  • My Dad, Lawrence applauded the city's acknowledgment of the unsustainable car culture and its call for improvement. He emphasized the importance of active transportation, multi-use pathways, and alternative commuter options in achieving a more sustainable urban environment.
    City council, make London better.
    🚶‍♂️🚴‍♂️ Embracing Active Transportation
Sharing his personal experiences, Mr. Durham, a 63-year-old car owner, highlighted his frequent use of a Dutch-style upright bicycle for everyday errands. He debunked the misconception that cycling is restricted to certain age groups and regions, noting the global prevalence of cycling among individuals over 60. He stressed the necessity of protected bicycle infrastructure to ensure the safety of cyclists sharing the road with heavier vehicles.
    🛤️🏡 Multi-Use Pathways and Community
Mr. Durham expressed his delight in the city's multi-use pathways, particularly praising the Thames Valley Parkway. He eagerly anticipated enhanced pathway connections to eliminate the need to cross busy streets and underscored the role of these pathways in fostering community and mobility. He advocated for designing new neighbourhoods that prioritize people over cars.
🚆🚴‍♀️ Challenges and Alternative Commuter Solutions
While commending the city's long-term bicycle path network plans, Mr. Durham highlighted the lack of cycle tracks and transit infrastructure in the eastern part of London. He advocated for ensuring alternative transportation options, especially for lower-wage workers, to reduce dependency on car ownership and promote inclusivity in society.
🚫🚦 Vision Zero and Strategic Planning
In line with Vision Zero principles aimed at eliminating traffic fatalities, Mr. Durham urged city councillors and staff to hold developers accountable for creating walkable, bicycle-friendly neighbourhoods. He emphasized the importance of incorporating alternative transportation solutions for all Londoners and integrating these goals into the city's strategic and mobility plans.
Lawrence Durham's impassioned speech underscored his commitment to sustainable urban planning, active transportation, and enhanced cycling infrastructure to benefit the entire London community. 🌆🚲

This is why I am forced onto the sidewalks to bike where I live. We get semi trucks passing bike lanes here going 40. (not joking the bike lane that's on the road I live off of is on a super busy 4 Lane wide road that is dangerous, with cars frequently eating the bike lane.)
