Matty says he can't grow nothin, but you growin' iguanas, SON! Talk about natural resources. Kristen just needs to start researching Iguana recipes and Matty needs a Hatsan. I wager that'll solve a bunch of problems.
I made a comment on their original video that NO Way will they keep the iguanas out and complete waste of hard work. I also live in Sout Florida. The only thing iguanas won’t mess with is tomato’s.
My favorite part of your videos, besides the fun content, is how Kristen reacts to your off the cuff comments. This is has been such an authentic part of your channel since the beginning. The homestead is looking good. Stay safe.
Solar powered electric mesh fence…that’s the ticket! Quick and easy. Not that expensive and if it’s 20’x20’ that’s more than enough to grow a ton of veggies. Good luck guys!
If you char the bamboo with a propane weed burner it will seal the wood and the bamboo will not rot. This is cheap with no chemicals. The Japanese invented this process and you can look it up on the Internet.
I thought about that but it seems to use a ton of energy, I feel like a project this size would take 20+ propane tanks.. how charred does it have to be?
I used this technique for my entire house build and then covered in spar urethane, looks amazing and in addition to helping with rot the termites don’t want it🤙🏽 Propane weed torch works great and last for many projects on just 5 gallons…
Matt, no truer words have been spoken about crooked as a politician lol. You hit the nail on the head about your beautiful woman. She is one very beautiful lady, inside and out. I know this for a fact. Your fence might be a big sail in a hurricane lol. God Bless in all things. Lots of Love from Texas.
In PR we have many concrete and cement houses and roofs... During strong hurricanes like Maria , I open the windows a little bit to mitigate the pressure on the walls of windows... Some wind enters and goes across and gets out and keeps the inside fresh... About the front property fence , maybe keeping some 1 inch spaces between boards on the fence will relieve some wind pressure in storms... I thought the same thing : the beautiful fence will act as a big sail in a storm or hurricane. I enjoy their videos and I wish them the best!
Put hot wire around the fence. Half way up so it will keep the iguanas off the fence and out of the garden. I don’t know if it would work but it’s an idea.
This is Welder man from Naples again. We need to get some viewers together to get you a welder. You need to build stuff the jungle will not steal back.
Hey guys I found a simple solution to keep the Iguanas out of a vegetable garden, plant rows of marigold flower plants between the rows of vegetables your growing. The marigolds put off an odor the Iguanas can't stand and neither do the mosquitoes like the smell. When I lived in Key Largo, I had a small garden that was doing very well until the Iguanas laid claim to the garden, after a little research no more Iguana issues..... Society garlic plants are another good option to keep the Iguanas out. You can also mix up a solution of cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and dish soap in a 1 gallon sprayer or 2 gallon and saturate the ground around the vegetable plants it will also deter the Iguanas. You can spray this solution on mature plants and it will stop the little thief's from stealing but might burn the leaves on younger plants...
As a neighbor Farmer, I want to let you know that in PR all year is growing season. Also up in the mountains is where hirricane is worst. It real hurricane last a whole extra day. Triste me I have been in a few including maría. No lights for 8 and half months. Right now we are on 7th night with no power.
I can sure appreciate where you two are at financially. I like the way you take care of what you have. You are good stewards of what you have been given.
Sounds like it's time to add Iguanas to the to your diet. We wish sure would love to have access to that much bamboo for our back yard Tiki Bar we are starting. Bamboo is great stuff!
love your "time out" video interludes of cats, waterfalls, leaves, raindrops, etc etc , sooo calming and proffessional . It puts us there observing with you . Thankyou
Matt, Kristen the fence is awesome and looks nice and using natural materials is a great idea and a great way to save money and conserve resources. I would like to add my two cents in and please I'm trying to help and not criticizing. If you make the fence about 4 foot you will save on the amount of bamboo you use and the bamboo will go further. Try putting a hot wire, electric fence all the way around the perimeter that might stop the lizard problem. Having the fence shorter will allow you to see your beautiful property and my fence is 4 ft tall and our pygmy goat stay in just fine. A electric fence is a small investment.keep up the good work😊
Never knew that about bamboo...the splitting. Always done with a knife to split. The sledgehammer works much more effortlessly. Great job! You guys rock!
When the temperature drops in south Florida, the iguanas start fall from the trees. Don’t think the wall will keep them out but maybe it will slow them down.
Iguanas dislike the smell of garlic, lime juice, habanero pepper, and dish soap. You can make a homemade spray repellent using these ingredients to keep iguanas away.
Great to see you trying to use natural resources for fences. I've always liked the English version of natural willow woven fences, arbors and trellis works. Hope the storm misses you and the boat & farm and animals are all safe. Keeping you all in our prayers. Cheers, S/V Cork~Texas 🇺🇸 💖⛵🐬🐕🦎🌺🪴🏵️🌿
praying you guys are safe with the hurricanes. Always calm before the storm. The fence looks cool. Free is always better so you can save your money for extremely important items like creature comforts and Tools.
Here in Pennsylvania we seldom worry too much about the weather. However, tropical depression Debby came for a visit on Friday August 9th. It started raining around 6AM and by 10 AM I had to dump the rain gauge to start over. By noon it tapered off to 6.1 inches total. Some nearby places had flash floods. One heavy rain band that was probably 15 miles wide and 40 plus miles long left a trail of destruction from South of Williamsport to Canisteo, New York. Yesterday there was a low pressure system that parked a severe thunderstorm over part of Toronto and Mississauga, Ontario. Look both of these events up and watch some videos.
Place an ELECTEIC fence approx. 4 inches off the ground and it should stop them. Get the battery type electric charger it uses a 12 volt car battery. Amnd it won't kill them but will train them.
I lived in a bamboo shack on stilts when I was doing an archaeological dig in Ecuador. Good ventilation, easy maintenance, no bugs. It was raised about three feet off the ground and had a nice porch.
The bit where Matt started talking about building a whole house out of bamboo....the look on krissys face reminded me of a Laurel and Hardy moment..so funny
Fun video. Plant marigolds around the outside of your bamboo fence. I'm afraid those iguanas are gonna go right thru that fence to get to your nice veggies. I'd trap em and relocate them farther from your nice home. Just my opinion. Be safe with this hurricane. As always, love n hugs, Myk
I cannot stress strongly enough, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, before doing a bunch of stuff and save your money and time. You are building in a jungle, and animals love your hard work. Research everything before, not after. It's too late then. Good luck guys. Your own ideas, defeat the research!!
Fence looks great. I love how you use your elements around you. In Mexico they use Ocatillo branches 1 at a time and plant them in a straight line. They start growing and it keeps all the wildlife out
Matt, I pride myself about being a cheer leader for all projects on RUclips, but watching you work so hard, you know iguanas climb trees......in Florida during cold weather snaps the iguanas fall out for the trees, and they have iguana warnings. I think an electric fence would work. Bird netting is supposed to work, or surround you garden with smelly plants like marigolds or rosemary. Good luck
Some suggestions which you may have already decided not to use, but here goes. Solar powered Electric fence. There must be some way to construct a wire fence that when electrified would keep those buggers out. Next. Is there a native vine that grows effortlessly that the iguanas don’t like to eat. Use that to reinforce the bamboo fence. Smells. Any plant with a natural scent that keeps the iguanas away or makes them sick when they eat it.
First off, you two are amazing. When it comes to building yourselves a little piece of paradise in a tropical jungle, you guys are naturals. Even if it takes you more than once to get it right, you are still so groovy. You have found true freedom in paradise. As for the iguanas. have you tried putting up DO NOT ENTER signs up around your gardens? LOL!
When I was in Guayaquil, Ecuador, there was a city park which attracted many iguanas. During non-feeding times, they would climb up the palm trees with little difficulty to wait. So I think your crafty fence won't serve the purpose of keeping the iguanas out.
You guys make such a great team. Both in life in general and in love. Matt you work so hard and I know Kristen looks after a lot of the vlogging. I really hope you get where you want to be. I know about pests. I had 100 tulip bulbs stolen by squirrels one year, frustating!
Couple of comments for the algorithm if nothing else. If you wanna grow stuff, get the soil tested so you KNOW if it will grow what you want or what you should plant. Also, iguanas are edible; kinda like chicken with less plucking required.
You could use a table saw to smooth the edges, and they would be even. Also, I would have put a stake on every hole to ensure that the post was centered. Just a suggestion that can help you. You do a great job. Raul Bryan, Texas
Hi, from PoncePR! I think that if you use a kind of smooth galvanized sheet, it would make it difficult to iguanas 🦎 to climb and destroy all your work with plantation. I enjoy your videos! Good luck!👍🏼 Alex

I won't mention that your hard work on that fence is for nought. Hatchling iguanas will live in that fence and an adult could go through it at a dead run. Anything they can get their head through they can get through and if you made it impermeable they would just tunnel under.
The iguanas will appreciate the privacy, that wonderful fence won't stop em.
they climbe over or dig under. lol

@@derekd1510 When they gonna figure out the iguanas are the plentiful food source they have on the property! 😆

In South Florida it’s kill and grill. My personal thought is a fense is not going to keep the iguanas out.

Call RUclipsr Python Cowboy and his dogs. You won't need any fences on you property.
Python cowboy, Yep 👍🏽
Chicken Wire works
I totally agree......chicken wire will...
Bamboo "as straight as a politician". Very funny, yet how true!

That was my thought also.

Lizards are good at both climbing and digging. Bamboo is not going to keep out iguanas. you need hardware cloth.
A solar powered wire electric fence set 8 and 16 inches around the bottom would help as well. 😎👍👍💯💯
The only way is a greenhouse, done correctly. This is my advice from the jungle in Belize.

Marigolds keeps rabbits out too in Michigan

It does deter them but won’t keep them out 💯
@@millingwithmike8189 Yes it does, when I planted marigolds around my garden in south Florida the Iguana invasion stopped totally.
