I have been making wine at home for over 15 years and every now and then I view a video to see if I can improve my process. This is the best and most informative video I have seen. I use the same eclipse Winexpert starter kits and almost the same equipment. The video was very well done with quality performance. Great Job
I love this video, so thoroughly presented and informative. I’m a beer home brewer and really appreciate the step by step detailed instructions. Thanks
I ordered my Kit last night 08/27/2021. Thanks for your video. I watched it and immeadely I ordered my KIT. I am expecting by Sept 8/2021. I am excited.
@@teresageorge7767 Teresa, I ordered it from Amazon. I have not made my Wine yet because I haven't been too well. I will make it this November, hopefully.
Very well, but that batch was previously degassed in that video... Also moving to a carboy (secondary fermenter) when the wine has reached only 1010 in gravity, might cause that the wine never gets to the desired 0,996 FG. I would most definitely wait for the grape juice to reach the expected final gravity before doing anything else. Anyway, Tim explains the whole proccess very well, and I recommend this wine-kit. I brewed myself and got a very very decent wine.
Tim and I both like to play it a bit dangerous by using a corded drill for degassing rather than a cordless one. :) I just made an RJS Cab Sauv kit, and it's pretty much done the same way. I'm sipping some wine from one of their Pinot Grigio kits and even after 2 weeks in the bottle, it's mellowing nicely with a promising amount of body. I'm absolutely sold on making wine at home.
I use star San for cleaning. It’s so easy. I usually wash the kitchen sink with soap and water. Rinse very well and then fill the sink with water and star San. The sink is big enough to fit anything that needs sanitizing
Thank you very much for the presentation. I'm new to wine making and needed this video to demonstrate all the steps involved. Very well presented and very clear. 👍
5/5/2022! The ordered Box is doing well! Today I started a white grape Champagne. Last year my first Cranberry Champagne. I used Champagne special yeast, "O" It was so good.
Does the wine age and improve in the bottle or can the wine be stored in oak casket for a few months then bottled? Can I purchase refills of all the consumables including juice?...can you add a link to your store? If I purchase juice from a different vendor would follow the same instructions? Great video...inspired and ready to go!
Why rack at all until it's dry? What is the point of being so close to a fully fermented wine, racking it into a carboy and having brought MAYBE enough of the colony along with it to finish? Why not just let it ferment dry in primary then rack it off the leese into secondary to start clearing?
Nice video ! I got some hose clips to help keep the hose under control, also when racking having a tube holder will help to keep you from stirring the fines 👍
You said to follow the directions that came with my wine kit. You also said it took you roughly 4 weeks to make the wine. How many times will I have to rack my wine before bottling? This kit says red wines are aged 12_18 months. Is this wine different from others? I'd like to enjoy it after a month if ya know what I mean.
Thank you! Excellent video from one who knows nothing about making wines 🍷 but would like to. Question. Where do I purchase all the items you used in this video? Is there a big kit for these items to help cut down on expense? Help me to know where to begin!
If wine is made and stored properly, it can be stored unopened for about 20 years. You will need to check for cork degradation every few years, but otherwise it will not spoil if stored unopened.
Don’t need to add sugar, the pre-package juice already had sugar added. The red cap stays on the help reduce the possibility for flying bugs to get into the airlock.
The earliest remnants of wine were discovered in the site of Hajji Firuz Tepe, in the northern Zagros Mountains of Iran. The wine dated back to the Neolithic period (8500-4000 B.C.). Carbon dating confirmed the wine was from sometime between 5400-5000 B.C
Hey Tim, I just discovered this awesome video you did quite a few years ago. I was wondering, since then, is their a better kit for wine making now? Thanks Tim!!
Very good video. I have question regarding the carboy, is it necessary that it is a carboy for the second fermentation, or can i use a normal fermentation bucket? I have loads of beer brewing equipment, but no carboy.
Is it possible to use the fining agent without using the Sulfates. I want to make Vinegar, and the Sulfates make this a hard thing to do. I do however want clear liquids for my vinegars.
Yeah. But you would be throwing off the end flavor a little. Yeast stop converting sugar into alcohol at their tolerance. So depending on the tolerance of the yeast, you could end up with very sweet wine. Try mead.
THAT was a great video... Thank you. I am looking forward to ordering a Cabernet Sauvignon kit... I do have a few questions. Do you recommend filtering the wine before bottling? I have a catalyst fermenter (has the y-gate at the bottom to remove sediments without racking and re-racking). Also has a bottling attachment. Would that work here? thank you!
You do not need to filter because you will get clarifying agents that work extremely well with almost every kit you could buy, Heres what I would recommend, Start with a good kit, something around the $100-120 range because you will get a product that you will appreciate a lot more than a $50 kit. The Catalyst fermenter would work fine for wine, but you will still want to rack it into a carboy for secondary or aging to keep oxygen at bay,and rack it every couple months off the sediment that it may continue to drop and add new sulfites to it because you need to to protect it against spoilage organisms and oxygen. Age does matter give it 4-6 months, and you will get a fantastic wine, wait a year and it will probably blow your mind. Patience is key in winemaking.
Your catalyst fermenter will work perfectly. Master Vintner kits don't require filtering, but some people like the effect filtering has on a wine, me included, so I filter about half of my wines. The other half I leave for so long before bottling, they don't require filtration to be star-bright in the glass.
Great presentation. Very informative. Going to make my first batch this weekend. Is there a waiting period once you bottle the wine before drinking it?
This is good information . I ordered Lodi Ranch 11 cabernet sauvignon California red wine kit from Winexpert for $179, after I got it and from their label information, it added 10 wt% sugar in this juice , but California state prohibits chaptalization (no sugar added). I will not buy any from this company.
No. But u have to understand that this is a very American chemical way to make wine. So if u make wine the natural way (with actual grapes) u definitely don't want to do that.
The instructions for winexpert kits says to use a minimum of 7.9 gallon primary fermentor, this kit comes with a 6.5. Does this make a difference or doesn't matter?
Thank god, a video by an actual wine shop.... by an actual vitner! I saw 3 videos before this of some Califonia hippies, and some Wisconsin stay at home, prepper. All of which used absolutley no practiced methodology of modern wine making! They lost me at braed yeast, no use of a hydrometer or air lock, and bottled in what ever was available. Like, mason jars to old liqour bottles! I died a little, each time I watched these train wrecks! Kit or not, you took the proper steps! Maybe I missed it? But did you go over recording the final sugar amount, and calculating the wines ABV?
I can't make home wine cheaper ~ Example BAREFOOT wine Pink Moscato! for 6 bucks a bottle. Its a little dry tasting. You need to pour it into a big pitcher add a little bit of sugar in it. To your taste of sweetness, It will foam up> let it settle down and pour it back into the bottle. ITS A BIG BOTTLE ~ wow it don't give the size. i would say a liter or 2 size Plus you get delicious tasting wine, at 9% volume, and a nice big bottle and a cork
When I go to fancy restaurant and I see the head chef 👨🍳 is fluffy I know my food will taste amazing... same with this guy he has wine or beer 🍺 belly for sure this wine will be out of this world 🌎 😜!!

How many years we can keep the wine, if we make it at this way??
If wine is made and stored properly, it can be stored unopened for about 20 years. You will need to check for cork degradation every few years, but otherwise it will not spoil if stored unopened.
My instructions tell me to open the lid and stir everyday. Is it possible my instructions are wrong? Because nothing is fermenting.
Great presentation. I notice you didn’t add sugar? Thank you Maestro!!
I notice you left the red cap on aerator. Is this art of the process? Thanks!
Don’t need to add sugar, the pre-package juice already had sugar added. The red cap stays on the help reduce the possibility for flying bugs to get into the airlock.
Is there anywhere currently selling this kit? Every online retailer I have seen is sold out.
Great instruction!
Is there a link to the kits?
Does it hurt to drink whats left in the sediment bottle?
Wood and volcanic clay… I wouldn’t do it. Or do you mean after secondary? That’s mostly yeast that has fallen out of solution from the fining.
Awesome video 👍

Now that's aged wine
What is preferred way to cork dry or wet?
I have a kit where the instructions say to stir the juice thoroughly every day, won't that affect the fermentation process?
No, you are degassing during the primary fermentation. This can help the yeast work so they aren’t swimming in there own farts.
Great video, dude:)
Thanks ,this is good. how can one order the equipment and other materials?
Thanks very much Tim

It doesn’t matter what you use for secondary as long as your bucket is free of scratches. Scratches = places bad bacteria can hide.
how to directly make wine in the tetra pack 1 litre juice and bottle it after is done

Where can i get that kit? í need it shipped out in México
Is it possible to use the fining agent without using the Sulfates. I want to make Vinegar, and the Sulfates make this a hard thing to do. I do however want clear liquids for my vinegars.
Yes, you just have to make sure the wine goes complete dry so the yeast stop working. Try cold crashing if you have the fridge space.
Could I add sugar to get an original hydrometer reading of say 1125 and get a slightly higher ABV?
Yeah. But you would be throwing off the end flavor a little. Yeast stop converting sugar into alcohol at their tolerance. So depending on the tolerance of the yeast, you could end up with very sweet wine. Try mead.
What if our gravity reading is 1.020 after six days? Should we wait another day or two?

Yeah just wait for the yeast to do their job
