Have you thought about jacking up the camper and putting a couple of tiers of 8x8 pieces under the axels to keep the tires off the ground? May help save the tires and avoid flat spots. Only need a inch or so off the ground. Just a thought. 🙂 Love you guys!!
Please "Kristien" don't even let Mighty Matt *try* to go up that ladder with a 225-250 pound beam on his shoulder! Yes he's strong, but if he gets hurt, both of your futures could be in jeopardy. Matt you're a hardworking fartsmeller, i mean smartfeller, & this is the time to stay safe for "Kristien's" Good, Matty Junior's Good, & your own Good. 🙏🦉 🏞️
“Fart-smeller”. I haven’t heard that term since my dad passed away in 2020. He used to say that all the time, as a running joke in the family. Thank you for the smile today. It came at the perfect time. 😂
Matt last week in America, Kubota put a $17,000 discount on the tractor you need with a front end loader, box blade, & maybe the bush hog grass cutter. Dear Santa 😂🙏🏼✌️
Sometimes you kill me lol. You could have used a laser level or scope at the base of each post bracket and cut them before you put them up. You always seem to want to do things the hard way LOL
This is especially true when the wind speed increases and you start to experience significant lateral forces from the wind blowing against the roof. Some gussets between the top and verticle beams would be a good thing maybe.
Nice job guys! It coming together. Matt, don't push it too hard--a back injury will haunt you for the rest of your life. Trust me, I speak from experience as a tradesman myself. A couple tips: Any decorative roofs look better if you run the beams past the end posts by 1'-2' and cut a profile on the end of the beam. You should also run the rafters past the beams by 2'. Precut your beams based on the measurements of the posts at the base since they are fixed in place and will not move. If you don't trust you tape measure, lay the beam at the base of the posts and mark/cut them. If you keep the measurements between the base of the posts the same as the top of the posts, then once you plumb one post all the others will be plumb.
8 X 8s on a roof?! I’m in the Northeast where there’s a ton of snow, and they don’t use 8 X 8s in the basement to hold up a two story house 😮 They sister three 2 X 6s for the main beam.
Outstanding video, troops. Love the cat update. Here in Costa Rica, we bought one Persian gata, Missy Mariposa, 12 years ago, then a white kitten was lost in the park next to us in a rainstorm, so we inherited Snow White, looks just like your white kitty. Then one day the kids could hear a kitten crying in the rain and we acquired Nacho, the orange tom cat. Thomas just wandered in through an upstairs window one day, he's a black and white. Mouse is a grey female who was found with a sick momma cat and two siblings. She was so amall her eyes weren't opened yet. We bottle fed her, the only survivor from that group. Then Mango, a black orange and white kitten was dropped out of a car into a rainstorm and we kept her crying soaking wet self. So, we bought one kitten and have 6. All of ours are also fixed and get their shots. Anyway, thanks for lovin on those gatas, We sii your happy chickens but where are the goats? Seriously, we need a five minute goat update. I keep expecting to see them frollicking in the background but no sightings. Keep up the great work and be careful not to break the Matt! He'd be difficult to replace. See you next week.
I can't understand why you don't have h-shaped brackets on the top to hold the beams more securely. Of course, I was asking for brackets buried in the cement on the bottom. At least I am consistent. I love the time lapse video with the trees blowing in the background. What kind of treatment are you putting on the posts (ends and all) to protect them from rot, termites, etc?
after 9 cat story..."we're not cat hoarders" minutes later...i'm altering the entire construction of our deck to appease our cat herd..classic cat denial..lmao🤣🤣
Gosh, Matt, you are the real Macgyver!! Is there anything you cannot lift, pickup or plain do? Love watching the both of you, and the animals too, so cute how the cats hang around while you work. 😻
Nice to see some temporary bracing in the last shot I would have 2x4s all around that until all the posts and beams have been connected. That's a lots of mass to only be connected at the base.
A lot of people told them last week to brace the posts ! It wasnt a new idea ! This couple just doesnt realize there could be a few contractors watching the videos !
Oh, Matt. Just wait about 10 years and you will be telling yourself:" Why did I work my Body like that" You will feel it later. I know, from doing roofing, concrete, decks ,and, yes Pergolis. You will FEEL the PAIN. Looking good and keep it up. Love watching you guys. :)
Gotta love the post & beam construction . Glad you brought in some equipment to help hoisting the heavy timbers . There's lots of old framers out there with injured backs don't over do it and get hurt . Cool project I'm sure it will be nice go team !
Thank you T w o, Matt and kristen. I can see you really love cats Matt and I love them too. It's all looking so good and thanks so much. And glad you had the help of that Big piece of machinery. Hope to see you again next Sunday. And god bless you all.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love the mogster heavy episodes :) Honestly they could have their own spin off show if you put cameras on their collars or some such, people would watch that, hell I'd watch that 😻😸
Watching the construction of the giant modern pergola and the effort put into lifting those heavy beams is truly inspiring. Your dedication and hard work shine through every step of the project, showcasing your remarkable skills and determination. And I am Floating Village Life.
Matt have you thought about running threaded bolts through those posts at the bottom for added security. I’m not sure I’d feel comfortable with just a few nails with the wind you guys can get there.
The fish eye lens threw me off for just a second when you were cutting the first beam. I thought one of the beams were warped badly! 😂 I can’t believe that could even jump through my head because of how much you checked everything! Looks great!!!!
a Perry scaffold is what you need. It gives you a 6 ft by 3 ft height adjustable dance floor on wheels . working with a saw on a ladder is WAY to dangerous.
Another groovy episode. Your building job is really coming together. Glad you called in the tracker/loader man. Watching you Matt on a ladder if a chainsaw, and then trying to carry through heavy beans up a ladder was a little nerve racking. I know your macho Matt, but come on man, your beautiful wife needs you to be safe. Kristin, I love your narration on the step by step building. Your so cute and sweet. Matt is one very lucky man, and you are one lucky woman to have Matt.
Amen Cristien, glad you got Matt to get some good help with that Pur- gu- La. we want you guys around and alive for a long time so we can continue to bombard you with our nonsense!!! Your doing great work sir and mam (husband and wife) excited for you guys Cdn. Dave
Oh I was so relieved about getting the tractor! I know how much you like to challenge yourself to “do it myself”! I was worried about your back and just all together safety!
Kristine love your enthusiasm on this progress. Matt you are a pure animal lifting those beams to that height on a freaking step ladder. Love you guys and the content of your videos.😁
Another fun Loving video. Matt we all know you are what you used to be, there is only one Matt from SGBU. You have that looking really good. Kristin, thanks for telling us there will be a deck, that makes things easy to understand. Have a super blessed week. Love from Texas.
Dear good bad and ugly, Down here in nz. We follow sailing channels, and when you're gone, your gone. But not you two, Loved your work on the boat and you carry the torch on this amazing project. Learning from you every step. Our wee boat is easy feeling. 😊
Great job Matt !! You know as long as your pads were good ya could have cut those post on the ground would have been easier & less weight to set but it’s done now maybe if theres more down the road you can try that.
"Rectify the instabilities in our lives." Priceless! Even the most stable among us can use shoring up from time to time. Standing on the top step of a stepladder while lifting a 116 lb. beam onto an unbraced vertical might be a window into something that might warrant some attention. Apart from that, the security and stability of your relationship with one another and with the many other creatures that share our wonderous planetary home is impressive, and suggests to me a deep, heavy, and stabilizing keel. Thank you for all that you do. Btw, that white Klingon at 15' 40" is a hoot!
The main reason for braces is not just stability...but to make all your members square, plumb and level to the world. That way you can cut the beams on the ground and know they'll fit in the air.
One trick in getting heavy things up like that is to temporarily screw pieces of wood on the sides of the vertical posts. You then get one end of the horizontal piece onto the temporary support then work the horizontal piece up on the other end. Make your temporary support so the horizontal heave beam cannot fall off. Make them like L shaped.
OK, in my youth I worked construction. I will say a 120 pound compact load is hard to handle just walking. Climbing up a ladder with it on your sho is much more difficult. But make the load a long timber the amount of strength and skill it takes to climb a ladder in increased greatly. Kudos my frriend. P.S. it's also dangerous.
I follow a lot of vloggers on You Tube, all of them talk a lot and show us little of what you build with the exception of individuals, show a little more what you build or restore because I personally watch because I am interested in what you build and not how it is built, I already know that and many others I think agree. Good luck to everyone
Fantastic work it’s looking great And as to the cats At lest you didn’t put them down We can tell that you and your wife are both very nice people And very kind to the animals ☘️
Have you thought about jacking up the camper and putting a couple of tiers of 8x8 pieces under the axels to keep the tires off the ground? May help save the tires and avoid flat spots. Only need a inch or so off the ground. Just a thought. 🙂 Love you guys!!
Just remove the tyres!!

Kubota Backhoe should be an absolute add-on
The man driving the loader is the real hero here. He's so skilled with that machine. He gently placed Matt right on the money.
Definitely got skills.
shit hot operator
Sometimes you kill me lol. You could have used a laser level or scope at the base of each post bracket and cut them before you put them up. You always seem to want to do things the hard way LOL
Matt, you need some diagonal timber - you CANNOT rely on the feet for the vertical beams. Quick, before a small force causes everything to collapse.
This is especially true when the wind speed increases and you start to experience significant lateral forces from the wind blowing against the roof. Some gussets between the top and verticle beams would be a good thing maybe.
You two have such a kind and caring heart taking the kitties and giving them a good home. I can tell how much you love them ❤❤
That's not a pergola, That's a pole barn! Glad you finally put up some bracing 🫣
Square, Plumb and BRACE ! Do It Now !
Add giant metal T straps at all the joints and through bolt them along with the 45 deg bracing.
Nice job guys! It coming together. Matt, don't push it too hard--a back injury will haunt you for the rest of your life. Trust me, I speak from experience as a tradesman myself. It's usually measured and cut on the ground and if it's accurate then it's accurate up there too, you've done the work in hard way. There is progress😉

Excellent progress. You have become masters of video editing, sountracks, and storytelling. Love it all.

Matt, we really need your videoed response to seeing your boat after Raff left that night. 🎉
Lol no response needed 🤣 we just laughed I'm sure there's still a sticker on there somewhere I didn't find
Can’t have to many kitties! ❤❤❤
Lol it feels like we might😂😅
That's not your problem.
after 9 cat story..."we're not cat hoarders" minutes later...i'm altering the entire construction of our deck to appease our cat herd..classic cat denial..lmao🤣🤣
Yes, don't risk your safety, because you guys are the most important machines in these projects !
Gosh, Matt, you are the real Macgyver!! Is there anything you cannot lift, pickup or plain do? Love watching the both of you, and the animals too, so cute how the cats hang around while you work. 😻
Happy to see you didn’t hurt yourself.
Per Ga La. 😂. Mornin guys
Nice work!
Nice to see some temporary bracing in the last shot I would have 2x4s all around that until all the posts and beams have been connected. That's a lots of mass to only be connected at the base.
that pergola was rockin more than the dead dolphin ....until cut to the bracing!!! give that guy a pat on the back for the bracing tip
A lot of people told them last week to brace the posts ! It wasnt a new idea ! This couple just doesnt realize there could be a few contractors watching the videos !
You guys need a laser level. Makes things so much easier 🍻🇦🇺
Des de España ❤ Barcelona hun saludo😊
So glad you had help, because i am paying for it on my knees and back these days. Rock on guy's see you next week.
As the saying goes, 'If there's a will, there's a way.' You two most certainly have the will!! 👍
I agree completely; nonetheless, I question the ways more often than not. This is why I love their blog!
Oh, Matt. Just wait about 10 years and you will be telling yourself:" Why did I work my Body like that" You will feel it later. I know, from doing roofing, concrete, decks ,and, yes Pergolis.
You will FEEL the PAIN. Looking good and keep it up. Love watching you guys. :)
Save your back Matt!
Coming together looks awesome 😎
Gotta love the post & beam construction . Glad you brought in some equipment to help hoisting the heavy timbers . There's lots of old framers out there with injured backs don't over do it and get hurt . Cool project I'm sure it will be nice go team !
Come on Matt. Think about your back. Once you rupture a disc you’ll suffer from chronic back pain.
Those posts needed bracing BEFORE you went up! VERY RISKY!!
Thanks for the video. Considering the cats, you should call it the purr-gala. LOL
Thank you T w o, Matt and kristen. I can see you really love cats Matt and I love them too. It's all looking so good and thanks so much.
And glad you had the help of that Big piece of machinery. Hope to see you again next Sunday. And god bless you all.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Farmer Dan and Martha Sue 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂Sprit Animal 😂😂😂😂
Pergolia. Great video as always x
The OSHA guys are freaking out now. lol
No osha😅
Awesome build! Best of luck with everything. Yeah we used to not be cat people but now they are part of the tribe here on the island 😂
Nice

Back lives matter!
super video ❤❤😍😍
"It's Hip To Be Square" Loved the Huie Lewis referance. Top one Bob (the Builder) fo PR.
The fish eye lens threw me off for just a second when you were cutting the first beam. I thought one of the beams were warped badly! 😂 I can’t believe that could even jump through my head because of how much you checked everything! Looks great!!!!

Oh I was so relieved about getting the tractor! I know how much you like to challenge yourself to “do it myself”! I was worried about your back and just all together safety!
I love y’all’s channel. Put some metal strapping around those beams. Hurricane clips.
You need to use bolt to hold the post on the bottom
Really well put together video of pergola build. Good luck on completion.
Kristine love your enthusiasm on this progress. Matt you are a pure animal lifting those beams to that height on a freaking step ladder. Love you guys and the content of your videos.😁
those one handed chainsaw cuts tho.... my Lord!
Thank God you braced it up
Matt have you ever used a water level using a garden hose?
Se ve fuerte, so happy that you took the safer route and got
the machine to do the lifting. Exito.
Giurl, u so funny! Great video
I'm here every Sunday, watching you guys, the place is taking shape, looks great, good job.
Nice weeds plants in the background

Love the video. Take care of your back.
It's a good thing that Matt is "Scrong" Strong. Want to be strong like Matt, train like a MMA fighter for several years.
I had a great coach
Great job after you finish the pergola make some high points for the cat to hide underneath. They will love you maybe a staircase.
Good to see that you got some help from the front-end loader!
even some temporary diagonal bracing would be a wise thing to do.
Brother, use short pieces of 2x4 and two ladders and go up ⬆️ n lifts so you don’t get hurt. Love you guys show great job

Damn bro that's a hell of a cliffhanger yeah I'm looking forward to this next episode
Too much clutter is a trip hazard Matt. You need a clean work area. Accidents waiting to happen.
Ye I cleaned it up a bit,
I don't know which one of you pick the music for your channel, but it's absolutely fantastic. Love it.
Yoooo uncle Mattie 🫡
You need a tractor with a scoop and a bucket guys . It would pay for itself.
Matt, you’re the man 😮

And very kind to the animals ☘️
Great job guys, love your channel ❤.
My favorite RUclipsr every weekend ❤
If it is a solid roof I always thought it would be called a pavillion. Pergola to me is usually a shade structure with cross beams but no solid roof.
Well done for not falling off the ladder Knuckles.
Great video
Excellent Job you both are number one in my book
Great video Matt and Kristen
That white kitty loves ❤ Matt
