Behind the goal supporting Everton? If you were a regular at Highfield Road (I too was there...behind that very goal in the lower West) then you would surely remember that everyone DID know what had happened. They had been trying the donkey kick since the start of the season in August....but kept on failing.....much to the amusement of we Cov fans who jeered every time they missed.
It was a remarkable stroke of luck that the kick came good whilst the TV cameras were there (not all matches were televised in those days).

Great strike, but the goal shouldnt have stood. The ball should be 'struck' when that or any other dead ball kick is taken. Picking the ball up with both feet and lifting it into the air like that was ilegal then and is ilegal now. I imagine referee's were watching closely from that point to ensure that didnt happen again, I know I was.

The novelty didn't last as it was banned soon after .

It wasn't 'made' illegal, it was always illegal. The ref should have disallowed the goal as Willie Carr played the ball twice by flicking it between both feet. Playing the ball twice from a free kick before another player touches it was always illegal as per the Laws of the game.
