Mead is the original fermented beverage, predating wine or beer. Our NEW Mead Making Kit helps you craft your own "honey wine" in just 4 weeks. Ready to get buzzed? Brewing mead is as simple as combining honey, water & yeast. Drink it out of a goblet or a horn to...
Each batch of homemade mead is unique, reflecting the type of honey used, whether it’s orange blossom, tupelo or wildflower. Each Mead Making Kit makes 1 gallon or 10 bottles.
I bought a craftabrew kit back when I wanted to try mead making for the first time. My experience was fantastic. My kit came with a broken carboy (no doubt the fault of the mailman.) I asked craftabrew for just a new carboy and they sent me a whole second kit. The instructions were perfectly clear, even though I knew nothing about brewing back then, and through the entire process there was never a single hiccup. I get to say that the first mead I ever brewed came out damn near perfect, and it started what is a legitimate hobby for me now. Craftabrew is a great option for someone learning to brew.
How long have you worked for craft a brew?
@@blazed9586 ever hear of the dead internet theory?
@@ElessarEstelik it's been a month, but what is the dead internet theory? now i'm curious
I do completely agree with what you’ve said about it. Everything came out perfectly. The only thing I would say. Is what’re the measurements of the nutrient packets and yeast packet. Buying things on my own now, and not too sure what measurements we all used for the craft a brew kit.
@@elitheking8886 that was my question process. I'm about to buy a kit and start the hobby fresh after watching and reading a ton, and I wish the size measurements were stated and not just "Add this packet". Seems like a way to isolate you to only buying the refill kits.
Someone give this man a raise because this made me want to buy your kit
I know right. I'm on their website now looking at the kits. I've brewed beer and distilled alcohol, but haven't tried mead yet ..
I hope Craftabrew makes more videos with this person, he does a fantastic job. I learned so much from watching it.
"Doin' the most brewing" is his youtube channel.
I learned how to read instructions!
Now I know why my first mead did not work. All the videos I had seen about Mead said nothing about staggered nutrient additions or degassing. Thanks for this great video, learned a lot for my next attempt.
its not necessary, yours was probaby just infected/not sanitized enough. I have never added nutrients - always got nice mead out of it. stop wasting money on that
After watching this video im definitely gonna start making mead! i was thinking about it for a while but this video really showed me how easy it is to get started. Looking forward to doing this with my friends!
I love how clearly you're explaining this ❤
Just tasted the result. Tastes great! Super fun and a great experience. The glass rod was broken in the packaging and they shipped me a new one right away free of charge. Would definitely recommend.
If anyone knows how to make mead, it's this man right here.
I recommended this to a friend who wants to make their first mead because I trust the man making it.
The best video ever. Thank you. I had no questions AFTER it ended. Thank you mate.
You’re the only one that I can follow easily. No math involved. Thank you.
Got my kit a few weeks ago, started it yesterday and just did my day 2 nutrient stagger. I am so excited to see how it comes out! Thank you for such a great video
How was it
@@Jadden_Rogers_comedy it came out great! Currently on my second and third brews now. Doing another traditional mead and then I also am doing a summer cyser courtesy of his RUclips channel lol
I added blueberries and lemon peels in and it came out amazing after 30 days! My wife and i had the first bottle but we are letting the rest age more. This is the first of many to come!
Are you aging it in the bottles or back in the gallon jug?
Can you describe your process a bit more? I just ordered the kit and I would like to add some fruit for my first ever batch of mead
@@dklee1313 I haven't personally done it yet, but I plan on adding fruits to the secondary fermentation of my first batch and read some useful stuff. If you add fruit to the primary fermentation, most of the original fruit flavor is stripped, you are left with the fermented flavor of the fruit so if you like that specific fermented fruit taste go for it. Adding it in secondary makes the original's fruit flavor stay as it isn't going through the rigorous stage of primary fermentation, preserving the original fruity taste. You can add fruit in both first and secondary fermentation if you want a bolder fruity flavor. Then for sanitation I read to add Campden tablets to the mixture of honey, water and fruit then wait 24 hours to add your yeast for primary, as for secondary it seems debatable as it might not be necessary since the high alcoholic content and CO2 rich environment prevent most stuff from growing, some do say to sanitize in another container with water and Campden tablets just to be safe. Hope that helps and happy brewing.
Did you have to sanatize the fruit first or did you just rinse with tap water and throw it in
My wife has beehives, we got a big yield of our own honey this year. I bought a kit to try, have always wanted to try it
That's awesome, super local mead! Let us know how it turns out!
So how'd it turn out?
@@bradleywhais7779 Fermentation stopped sooner than expected so I restarted it by adding a little more honey and some additional yeast and nutrient, racked it out to a secondary after 30 days and it was pretty strong so we're just letting it mellow. I think the kit was a great starter kit And it really inspired my interest in this process as a hobby in general, so much so I have now made 3 additional gallons
Really enjoyed watching this video! You made crafting mead look simple and fun! Look forward to creating my own batch in the future!
I’m expecting mine to be delivered today. I’m excited! I needed something like this in my life, and the possibilities seem limited only by one’s imagination!
I just received my Craft a Brew Mead making kit and am excited to try my first ever brew! I bought this kit because of the simplicity shown in this video and I'll let y'all know how it turns out! Thanks for a great video that inspires.
how did it go
And then?
Best video tutorial I've found thusfar. Thanks for a thorough presentation
I am getting my kit in the mail tomorrow! I just picked up my honey today from a local harvester. So excited!
How did it go?
How did it go
How did it go?
Just got your mead kit today and started immediately. Decided I was gonna use a mixture of berries in both the primary and secondary for it. Excited to see how it turns out
Waiting for an update
Update?
Update?
Hey bro, how'd it turn out?!
This man has made such good mead he is drinking it non-stop and has no time to update, inspiring stuff, my first batch has only been in primary for a week I can't wait for it to finish.
Very indepth and appreciate the cleanliness!
I’ve been brewing wine for 8 years and recently moved and lost everything but 3 5 gallon carboys.
I use to just make wine and never did Mead before. I just bought your kit and started my must (must start with the must!) your added video helps a lot! Thank you!
P.s. being slightly experienced, I added hibiscus, lavender and juniper
One thing on your page… explain the difference between temperature zones (AZ vs Wisconsin) and tap water vs distilled vs spring? If I didn’t see that video then I apologize for not seeing it yet
I just received this kit for my birthday, a gift from my eldest son. I'm looking forward to giving this a go! Great video!
Mine is due to show up today, I’m excited and looking forward to enjoying the fruits of my labor. I want my family and friends to discover this wonderful beverage.
I got my first mead making kit from Craft A Brew. I can’t wait to get it going and this video helped me out a lot. Thank you guys and look forward to trying my first Mead and one that I have made myself.
Cheers!
how did it go?
I know you from somewhere. I like the idea of introducing new browsers to the hobby of home brewing. It's made easy to follow instructions. Great idea!
Just ordered this kit can’t wait to try making some
Thanks for helping people make your mead with little understanding of what should be known
great video and a nice trick with the syphon.
You surely will be "doin the most" with CraftaBrew's mead making kit.
I think it's a pun
Will be making my first batch soon. I’m excited to come back to this video for reference.
I tried brewing a strawberry melomel and faced a bit of an explosive reaction probably because the fruit solids prevented gasses from escaping or at least I think that's what happened. I post this as a warning to just keep an eye out on your cardboy when brewing with fruit solids and recommend a bucket for things like melomel. I do love craft a brew since they did allow me to open my eyes to the wonders of home brewing and I send my full thanks. 10/10 would buy your product again
Yeah, when you've got fruit in the vessel you'll need to punch that cap down daily to prevent these sort of issues. Also to help prevent mold from forming.
@@oliveprocessor3068 thanks for the advice I'm retrying the melomel but with peach this time and I'm brewing in a bucket I bought from home brew ohio
I usually swirl my mead for the first week or so. Seems to help mitigate most issues. But I did have a chocolate mead that got pretty messy.
Wide mouth jars or buckets are better for fruits
I believe you are supposed to flavor about a week before racking. Helps with the blockage issue, and the fruit flavor comes out stronger.
Great video! Will begin my mead tomorrow using local orange blossom honey.
I ordered this kit off amazon because of this video. I am 5 days from racking. Cannot wait
How did it turn out?
Just bought my kit a few days ago, starting my acerglyn today. Quite excited to see how it turns out
Good tip about degassing before adding niuteriunts.
very well made video! ended up buying a kit, I always wanted to try.
How did it come out?
great video - great pace as you explain the principles. The racking demonstration was top notch
Mine came out great!
So beautifully said thank you
Just started my first batch, hopefully it turns out well!!!
I love the mars attacks tattoo on his bicep.
oh yeah the mead looks cool too.
Was recommended from Kingcobrajfs videos
Same 😊
Dang if I knew people were posting how to make mead I should of started almost a year ago lol awesome video btw
Most straight forward how to make mead
Cannot wait to get started. I want to brew my own booze and seeing as I’m limited on space this is my best bet at the moment
I love how the video progress bar is yellow
Looks great ❤
I followed this video perfectly and made the nastiest mead Iv ever had.
Oh dude! I didn't know you guys had a channel I've bought 3 of your kits, I've got an Orange Citrus Mead, a Baked Apple Pie Cyser and a Cinnamon Donut Cider fermenting right now. Wish me luck. First one will be finished end of next week.
How'd it turn out?
I just got this and immediately started mixing. It should be ready by Christmas. I had 2 pounds of honey and half pound of maple syrup. We'll see!
Okay...this looks cool af
This dude is legit! Great videos, great recipes, and prolly has one of the biggest peeners in all of the homebrewing community.
Excellent video, ton of useful info for beginners. My only peeve is that I prefer using a carboy as a secondary container and a more wide-mouth vessel for primary fermentation, as its easier to put on chunks of food and way easier to clean later.
Enjoyed your video and plan to watch more of your content after subscribing. Thought it might be a little easier to stir with a drill, or an old mixer, especially if you need to stir for several minutes. I've never brewed anything but plan on giving it a try since you make it look so easy.
This is a great video, and a great kit! I just started with it yesterday, degassed and added day 2 nutrients today, so far so good! Using orange blossom honey; can't wait to see how it will turn out!
bro is me
@@doctorcdub2413 Good luck with yours! Mine is still in the carboy. It stopped fermenting right on queue, but then about three days later it started up again. If all goes well, I can rack by Saturday.
@@Aidames I bought all the ingredients including orange blossom honey and I'm just waiting for my yeast to arrive. I didn't buy this particular kit so I had to buy some stuff seperately.
@@doctorcdub2413 I just racked mine today, and if I may give you a piece of advice: if you haven't already, buy an auto siphon. I used the one in the kit shown in the video, and as a beginner, it was a mess. I lost about half a bottle of mead due to my own clumsiness trying to siphon manually.
I believe I already have one but I'm not 100 percent. Probably gonna check online to confirm. Thanks for the help big man.@@Aidames
This looks like a really good beginner kit with lots of detailed information. I am concerned that your backsweetening kit doesn’t contain potassium metabisulfite. The sorbate alone isn’t enough to reliably stop refermentation.
The sorbate will not stop active fermentation, but will prevent a stopped fermentation from starting when the sugar is added.
@@scotteinuis4991 I know, notice the “re”
I’ve got tons of raspberry bushes behind my house gonna buy this and try it with some fresh berries!!!
Just bought this kit yesterday
Just finished the day 1 instructions and followed the video. Measurements are different in UK, might be useful to mention moving forward but excited to see results.
Making Mead IS indeed easy, making good Mead is an art.
I've made a lot of Mead over the last 40 years and I'm still not an artist...all the time.
Great kit btw, only thing I'd add would be a racking cane tip to keep out the lees(sediment/dead yeast).
It does come with a racking cane. One came in my kit

Love this video!
Thanks!! Really useful!!!
Should I alway stabilize the mead before bottling even if I’m not planning to back sweeten the Mead? 1st time brewing mead!
Cool video I saw lots of great information !
Ive made mead for years, and i just bought a kit from Craftabrew, will be interesting to see how your stuff compares to mine
for storing the mead either backsweatening or not do you have to stabilize the mead? and should you use an air lock for bottled mead?
I'll make an order from Amazon to Sweden, vary helpful video
Super novice here, just started my first batch 4 days ago. I used some crushed pomegranate and lime zest, as well as replacing about 1/3 of the water with pomegranate juice concentrate. I see many videos and instructions referring to having separate primary and secondary fermentation vessels. There’s no second container or instructions regarding a second vessel, I’m assuming that’s because the craft a brew kit uses the same carboy for both processes? Also any tips on what to keep an eye out for since I used fruit/fruit juice would be appreciated! Happy meading!
Please make a video on backsweetening!
Great video. ❤
Great video!!! I just got the kit and did day one instructions, but I have a couple of questions. When you say add 1/3 of the honey I believe you meant 1/2 of the honey cause you only poured honey twice and the 2nd question is after you add the yeast, do you have to shake the carboy? because the yeast seats on top of the liquid. Thank you!
Would you recommend sanitizing the funnel for day 2 and day 5 nutrients if I use it to add them?
After Day 5 nutrients, how often would you de-gas? So far, it's been just as expected. Thank you for this vid! Made it a breeze!
Help! I started a batch last night and must have overfilled bc it is overflowing from the top. Can I just pour some out and put the plug back in? Or will that mess it up?
Got the kit and got it going! Having so much fun creating and learning the ancient ways...
One question - im on the 7th day. Is it normal i dont see any gas going through the air lock like it used to go previously? Is it normal that it looks still?
How long should i wait till "10 days pre- bottle degassing"?
I made this yesterday and am about to add the day 2 nutrients but it doesn't look like the mead has started fermenting at all. Have I done something wrong or is it OK to keep going as per the instructions
Great vid.
Would adding a vanilla pod to the carboy at the start add any noticeable flavour or would the honey overpower it?
Regards, Jas.

I just did my day 2 stuff with this kit. And the video def helped a bit. But it seems like I have much more gas than he does here. And my initial make with the nutrients and yeast looked horrid compare to this lol
So how often are you degassing after the second batch of nutrients? Also that cleared up alot did you use bentonite or anything to clear it?
You can shake it up once a day, but every other day or even not at all is fine.
Do you have a video for how to clean your starter kit specifically how to get rid of water and air bubbles from your tubing?
What are yoour thoughts oon if i wanted to add mint (like mint leaves)? do you think the flavour would work out? about how much mint do you reckon i'd need?
You resanitize your funnel each nutrient addition? Also would it be possible to keep the sanitizing water solution in the bucket till the 5th day addition?
I’m about 27 days in and had great fermentation but my mead is still pretty cloudy I don’t want to rush it, but does it have significant clearing in the last few days?
Would a slight vacuum be beneficial or detrimental to the must when degassing? IE pull the one way valve out and, using a vacuum pump, create a slight vacuum for degassing?
Great video, I just started making my mead a few days ago. Only question I have is how often should I de-gas my mead? Every 3-5 days?
I love this guy.
Buddy, start doing audiobooks.
just finished mine, its strong and has some bite but doesn't really tase like much, I'm hoping it will develop a stronger tase as it agen is the bottles. next batch ill use that sweetener.
The flavor will develop and smooth as it ages but for more sweetness I'd recommend our back-sweetening kit to get that honey flavor: craftabrew.com/products/backsweetening-mead
Nice to see you "thwacked your packet".
how would you adapt to do a different mead using the kit? I've been dying to try some of the mead recipes in the elder scrolls cookbook!! (first time as well)
This was great, but how often should I be degassing my mead?
So the first degassings happen before adding nutrients on Day 2 and Day 5. How often do you continue to degas after that? Once a week?
I'm 2 days into making mead and decided to watch for more pointers. Glad I did because I didn't know to add more nutrients. Definitely had a foam over though
I've been brewing for years and never add any nutrients, not all brewers do. My friends and me also never add anything to stop the fermentation or to help it clear. After ~3 months it will clear itself and fermentation is long done and it will degas (unless it tastes very sweet, then you know it got stuck). Cheers!
@@theastronomer5800So it sounds like the nutrients and regular degassing save you 2 months, if nothing else.
I'm on day 3 of my first mead using this kit. So far I have great fermentation. Last night when trying to add Day 2 nutrients, I degassed quite a bit and then added nutrient little bit at a time and I still was getting tons of bubbles and had some bubbling out of the carboy, but thankfully, no geyser. I'm going to try the Day 2 nutrients again tonight, but if the fermentation is aggressive as it has been today and yesterday, is it necessary to add the nutrients on days 2 and 5 when fermentation is going so well?
Approximately what abv is the mead using this kit and following these instructions? I just bottled my first two gallons and i dont have the equipment to figure out the alcohol content. It tastes strong but not horrible.
Can I rack into a separate jug at 2 weeks in? To help clarify more? What about cold crashing as well?
Are you not racking into a different vessels to help clear the mead? Ive never not racked my mead so this is new to me. Is the degassing process the only thing to do to help clear it?
apples plus raspberry plus strawberry tone it down with half cup light molasses and then put less honey in yeast and stir yep yep ?
i like 10% and below should i do half the amount of honey in this ??
Looks awesome! How long does it take from Day 1 until it's ready to be bottled?
30 days from start to finish. You can always let it age in the bottle and the flavors will develop more over time.
My mead is not clear like in the video been over a month is it okay to bottle?
Does anyone know the OG measurement for this? I totally didn't know I needed to measure it since this is my first time making mead and I'm about to bottle today. Thanks!
Hey i just started with the kit a few hours ago and i added the yeast. The yeast is floating on top of the foam in the same spot i put it in is this normal or should i do something
