Agreed. My dad bought the pathfinder 2013 when they changed designs. It was horrible. They went back to a 9 speed automatic but only time will tell if those are reliable.
I bought my Nissan Pathfinder in 2005. Did my oil changes every 4months as my dad taught me,changed the wipers as needed, car battery as it depleted, changed the rear left side brake light only twice as long as I've owned it, just replaced the right side passenger power window with RUclips help. I can park on compact parking spaces because of its narrow designg, and can fit 8 people comfortably. Its 2021 so I've owned my pathfinder for 16years, and as long as I've owned it it still runs like brand new. So I am very satisfied with mine. Tried to make 200k (bought it new). Made it to 197k b/f trans gave up the ghost. Other than that - great vehicle. I actually hate that they changed the body style.
I fixed this same issue on my ‘05 Pathfinder before completely harming the transmission, by bypassing the radiator and relying on the external(towing) cooler. Completed repairs by flushing out the contaminated transmission fluid and replacing with a new transmission filter and fluid afterwards. That was 9 years ago, and making all other repairs that this vehicle is known for, my Pathfinder still runs strong to this day and is definitely one tough cookie, lol!

I had a 2008. Was a solid vehicle until the transmission started to not downshift when coming to a stop. Made starting up again quite difficult. And the engine threatened to overheat above 70mph. Then I saw where they were prone to having the radiator leak into the transmission. Traded it in on a new 2015 4runner, which I still have. 200k miles, only issues have been the Takata airbag recall and the doorlock actuators aren't the most durable.
Question...are any of you aware that the Pathfinder has been completely redesigned for 2022? No more CVT and complete body redesign with a standard V6, and it has all the latest technology.
Yes, everyone is aware. They are still geared towards pavement princesses though. Not a true off roader like the R51 and before was. The engine, it is the same engine from the older version pathfinder.
I have a 98 Pathfinder i bought for 800$ It's ran for 4 long years with plenty of wide open throttle. Out runs most newer cars i come across. Almost all of them lol. Nope, I have a 2000 Xterra with 315K miles and ZERO issues. Bought it with 3 miles on it in 1999. Original tran and engine. No squeaks or oil burning. Incredible rig......
I don't know about the newer Pathfinders, but it used to be that any model made before 2004 were made better than those after that year. I had a 2001 that ran well @ 250,000 miles, until a guy had a episode on the road and totaled my vehicle. Pathfinders made after 2005 generally had problems with the radiator and transmission. That what I thought anyway.
I strongly recommend you take some time to do some research on this. The Nissan Pathfinder was redesigned for 2022. They've ditched the CVT transmission and replaced it with an all-new 9 speed plus a total body redesign and now it's probably the finest SUV on the market.
I have an 08 with about 126K miles on it. I have had 1 spark plug go bad on a road trip, 1 ignition coil on a separate occasion, recently the coolant hose went out on i95 and was hard to find a local store with the right piece, along with the coolant line I had to replace the gasket due to overheating. regardless of all that, I love the vehicle. These are fairly small issues that I, with no mechanical experience, am able to fix in my driveway.
Not too sure whether this is meant to be taken as a serious advice, these cars are actually quite awful. 😅 I've previously owned a 2007 Pathfinder LE with a 4.0 V6 under the hood. These engines are well known to have timing chain related issues. Also the radiator is badly designed, it tends to leak the coolant into ATF, which results in destruction of the transmission. The overall build quality is poor, the rust protection is bad, also the ride comfort is not great. I'd say that there are just three things that make this car somewhat good. 1) Quite good off-road capabilities 2) It has plenty of torque for towing 3) The interior is actually pretty roomy. Other than that... I wouldn't recommend to buy one of these.
@DevilDog53 right, and it was a warranty item too. I remember they kept alerting me, but when I checked the recall notice it only applied for AT. I guess there were so few MT ordered that they just alerted everyone.
If I ever buy another new used car I do believe it will be this vehicle. I’ve heard so many good things about it I have a friend of mine that buys cars at auctions in Florida I’m going to have him look for one of these and see what it cost to purchase.
Is a 2000 Nissan Exterra XE 4d 4wd w/ 190 thousand miles worth 5 grand ? Really great condition inside and out, never towed anything, garage kept , new tires and mint condition ?
What year is your Armada? I heard the 1st gen Armadas aren't bad and fairly durable once they get past the 2008 model year. I'm not too sure about the quality of the 2nd gen Armadas.
@@RayRo3r I've got an '07 Armada with just over 120K miles. It has been super-reliable so far, not showing any signs of stopping. The only expensive repair was the darned plastic AC damper actuators buried deep behind the dash. But other than that, it's been filters and oil, pads and rotors, just the usual wear items. I got it as a lease return in 2010. If I had known at the time, I would have held out for an '08 to get Bluetooth integrated with the radio, which would have been nice. I'm not a fan of the newer model years/body style, so I may never own another Armada, but I'll own this one a while yet.
Best Nissan Is Actully The Nissan Quest. The 2005 is The Best One Because They Are Reliable. Durable. And They Last a Long TIme With Their Powerful V6 3.5 Engine. Same Engine As The 350z!
This model is notorious for timing chain problems and radiator leaks mixing with tranny fluid. The older pathfinders were better engine and tranny wise but the bodies have all rusted out especially in rust belt states. As for the new model haven't heard much but they are new after all
Sorry Scotty, but the D21 is the best thing Nissan ever made. The manual two wheel drive ones might as well be made out of titanuim for how indestructible they are. My 91 had over a quarter of a million miles and didn't use a drop of oil, thing was quick and handled VERY well. Even though it was the smallest engine they put in them, I would fill the back and it would take it no problem.
Where scotty and me live, you can find them cheap cause the Nissan Plant is here and most nissan employees buy them and discard them fast since they're so cheap new compared to most cars that they're cheap when used.
Question - Im looking at buying a used 2008 Nissan xterra X Sport Utility 4D 4.0 V6 with automatic transmission. He is asking $7,500. Its a year with the smod radiator leaking into transmission destroying both issue. Mileage on it currently is around 97,000 miles. Seller im talking with just bought the xterra less than a year ago after his wife totaled one of their other cars so they bought the xterra to help them in their move from florida to california where they and i are now. They say they dont need the additional vehicle as they also have other. I asked if they or previous owner already replaced the radiator and / or transmission given the xterra being one of years nissan made the badly designed radiators that can leak into transmission and vise versa. He said he does not know if either were replaced, but he hasnt replaced either. But he proudly said paid the nissan mechanic dealership to do a radiator or transmission flush. Yet from what Ive read its actually recommended to not flush the transmission in these old of xterras as it can damage transmission. Full replacement of transmission fluids being the more recommended safer option. So given assuming its the original transmission and radiator, and dealership at least gave the xterra a transmission flush instead of replacement, and unknown previous maintenence and repair and issues history before he bought it last year, i am wondering if its likely its going to fail soon? Or if it can likely continue working good for many years without needintg to replace transmission and or radiator within just a few years? I test drove it briefly and didnt notice anything obviously slipping, stalling, etc. But I only drove it maybe 10 or 15 minutes and forgot to try out the additional low gear options. And if there is no leaking at this point between radiator and transmission ( and how do i know for sure ) is it safe for me to just replace radiator and do transmission and radiiator change of fluids ( not another flush )? And this will prevent transmission being damaged, and is it reasonable to expect these transmissions to then last at least another 1000,000 miles before needing replaced?
To be honest I wanted it to be a little bigger in the driver's compartment. I could get in, but it wasn't all comfortable. I'm over 6' and kinda big. I need room. I really liked the Pathfinder and liked how (at the time) they seemed to be available. Wound back up in another Titan. And that was after I said I would never get another Titan, much less a Nissan. **sigh** But the Pathfinder did seem like a good ride.

My current 2018 Murano has become my favorite of all my vehicles owned.
No one's talking about the bald tired lol
My 96 pathfinder is amazing. Truly the best generation of nissan products
I have a 98 Pathfinder i bought for 800$
It's ran for 4 long years with plenty of wide open throttle.
Out runs most newer cars i come across. Almost all of them lol.
Has had basic servicing, oil/sensors/filters/tires/lift kit.
Some uhhh engine power goodies 🙂
It runs perfect 🤨 i don't want any other car as a daily.
Don't drink gas like the old v8 truck. Still don't have any money though 🤣🤣
I got an r50 with 400k km on it, still take it off road still drive it for work daily and it starts and runs like a dream everytime, just make sure you get on 2012 or OLDER, Or youll end up with a cvt
We have a 2005 Titan that has about 170,000 miles on it. Fully loaded with bling chrome. We’ve had to do several repairs over the years with the most current repairs being the coils. My husband will never give it up for anything.
Rightfully so, sounds like a man of culture and prosperity
How about the automatic transmission on these, do they go out prematurely too like the Sentra's & Rogue's?
Yes they do
@@connor2610 my aunts husband has a 2006 Pathfinder with 180k miles. Original automatic transmission that still works like new. My dad also had a 2000 Sentra he bought with zero miles. After 16 years with 189k miles it rusted out and we scrapped it. It still had its original 4 speed auto that never even had the fluid replaced yet it still shifted perfectly from new.
yes - documented problems with coolant getting into the autotrans 2005-2007 of that body style, but a well maintained 2008-10 would make a good choice.
Nope..replaced radiator to avoid strawberry mix. Now @ 252k
@@wafflesnfalafel1 that’s what happened to mine. 08’
Still enjoying my Rogue loving the 2022 Pathfinder and Frontier.
Thank you Scotty. My Fronty 07 V6 4.0 has same engine. Now 254k miles n drives like new. Major fix is change passenger cat converter @ 250k $1200.
I had a new one in 2007. The transmission went out with less than 24,000 miles. Luckily, I was under warranty. Had it fixed and sold it
I had a 1981 Datsun Maxima and it was a straight six that thing had like $375,000 mi on it and was still running when I sold it the body was still perfect even the paint was still nice the interior was trashed but that was due to a cop ripping up the seats when it got stolen from me anyway to make a long story short the thing was amazing and still ran great got good gas mileage had plenty of power is an automatic..... It was unbelievable it just went forever !!!!!❤😢😃😃
Nissan Armada is the best build on truck frame 👍
My dad's got a 2002 toyota camery broken cd player and oil leak almost three hundred thousand miles and I love your videos
My neighbor moved away and didn't take much. She sold her older Pathfinder before any of the neighbors new she was going to sell it. Everybody wanted it.
Nissan is great overall. I own a 2015 Nissan Frontier pickup. Best veichle I’ve ever driven.
Rocking a 2001 r50 pathfinder. Only thing I've replaced are wheel bearings and complete suspension upgrade.
“What more do you want”
A luxury car
A fast car
A car that doesn’t look like a box
A car that when I park and walk away from I always look back
A car that is fun to drive
06 Frontier 281k on it. All original except the radiator.
I loved this video, Specially becauseI have one Nissan Pathfinder, LOL !!! I liked all of your videos, you are the best !!!
That car is like the suv version of the frontier
notice wording "the best vehicle THEY MAKE" 😂
I have an 08 with about 126K miles on it.
1) Quite good off-road capabilities
2) It has plenty of torque for towing
3) The interior is actually pretty roomy.
Other than that... I wouldn't recommend to buy one of these.
I had this engine in a 4x4 Frontier, but with the 6MT. That solves the radiator problem, just need to man up a little.
06 bought new has 281k son has it now best truck I’ve ever owned. All original except the radiator.
@DevilDog53 right, and it was a warranty item too. I remember they kept alerting me, but when I checked the recall notice it only applied for AT. I guess there were so few MT ordered that they just alerted everyone.
In the early 2000's the pathfinder had the same engine as the 350z
Only video he's made that I like
out side the us we can get pathfinders and frontiers with a 2.5 turbo diesel or a 3.0 v6 turbo diesel
Best years of Nissan pathfinder
Love these! They're great. Have a 2011
Ever had much issues?
How are the transmissions?
If it’s a manual, it’s fine. The automatics are the weak ones.
continously variable
next video: I was wrong with Nissan CVT
@@vincedibona4687 not true the auto cvt was garbage, the normal autos are good
The early CVT's had issues 2005-2008 but it's mostly fixed now. I see hundreds of nissans with over 240km and they still work fine.
Well hell must've froze over 🤣
What more do you want? Xterra of course with a frame not unibody. And the manual transmission
Love my 2011 X!
Well u think this is pathfinder unibody??? keep in mind this gen pathfinder gives v8. xterra doesnt
@@farazhussain5550 not unless you’ve got a VK swapped Xterra!
@@robertglover9812 xterra with vk swapped + manual trans =💪💪 best build
The Pathfinder and Xterra of that era were the last real Nissans lasted a while big strong v6 although they eat gas like its a buffet
If I ever buy another new used car I do believe it will be this vehicle. I’ve heard so many good things about it I have a friend of mine that buys cars at auctions in Florida I’m going to have him look for one of these and see what it cost to purchase.
Are they still good vehicles ?
Don’t forget about the radiator the leaks into the transmission and fries the TCM and then you gotta buy an $8000 transmission
You had me at Nissan.
Be sure to install a BIG transmission oil cooler behind the front grille if you want it to last.
ATLEAST I wasn’t the only person who did it. I have installed separate cooler
Why do you have to install a cooler?
What about Nissan xterras? I’ve always loved those
Got a 2008. It has a V8 with POWER! And closing in on 300,000 miles.
2008-2012 has the v8🎉
A million dollars sounds good
Is a 2000 Nissan Exterra XE 4d 4wd w/ 190 thousand miles worth 5 grand ? Really great condition inside and out, never towed anything, garage kept , new tires and mint condition ?
245,000k and up on my 2005 Nissan Pathfinder and still going strong.
My dad had a 2006 pathfinder for 15 years til the transmission finally went out
And the Nissan Xterra too are best...
After all the car videos i might get me a horse with a good transmission and reliable legs.
I wish the armada was as good as that pathfinder. I'm having all kinds of electrical problems, emissions, air conditioning to name a few.
I'm sticking to my 2002 R50 Pathfinder very reliable,,, the next gen R51 with the yd25 engine is a lemon of a engine 🤔
Best Nissan Is Actully The Nissan Quest. The 2005 is The Best One Because They Are Reliable. Durable. And They Last a Long TIme With Their Powerful V6 3.5 Engine. Same Engine As The 350z!
Some Pathfinders of that generation were available with the v8 as well
I know someone that traded one of these Pathfinders in for a 2018 GMC Acadia.
My Montero sport will outlive that thing
Change the passenger side spark plugs lol engineer said nope got to take off intake lol😅😂
A Pathfinder is a poor man's 4Runner.
300,000+ kms and still going like when I bought it
To be honest I wanted it to be a little bigger in the driver's compartment. I could get in, but it wasn't all comfortable. I'm over 6' and kinda big. I need room. I really liked the Pathfinder and liked how (at the time) they seemed to be available. Wound back up in another Titan. And that was after I said I would never get another Titan, much less a Nissan. **sigh**
But the Pathfinder did seem like a good ride.
