I'm just happy its almost cold enough to daily my raw denims again
This sounds like the joke Reggie made referring to gorpcore cats!
Please never stop Reggie, this video was perfect! The way you connected the visuals to your content on Japanese denim being a reflection of the culture was so good. I got into Japanese denim recently and feel bad for neglecting my drapey bottoms nowadays 😂
This perfectly summed up why I got into Japanese denim, which introduced me to the philosophy of wabi sabi. Who knew wearing denim can teach us so much more than just wearing jeans!
Literally just got back from Japan where we hit Kojima Jean street. Hit Momotaro, Big John, Iron Heart, and Blue Sakura. I got one piece and my boy got two
I’ll be there in January! Okayama is my second home!
This is what you meant by back to the channels roots. I'll here for it, great to see, cheers Reggie
Classic "The Casual" video. Love it.
what on earth is this, yo reggie with higher production quality. A welcome change we didn't know we needed.
"Accepting the perfection in the imperfection" this should be our daily struggle, apply that mindset to a larger perspective, and you've already ended half of this planet's disputes. Thank you.
See, THIS is what you do so well, and what YOU can do so well…Keep it up.
Got into raw denim back in 2013 and never left. Problem now is the jeans last so damn long i cant replace them.
New video is appreciated
For me, it's Iron Heart and Momotaro.
You paid $245 for your black mono's? That's a steal! I got mine for 3 bills but the pink selvedge was so eye catching yet subtle I couldn't resist
Japanese raw denim is the reason why I started my own denim company. Much love to the craft and care 🙏🏾
Now more than ever would be the best to plug your company
I'm ready to get one. Looking at Samurai.
Now that you have mentioned the aging process, it reminds me of Japanese Silver like Goro's, First Arrows, Tady King, etc. Owners would never polish out the tarnish. The darkening actually accentuates the texture and details.
If you live in America, all those designers and artisans learned about silver oxidation from Native Americans. You don’t need Goro’s when you have an endless supply of Native Americans that do the same work.
To this day Japanese import more Native American silver work than actual Americans buy it.
Truth. I have a little collection of vintage stuff. Etsy alone has tons of this stuff. Some great pieces. Estate sale resellers, for instance. No need to overspend.
I like The Flat Head denim jeans
Love this new format of the casual!
Japanese selvedge denim has elevated my style to such a degree, I can never go to anything of lesser quality. I have 18, that's right, 18 pairs of selvedge denim (14 Japanese, 4 American), and growing, with two more limited editions from Samurai, on their way.
Absolutely loved this video.
Great video! Japanese denim was honestly how I first got into fashion (and I didn’t even think of it that way back then) with Naked and Famous jeans and an Oni denim jacket that I still love to put on. Very cool to hear your thoughts on how it’s a reflection of Japanese culture and tradition
I genuinely dislike denim, but what the japanese do with it, is breathtaking. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean I can't appreciate the amount of craftiness they put into it.
love this
Been wanting a pair of Momotaros for a hot minute, but never pulled the trigger to get one. Might finally get myself a pair in the winter.
Side note, love the scenery change and shots.
Pull the trigger my friend! You won’t regret the investment.
luv that vid!!
so refreshing!
Japanese denim is so interestin i have 3
Oni kiraku denim. It starts off hard and hairy but softens quickly woth wear. It's lightweight and you can see light through it.
Warehouse washed denim based off vintage levis. Its very soft and the fading effect is much nicer than standard washed jeans
Warehouse white/undyed denim. It has a hard surface and a ecru colour with brown cotton seed flecks coming out of it.
Very nice vid my man. We need more of these !
I’m convinced. I just need the right connection to buy them. I’d definitely like to own a pair.
Just got a pair of black momotaro selvedge collab with blue owl in Seattle…stripes are dark grey so good!
Great job Reg!
Great input thanks for sharing.
Great job !
Amazing video bro. Very well thought out and shot.
Best video yet!
I like his B rolls.
Omg yes… love the new direction… I am crazy about Japanese denim and the Journey of having a wardrobe full of it 😃.
Yuuuup I always have one pair of crisp raw denim in my wardrobe. I've owned stuff from Kapital (Century Denim), Ironheart, Samurai, and Warehouse. Looking to get Ooe Yofukuten or TCB (value) next.
Looking forward to my japan trip in December to finally cop a pair!
Great video btw man, love the outdoor scenes!
love the vid its a vibe to be outside
It was very fun to be back in the element! More to come
Great video. Keep it up!
This video was class man. Thank you.
Started my journey with some Brave Stars where they sourced the 18oz fabric from Japan. Epic fades three years on and still very much alive. Then Nudie's Japan selvedge which are incredibly well made.
Then bought some Kamikaze Attack for my first pair of true Japanese jeans. Again, faded beautifully.
Now I have some IH iod where the fabric is dense but incredibly soft. The construction is next level. I also picked up their CPO shirt which again is gorgeous.
Most recently is my Tanuki type II. The fabric has so much character. The attention to detail on the stitching, and the consideration and care given to everything from the colour of thread used, to the detail on the buttons is truly remarkable.
It's a wonderful rabbit hole I've fallen down. I'll make perhaps two purchases this year - PBJ jeans probably next. And I'll keep an eye out for any Momotaro Sashiko runs in the next 18 months. Then I'm finished for a good while.
Thank you.
Love you reggie
Great look, Reggie. And also great to see you out of the studio. I hope you also talk of women's Japanese denim pieces. I wish I had looked for denim pieces on my trips to Japan, pre-pandemic, but I was shopping different fashion items at that time. But, I plan to get back to Japan at some point.
Greetings from Los Angeles
Great episode.
been waiting for this kind of content for an eternity.
waiting for your Okayama road trip.
cheers
great episode with a great message. brings me back to the days of Dior "MIJ" denim nerds lol
ive got all sorts of lower and mid tier japanese denim (none of which fit me anymore because the idea was to size down a bit and have the jeans shape to your frame) but one pair of no name 21oz denim that took me forever to wear in. 21oz is a *little* overboard admittedly lol but they are intact and look great
First selvage denim, shinki horse hide leather jacket next ?
Embracing change lol. I can’t get my boss to change over from the damn fax machine 😂 love the video, definitely have too many pairs of denim in the wardrobe.
No no no! He’s embracing change in how the fax machine is changing! One year it rattles, the next it turns a yellowish hue, clearly too old to be used efficiently, but the beauty of it’s inevitable demise is to be witnessed and appreciated!
Great video
Thx for the video but FYI Pinot noir is a grape varietal ( used in Bourgogne and Champagne for instance ) and Bordeaux is a region and a wine AOC . Consequently it is kind like comparing apples and oranges
And you sir proved the point with flying colors! Because I was just saying wine stuff.
Japanese denim where it all started for me. Now have been exploring other countries' denim production and love affair.
Very Dope and informative 👏🏾
Fire format
Would love to see a video essay on visvim and wabi sabi
Coming up soon
I've actually stopped wearing denim since two years. But well, maybe I'll give it a try on my next trip to Japan
Spirit Wear !
Absolutely love this format/style of video. This is why I subbed years ago. Excited to see more content like this!
Recently bought 3 pairs of momotaro jeans from blue owl in the US… very stiff but so cool! Looking forward to breaking them in
magnificent!
Amazing video love your style great Japanese Denim❤👏👏👏👏🇬🇧
LOVE SLUB !!!
I really wanted a pair of Japanese denim but I was so afraid of the price as far as shopping online. Went to visit some friends in Baltimore, realized there was a selvedge denim shop right down the street from his place only open on weekends so I said I have to go.
I tried on a handful of pairs until I landed on a pair that felt so good. Loved the color the fit, the small details. TCB Catboy (the 2 cats brands)
I wore them a number of times just waiting to eventually see the signs of wear, sadly the pandemic hit shortly after. They sat in the closet because I went nowhere but work and back home.
By the time it was over (for the most part) I had gained weight. Enough that they no longer fit the same. They were actually UNCOMFORTABLE at that point. I thought about holding on, thinking maybe I’ll shed it all and wear them again. Ultimately I decided to list them on Grailed, not for a crazy price but enough to not kick myself for spending on them in the first place. At least I know now that someone is enjoying them the way they were meant to be enjoyed.
I might jump back in at some point but for now I’m admiring from afar.
Baltimore Selvedge if anyone is in MD looking to buy some in person. Guy who owns it does it as a passion project which is why the hours are weird but he’s a cool guy.
TCB is great too! Give them a chance!
Thanks for reading. 😄
This came at just the right time. Been considering Japanese denim since my go to, nudie has been all over the place in sizing. Helped me realized a priceless aspect of Japanese denim I didn't consider. The culture and feelings behind it. If I could ask a question, have any recommends on brands with slimmer silhouettes? Thanks and dope vid
Momotaro, PBJ, Japan Blue. Those have an abundance of slimmer styles. Edwin as well.
@@THECASUALco thanks! you are greatly appreciated. will definitely be looking into them
Reggie, nice work, impressive. My first Momotaro l waiting. Will keep up with you
I would if I could get my size.
Hey Reg love the gear bro. Those MOMO’s looking dope. I’m from LA city. It’s hard to find Japanese gear. Keep up the great work bro
Heading to Japan in two weeks for the first time. Hoping to pick up a pair in person :)
I've been worried about the leaking though. Do they all have the blue bleeding?
@@Imreal66 you will get some indigo transfer regardless of brand. I would say it would be most notable on white leather or furniture...as well as white sneakers. Your hands will also pick up some dye throughout the day...so don't be concerned if your hands are blue lol. In my experience the most transfer happens with the first couple of wears, most often with unsanforized unwashed denim, and the dye transfer comes off of other surfaces easily with soap and water. I have grown to love it but certainly a factor to consider if your couch or car is white leather :) happy fades!
Where can you even find Deming like this in stores in the US?
In the opening scene, what are the shoes?
Hey Reggie, I’m in Tokyo for the next two weeks and I’m looking to buy a leather jacket. Would prefer around the $500-$750 range. Could be lower or ceiling 1000. Was wondering if you had any recs!
Where to buy those jeans in tokyo? Is there a store someone recomends?
Does anyone know good denim factories in Japan?
Qq does my uniqlo selvedge jeans count as japanese denim?
amazing video, Im in NY, I'm wide body big thighs , what japanenese brand do you recommend, I usually just wear Levi's
They all have varying cuts and sizes so you may be ok with any major brand like Momotaro, Japan Blue, perhaps Pure Blue Japan and even THE FLATHEAD. Your choice however should go into how you want the denim to look and feel over time.
@@THECASUALco durability is so important, as you mentioned in the video, now whats your thoughts on these and Kapital Denim, quality and durability wise, ty again for your time,
Kapital Century Denim is GOOD but it’s not in the same tier as say Samurai, Oni, PBJ. This is largely due to Kapital being a bit stretched as a brand as they don’t only produce denim.
If I were to put it mildly Kapital is a bit of a flex while the others are more diehard denim labels. It’s still really good but not as hyper focused.
@@THECASUALco I appreciate the input, I will look for the durable piece , ty, again
I enjoyed your dissertation on premium Japanese denim. It is as beautiful as described in your video. BTW you wear it well👌🏾
Peak fashion content
Samurai, Ironheart for the heavy weights... graph zero for midweights...
LMC
I’d like some Japanese denim, but I’m too big to fit and of it.. so 💀
Listen, $250 is a great price for good jeans, es-SPECIALLY if it's not a brand that's HYPE
Same pricing as Calvin Kleins then it get higher as the brand gets more luxurious (without increase in quality). So 250 is not actually bad because the quality of Japanese denim is far more superior.
You are dope AF
