There is no way I can justify $205 for ONE of these. It’s a great tool but this feels like price gouging. I would need 2 of them. I can do so many other things with $410. I love quality tools but I feel like they’re missing the market with that price.

Hi Matt! New to find your channel. I have ordered 3 Viking arms to lift a freezer for service to the leaking drain tube, as visualized a crack in one, as it is not accessible. I will be using 8x6 inch lumber to lower the freezer on, while I reach underneath. Now this may seem crazy, remember that I would have to turn off the freezer, unload the freezer, tilt it on its side, service the broken drain tube, tilt the freezer back up, wait 24 hours with food in ice chests or in a spare freezer, while freon settled, and restart the freezer, and wait for the freezer to cool, and reload the food. I have calculated that the Arms will be placed two (on hard points) on each side toward the front, and one in the back to tri-lift the 800 odd pounds slowly and evenly to 8 inches. Don't know how others would approach this perplexing problem? Sure that others will be surprised at cost, but after this first use, I'm sure the 3 units will continue to pay for themselves. Thanks for demo on reaching max weight!! Thanks for the inspiration Matt!
As a woman, who is equivalent to a 10 year old dog, I can promise these pay for themselves. I had a 500 lb woodstove that I could not find a mover. I finally found a piano mover who would remove it if I could get it onto a furniture mover. I used two Viking Arms and continued to raise and block until I could slide a mover underneath. Second use was getting a refrigerator installed in a tight fit, where the installer thought they would have to cut out tge tile to remove the old. I brought out tge Viking Arms and they were able to lift the old refrigerator over the tile lip. Each use paid for the Viking Arms and it's reassuring to know uou have a tool like this incase things don't go well.
Matt, thanks for sharing the Viking Arm with all of us "imitation expert" home woodworkers. I am planning to build an kitchen island which will have to be partially framed in the garage shop and finished in the kitchen itself. I can see the Viking Arm providing a very beneficial service in keeping the side panels at the right height as I attach them to the interior frame, as well as using them on the refrigerator, stove, dishwasher or anything else that needs the incremental lifting these arms provide while leveling. I was set to buy but damn I got turned off by the price. But wow it looks great! I'm an aircraft mech so you gotta know I appreciate tools. I'm actually out on workers comp right now struggling to recover from two surgeries from a fall at work, and waiting on a third. I trust you that it's a well made tool. Those are like Snap-On or Facom prices. I can't afford those brands either. But I bet they'd be great for disabled people for sure.
Not all knockoffs are bad. I did a lot of hunting until I found some that appeared really well built on Amazon. Got 4 of two different brands for about $60. Are they in the league of the Viking Arm. Of course not! But for the small jobs I need them for, they are invaluable. But it takes quite awhile to find good ones. Love em! My experience with knock off comes from this. In the photography world the best and most highly regarded twin lens reflex cameras (TLR’s) were the Rolleiflex. But it cost thousands of dollars. So I started with the cheap Chinese TLR called PearlRiver. Maybe $75 brand new back in the late 1980’s. Don’t remember. May have been more. Loved the format and but hated the camera. Extremely difficult to move the knobs and other problems. Then I moved up to the Chinese Seagull. Wonderful camera. Brand new was about $90. I used to shoot weddings with them back in the 90’s and got excellent results. I even have one on display here next to my recliner in our living room. Then I got the “better” Japanese Yashica Mat 124-G. Hundreds of dollars. Hated the camera. Knobs were difficult to move and other problems. But it was used and I may have just gotten a lemon. I finally moved up to used Japanese Mamiya C3’s made in the early 1960’s. I finally found my ultimate TLR without spending thousands for the Rolleiflex. So if you really look and study over the different units, you may just find something great without going broke. That being said, I may still get the Viking Arm units one day if my needs change and I need them for bigger projects and I knew I could trust the weight capacity ratings, and how well it’s built. Another thing to remember is that EVERY tool ever made is, was, or will be a knockoff, OR will have a knockoff made of it. Every tool has a first person who invented it. Sometimes the original remains the best, but often a knockoff of the original is eventually made as well or better than the original. This applies to most everything in life that was ever invented. Of course many knockoffs are just junk and are sold to scam the buyer. But patient searching will often pay off.

Hey Matt- more on the counterfeit "Viking Arm" tools on Amazon.....There are pages and pages of these knock-offs on Amazon and the violations of copyright and patent are numerous by many companies and individuals. Amazon was shocked at this! When I showed them the obvious differences in photos and that the counterfeits were not only stealing the name of the tool, but using Maasca's photos of authentic products for their own advertising, the rep escalated the issue. SO- maybe one source of theft is gone, but so many others exist. Should I call them all? :-))
How about reviewing the $20 ones from Ebay. I'm sure these knockoffs don't lift 330 lbs but for most uses like you've used in examples here perhaps they would be fine.
fakes do not have a reliable fixation when lifting. And you can not smoothly lower the load. They are really dangerous - it is checked up on own experience.
I was dead set on ordering a couple of them, until I clicked on the link. I've experienced sticker shock before, but that price really caught me off guard. It's a hard pass for me. It really looks like an awesome tool, but not for that kind of money. Heck I've bought running vehicles for what two of those cost.
Great tool, yes its expensive.....but theres nothing even close in strength on the market, i work alone most of the time, ive used it to hold up gates , level doors , kitchen cabinets & even to lift a washing machine . cost wise its saved getting an extra worker in many times , so looking at it that way it paid for itself in a day , especially at uk labour rates of £250+ per day for a decent tradesperson, great review too , im subscribed .

Contrary to the naysayer, I'm glad you show things that COULD be very helpful to your viewers but you yourself may not purchase. This may be a pricey item, and you may not need it, but you can see by the comments that you have some disabled, solo, and not so muscular workers that could really use it and you brought it to us. Those would definitely come in handy you came up with some really good uses for it. Got my interest up even more, will get me a couple of those to install the drywall in my new shop
After watching your Viking arm clamp review , I went to the page to see the price to buy the item and was surprised . As you spoke , others have the same product on Fb and other pages to a price of 19.99 ,. the manufacture price was quite different . I too will have to wait to purchase a couple of them later in time. But your videos are good and keep up the good subject content.
I bought a set of the ones sold on fb. The ads used pictures of the real viking arms, so i assumed it would at least be a close knockoff. I was way off. After waiting about 6 weeks for them to show up, it was almost comical how bad they were. They are about 6” tall and completely useless due to the alignment being so far off, the lifting and support feet being so small, and the mechanism barely being able to hold any weight.
In the future I hope you’ll do a comparison video of the Viking Arm vs the Irwin unit vs the Stanley unit vs at least one of the better quality knockoffs like the heavy duty (220 kg) unit by Daytona. Thanks!
So I bought a kreg 4 I couldn’t afford the 5 but hopefully when I start making some stuff I will be able to buy the better kreg jig and upgrade my other tools. Ordered some z clips bought a grr-ripper for my table saw as well

I really need this, let me level my pool table, I can’t get underneath it to lift it without lifting the playing surface not just leg. The slate orientation changes the correction needed to level it. This will help allow me to lift up the leg to adjust the slate.
These are awesome, BUT…$200 each! I have no use for cheap tools but these guys are trying to beat Snap-On for over-priced tools! Get the at 1/2 that price and maybe.
I use airbags to lift stuff up to half a ton, they've got bigger ones. It looks like you could make something similar to that viking arm with a caulk gun. The big caulk guns push a lot harder than people realize, and with a mig, a cut off wheel, and some scrap for plates and gussets I think it can be done pretty readily.
There are dozens of similar items in Amazon at 1/8 the price. Granted they are not as good, but definitely will do the job. For around $50, you get a pair already. Of course you get what you pay for. But if you break these to lift/pry a very heavy object, you’re most probably using the wrong tool.
Little disappointed you did not say the price under things I dont like unless I missed it (sorry if I did). I honestly feel, listening to your story, that these would not be something that you would buy if you were not in your current situation. Dont get me wrong I am glad God has put you here and given you the blessings to do great things. Just feel this one was more of a sponsor show the tool video vs a 731 Woodworks video. hi matt great review of a great product,as a finishing carpenter working alone i have found many uses for it. it holds what you want where you want and doesn't complain. when i bought mine i asked the guy in the shop was the 200 euro approx price for a pair but alas no! still would not be without it probably get another one. the only thing is trying to get a screw in the top hinge and adjusting the Viking is abit fiddly a foot operated pedal attachment might be an idea. i still use the air bags for this job subbed Liam

Love all your videos, they have helped me a lot. I have recently gotten into woodworking and I love it. I recently purchased some walnut slabs, 2 are 2x12x10 and 5 are 1x10x10 also picked up a few pieces of hickory. These are all rough cut pieces, I don't have a plainer what could I use to smooth them out? I've purchased some of your plans and I'm going to make the farm style coffee table. Keep up the great videos, can't wait to see more.
I'm guessing the price tag is to cover their marketing costs. I'm constantly seeing social media ads for these. Looks like some paid comments as well. Anyone who is into DIY and watching RUclips videos would see the price tag of these and give a big pass no matter how useful they appear. You basically need 2 (400$) for most tasks you'd really want these for. Even if a 2 pack cost $200, they would still be overpriced. Sorry but I doubt you would buy one of these yourself, no less two.
I'd LOVE to talk to the company head. If these comments aren't 100% indicative of the money lost I can't imagine what else they need. Made in Norway. Perhaps this is a case study why products are made in China as the cost of living in Norway is expensive.
Except you got like 3" between the lift wedge and the ground on a high lift. The viking arm lift plates sit flush with the base and both are 3, 5, or 6mm thick depending on the base plate you put on it. It also has a much smaller lift increment. Idk. Not really an apples to apples comparison. You're spot on about the price though. 200 bucks. . . Yikes. Must be marketing to the Woodpeckers people.

Again, I agree on the cost completely. If you sub contract, you can get tools such as these for free a lot of time. I do custom cabinetry, built ins, and fine furniture; I mostly use hand tools. I got hire a couple months back to build in a breakfast nook into a house someone was flipping. When I finished with that, they asked me if I could do some custom thresholds and doors. I pointed out that I normally don't do doors, but I was confident I could take care of it, but I'd need another person to give me a hand, or to pick up some door clamps to take care of it. I said "okay" and told me to shoot him a receipt. Got myself two free viking arms. Did the same thing back in april or may last year with some cool 4 way clamps made by woodpeckers. I love my Clampzillas. lol
They are expensive, but if you need one, they pay for themselves. I have lifted a 500 lb wood stove and a 48" SubZero refrigerator with two of these. Each use would have cost me more than the cost of the Arms in alternate resources. They've paid for themselves twice.
Come on Matt, would you pay for this yourself? I always loved your down to earth videos, even saying no thanks to a 100$ saw blade over the Diablo blades. This tool is awesome no doubt but I’d not be buying one myself. Stick with reviews you would buy if it were your own money, I have a feeling this on is not one.
honestly .. was 1 of the viking arms damaged after the heavy lift? i'm a cabinet installer and want 2 of them .. if they work out good all the other installers will want them too ;)
You mean I won't have to scour the workshop for combinations of stuff to get to stack up to a certain height when the need arises? Man, I need to get one of these. And because you say two is best... I'm going to have to go with that. This will save so much time and make me work a bit safer some of the time!

I bought a set of the ones sold on fb. The ads used pictures of the real viking arms, so i assumed it would at least be a close knockoff. I was way off. After waiting about 6 weeks for them to show up, it was almost comical how bad they were. They are about 6” tall and completely useless due to the alignment being so far off, the lifting and support feet being so small, and the mechanism barely being able to hold any weight.
What a great tool a extra set of hands in many situations. Matt I was however waiting for you to say “ but wait there’s more” 👊🏻
In the future I hope you’ll do a comparison video of the Viking Arm vs the Irwin unit vs the Stanley unit vs at least one of the better quality knockoffs like the heavy duty (220 kg) unit by Daytona. Thanks!
So I bought a kreg 4 I couldn’t afford the 5 but hopefully when I start making some stuff I will be able to buy the better kreg jig and upgrade my other tools. Ordered some z clips bought a grr-ripper for my table saw as well

It might be nice if they put a scale on the arm of the tool to use it for spacing. Maybe metric on one side & imperial on the opposite?

I really need this, let me level my pool table, I can’t get underneath it to lift it without lifting the playing surface not just leg. The slate orientation changes the correction needed to level it. This will help allow me to lift up the leg to adjust the slate.
Nice to have, but I’ll stick with air bag lifts as they’re far cheaper and will basically work the same as the lift.
These are awesome, BUT…$200 each! I have no use for cheap tools but these guys are trying to beat Snap-On for over-priced tools! Get the at 1/2 that price and maybe.

I use airbags to lift stuff up to half a ton, they've got bigger ones. It looks like you could make something similar to that viking arm with a caulk gun.
The big caulk guns push a lot harder than people realize, and with a mig, a cut off wheel, and some scrap for plates and gussets I think it can be done pretty readily.
There are dozens of similar items in Amazon at 1/8 the price. Granted they are not as good, but definitely will do the job. For around $50, you get a pair already. Of course you get what you pay for. But if you break these to lift/pry a very heavy object, you’re most probably using the wrong tool.

great review of a great product,as a finishing carpenter working alone i have found many uses for it. it holds what you want where you want and doesn't complain. when i bought mine i asked the guy in the shop was the 200 euro approx price for a pair but alas no! still would not be without it probably get another one. the only thing is trying to get a screw in the top hinge and adjusting the Viking is abit fiddly a foot operated pedal attachment might be an idea. i still use the air bags for this job

Love all your videos, they have helped me a lot. I have recently gotten into woodworking and I love it. I recently purchased some walnut slabs, 2 are 2x12x10 and 5 are 1x10x10 also picked up a few pieces of hickory. These are all rough cut pieces, I don't have a plainer what could I use to smooth them out? I've purchased some of your plans and I'm going to make the farm style coffee table. Keep up the great videos, can't wait to see more.

I'm guessing the price tag is to cover their marketing costs. I'm constantly seeing social media ads for these. Looks like some paid comments as well. Anyone who is into DIY and watching RUclips videos would see the price tag of these and give a big pass no matter how useful they appear. You basically need 2 (400$) for most tasks you'd really want these for. Even if a 2 pack cost $200, they would still be overpriced. Sorry but I doubt you would buy one of these yourself, no less two.

It's like a miniature Hi-Lift Jack, except I could buy 2 Hi-lifts for the same price and I could lift a truck...
Except you got like 3" between the lift wedge and the ground on a high lift.
The viking arm lift plates sit flush with the base and both are 3, 5, or 6mm thick depending on the base plate you put on it. It also has a much smaller lift increment.

If you sub contract, you can get tools such as these for free a lot of time. I do custom cabinetry, built ins, and fine furniture; I mostly use hand tools. I got hire a couple months back to build in a breakfast nook into a house someone was flipping. When I finished with that, they asked me if I could do some custom thresholds and doors. I pointed out that I normally don't do doors, but I was confident I could take care of it, but I'd need another person to give me a hand, or to pick up some door clamps to take care of it. I said "okay" and told me to shoot him a receipt. Got myself two free viking arms.
Did the same thing back in april or may last year with some cool 4 way clamps made by woodpeckers. I love my Clampzillas. lol
They are expensive, but if you need one, they pay for themselves. I have lifted a 500 lb wood stove and a 48" SubZero refrigerator with two of these. Each use would have cost me more than the cost of the Arms in alternate resources. They've paid for themselves twice.

Come on Matt, would you pay for this yourself? I always loved your down to earth videos, even saying no thanks to a 100$ saw blade over the Diablo blades. This tool is awesome no doubt but I’d not be buying one myself. Stick with reviews you would buy if it were your own money, I have a feeling this on is not one.
honestly .. was 1 of the viking arms damaged after the heavy lift? i'm a cabinet installer and want 2 of them .. if they work out good all the other installers will want them too ;)

I'm sure it's a useful tool but a lot of these uses are kind of a stretch. A lot of ratcheting clamps can be reverse & used as a spreader.

I have to agree with some of the postings below... way over priced!!!! A 2 pack -$400!!! My guess is you are aware that's it is over priced which is why you seem to avoid discussing the cost. Love your channel, even downloaded some of your plans but this video just left me feeling turned off to their product.
