Another vote for mama. And shame on you for doubting her. 😁
Never seen anyone work as hard as Matt! Looking good
Matt you should have put you mounts in the wet concrete and tied them to you rebar would have made your life easier and saved you some time. If you put the bolts in with the head down you could have used nuts to level your mounts
Matt, I’m a viewer of your channel and also a DIYer who resides here in Salinas PR. Watching your videos I noticed that you often use pre-mixed cement bags which are very expensive. If you visit your local Ferreteria, buy 4 meters of sand and 4 meters of gravel(separated), dump them near your construction site next to each other, buy the Portland Cement “Cemento Ponce or San Juan” add 12 shovels of Sand and 17 of gravel to ONE cement bag, your cement will go far and so will your $$$$. Cuídense
Best advice ever! We did our entire build that way.
I believe he started with that method on 'the wall'. Don't recall why he switched. My guess would be a time saver. Dump in a bag, hose, pour, repeat. 👌And no shoveling.
@@oregon1232 If he wanted to save time and effort he could have just used foundation screws.
I like to use the 1 2 3 method 1 shovel cement, 2 shovels sand, and 3 shovels of gravel...
He is definitely on to something there! I did the same thing a few years back and it works great! Great idea, I totally forgot about that trick!!!
Fun Facts - The larger the surface area of a footing, the larger the load it will carry. Meaning a 2'deepx2'x2' footing will not carry a much larger load than a 1'deepx2'x2'... But a 1' foot deep footing that is 3'x3' will carry a much heavier load. Plus you should have set your bolts in the wet concrete, even better would have been the post brackets then you could do a nice broom finish around the bracket and edged the footing.
steve, el aprende de sus errores ; yo espero... @17:30 Embustero
Surface area concept. Interesting. Seems that would work for downward load, but sideways? From wind? Wouldn't depth then come in handy?
@@oregon1232 The major unexpected problem of wind is lifting force. Thanks fr mentioning the bolts. My thought exactly.
@@oregon1232 No matter what you did to the footing sideways load would be a problem at this point due to the way the post will be connected to the pier pad. An engineered solutions such as a shear wall could be added to deal with these critical areas, Shear walls fight wind Shear up lift and side loads. Of course Shear Straps should have been placed in the pier pads to connect to the post to help with lift problems.
Two things drive this show. Your personalities and Kristins' filmmaking excellence.
Well mom's right😂, but isn't she always 😊. Glad you're both safe❤
I had my doubts that your land based videos would be as watchable as your maritime adventures. I was wrong. Keep up the great content!
You can use concrete epoxy and regular all thread for hurricane anchors. All thread can be cut to lenght and is much cheaper than wedge anchor bolts. If Florida with American high regulations say its safe then you will be fine. Don't forget to put the nut on before each cut on all thread. The nut will chace the threads where you cut it.
As much as I love you guys transforming your property; I love watching the cats interfere
Incredibly entertaining aren't they!! Find myself waiting/watching for their antics. Well cared for, healthy & happy pets!
Im glad you got that cement mixer. Its going to be a life saver
Matt: I'm 73 years old with COPD. My days of working all day are over, yet you keep the spirit alive. Love the pumpkin patch, everything you touch turns into gold.
God Bless you. ❤❤
"Wet Dreams and Pergolas" that's a country song right there
When I was a satellite dish installer for both big dishes and small my business slogan was I do the dishes...
Pro tip. “How to build stackable sawhorses”. They will last you forever and you will be wondering how you did it without them. It’s literally the first thing we did at every new build site. You can then join 2-3 old 2x8s to make a workbench.
You do good work Matt but you gotta get up off the ground. It’s important.
I agree with this. Save your back for when you are lifting beams and framing.
...and WAY safer! You can't build your house if you're dead.
Yea.... git ur arse off the ground............ lol
Mom's right. BTW, my wife & I tune in every week. Our favorite channel on RUclips!
I think it went well south of you. I was definitely watching and praying for you guys. Your Mom says pergola the way I’ve always heard it said.😆😂
In Australia. You would be correct saying Pergola Matt.😀😀
You were right , Matt. Big lag bolts will be just fine. I think you're doing a great job! Love this channel!!
You guys are great! Thanks for sharing your DIY builds and journey. Its really fun to watch. Great work and projects with all that greenery in the background. - Las Vegas, NV fan.
Hey!!! That’s a ton of work. It’s so cool to see you go from building a boat to building a home.
Mostly just commenting in case it helps you with RUclips. I know this video is a week late because of RUclips issues or something.
Hey !!!! I been waiting for Ya'LL to drop a new video .... I quess the Storm didn't hit you .... great news
Wow, Progress progress, You both deserve a break, Look at good, Love To watch the cats run around. Thanks, folks and look forward to you next Sunday. And god bless you.❤❤❤
next time you’re doing footings, you put rebar into the footings. Make sure the rebar doesn’t hit the dirt. Make sure the concrete is completely around all the rebar at least by 2 inches or more.
Hope all goes well with the boat!
I really look forward to seeing you both i think you are both very much in love hope it stays like that forever for you ❤
I love the cats' supervising skills; ensuring Uncle Mattie's work was done effectively. 🤣🤣🤣
Un saludito de corazón, desde San Juan, a mi gente de "Sailing Good, Bad, and Ugly." ✌
LOL... Watching you dig the holes and really getting a kick out of your hillbilly wheelbarrows there Matt.
Shame, that's a lot of work for one person. Take it at a slower pace Matt. You're not a machine, and even machines break. You are a such hard worker. 🎉❤
If you want to reduce big on the cost of concrete, order a heap of sand, a heap of gravel and the amount of portland cement you need for each job.
With a tarp under and over the sand as well as for the gravel, it will be there for a few years.
Make the concrete in a ratio of 1-2-3 cement-gravel-sand in volume.👴🤓
Love the Wet Dream as I also built Gunite pools for people :))
Kristen you are glowing. I'm super happy for the BOTH OF YOU ! Your homestead is looking beautiful so proud of the two of you. Priceless to watch that iguana eating from Matt's hand. ❤❤
Thanks a lot gang. We got a week of wind and rain as Hurricane Beryl came closer to us here in Costa Rica than to you in Puerto Rico. Looks good, Matt and your lag bolts should be fine. Good kitty, Pantera, get 'em when they pop out of the ground!
Mothers are always right Matt. Even when they're wrong they're right.🤔🤔🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂
what a simp
Moms right
Matt, I am impressed with your determination to build and fix things.
Great filming! You're storytelling is really fantastic! Thanks guys 😃
Mama was right as she always is.
Mama all the way! You should know she knows best 😉
i bought rhe pumpkin you told us about the wife and grandkid's love them thanks kristen for the tip
Hope the hurricane spared you all. I understand there is a real time delay in these videos.
Lag bolts are just fine. Did mine with them and still strong in tornado country 20 years later.
5/8"x5" RAWL wedge anchor, which is just a lag bolt for concrete. That's what they should have.
4/7/24 - Matt's work ethic amazes me ! Hope the storm misses you guys!
Hi Matt. Fun job. Just a tip from and old engineer. To save time and some money you can add “plums” to the footings. Basically they are just large clean rocks that you place in the concrete as you go to make it go further. And yes the word plum is an old engineering term that i learnt off my father. Something fort the future. A rag bolts should be fine, diagonal braces more important. Cheers
You guys are still the best! Great work and attitudes! Matt... 'threw bolting' (bolt all the way thru with washers and nut) would be much better than lag bolts.
Max and Occy from youtube send their kindest regards Kristen and Matt.
This is not max, ?
I look forward and really enjoy your video's! Thank You for sharing your adventures!
My favourite country song play on words as you see your car wheel pass you on a windy road. " YOU took a fine time to leave me loose wheel" from Kenny Rogers . You took a fine time to leave me Lucille lol❤ 😂
Matt, your diligence, pride and hardwork you put in is what will make your custom home last lifetimes… for someone without a construction background you’re killing it. Oh, and the ole lady as architect slash foreman has a lot to do with it!! You Go y’all !
Matt you're translation is right in Australia for pergola.
I am so proud to have met you in isleta. And also feel and enjoy al your accomplishment. When I return to pr. Diner on me in your town.
All the best guys😀😀
Why pumpkins? Just for halloween or you like eating pumpkins? What about food like potatoes and green beans, lettuce etc. Hows the boat? Is it all moldy and weird?
Lol....😂😂😂.. Mom was right!....Too funny
Matt and Kristin, how is DD doing in with all this weather. I worry about her. Matt, you still are a machine or you would not have that beautiful lady. You are right about country music going down hill, it went so far down it is in the septic tank. Kristin why so I feel more excited than you? LOL. Matt please wear a mask while mixing that concrete. Kristin Jump on him for not being safe. There is only one Matt in the world. Lets keep him in good health. You answered my question about DD. She is a good boat. Praying hard for you two and the DD. Lots of love from the great Republic of Texas. God bless you two in all things.
Now you two need to save more money by starting versus compost piles just with all the FREE fallen / dead debris and cuttings from the natural surroundings. Plus it cleans up the property. Just don’t forget to stir it up once a month to oxygenate the soil. Great for an all in one 15 inch deep compost pit garden
Mom is right! Lag Bolts will be just fine!
Your mom is correct! Now and always!
Matt your comment on go Big or go Home. What's worked well for me is " Go Small and stay Home" Thank's for the great content.Stephen Nagy
Prayers said. Good job on concrete slabs. Can't wait to see you're next project.
Matt "I gave people wet dreams"
Kristen rolls eyes then comments "you feel so firm"
🤣🤣
#1 Rule in Life - Everything you own actually owns you. (buy/build/insure/maintenance, etc.)
I kept waiting for you to insert threaded rods or straps into your piers to attach your posts to. Waiting to see how you do that.
You,'re not afraid of labor, I'll give that for sure!
Looking good
Love your shirt look Kristen ❤. Last Sunday wasn’t the same without you two. So glad you’re back and doing well.
another dude watching just for the possible boob shots......lol
My goats ran off, and my cats won't play. My punkins done died, its been rain'n all day. My womans up in town with some guy named Chico, so I'm drink'n rum in the holler down in Puerto Rico. DD Cash
LOL
Always listen to Momma, she's correct. Now lets eat perogies!
Another great video Matt and Kirsten. I sure wish I were there to offer my opinions on building the roof. But I'm not and I'm sure you'll do just fine. I'm so happy for you both. I pray for your home and boat both during this hurricane. Come what you can and tie things to the trees if you have to. You'll do great. Love you both. Hugs, Myk
We call that a pole barn.
I thought mama was right but actually, I asked google for the correct pronunciation & was confirmed that you’re right Matt. We missed y’all last week, glad y’all are back ♥️🙏
Google is wrong about everything, most of all ,politics.
Check your Google settings…..
Google is an idiot...and wrong...and yes, about most everything!!! 😂
No, that's not correct.
All two were right in there own way😂
Lap joints are relatively easy to do and give a lot more strength than just bolting timbers together.. The shoulder of the lap joint on a post supports the weight of a beam, the both through the overlap just holds the beam in the joint.
Mama is ALWAYS right🎉
Moms are always right. Dang😊
Matt I understand about that "Seed" thang~!~~ HAHAHAHA - I think we need Matt to expound on that "Seed" thing that made me laugh~~ Great work you two - I been following you since your boat - I am home envious - love the garden & the farm - keep it going - its hard work but one day you will sit back and enjoy it! Beautiful property
Time to build a covered workshop with a tool bench! 👍
Momma knows best, she is right.
Your mama is right. The bolts will work just fine, if you have that big of a hurricane you post will be the least of your worries.
Good luck
Good morning Christina how you guys doing today hope everybody's having a wonderful day keep up the good work and have fun out there and see how to the animals❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
You two are the hardest working people on the internet.
"You two" ...you mean Matt?
Do you know what you get when you play a country song backwards? You get your truck back, your wife back, and your trailer back.
I think you should have set your L-bolt anchors in the footings before the concrete sets.
Was thinking the same thing myself.
Yep... "I think you should have set your L-bolt anchors in the footings before the concrete sets.
"
Matt: How do you keep it up? You are a workhorse!
Momma is always right
😂😂😂
Moms are always right. You move forward anyway
thru bolts with nuts, i had 50mph wind rip lag screws out like toothpicks. property is looking really good, keep up the great vids
Ok seeing this after hurricaine looks like it pretty much missed you .We will see next video oh and plantain pumpkin stew with some kind greens and chicken fish whatever your 2 will be eating off the land with 1/2 your food products eggs chickens goats fruit wow .Matt thats a heck of alot a work your doing for your familys future.Kristen is a good wife and pulls right in there with work and beautiful ladytoo
Thank You, Sir. Very helpful
Who else loves the way Kristen looks at Old Uncle Matty? Such ❤️ love!
I wish I had that. You both are so blessed
Matt, you’re probably tired of people calling you a stud eh?
So I won’t say it 😁 Keep up the great work and follow the Directors directions too! She’s a keeper !!
Glad Beryl spared you.
Invest in a ibc code book, or find an outdate pdf one online, as most things in it do not change with each version, it helps with selection of materials for zones aka high wind hurricane etc. Improved interaction between you two is appreciated as we watch to see you carismatic folks, ty for sharing...
Sue hope you make it thought the hurricane ok Matt you are hard worker well done 👍👋🇨🇦
Matt! You still young! You funny!lol enjoy watching you and your sweet wife
wow and I thought I liked watching sailing
Best wishes for the DD! Be safe!
I like the way the cat got on the delivery immediately to make sure you did it right! For moving gravel and gardening, don't you have a rake? I'm surprised your post brackets weren't connected deeply into the cement when you poured and leveled it. Good luck with all the storms this season! One Love!
That digging looks super easy compared to NY. No frost and no need to go down 4 feet. Also, no boulders or ledge. I can build a rock wall from the hole dug to plant a shrub. ;)
Beryl came in here on the Gulf Coast and tore our butts up ! I'm 35 minutes North of Galveston Bay.yall stay safe.
It’s not a country song if you leave out momma, rain, trucks, trains, and getting drunk. 🤣
I build an outdoor kitchen my corners were 2x2x4 foot deep with 12x12 inch square posts.the smallest timber a used was 4x6 rough cut for the roof. Wood pegged together.
In your Raised beds, add plastic liner onto the inside walls, not the bottom though. To prevent the soil to be against the inner walls. Or else the wood will rot much much faster. This is by experience, had to redo my boxes after a couple of years. Unnecessary expenses to redo my boxes.
Love the trash can dump truck!!
More excellent, excellent jungle foliage drone shots .
More cats running crazy and lazing around.
What more could you want?
Oh, and Matt working under the (smart) canopy.
Whose idea was that, and, yes, a good joke.
No hurricanes allowed by your boat.
Best of luck!
Love the white cat boss marking sure that job is done right
