So excited to try this. Question, can I or should I rack the mixture directly into another fermenting bottle instead of a bucket or other container, that way I don't have to transfer it back to the original fermenting bottle?
I just got this very winemaking kit as a gift. The juice keeps bubbling up into the air-gap. Should I just leave it or should I rinse it out each time it happens?
Not to worry, the fermentation can be very active at first causing some foam into the airlock, once it dies down you can remove, rinse and refill the airlock with clean water. Feel free to do this as needed if it is messy, it won't hurt anything. Also, this could be a sign of temperatures a bit too high, try a slightly cooler spot as it should slow down the fermentation a bit as well. Cheers
I just started a batch last night and I'm getting the same thing. My temp is probably a bit high because it's Nevada and it's summer and my a/c isn't great haha
@@KartoffelGeist You have a few options for temp control, personally, I have the same issue when fermenting a small batch at home so I put my carboy in a small cooler and swap out a small ice pack once every 12 hours, this keeps the fermentation temp 5-10 degrees colder than the ambient temperature. Since you are in a low-humidity environment you can also build a "swamp cooler", this is as simple as putting the carboy in a pot or pan that can hold water, put the carboy in the water so the bottom is submerged, put an old shirt or thin towel over the carboy and setting up a fan to blow on it. The wet shirt will evaporate the water from the fan and cool down the carboy, this can decrease the temperature by about 20 degrees.
Heyy I bought this kit recently. After using the sanitizer I saw some residue as I was adding the honey and water. I was wondering if this could ruin my batch or cause a risk to me? I couldn't find what the sanitizer was made from and wasn't sure what to do. I figured since it was no rinse it would be fine but wanted to ask the man himself
That is perfectly fine, as long as all of the liquid sanitizer was removed before proceeding your batch is good to go. There will always be a small bit of sanitizer residue left over but it will not affect your mead, cheers!
Degassing is done in this process to ensure that when nutrients are added they do not create CO2 nucleation and overflow the fermenter. It also helps with removing CO2, creating a healthier environment for the yeast for a good fermentation.
In a pinch, you can use a clean and sanitized rubber glove with a rubber band around the neck of the carboy. Make sure to poke a hole in one of the fingers!
@@Craftabrew Ohhh wonderful! You’ll have to excuse my ignorance as many of these company’s have tricked me. I really enjoy watching these home brew kit videos, and the only criticism I have would be the selection of background music. I’m sure there is some royalty free jazz piano or classical piano you could place in the background the avoid the “basic” infomercial type feel. No hate just critique, love the content, hope to purchase some soon.
I just found out about your kit and started my first batch!
Please make a video on backsweetening!
How long could I (and how long would you recommend) age this wine for?
Fruit wines usually reach their peak at two years. Cheers!
Would love to see a recipe using fresh grapes!
I couldn’t get all the benzonite to dissolve. Will this ruin my batch?

Yeah no need to use the same carboy he did it probably cause he didn't have a second carboy
@@Jim.Frantzisson okay, good to know. Thanks 👍
Are yeast nutrients and yeast energizer replaceable?

So for the wine you don't have to degass it like mead?

Airlock broke trying to push it in. What can I do ??
