How to troubleshoot and repair any LED TV power supply board.

- In this Video we will troubleshoot and repair a Samsung Power supply board BN44-00268A that is totally dead. This SMPS board is used in various 55 inch lcd television models; mainly Samsung models LN55B650T1 and LN55B640R3.
In this particular case we find that the SMPS switching IC part# 3BR1065JF is shorted between 4 of the 6 pins.

Just wanted to thank you for this video. I picked up the same TV for free the other day and went straight to that IC and it was shorted. Just got it installed and it fired right up. I am in my 70's and can't keep myself from dragging them home to stay busy. I had forgotten how heavy these older sets are and now gotta wait till someone comes over so I can stand it up. lol Thanks again BD. Have learned a lot from your videos.
I've been watching power supply board repair videos for monitors for about 3 weeks. This video is by far the most comprehensive and best out there. These people talking bout not worth repairing a monitor but you show dem how little time consuming a few checks can be. Thank you.

Well done. In this day and age most of the so-called techs are nothing more than board swappers. No money in TV repair. Look into gov maintenance contracts. You are better than a lot I have outbid. A lot of money is made doing what you seem to love. JMO.

Each power supply has some important points like supply and output pin and osc pin and feedback pins every ic main pins you should take diode reading and keep for future
Another smart way is if you have any working power supply you should take it voltage details by removing the output mosfet and by disconnecting the main supply from output transistors so that you will get a knowledge of working voltage and the drive output voltgaes of the pwm ic

@BigDog8882 After it comes out of the rectifier I am seeing like 162 vdc, where does it get dropped down to 12vdc to power the pcu? Also how does the hot side vdc make it to the cold side vdc?

I really need some advice! My Dad's LG 55EG9100 took a crap few weeks ago. He said screen lost color and shut off. TV power light is on and seems to flicker sometimes. Gets dim. TV does not power on. No relay clicks etc. Nothing. Just stand by light. I took it apart. Don't see damage but power board smells like burnt electronics. I have 3.5V at power board. Thanks!
I have a Samsung pn64e8000, and no power at all just like your video. I looked up the data sheets for all of the transistors and rectifiers, and I have a chip (3BR2565JF) just like yours. There's a bunch of silicone and stuff in the way, so it looks like I will have to take the board off to test it from underneath. Amazing video!
Do I need to have it powered when testing for the shorts on that chip?
My current sense pin (2) is shorted to gnd (5). Is that bad?
I have standby voltage, but it's way lower than it should be. (board says it should be 8V, but it reads around 2V). Any ideas?
I have a toshiba TV and I believe the power supply board is bad because the TV is working properly , but there's no backlight. Everything works on the TV if I shine the flashlight on it I can see it works. I originally fixed it by taking apart and unplugging the power supply and messing with the plug and eventually I got it working again. Just by wiggling it around and stuff it went out again. Could it be the main pcb still even, if everything's working or would you think it's the power supply. I don't believe it to be the backlights because it will Flash eventually as I mess with it now

So I have a power board that the first fuse right after the power input was blown, so I replaced that and now a resistor sparked and blew up right next to the fuse I replaced. Any ideas as to what went wrong?
The resistors are right after the capacitor pair. I don’t know much to barely anything about this I’m just following the lines on the green side to find the order of stuff.
What's the most likely culprit if the TV turns on fine but then restarts constantly in a loop, and is immediately triggered by increasing the brightness? I can't push it past around 35. Tech told me it's probably the backlight. This makes no sense to me. Seems to me it's the power supply, and that it's maybe overheating.

Im looking at my newer Sony TV power board and it has none of the things you are mentioning on its PSU. You should make a newer video just like this for a newer TV

What if the stand by voltage is 10v
Anyone ever had any technical experience repairing a supply board? My Phillips TV has an audible pop every 2 seconds coming through the speakers. NO it's not due to the TV heating and cooling, it's specifically coming through the speakers and doesn't stop until the TV gets unplugged from the wall.
IF anyone has any EDUCATED guesses based on their technical experience on which components I should check with my oscilloscope or multimeter, I'm all ears. Please don't send me on a wild goose chase, I can do that all on my own. I'd prefer to hear any suggestions from someone that has direct experience with this. Thanks in advance.
9:21 It sounds like you are saying that if you disconnect the connector that connects the main board from the power supply board you dont have to worry about shorting the pins in the connector even if you accidentally touch more than one pin at a time?
I wish you would explain things more clearly, you are talking to people that arent tv technicians after all
If you have the whole TV or the actual connector to the plug, U can check it at the other end. The main thing is DON'T short the pins with your meter if you checking voltage.
@@bigdog8882 Thanks for replying! Shopjimmy didn't have my replacement PS Board but sent me a repair kit with 10 common failing parts. Sadly after investing in a digital microscope & other tools & replacing all those fuses, IC's & smd's in that kit the tv still doesn't work. I have standy power & the stby light goes off when I power on but the TV doesn't come on. I'm gonna replace the two main Caps although they are not bulged & see if that makes a difference, if it doesn't I'm not sure what else to check. The LEDS appear to be fine
