Episode Notes:
1. All footage from real hardware.
2. None of these hacks remove the slowdown that is so prevalent in certain areas of the game.
3. My most wanted English translation for the Saturn at this point would be Riglord Saga 2. I loved Mystaria/Blazing Heroes on the Saturn and have always wanted to play the sequel. Игры
Thanks for sharing my work. Always good to know your work is appreciated.
kudos to you sir knight. The Saturn deserved more love than it got.
you rock and so does this patch!!!!!!!!!!!
@@YellowandBlack did you extract all the contents and not delete anything? You are the first person to come across this problem.
Is it possible to combine your translation with the 4 mb RAM hack as well? If I gotta pick one, it would be your translation for sure. Thanks for your work translating it.
@@R1SKbreaker no
Saturn translations have been on fire after waiting for so many years. If anyone hasn't played Sakura Wars, SFIII scenarios 2/3/premium and Policenauts, get out there and experience these.
Sakura Wars...... what a classic.
I've played the latest version of Shining Force 3, but I had no Idea about Sakura Wars.
Don't forget Grandia and Lunar: SSS!
@@OriginalName90 Are they that much better than the PS1 versions? I loved those. Iwadare is bae.
How do you even play them off OG hardware and OG disc? It's not like you can mod a Saturn like a DC or Xbox.
One of the GREATEST Soundtracks and Games of ALL TIME.
Damn I gotta hear and play it. Super castlevania 4 for Snes is my fav
@@XTRABIG Yeah, that is my second favorite one. The Castlevania series ALWAYS has had great music. I wish Konami hadn't turned into the whores they are now. They have a gold mind in great IPs and they are doing NOTHING with them. Especially, Castlevania.
@@kahnsealable sad turn of events for Konami. They lost their way somewhere and I wish a new generation of programmers and developers would pick up the mantle. Notable mention to Axelay!!
Couldn't agree more although I prefer the PSX version to this one.
@@kahnsealable Rumor has it their ran by Yakuza gangsters that just want to exploit the *200 billion dollar* Japanese pachinko industry. Rather or not gangsters are involved, exploiting a 200 billion dollar industry by slapping a logo on a machine relatively cheap to make makes sense. It's just really sad.
Kudos to these guys and everyone working on English patches for the rest of us. If not for them, I would have never experienced the awesomeness that is Langrisser 2 on the Genesis.
Hopefully we'll get translations of Langrisser III-V on the Saturn, one can hope!
Oh god, this! So much this!
Agreed. That’s one of the absolute best games made for the Genesis!
Sir you're killing it, genuinely look forward to each video.
Yup he in beast mode. Can we get a final fight snes vs final fight cd comparison was snes really that bad negating fact its 1 player cuz I'm 1 player 😆 is it bad port?
Your channel is criminally underrated and I don't know if you will see this but keep up the work I know you will do well.
More Sega Saturn translations are awesome! I didn’t have a Saturn when I was a kid but now I find that I love the machine and library! Great work!
Just started collecting for the saturn have been binge watching all your videos keep up the good work!
WOW! This is fucking amazing! I used to play the shit out of it in Japanese but this is great news! Playing as Maria in this version and having all those exclusive still to this day dungeons makes it so worth playing.
Still wish we'd get those extras from this version in a finally definitive version of SotN.
Konami pretends like the Saturn game doesn't exist.
I had hopes for the rondo psp release since it had Maria. 🤷🏻♀️
@@SegaLordX it's a shame, really. Supposedly the reason I read so long ago is they lost the code and/or it's hard to implement in other versions of the game.
@@SegaLordX Konami pretends like nothing but Pachinko exists anymore.
Same with Mega Man 8! All ports are the Playstation version...
One of my favourite games on the Saturn was Shining Force 3, and I was so gutted when I found out that parts 2 and 3 where Japan only. So imagine my joy a few years ago when I found someone had done an English patch for them.
Oh hey I’m also beta testing this release. Fun to see more people learning about this patch
@Chanh John Nguyen, I wonder if the monsters, bosses, and new areas will also get English translated names? I also wonder if people will do a literal translation of the Japanese dialogue, go the PSP and more modern system route, or make a combination of all three sources of dialogue for a more consistent, coherent, and overall better dialogue?
This was a fantastic video and awesome job on the callouts!!!!!
A fusion between the improved patch using the 4MB Ram card and the english patch would be amazing
Who else is putting out as many quality videos as SLX? He always seems to make videos about the games and systems you were wondering about. Props.
Always a pleasure to watch your video with crystal clear informations:)
I actually just started playing this a few days ago on my original Saturn using a flashed AR cart. I applaud the work that went into it and am having a great time -- nearly done with an Alucard run.
I love the Saturn patching community and look forward to supporting and enjoying their work in the future. My fingers are crossed for a Tokimeki Memorial: Forever with You translation.
Also, great content as always. Keep it up. :)
Great stuff! Just played SOTN for PSX yesterday! Brilliant timing!!!
I've been waiting for a long time for an English translation of this. Good to see.
This is going straight into my MODE. Thank you Lord X!!
Thank you for covering this SLX!
This brings me back!☺ excellent video sir!👍
This is awesome. Great video
Omg so awesome! SOTN remains one of the greatest games I've ever played, it never gets old.
This awesome! I need it! I also didn’t know that a translation for Grandia existed! I’ve wanted that for years!
Omg omg omg omg i cant wait to be done working today to try this. I’ve always wanted to play through the Saturn version! This is huge news. Grandia, now this!
I REALLY WANT TO THANK YOU for the link to get the script!
Another good reason to replay this game again!
Thanks for adding Princess Crown footage to this. It's up there with Tales of Rebirth as the games I most want to play translations of.
Busiest man on RUclips! Love the vids brother
I love you. Thank you so much for letting me know about this. Gonna have to give this another go now. You and the creators.
Wow, I had no idea anyone ever made this, but I've been waiting so long for this to happen! Thanks for letting us know! :o
I love your "Sega documentaries". Sega Lord X - You are My Hero !!!
Would love to see the same type of video for the Grandia, Dragon Force 2 and Shining Force 3 Scenarios translations.
Can we please get more +1s on this comment? A channel this large could really help spread the word.
As you said, props to these dedicated fans. I've only recently played Policenauts translated for the Playstation and I'm blown away. These guys are amazing.
The English dub of Bulk Slash was incredible! I hope we get a lot more games translated in the future. Sega Lord X videos hit the nail on the head!
Wow! I had no idea there is English translation! Thanks for a good news!
I was having my dinner and when I saw this video of Symphony of the Night, I just swallow the food to watch it. By the way, that song on the beginning of the video, is for sure top 5 best video games soundtrack ever made.
Many thanks Sega Lord X ♥
I love the Intro to your videos lol
Very cool they released this and i bought a physical copy of this for my Saturn thst looks almost original.
I wish they'd just release an official version of this game with all the content from the Saturn version - no matter how bad or unfinished the new areas may seem. The fans already did all the legwork for them even.
Check out the one on PSP
I've unlocked and finished it if you mean the one included in the Dracula X Chronicles. It doesn't have the unfinished areas from the Saturn version. You can sort of backdash your way into the entrance of one of the areas at the very start as Alucard but it only leads to a place with a save point and a dead end.
@@theovonskeletor3709 , the one on the PSP lacks the new enemies and areas and Maria has a completely different, as well as, sadly, toned down move set.
Great review!!
Good stuff mate.
Very glad to hear this! Hoping to get an ode eventually for Saturn I just put in a FRAM (or whatever it's called) mod! C:
Thank you for share bro😍
Thanks a lot for such a valuable information Sega Lord X! And huge thanks to the tallanted programmers for such a hell work they've done!)
To play Symphony of the night in Japanese is to hard even for such a nerd like me)) So I'm very happy that this patch exists!)
That's totally rad, dude!
This is excellent!
This is pretty damn cool.
Epic video. I hope to see all SMT games translated!!!
Even with all technical problems this was always still a fun port to play for me. Currently just went threw this game with the current English patch and it was pretty awesome!
Sega Lord has such a cool voice
Such a great game. Excited to try the Saturn version now.
You're my favorite gaming RUclipsr. As a long time gamer and retro game collector myself, I was inspired to get my Saturn repaired and modded to play imports all because of your videos and passion. I recently got an imported Saturn Bomberman copy to play because the American version is so damn expensive. My Sega collection across all systems is much more diverse now
Happy to help my friend. Glad to see your Sega libraries have improved.
@@SegaLordX thank you
I have played multi versions of this game except this one the Saturn has great games that were only in Japan can’t wait for more English patch’s thanks for bringing it up
I'm a little surprised you didn't talk more about the additional areas.
This is amazing.
It's amazing what the retro community is capable of doing in this day and age. The Saturn, Genesis, PC Engine, Dreamcast, the Neo Geo and more have had some fantastic translations, hacks and even completely new games made from the ground up for these awesome consoles. It makes playing new games on old consoles so much more fun. A ton of work does go into these projects whether its translations, new games or ports from other consoles like what's been happening with the Atomiswave. We definitely need to support these guys.
I love these fan projects.
Great Video
Nice video
That ending monolog was great i watched this video and im like why not just buy the playstation version its amazing.
But after hearing sega lords plee i was like yes with a huge vast collection of games untranslated i love the heart of these die hard fans.
Great piece my friend.
i wish more developers used the saturn’s full power, because it is a powerful piece of hardware.
That's cool they did that, I played and beat the fan translation of policenauts on my saturn. Cool stuff
Time to dust off my saturn and give this translation a shot
0:22 that Maria drawing on the magazine cover infuriated me then, it infuriated me now 😂
Wow I had no idea this was ever available for the Saturn. Great Video! Btw did you ever consider making a video about Beyond Oasis/Story of Thor or the sequel Legend of Oasis? Those games are hidden gems that deserve more attention
I mean c'mon.. one of the greatest games of all time
I mean... okay.
I consider it a must play game for just about every gamer. And anyone wanting to get into anything more than Madden style games. The music alone is worth the price of paid admission.
Great work! Best game every all! !!!
My local EB had this game plus an adapter cart for Saturn. I loved this game so much on Playstation that I had to get it for my Saturn as well. Definitely enjoyed the extra content, even if I couldn't completely understand what was going on.
You're Sega Lord X. And I will catch you next time.
Makes me want to try it. Didn't know the Saturn edition had extras
Still got that mag. Awesome.
Ahh sega saturn magazine... i may weirdly of had to sell my entire collection - but still have those sega saturn mags and that exact one too. Long live Richard leadbetter
Great video! You forget to say that before the English patch there was a Portuguese patch 😉. I speak French, Portuguese, English and Japanese so I taught it was a great patch either in Portuguese 😊
I remember reading through that issue of Sega Saturn Magazine between class at college. Great mag. Used to sit there and droll over the Saturn's awesome 2d power - was clearly in the minority at the time. Got them all again now on my iPad.
THE best castlevania ever.
Mentioning the Grandia translation at the end; I got a copy of that recently and it loaded up the save from the Japanese version and I'm already at the end of the game. Yes, I did get that far with the original Saturn Grandia. It helped me in my ongoing struggle to learn how to read Japanese. I figured it was easier for me to try and learn it than to have everything translated. That, and the Japanese Tales of games on the Playstation are cheap enough that I already bought them.
Well, looks like I have another reason to back and play this masterpiece again.
Something else worth mentioning about the translation. The pause screen has been redone in 240p like the rest of the game, so the saturn no longer switches resolutions everytime you go into the menu, making it load faster. And a godsend for anyone playing through a Framemeister as it recalibrates with resolution switches.
As far as future projects go, I'd like to see someone figure out how to switch on the Saturn's 480p mode, which Sega did once in a demo, and maybe a 480i game like Virtua Fighter 2 can work with it.
Thanks to you i discover sega Saturn ,while i was living in japan,i bought a lot of games,i got Radiant silvergun, wao i thought a lot because It was pretty expensive.but i got It....just i forgot this game ...Damm...i was being sold in a small store clóse to my apartment...hehe...thanks again....God bless you
Oh my!!!!
Richter's o.g look used for the chat box. Awesome sauce.....!
Cool! NW I'll play this game! I was going to play the Brazilian portuguese version which is already out for 2 years but I prefer in English
Great video as always, man. Do you think you would ever be interested in doing a video about the various Tenchi Muyo games released on the Saturn?
I may get it in a video somewhere, but I have no special interest in the series.
@@SegaLordX That's fair. I appreciate the response.
"What is a man? A miserable pile of secrets!" =)
Have at you!
Finally!!!
I’ve been enjoying this release via the Satiator!
v.102 has just been released! This is the first update that also changes some gameplay and visual things! The patch creator has stated that he will take a break from this game in the foreseeable future to work on other translations, but sometime in the future he will focus on improving map functionality and the slowdown that occurs in the game!
Honestly right now im on the fence wether or not to play this version or the PS1 original... I don't own a PS1 right now so that's another cost...I do own a Saturn (and its modded...). Hard decision because with these fixes the game would be quite a bit better than it used to be. Although the pixel stretching and transparency effects are still an issue, but its hard for me to know if they would really bother me or not..
Would love to see you do a review of policenauts heard good things about it
Woah Bulk Slash looks awesome
Clicked for the ost!
No one really talks about mini consoles anymore, but if Sega ever makes a "Saturn Mini", Castlevania SotN should be on the list of games for it.
It is a old dream come true. Beat one of my favorite games of all time on a SEGA console!!! Thanks for everyone involved. My top translations wish lists for Saturn and Dreamcast:
Saturn: Grandia (it's almost done, right?), Riglord Saga 2, Bulk Slash, Time Commando, Lunar Series, Shinrei Jusatsushi Taroumaru, Gun Griffon 2 and
MANY MORE (specially all the shumps)!
Dreamcast: Rent a Hero no1, Undercover, Blue Stinger (original Japanese version, with cinematic cameras among other differences), Sakura Taisen complete box set (1, 2, 3 and 4)!, Hundred Swords, SEGAGAGA and MANY MORE (Specially all the shmups).
Maybe you mentioned it and I missed it, but did they finally manage to combine the translation and the performance (4MB cart) patches? I remember seeing some videos of this game running with the extra memory and the slowdown was greatly reduced.
It’s placebo. The 4MB hack doesn’t work
@@chanhjohnnguyen1867 , then make it work!
@@chanhjohnnguyen1867 but I have actually seen footage of that hack and the performance difference are very clear. Most of the annoying slowmo was gone.
Hey i'have these magnificent piece of cult in my sega saturn japanese, it's wonderful AND magnificent, the aditional characters, familiars AND stages, it's one touch of mágic AND gold, greetings from Mexico 😃👌
Presagiador, Eric esto es otro exito gracias a los fans. SEGA SATAN !😈
FINALLY ! MY MODDED SATURN HAVE WAITED FOR YEARS !
I wish alot more games like this were under production.
I originally played this on the Sega Saturn as well. I got it used for a good deal at a local video game importer back in 2001. It's definitely one of my all time favorite games and harbors great memories for me. I prefer the Japanese voices as they sound a lot cooler and not so cheesy. I also enjoyed the extra areas and being able to play as other characters too but it definitely looks and plays better on the PS1 (although I preferred the Saturn controller for 2D games a lot more than the PS1 controller).
