I live in Cambridge MA and pass by Mt. Auburn Cemetary at least once a week. Thats where many of the local skaters lost in 1961 are interred. I think of them and their promise every time I drive by. So young and so talented.
Its really hard to put into words just how sad this was! Tremendous loss to friends, family , and this absolutely beautiful sport we call " Figure Skating"!......
Wow what a story. So much talent gone to soon. But on the other hand the memorial fund (the 548 fund) which still exist today, has helped and paved the way for other greats who wouldn't financially be able to afford it like Peggy Fleming, Dorothy Hamil, Scott Hamilton, Brian Boitano, Michelle Kwan and many more. That is their enduring legacy. They will never be forgotten. RIP
Can't believe there were no rembrances in the news today, 2/15/2022.
61 years ago; we will never forget you ❤.

A house was built on the crash site in Belgium. www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2021/02/10/60-jaar-geleden-de-dood-van-het-amerikaanse-kunstschaatsteam-in/

I remember when this happened I was 12 and was totally saddened and shocked we’ve come a long way and still produce some of worlds greatest skaters 🇺🇸
Wow ma’am you were there
You hope they're never forgotten. They died so young.
So sad, but thank you for keeping this precious footage for the future generations, to see.
A loss not only of competitors, but imagine the kind of coaches they would have become one day! Such a sad story.
60 years ago we lost 😢 💔 these beautiful skaters never forget 🌺🌹

Today in 1961 so many souls lost.
While 2018 Olympics are happening now we must remember the 1961 USA team lost this day February 15.
fab42355 yes. Always
What could have been remember them
55 years ago we lost our team.
Feb. 15, 1961, the entire U.S. Figure Skating team crashed outside of Brussels on their way to a World championship.
Somebody wanted a sure win.
The entire competition was canceled after the tragedy, so that kinda rules out any conspiracy theories.
Shame on you.
SPAT! >_<
RIP
What year did this puff piece air?
Strange that the Yanks aren't blaming Putin for that too!
Putin is such a pathetic little tyrant.
He did it years later : MH17
Very inappropriate comment for this tragic topic. Please check yourself.
We “Yanks” don’t blame Putin for this particular tragedy, but we DO blame him for the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD that buried Pompeii. 😢
