I agree, I work part time in a nursing home and one of the senoirs that I care for still thinks Babe is better, Ruth fans are living in the bubble and not in reality, they bring up Babe's overblown stats, that he out hit other teams, but refuse to realize that majority of the players on other teams in the league were working other jobs because they were'nt paying them enough money, they won't even make a double AA minor league team now. Babe played against coal miners and plumbers, and was'nt playing against the best players worldwide or even in this country. Now it's a full time job, athletes train just for baseball, players are bigger stronger faster, they train 362 days a year, and play against Worldwide Talent, even Casey Stengal said in 1962 the players are better then when he was playing against Ruth in his era, Shohie is even better as a pitcher, Babe never threw 100 mph or even 90 (his average pitch was high 80 mph ) If a time machine brought Babe to play today he'll be a good player (hit 20 HRs and maybe win 4 or 5 games most) but if Shohei goes to play in Babe's era no doupt he'll dominate (hit 70 to 80 HRs and Win 30 to 40 games) and even alot of Baseball historians said the same thing also, comparing todays game to a hundred years ago when the game was still early and not advanced to as it is now, and also the great players like Ohtani Acuna Judge if they were living in 1920s they won't be allowed to play in the Major leagues, or even guys like Pedro Bonds and Griffey would be banned playing in the Majors in Babes time. Even the foods are better now then a hundred years ago, instead of just pizza and speghetti, we now have all mix foods of taco's, soul food and sushi, three of my favorites.

@@Richard-gw2lr Yep. He doesn't even do the things that made him such a great player before and won him that contract, like steal bases, or lay out for plays in the outfield. In addition, they have been load managing him for awhile now, sitting him in several games even though he's healthy. All those precautions, and he still gets hurt just from swinging the bat 🤦‍♂️. That speaks to the organization's indifference and ineptitude regarding fitness and health, and/or a lack of work ethic by Trout, who, quite frankly, is doing what most human beings would do if given hundreds of millions of guaranteed dollars, regardless of your production...not put in as much as effort as you did before all that guaranteed money.

And all the toils behind.

While fun to think about, there are several issues with that: 1) It would be impossible for Atlanta to get Ohtani without giving up some of that lineup in return... you can't simply trade for him with top prospects and draft picks, you'd have to throw in a big name or two... 2) The Braves notoriously don't open their wallets too much, both in terms of yearly salary and total amount (they have one $200 million player in their history, Austin Riley for 10y/$212m signed last year)... you wouldn't dare trade away everything to get him for the remainder of this season if you weren't going to try to also sign him and make no mistake about it, Ohtani wants (and will get) $500-$600 million... and 3) Atlanta would almost certainly have a Ronald Acuna problem sooner than later, as he's under contract for three more years at only $12.5 million/year. Given he's the best player in the NL, he will likely ask to renegotiate for $300-$400 million. So like I said, it would be fun to think about, but virtually impossible.

Agreed. The Angels are severely banged up. They need to be buyers, not sellers. Get Goldschmidt and a starting pitcher at the deadline. The left side of the infield (Rendon, Neto) comes back after the break and Jo Adell will get a good look with Trout out. Mike Trout has not been the same this season, his BA is low and his strikeouts are ridiculously high. This is the time to make a trade, but be a buyer, and make a run at the playoffs. That is the only way to keep Ohtani. He has just a good a chance with the Angels than he does with the Yankees or Mets.

Lol, Mad Dog out here saying that if they trade Ohtani the Angels gonna be cursed like Boston was. Man, they already cursed. They had Ohtani and Trout together for five years and did not win anything. Well, I also think it has a lot to do with the owner being content with having big names to sell tickets. Instead of having a good team to sell tickets. This year has been the only real year that they have tried to build the team up to help them win. The reason for that is because they want to keep Ohtani and winning is the only way. But I know that if Ohtani signs they will stop trying and go back to being mediocre. While using the big names to sell as much stuff as they can.

  • @recnepselyp

Ohtani will be a Dodger, whether that's by august 1st, or in the winter, and heres why. The Dodger's only have 1 big contract on their books, that is Mookie's, with a bunch of differed money as to stay payroll flexible. The reason they didn't offer Trea a 300+ mill contract is because Dodger brass was waiting for Ohtani. A core 3 of Mookie, Freddie, Ohtani will be box office, and most likely bring home at least 2 rings. The Padres can't afford him, seeing as they already have a billion dedicated to 3 guys, with another likely to get 400+, that they gave away their WHOLE farm for. The Mets have shown that they can throw around money, but haven't shown that they can be a powerhouse in the NL. The Yankees already have a billion dedicated to 3 guys, and were hesitant to give their reigning MVP the money he deserved. Finally, the Mariners and the Giants. The Giants are still in the infancy of a full on rebuild, and the Mariners are not even close to becoming dangerous in the AL, and no just because Ohtani has respect for Ichiro does not mean that he wants to play in the same uniform as him. The Dodgers and Ohtani are a perfect fit, a match made in heaven, and it will happen.
