    LV is having an identity crisis and they are going to have to figure out what kind of company they are-especially with LVMH being publicly traded. I’d be interested to see how profitable their canvas monogram bags are compared to their more expensive leather pieces. The canvas is probably their bread and butter, but their ultra rich clientele are probably less likely to buy them. But if they alienate middle and upper middle class buyers to maintain exclusivity, I think they’re going to see it in their bottom line. Even thought they have endless pockets, even the rich will only buy so much.

    • @LValiquette
      @LValiquette  3 года назад +3

      Very well said. The canvas is really what has made the company what they are today. I understand that they want their leather pieces to standout and to provide a small demographic that exclusivity, but they will be losing a larger market.

    I so agree! LV is on the war path discontinuing canvas :) I feel like they are rebranding to stand out with the competition and nothing wrong with change, but I think to disregard and underproduce a line that has been their bread and butter is questionable, but if it makes sense, LV discontinues it. They have always discontinued canvas pieces, nothing new, but in the past few months they have cut a few pieces way above normal.
    I am not a fan of their current launches, I prefer the classics and a twist on a classic and for that reason, I have sold a few of my pieces and is left with 3 bags which is more than enough for me, I love their SLG which I will continue to buy but I don't see buying anything else from the brand any time soon. After getting approved for permanent life insurance to protect my future retirement my conspicuous consumer days are over. There are so many homeless women where I live (LA) that are not seniors yet but not young. It makes me reflect on my choices. A nice bag once a year as a treat is ok but keeping up with bloggers and online materialists is not responsible. LV also burns bags which is not in line with zero waste / environmental standards. I’m glad you’re sharing your points but besides quality flaws and increased pricing, these were my personal ones. The logo is everywhere in the US in the EU they are grandma bags. Young people wouldn’t spend that much on a bag and they don’t live on credit.

    I cannot handle the wild collection with all the animal print! It's so tacky but that is just my opinion. I'm the same I am very happy with my monogram speedy I bought 9 years ago. I have a few other classic pieces in monogram and Ebene. The last time I bought from LV was back in 2018. I just can't justify the price anymore and I sadly feel like it's become fast fashion with luxury prices. Same for Chanel. I have one Chanel bag from 2015 and that's all I'll ever have.

    Totally agree! I also feel like LV is not targeting the millennials anymore. Their new target audience is Gen Z. That whole generation is so ahead of everything and a lot of them have already started earning. The new collections match their sense of style than with millennials. Apparently millennials are "Cheugy". The price increase on the other hand is ridiculous, but LV also don't want their bags to be seen everywhere with just anybody. They only want people who can afford the new price increase. The whole canvas line of bags will be fully gone in a few years. They are planning to make only leather items. So if anyone wants anything, it's best to get it now before it's gone.

    I’m with you on this. I keep hearing on resell market that they changed the canvas material and it’s now thinner, lower quality and can be easily cracked and scratched whereas before it wasn’t. The price increase is actually SO ridiculous IMO. It really deters me from buying a bag and honestly have been going to resell route. Also, the popular items are extremely hard to get it in store or online. I believe that also increase the desire for purchasing. It’s marketing strategy. In the end, it is business. Yes!!!! They are becoming unaffordable because they don’t want the average working person buying their bags. Especially when some people were taking their bags and adding chains etc and turning them into different bags. If they are too expensive then only the well off can afford them. Thats why they stopped selling that toiletry pouch. I don’t think they care if you stop buying them. I’m surprised that people haven’t realized this. Just curious which preloved markets do you go to?

    I agree! I only buy LV, but prices are going up and quality is going down. I also feel like the new items are very trendy but not useful. I will only spend that much money on a bag I can carry on a daily basis. The SA's actually said to me "why do you keep asking about these older bags". I just like the older bags. Where do you buy your pre-loved bags?

    Totally agreed! I usually purchased two same bags from the website, and picked up the one with less quality issue then returned the other one as most of the time , it’s quality issue…. The classic looks is way more better than the new design . 😭

      The fact that you need to get two and choose the better of them, says something about LV craftsmanship and quality control. How terrible!

    I bought a beautiful black leather handbag from a leather store in Portland, Oregon for $250. (Will Leather). The leather is soft, and a thousand other people don’t have the same bag 👍

    Hey beautiful. Yes, the price increases are bananas. And when there are problems their customers service is HORRIFIC! Honestly, Ive turned to pre-loved when I want something lately. I won’t lie, there are two things I really want. But pre-loved can sometimes come at a premium. So I’ll wait. But I feel you on the new collections (the classics are more my vibe).

      Yes, the classics are definitely the only bags I'd consider buying at LV! But, I agree, the preloved market has also increased their prices due to demand. I heard there was another LV price increase this past weekend - what is going on!?

    I bought a key pouch last year and was disappointed with the craftsmanship. It’s uneven and the metal of the zip and the chain are different. I’m not sure what it looked like from a few years ago but I was expecting better quality.

    I have several LV pieces at one point decided I would not carry anything but, however I'm so over the price increases as well. It's been about 2 years since something has appealed to me.

    I don’t mind spending some money for a QUALITY bag that is going to last me for years to come rather than just a season, whether I can afford it or not.
