    Sandy kept feeding him the same questions without realizing it. We want to know how many fast discharge cycles it gets. What does it cost now? What are the projected costs? By when? Which parts of the manufacturing don't scale well? Etc

    I loved this. The zen-like calm in this chat seems out of place given things like 0-60 in 1.5s, 0-80% charging in 6 mins, and 50% more range in the same weight of battery pack. This is revolutionary, exciting stuff.

    Thanks for this interview. In addition to aircraft, I see a huge market in marine applications. Obviously loading a boat with batteries will dramatically increase the displacement and reduce efficiency. High energy density batteries will be a game changer for electric boats

    When you showed that chart that shows battery discharge levels (C) and that Amprius battery can go to 10C, it made me realize why devices "only use half the energy in the battery" going from 100% charge to "no" or "0%" charge. Because zero percent is actually where the voltage gets too low to be usable. If this is right, that means there is only 500 watt hours usable in every 1 kWh in current batteries, but up to 900 or more watt hours in every kWh of Amprius batteries. This means their battery capacity is almost double per watt hour in addition to having more power. Half the batteries needed per mile.

    LiPos used by drone racing folks are rated at 60C and actually deliver such currents. Gens Tattu is one brand I'm aware of. How they differ from this Amprius stuff? Only delivering that for a few minutes and maybe a hundred cycles in their lifetime? While Amprius aims for much longer times and higher cycle count?

    • @lighthousesaunders7242

      Exactly

    • @hersheykiss9500
      @hersheykiss9500 Год назад

      Amprius has much higher energy density. high energy density batteries tend to have "low" discharge capability, and amprius is starting to touch the discharge rates of common lipos like gens tattu, which have much lower energy densities than amprius batteries. smc racing is better than gens tattu btw.

    I'm wondering what the life of such battery would be in terms of charge/discharge cycles? Especially with the mentioned 6 min charge time to 80%.

    Apparently, it's not all sunshine and roses in Brighton. I just read about how people in the community are concerned with the usual anxiety: chemicals, fire, and explosion potential. One would think these community members would be overjoyed with the potential of Amprius, the jobs, the technology, and the potential to affect global climate change. No?

    The C rate chart is charging only. Tested (not advertised) C rate discharge for common cylindrical cells are between 20C and 3C, with many popular ones in the 11.5C range. Yes, charge rates are lower at 5C or less, most around 2-2.5C

    There is a lot of rose colored lens here with this battery technology. Besides cost, which comes down with economies of scale, what is the bad sides? Why doesn't everyone use/license this technology? Seems too good to be true...

    Cycle life is only 650, but they're working towards 1,000 cycles. Meanwhile Natron's sodium batteries are good for 50,000 cycles, but their energy density isn't even 100wh/kg.

    they do have data sheets posted on cycle life, and its not great or bad either, its 650 cycles, understand aircraft industry more focused on energy density than cycle life, the general public comments on here crack me up. for me what is the price of this technology? can a guy building a home built aircraft, manned drone or ultralight afford a battery amprious cell flight pack, Tenergy is selling flight packs using amprious cells and its a competitive price. i was easily able to find all this data, so find it like i did. do your research lazy folks!

    Again military can drive innovation as it, for a non-commercial price, can slingshot the energy-intensive cel technology. Pentagon cost high taxation, but again and again it innovates America (and the world) forward. Drones - a big deal as we see on TV daily. Sadly so btw ...
