  • The Shimano Ocea Jigger is a rock solid, compact beast of a reel. Combining Rolex level precision with power and features. Whether you're fast jigging or slow jigging. Tog jigging or just bottom fishing. This thing is a precisely engineered monster. Love or hate shimano.......there's nothing it's equal. Sure there are reels with larger capacities and capable of higher drag pressures. But that's what the Talica is for :)

    62 years old. Been working on reels since I was a kid. I collect reels. I buy reels, clean, lube and sell. In other words taken countless reels apart. Thought I had seen Springs fly off every way one could. But you get the trophy. Catch one in the mouth? Dam. Takes some serious talent.😀

      I'm glad you enjoy them. I've been a multispecies Angler for over 30 years. That's a ton of opportunity to focus on tons of different species. And not everything that I'm into will translate into what others or the majority prefer. But I try to have fun with them for guys who just like gear like yourself. Plus you probably like to see how stuff ticks like myself

    I bought one each 1001, 1501 and 2001, all left retrieve PG (SLOW) models from Japan.
    There is no warranty on any imported JDM reel but I don't expect to need a warranty.
    These little reels are very refined but built like tanks. I doubt I'll ever have a problem but if I do, I'll get parts and repair myself.

No idea why shimano didn't cater for heavy jigging with a conventional reel for quite a few years now. Good to hear they're changing that. I went and bought this reel after watching this, but now I see there is an Ocea Jigger with a new feature called the "fall lever" on the Ocea Jigger F Custom in a black colour. I wonder if I could buy this lever and install it as it looks to be an extension of the spool tension knob ? any ideas Mr Tackle Advisor, Thanks

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  4 года назад

      Not having seen the F custom in person I'm not sure how it goes on. Though I bet it's keyed to something that screws onto where the tensioner is mounted. Not having used it I wonder if it's helpful or an annoyance... You can adjust it on the non f and the knob is out of the way. Where as the F it is constantly in a spot that can take a hit or be moved.. That's up to you

      @TackleAdvisors  4 года назад +1

      Both great. I really like jigging with a levelwind.....I find sometimes my wrist can cramp a bit leveling the line on a long trip. The drags are close but you're not looking for tons of stopping power with a reel in that capacity range. I jig with my Tranx 500 and love it. I really wish it had the clicky drag. The spool lock is a nice feature for a number of reasons....And the ocea is the more refined reel. the tranx will do pretty much everything you ask of it. And offers a levelwind. Honestly I'd throw a dart.

    What’s the differences between the 1500HG & 1500PG? Thanks

    • @arkster00
      @arkster00 4 года назад +1

      The HG is high speed. Something like 6:2:1. The PG is something like 4:2:1. The P I think stands for Power. That allows you to crank up stubborn fish whereas you might have to struggle harder to turn the handle on the HG and use the rod more for pulling the fish in. PG normally are better for bottom fishing. HG reels are great for fast moving jigs such as for Yellowtail here on the west coast.

    • @huudinii123
      @huudinii123 3 года назад +1

      @@arkster00 you are wrong. HG is better for slow moving jigs and retrieve the line slack in the line after the drop so that you get better contact to the jig. its also better for presentation of the jig. with one turn you can pitch the jig up and then let it flutter. HG is better for slow pitch jigging

      This is more precise and may be a better bet for bottom fishing. Rage is more overbuilt and has a higher max drag... But it's a lever drag

      GO by PE capacity, deptch you'll be jigging and how much line you need for battle. I prefer a minimum 300 yards of appropriate strength braid when pelagics are around.

    I need advice. I want a new spinning reel under 200$. I want it to be like 2500 or 3000 size. I gonna use It for saltwater light fishing, in a rod that Will be 1/4 - 1oz cw and about 7'. I was thinking about the spinfisher vi or a daiwa back bay. Could you recomend me a good reel for that? Maybe one of those 2 or any other I didnt considerate? Thanks a lot

      Hi Eduardo. My two favorites are the stradic FL and saltist back bay. You could go up in size for the same weight with a ballistic and possibly gain some casting distance with the larger spool diameter

      Tackle Advisors thanks a lot for the quick response. Thats a dificult choice! I am going for the stradic hg or xg fl 3000 or the back bay 3000lt. If you could choose just one of them, wich one you think is better for inshore salt water fishing? Or just better in general. I saw all your videos about it but I dont know. Thanks

I saltwater fish and i could imagine that it might just be seized up but i wouldn’t imagine this badly for the way i fish, I’ve never dunked the reel and i always wash off my gear. The 4 little indents that the tool fits into is almost stripped from trying to loosen the plate do you have any suggestions on what i should try ?

      Tackle Advisors i mean they’re selling extra spools so you can spool it with a different line and instead of bringing several reels, you only need to bring your spool if you want to change from light to heavy jigging or heavy to light. They include one extra screw and a small wrench in the box so the owner can open the reel. im not going to open mine offshore and lose one of the screws because of the swell.

      LOL....It's their best jigger coming stateside....And they have the F custom with a lever actuated spool tensioner which is cute...lol Togging and bottom fishing.....The saltiga and this would make a killer bottom fishing reel due to it's power, speed,and spool lock. That's a pretty big reason why people are excited for it coming stateside........I personally think even more so than light inshore jiggers (not to be confused with tog jiggers which are definitely wanting this...but that's a different jigging technique than the inshore slow of fast jig...
