R.J. has always impressed me, very honest, straight shooter and easy to talk with and he definitely appreciates Sandy as do we all, am just a Bit Smarter now too !
This is why I like Engineer type CEO. They just seem to know so much more details than a Marketing/Sales type CEO who seem like they are studying for an exam.
Well done Rivian! Appreciate the candid dialog. Rivian must be a great company to work for with RJ at the helm. Appreciate his humble attitude, his technical knowledge and the desire to build it better while working towards reducing the costs without jeopardizing the quality. Munro team thanks for yet another solid video. Looking forward to more, especially on the Rivian.
“ it’s a good call out” refreshing to see a Founder/CEO that’s humble and open to actually receiving feedback to improve upon . As long as this culture exists in any company , they can adapt and change as per challenges.
Firstly, Sandy… Your routine ball busting of CEOs that happen to also be engineers is you at your best!.. secondly, nice going RJ! Love your answers and really appreciate what you’re doing for the EV world and the climate change movement at large.
it's how awesome to see both men going into so technical detail discussion. RJ is really a product guy who know most of the thing. COOL! Not a typical CEO.
Thanks Sandy and RJ for this great interview. Sandy is a true American patriot who helped Tesla and now Rivian improve their EV design and manufacturability. Very impressed with RJ's detailed knowledge of his vehicle design. Legacy OEMs will have a very difficult time competing with Tesla and Rivian who are vertically integrated and owns their own software and hardware (motors). Good job. All EV companies need to invest in state of the art hardware used as the nerve connections between ECUs.
Good work Sandy, Your approvals are Gold ! From die hard truck worker Rivian has too small a bed . I will steal your line and saw I appreciate anything well built! Jim
Love my R1T best vehicle I have owned out of 36 cars and trucks in 30 years. This baby is a real keeper. My Truck was a perfect specimen unlike my two Model Ys I owned.
RJ being willing and capable to have these conversations with Sandy says it all. Keep up the good work Sandy and RJ. The Rivian team is doing great and are learning tons. What a great product, and made in 🇺🇸
I'm so glad we took a chance with Rivian and about to take delivery next month. Great discussion and this is how CEOs should know about their products. Pure engineering 🤓 to really understanding the design of the R1S.
Awesome guys……a prudent reason to “de-content”……I know many Rivian owners…….they’d never noticed….it’s a humble brag at best…..and here in SoCal, the furthest off-road most Rivians get, is parking at the Greek or Coachella🙄😎
Nice interview in Arizona we have high temperatures that caus large panels to expand a bit and wrinkle. I've noticed that in the Amazon rivian Vans as well as our local Metro light rail cars. It seems they were assembled in cold weather and the fit was probably fine but when they come out here they look like baggy pants. How can you solve that problem?
Hi Rivian, can we have the Amazon van in 'camper spec' with mild 4x4, solar panels, RHD option, and an open air balcony made of aluminum tubing that extends out of the rear when stationary????? 🙂
It seems like the Dual Motor is basically "Conserve" mode on the Quad. I wish we could get more info about the basic Dual Motor and not the Performance. I don't see the point in the Performance Motor when the Quad is 3k more? The standard Dual motor and Quad Motor should be the comparison.. That's what I want to know about.
Very good discussion Sandy, you had RJ thinking. I was hoping for a discussion on the Tesla power adapter, or the switch over to the NACS. Since you complain about the non-tesla charging network.
Honestly I never could understand how 4 motors make economic sense in terms of cost vs value/function. One motor on each axle together with a helical/torsen style differential and brake based traction control would be even better for off road use in terms of max power going to an individual wheel. The cost savings would be significant.
I'd love to see Sandy try out some of the leading electric scooters. Micromobility is going gangbusters. I always grew up with scooters, never learned to ride a bike (2000s kid), and the hub motors etc in scooters are so much fun and great engineering nuance. All the scooters look pretty similar to the uninitiated, but I recently went from Ninebot Segway, to Apollo (Canadian brand reminds me of Rivian), and have been blown away. Across "classes" the scooters have single or dual motors from 300w-3000w. All types of brakes and combinations are on display, as are battery cells, design philosophy of use, app integrations. I'm most surprised by the differences in tire technologies, from solid 8" to 12" air, sometimes with tubes and sometimes "self healing." Look up Apollo Pro and Segway GT2 as high end examples with design that's pushing the envelope. It would be so fun to get Sandy (maybe Cory, if he's good) scooting around HQ!
In my opinion what is gonna make people sell their Teslas and gas cars to buy Rivian is the engineering of Rivian and the quality 😉. Cyber truck vs Rivian truck I think it is reputation vs engineering. Tesla boomed cuz Rivian wasn't ready yet but making this year 52k cars and next year 80k is not too bad so 2025 is gonna be the biggest year for Rivian to that point.
I don't get the point of the dual motor if the prices are about the same. Why wouldn't you just get the quad? I thought the point of this was to make the vehicles more affordable?
It is not hard to built a good EV car. It is super hard to make money building and selling those. When are you going to stop losing 20K+ per car, Rivian? Most folks have no clue and just see what a nice car you got, but when are you going to make some dough?
Wow, did the comment section gets sanitized quickly. I guess that thoughtful, fact based discussions are not allowed on Monroe live. I’m unsubscribing. Thank you.
Hi Eric, we don't delete comments unless they are spam. This video was posted on both our Podcast channel as well as the Munro Live channel - perhaps the comments you are looking for are on the other video. Sorry for the confusion.

I really hope Rivian can get to scale cos they are doing a really good job imo up till now! They really deserve it
I hope they survive. The RIVIAN has a long way to go before it’s profitable.

There is no global warming. Co2 is an insignificant gas.

One of the CEOs who knows about his company's products.
Just can't get enough of top engineers discussing these kinds of topics

Seems like Rivian has turned the ship in the right direction.
I think they'll have an excellent future for sure.
I'd like to know why there's a difference in warranty between quad motor and dual motor. Why does the in-house dual motor have a worse warranty?
Absolutely love Sandy busting out a cart of parts so he can directly ask a CEO, "Why?" Hope to see Rivian continue to grow!
Great interview. I am pulling for Rivian to make it.

THANKS SANDY, RJ AND THE MUNRO TEAM 😎💚💚💚
AND the Rivian team!
@@wilber8260 OF COURSE 🤗👍
Sandy and and RJ are just great in their own way. Love this.
Great discussion guys.
Thanks for listening!

This is awesome to see. Thank you Sandy
The contrast between the hubris of the insignificant vs the humility of the achiever always amazes me on this channel.

I would love to see a critique of the "Ultium" platform with Mary.
That would be a laugh and the worlds shortest video.
This comment feeds the hungry Munro algorithm 🚀
Rivian is the second most noticeable electric vehicle I notice in my town. Very nice looking vehicle and apparently well built and engineered.
"we're paid to nit pick" ... nuff said. 🙂
Sandy doesn’t own any RIVN stock, but this partnership is a pretty darn good forward looking statement :)

A dual which is lighter, and is within tenths of a quad is awesome. Love fact they are in Irvine, OC USA.

FYI, RJ has a master's degree in mechanical engineering from MIT and has so much experience building the Rivian brand😉🙂
Where can I buy an RJ t-shirt!?

A rational CEO; how novel, they do exist
It's probably worth a lot to please this man so that he speaks so positively about the engine
Engine?
@@paulchristenson5256 yes, motor
A coating in the inverter to protect against breaching?
Now if only RJ can get our tonneau covers fixed.
I know…wtf?
Drunk after sushi is greatest line I've heard in a car review😅😅
So did I understand that correctly, you can possibly flat tow this behind a motorhome?
Good chat
I am a huge Tesla bull, but I like RJ.

Yes!
I think Genesis/Hyundai/Kia EV powertrains decouple, too.

Please add rear wheel steering!!!
We need the straight scoop on the can Rivian stay in business and is GM buying them out.
Dual motor equals mainly front wheel drive….80’s mini van!!
I don't get the point of the dual motor if the prices are about the same. Why wouldn't you just get the quad? I thought the point of this was to make the vehicles more affordable?
I hope you get to do one with Elon for CyberTruck too
RJ in da House!!🎉
..no Stutters 😅❤
Wish I could help RJ...❤
It sounds like Rivian has gotten to the backside of production hell.
I LOVE PEOLPLE MAKE POSIBLE RIVIAN
yessssssssssssssssssssssssss
Batman needs Robin
Tesla does not make the vehicle I want, the Rivian R1S/T to me is much more useful.
Nice 🫶

I agree , , and the master of production will teach us all !
well at the end of this video RJ just said how he is cutting cost by 25% by using these motors over the bosch.....
