of BMW. As a car enthusiast (and not a professional driver), it was a fairly easy choice to go with AMG. As for understeer, nothing that troubles me and no issues thus far. The only downside is that the car is so competent that it can almost be boring. ;-)

BMW is obviusly Better even in looks, nothing vanilla, the front of the BMW is just beautiful, and he even says something that is in every comparison video, BMW materials feel more premium than Mercedes and Audi.

@@shubhammaini9897 It was a 2020 tuned to 475 HP, upgraded suspension. I went for better tires, but I don't recall what I bought. I have since traded up to an EV, which is where the speed is these days.

I know it’s not quite the same but I had a similar choice between the M140i and the A45AMG a year ago and the Merc sounded fantastic but I ultimately chose the M140i because it literally was and still is an absolute blast to drive every single day.
the funniest and truest line you said was, "comfort mode feels like a drunk version of sport mode." I owned an F82 M4 and let me tell you that thing was WILD to drive. Whenever you put that thing in sport plus, it was as if the car was BEGGING to be floored. It wanted to be gripped and driven like it was meant to. I can't put it into words. Funnest car I ever owned. god that thing was fast.
Great review, I would pick the Bmw purely because of the infotainment system alone. Bottom line, regardless which one you go for, you can't go wrong. Keep up the good work!👍🏻

Would love to see the M340i take on it's stronger older brother, the F80 M3. I bet the M340 holds its own and the comparison could be closer than most people might think.
That'd be interesting to do. Would be a pretty close race up to maybe 100, but after that, the M3 is pulling away hard. Not sure if you watched the solo review but the M340i runs our 60-130 in 13.45 seconds and the M2 Competition (which is almost as fast as an F80 M3 in terms of straight line performance) runs it in just under 12 seconds. That's at least 6-7 cars by 130.

I like how the BMW maintained that shifter with the +/-, unlike MB you have to go through things like hold the paddle shifter or press the M button to access the manual gear. I see you guys getting a little airborne there (9:36), awesome.
Yes it was definitely nice to have considering the Benz had the column stalk style which took some getting used to. The one thing I forgot to mention in the video is that you can leave the manual mode off and select your gear via the paddles for a roll race and the car will shift automatically at the optimal point, which is what I did in the 2nd run of the roll race. It's nice because a lot of performance cars don't give you the option to hold the gear. The holds the gear until redline. No need to blip the throttle for a roll race and hope that it'll stay in that gear until you mash the throttle.

To me performance is a good factor but on top of that the styling is the main factor when I buy a car. Copped a '19 amg coupe because I already have an e90 and the amg looks so much more boss than the beamer
I drove S4, C43, and M340xi. I prefer BMW. That engine/transmission combo is unmatched, others feel sluggish in comparison.
