    So, one thing I did which made this build even more powerful is I cast spirit shroud using my higher level spell slots letting me outperform shadow blade. I think by the end of the game I had reached 11th level and was casting, and made a 2nd level fighter dip so I could cast spirit shroud at 5th level to deal an additional 3d8 damage so I would cast fire bolt as one of my attacks then make a rapier attack. The damage came out to 3d10+13d8+7 damage which averages out to 82 damage then I could action surge to do it all again on the first round of combat. At 20th level with 9th level spirit shroud, and an action surge you can deal 8d10+72d8+14 damage which deals 382 average damage in the first round of combat.

      These calculations are actually wrong it should be 8d10+72d8+24 damage for an average of 392 damage.

      I'm curious on your math. Spirit shroud does 1d8 plus an additional 1d8 for every 2 spell slot levels above 3rd. So if I'm doing the math right thats only 2d8 for a 5th level slot.

      Spirit shroud and and Shadow Blade are both concentration spells.

    I'm playing a Bladesinger/Fighter currently. One big limitation for me is my DM doesn’t allow Tasha's CoE. I started taking 1 level of fighter because of the character's backstory,but I took the Defensive fighting style for +1 to AC and my character is also proficient in Constitution saves. In this game level advancement is going a bit slow although we play every week for 15 months so far my character is only 10th level. I have been using Shadow Blade since 3rd level and it is amazing. The main problem with your build is it takes so long for the Bladesinger to come online essentially at 8th level when a wizard chooses their sub-class. Also, this campaign is home-brewed and expected to go to 16th level. Currently my character acquired a high powered Moonblade with a +3 bonus, and my wizard crafted Gauntlets of Ogre Power to use Strength to hit and damage and my 20 Intelligence gives him the all important +5 to AC. My character is a high elf and has 16 Dex (Iused the standard array too. His nativeStrengthis 8). Its no doubt the strongest character I've played in almost 40 years of playing D&D.

    Nice way to work with the standard array! I'm so glad my group rolls our stats though, it makes multiclassing so much easier.

      @shebvixen 3 года назад +1

      @Not Sure Understandable, my group has a pretty generous rolling method (rolling 2 sets of 7, dropping the lowest of each set and re-rolling 1's and 2's), so it makes things easier to work with. Not sure that I wouldn't stick to the standard array or point buy, if I wasn't rolling that way🙃

      @Not Sure lol, always the way! I tend to roll really well for stats and dreadfully on everything else 🤣

    I play a similar character, 1 difference though which I believe makes it superior.
    Using tashas and assigning abilities where I want, I play a Tortle variant that has +2 Int, +1 con, this allows me to dump bothers strength and dex completely.
    I have stats latex out highest to lowest as int, con, wis/Cha (as long as Cha is 13 I put wis as high as possible) then dex and strength.
    Why Cha 13? It gives me the option at high level to either play art3/wiz17 or art3/wiz14/warlock3
    This means you can dip into hex blade for 3 levels at some point if desired.
    Alternatively leaving dex at 13 means better initiative, and you can take 3 levels of fighter: champion for improved crit.

    I think if I was going to do this class, I would start in Artificer like you suggested but immediately go Wizard until 6. It lets a lot of stuff for the build come online faster and gets you into everything quicker. You get full wizard spell slots, new spell levels 2 levels quicker (shadowblade at level 4 instead of 6 for example), your extra attack 2 levels sooner, your ASI 2 levels sooner, etc. You're not even delaying the +1 attack/damage rolls from using your int instead of dex because that wouldn't come online until level 8 when you would get your ASI anyway.
    In summary, you're basically giving up your infusions and your golem to get bladesong (strictly better than infusions), improved general spellcasting, and quicker extra attack/shadowblade.

    A pc in the group planned to played a build very similar to this but went kobold instead and rode his battle defender. I heard his plan and did a gloomstalker kobold build we made em twins lots of damage output for sure

    Sanctuary on the steel defender and use only the reaction will improve its durability in combat by a lot.

    I missed how you got the jump from an AC of 18 to an AC of 24 by just having a DEX mod of +3... why is added twice?(I'm assuming it's added twice?)

      It's at 11:20 for anyone who wants to try to explain (tag me if you can please). But I think he just misspoke. His character sheet has the AC's 17/22/27 which I believe is base, while bladesinging or shield, and while both.

    You get it bro. I tend to start Human and take medium armor mastery, 16 Dex and Int, and stealth skill. I'll focus Int till 20 and grab whatever feats I want thereafter. Shadow blade is cool.. I usually don't use blade dancing.. I know, silly. I do 3 Art/6 BS/11 EK.

    there is no argument that can be won by anybody concerning whether Shadow Blade is a weapon or a magic weapon as the the 2nd sentence in the description of the spell reads: *This magic sword lasts until the spell ends.*

  • @VoluntaryHypnosis
    @VoluntaryHypnosis 2 года назад

    best way to win the use int mod for Shadow Blade argument is with the spell text: "... This magic sword"

    What about Battlesmith 3/Bladesinger 17? This way you would get 9th level spells, so could use foresight to have advantage on all attacks, copy other spells with wish etc. I know it's not perfect as far as ability increases go, but wouldn't the additional spells make up for it?

    • @Jimbob1337
      @Jimbob1337 2 года назад

      As far as I am aware, you can prepare any spells for which you have spell slots. This means if you go art wiz art art wiz art (4/2) you get a feat, and you can get one additional spell on the level up. With the wizard level, you get a level 2 slot, so can grab Aid. This is lovely for our Wizard.
      The downside to this is that our wizard spells come online two levels later than normal. We still gain access to the spell slots at levels 7 (4/3), 9 (4/5), 11 (4/7) 13 (4/9), 15 (4/11), 19 (4/13), & 19 (4/15). As per the rules of multiclassing, we can prepare spells each day up to the level of the highest slot we have.

    Are we certain that you can add your Intelligence mod more than once to an attack? The abilities have different names, but things like resistance do not stack.

    • @junglerat7247
      @junglerat7247 2 года назад

      You definitely can. Resistances have that rule specifically spelled out and the rule for having 2 instances of extra attack, channel divinity, spell effects etc also don't apply. Plus the artificer one is replacing your dex/str mod with your intelligence mod for weapon attacks and damage, while the bladesinger ability is just adding int to damage and is intended to work on top of your dex mod as it is.
