Clayton, I had no idea you were an OG gamer; I commend your awesome review of SOTN. Another gem of a game in the Castlevania series is Super Castlevania IV for the Super Nintendo. I personally thought that was an equally enjoyable Castlevania game as well. Give it a try if you haven't already.
I am 54 and been playing games since about 1975… Space Invaders, Boot Hill and Tank Battle… currently drowning in a backlog of hundreds of games on Switch and Xbox… great to see a mature gamer community joining you Clayton.
@@LFC_since1970Im 56, these young guys missed out on the arcades and hell I remember even before arcades when we had the sit down 2 player pong at Pizza Hut lol good times, great time to be a kid
The original voice acting/actors is far more endearing (yet only slightly less cheesy.) Original Symphony of the Night is superior to the Requiem version. I'd only buy Requiem so I could play Rondo of Blood.
Castlevania is one of my absolute favorite game franchises. I go back and replay SoTN every couple years. It's fun to play as Ritcher or Maria if you've beaten the game once already. Such a classic.
So glad you got to play this with minimal spoilers, it is such a joy, especially experimenting and discovering with all the weapons and abilities available. Heck, I did another playthrough of it a few weeks ago and found new equipment I'd never tried before! Also "My least favorite enemy is the Fleaman" yep, you're a 100% real Castlevania fan now xD
I played for the first time Rondo of Blood and Symphony on the night back to back in late 2019 and it was an amazing experience, I couldn't put the controller down until I finished. I felt very proud and accomplished when I completed 100% Symphony of the Night. I also did it on PS4 with the Requiem Collection you suggested, great video!
Dude, you're only just playing this NOW? Oh, man. SotN is the absolute pinnacle of aesthetic, presentation, features and plain FUN. I only tried it when I was in my teens after it had been out for a few years, but I never imagined Castlevania on a big ol' map. Over time, it eventually got to be my all-time favorite video game of all time. Rando seeds keep it saucy. Cheers.
Love the channel, honestly thrilled to see this side of you, non Redacted 😉 SOTN was way ahead of its time and has aged like fine wine. Side note also available on Android and I believe IOS, best played with a controller
My mother bought me Simon's quest (castelvania 2) on the nes as a kid. I think it was the hardest game I ever played, I couldn't understand where to go or what to do, it was so frustrating !!! and we had no access to nintendo power in Belgium at the time and no internet of course so that game was a curse to me ! because of it I never tried any other Castelvania after that I was too scared ... maybe now is a good time to make peace with the franchise ! Thanks for a great video again Clayton !
Hey Clayton I loved this game so much I beat the secret versions of it and had them saved on a memory card on my old PS2. I recently saw it was in the PS store and of course I bought it and downloaded it and it is just as good as I remember it. Always told everyone that this game was the best Castlevania of the franchise.
I remember required reading lists in high school but there needs to be a required gaming list as well. Symphony of the Night and Shadow of the Colossus should be at the very top of that list.
Schmoo, the little ghost at the library drops the Crissaegrim , the best weapon in the game wich is a one handed sword , however it is an extreme rare drop so wearing aaccesories to raise LUCK definitely helps , This sword is ideal for grinding other items or for finish the game without much difficulty, personally I only use it to grind other items since otherwise the game becomes very easy . If you are a collector and want all the weapons and shields, you definitely need this sword to speed up the grinding process
Wow! Clayton! I did not know! Castlevania SOTN is one of my all time favorite games, and hearing your detailed perspective about this cult classic makes me want to play the whole game all over again! I hope you don't stop reviewing classic video games. I'm interested to see what else you'll review. As for the acting, it's not as bad as Resident Evil 🤣
I was 16 when this came out, still one of my favorites!! Been watching Redacted for years, just discovering now that you have a gaming channel! mind blown.
It's funny, I bought this when it first came out and I wasn't into it, so I ended up bringing it back to the store. Not sure what I was thinking back in 1997... maybe I was just ready to move on from platformers to 3D polygon games. I recently got back into the game via the Duckstation emulator, and man oh man, I got hooked. What a terrific and nostalgic game.
My first game on Ps1.. castlevania is my favorite game line. The Ps3 Lords of shadow 1 and 2 are has a great story and its narrated by Patrick Stewart. Excellent story of the roots and creation of Dracula and Belmonts.
Probably my favorite game of all time. I own it on every system it's available on and I I've replayed it more times than I can count. The psp version is great for those who want the portable experience, and it looks awesome on smaller screens. I still have my disc based PS1 copy somewhere too

They use an exploit early. They strip Alucard and purposely get hit. Because they strip his gear, the hit crits and has a pretty extreme knockback. They use the knockback to fly through the room where Death steals all of Alucard's gear.

I don't normally play videogames as an adult. I gave it up in my late teens. But every few years I try to play some games. I do watch gaming content, though. Nostalgia and all. The PSX is my favourite console. This year I decided to play games again. I beat a few, including Symphony of the Night. I consider certain games to be beautiful works of Art. Breath of Fire IV, Resident Evil (GameCube), Super Metroid, Final Fantasy IX, Silent Hill, Castlevania Rondo of Blood, to name a few. Symphony of the Night is a work of Art. I enjoyed it immensely. My only complain is that the special moves and the Crissaegrim are game breakers.
We had a problem with parasite eve and I played to where we were stuck and some guys told him he's lucky to have a girlfriend that actually plays. It's very hard to get someone that plays. I played on PS. It's a very hard game to get ahold of. Have you tried Castlevania lament of innocence
For anyone who loved this game, also try Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night which is a spiritual successor made by the same lead developer, Koji Igarashi. It even has a wink and a nod version of Alucard, with a different name of course, you can find in the castle. So many similar eater eggs. Be aware the Switch version has slowdown issues though as this game uses Unreal Engine 4. Anyways, he was so upset Konami never allowed him to make more Metroidvania games for consoles, he left and created his own company to do just that. He also made some handheld Metroidvania games at Konami for the Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS, if you're looking for even more games like this he made.
