Newcastle v Sheffield Wednesday 1984
Yesterday me and my friend did it and he scored top bins
Many people are unaware that Coventry attempted this free-kick again in a following game, but Ernie Hunt's volley hit the bar. After that, this free-kick technique was made illegal.
Ernie Hunt took the cannon shot!.
As a 13 yr old I was there unbelievable game I'm still looking at highlights as a 64 yr old what an atmosphere in the ground holte End in full cry
is that young Paul Scoles?
Laughs in Roberto Carlos
Date rate it thst highly tbh
As Alex Hunter's grandpa would say: ''Sweet as a nut''
How was the ref called a foul? That would never be given today. Soft overpaid primadonnas, not like the real men playing now.
Glad to see im not the only one with this dvd set Wouldnt mind. A sequel since this was produced after they thought MotD was cancelled that one time
0:36 Number 8: New Kids verrückte Mongo
I miss the fashion of throwing rolls of toilet paper. So quaintly English. Nerdy perverse.
This was England...
how was this ever legal?
My idiot friend just said that the foreign involvement in UK football improved the game . I said stop drinking the kool aid !
This wasn't the best free kick ever. It was interesting at the time, though.
Didnt they outlaw this type of free kick?
Only white people .. 🎉🎉🎉 dream or .. were they RACIST ?
John motson first game as a commentator and what a game it was this is the makes the fa cup special
Loved that Everton away kit.
The good old days when if you got tackled hard you pretty much got straight back up, not rolling around today like you’ve been shot by a sniper
So ingenious, they banned it.
the photographer at the back of the net was me!!!I was 16yrs old at the time and used to work as freelance with my dad for the coventry magazine, blues mag, and the villa mag,...The next season this goal was on the bbc match of the day intros.....so I was on telly for a whole season!!..lol
Which year
@@ThaboM 71/72 season I think,...but the goal by Ernie hunt was the previous season
Amazing!
And the main camera actually missed it.
Love the simple jerseys...
Question mark of the legality of it.
They actually changed (or clarified) the rules because of this free kick. At the time there was nothing wrong with it. It was also the first ever goal of the season.
Ahh, the black suit and bad teeth years.
Wot no Africans!
They banned that free kick following that.
And originality 😂
Although Coventry were allowed to keep the points from the game, the goal was deemed illegal as two touches of the ball were taken to flick the ball up using two feet and the goal was deducted from the Goals For for the season. Some years later Matt Le Tissier touched a free kick to a team mate who flicked the ball up which Le Tissier volleyed over the wall into the goal.
The commentary made it for me, just the right amount of excitement and the roar of a proper crowd 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This looks like it was part of the original Star Trek TV series.
That’s a illegal free kick
I always thought this goal got chalked off?
Jimmy hill 😂 what a funny old game
What a goal that was! Oooooft!! They would have been proud of that in Brazil 👌🏻
The records show that this was Coventry's best ever team. Managed by Noel Cantwell, they finished 6th in 69/70 in the old First Division, which remains their highest league position. 10th in 70/71, the season that this brilliant goal was scored.
Incredible!
The good old days but now if u trip over a blade of grass you kick and scream, rolling around the pitch and scream in foul😂
Back when footie kits were just that - footie kits; not advertising boards on beach wear!!
2 amazing FA Cup goals live long in my memory.....Radfords goal in the mud from this game....and Steve McKenzies wonder volley in the final vs Spurs
Over 48,000 for a third tier game, quite incredible, there must have been a great atmosphere.
Same old Leeds always cheating
I remember seeing this when I was in my youth, I'm now 80 years old.
Notice how the players didn’t surround the ref! How things change!
alan carrs dad willie
got to be the greatest cup upset in the history of the FA cup, leeds were at the time the man city of today, and little colchester of the fourth division beat them , it was magic
Remember this so well. One of the biggest shocks of all time for me. Right there with Hereford Newcastle for FA cup legend. Ray Crawford, some player. 💚⚽️💚PAFC.
