    I've asked for the maintenance person at hotels when it looks like a breaker issue. At first they will claim they know nothing about the equipment, then I ask if they can just check the breaker which they do understand and bingo. At a Holiday Inn in Nashville I got to know where the electrical room was, if the maintenance dude on duty claimed to not know where the breakers were for the chargers I'd say "I do!" and point to the electrical room. Larger hotels normally have a maintenance person available on site to deal with problems in the rooms, I see the charging equipment as an extension of the hotel services and we should be empowered to ask for help fixing issues. Once you have the attention of the maintenance person then you can request they report issues that are beyond their ability to deal with on site.

    • @johnpoldo8817
      @johnpoldo8817 7 месяцев назад

      Exactly correct, just ask for the electrical room. Most commercial buildings put all electrical breakers in the same room and minimize sub-panels. Of course, you might have to open the door on numerous breaker panels to find the one breaker for EV charger, but it should be labeled.

    • @JeanPierreWhite
      @JeanPierreWhite 7 месяцев назад

      @@johnpoldo8817 I doubt a hotel would let you into their electrical room. I was suggesting that it is sometimes necessary to let the maintenance staff know where the breaker is to be found.

    She has my configuration. My story is similar to hers on early order, change from quad, power tonneau, etc as well. I want the max pack because we tow a camp trailer and I want more wilderness exploring range.
    I am glad to see this real report. Long story short I’ll be driving my Mini Cooper SE from San Diego to Phoenix to trade in on my Rivian performance dual motor max pack and driving that back. ABRP is giving me similar numbers and a long stop in Quartzsite. The total distance from Phoenix to home is 350 miles. I would think a short splash and dash should do it. We’ll see. I’m picking mine up around thanksgiving.

    My commute is 125 miles each way. Folsom, CA to OAK. So mild weather usually. I'm an airline pilot so then the truck will sit for 2-4 days. Gear guard on is a good idea. Then 125 miles back home.
    In your opinion will the max pack be able to make that round trip with the sit without a charge?
    I have a LRMY and had a LRM3. Neither are close to being able to at freeway speeds with or without Sentry mode.
    (I've got the max pack on order and they're pressing me to confirm my configuration. I'm as hung up on the $10k as a lot of people - bc it's basically the same price as the quad max pack 180kwH - now it's great- I'm into efficiency too- but it's got a lot less hardware for the same price (choosing the acceleration boost for $5k)
    If it could make my commute without a charge stop (no charging at the airport) - I'd do it.

    Like Miss GoElectric, I have an R1T Max Pack on order. I also originally ordered the quad motor max pack with powered tonneau. I don't have a delivery window yet. I've been trying to get Rivian to tell me when the powered tonneau will be available again, either on the configurator or as a retrofit, but no luck. I'm also asking them if they will give me the old price when it arrives, since that's the way I originally ordered it. Mine's currently configured with the manual tonneau but from the videos I've seen that kind of sucks.

    So at 2.18 the difference between max pack and large, assuming 129 kwh usable for large and 142 usable for max its a difference of 29 miles. 281 for large and 310 for max... Assuming you use the entire battery which folks don't normally do. If you use 80-90% of the battery its even less. Im still having a hard time seeing the value in max pack for the extra 10k.

So I am waiting for at least 500 miles of range in case the nearest chargers are not working. At 18:45 Miss Go Electric said she should have dropped the amperage on her truck when plugging into an unknown level two charger. That should never be required. The level two protocol clearly has the charger indicate to the vehicle how much power can be safely drawn. I’m very familiar with J1772 protocol because I made a tester for EV chargers at my workplace. if a breaker blue, it either means the charger was not correctly telling the truck how much power it should draw or that the truck is not honoring what the Charger is telling it. Either way, it is not her fault and I wouldn’t want users having to know what to have to set their vehicles to, that would be a very complicated world.

    I had originally ordered Max Pack in Nov. 2018...finally gave in and got the Large...btw, the Max back then was a Quad w/180 kWh battery, so not even close to what they are calling it now. So Miss GoElectric got 251 miles + 50= 301 miles. I just did a 1,104-mile road trip last week (22" performance tires). We averaged 2.31 miles/kWh over 1,103.8 miles or 300 miles (mix of Conserve on hwy and All-purpose). A reminder also, her Max pack is front-wheel drive the majority of the time. If you've spent any amount of time in a Quad Rivian, it handles much more securely in the rain in All-purpose (all-wheel drive vs. conserve (front-wheel drive). I'll keep my Quad until Rivian makes some genuine improvements over the Large Quad. For now, the "Max Pack" and the huge cost factor are not worth it. I'm still waiting to see someone get close to 410 miles. Highly doubtful it can do it. My guess would be that 360 miles will be the best range the Dual Max can eke out.

      Not sure - hotels offer a lot of amenities for "free" - even if everyone doesn't use it. Heating the pools, hot tubs, etc costs money too but not everyone uses them. Either way if they charge for an they better be available. IMO.

      Hotels I’ve stayed at have a pool, spa/hot tub, fitness room, free morning coffee / tea, plus many other amenities. Often, I don’t use any of these, but all amenities are still factored into my room charge. EV charging is simply another way to attract guests and differentiate a hotel from the competition. I remember as a child, some hotels advertised “heated” pool vs a standard pool.

    • @karlInSanDiego
      @karlInSanDiego 7 месяцев назад

      These are fair responses. We probably stay at different places. I can't afford $299 a night, so I stay at $99 a night motels and that's still expensive to me. If the motel had to pay for 100kWh of electricity to top off a 150kWh Rivian Max Pack at $.32/kWh and that is actually less than the retail cost of power here, it would represent 33% of my stay at $32 worth of electricity AND the convenience of that happening onsite. There is early adopter hotel bragging rights that they have a charger, and then there is the reality of upholding that feature forever, which won't scale without an increase in price for the rooms for everyone regardless if they use the charger. That's the point I'm trying to make.
      It's fine to try to think in terms of what helps EV adoption, but let's not act like it's not a privilege to power a large vehicle with a full tank of fuel, and that privilege is never offered to people without EVs. The people running motels (not hotels) aren't rich. They're often the working poor, and on our recent trip in the Southwest that included a Ramada which was being privately run as a franchise, so be aware that times are changing. So my reaction to the hotel charging rant was a little different.
