  • Building the new PR Racing PR S1 RM 1/10th retro buggy. In this video, we undertake a detailed step-by-step build of this new RC release. Can this knock the Japan only G Force Genova off it's top spot and take on the Kyosho Dirt Master? Well, after building this kit, I can already see it's not messing about and PR Racing has made its intentions really clear!
Are we starting to see a new RC class being born or will it fade into obscurity? I guess we will just have to see in 2024.

I really like my S1 RM. It is a very good buggy for the money and competitively priced when you compare its spec with that of its main rivals. On the track I found it to be noticeably quicker than both the Dirt Master and Genova. There's a lot of front end grip with the battery in a forward position. Looking forward to seeing how it does at your local circuit! 👍
Whether it, and the DM and Genova like it, are a success depends on RC clubs. If they offer race classes for this new segment of buggy or allow them to run in vintage races, I think they'll do really well. As nice as the S1 RM is, it is at a major disadvantage when trying to compete with modern mid-motor 2WD buggies.
    Great video as always!

What about on outdoor , dirt tracks, ones with a bit of loose dirt loam in places...
I like the full length chassis on this, compared to ones like the RB10 from AE, and Dirtmaster which are plastic tubs like my B4.
I might have to build onenof these just for kicks... and to try a "modern" rear motor buggy...

Yep, as you said, it's a modern buggy... with a rear motor. It only has a vintage look thanks to the body and wheels. Maybe a rear motor class instead of vintage ? Anyway, the chassis looks gorgeous, not sold on the body and wheels yet, but probably due to the bland boxart livery. Can't wait to see how you will paint it 😉 Take care and don't push too hard 😊 Oh, what about the BBX ?

I think if anyone runs this in a vintage class they’re just being unfair on others.
Like you’ve said, it could open up a new rear motor class.
It’s definitely a modern buggy so should be raced against moderns.

A track near me will be having a special 1/10 scale outdoor race next July, with gas trucks, a vintage 27t brushed or 17.5t brushless , a rear motor 2wd class, and a modern 2wd class. Among other 1/10 classes like 4wd , sct , and so on...
I will definitely run "Gas Truck" with an AE converted to Nitro, and I have an Ultima that I don't know if I want to motor down and gear up for vintage, or just run in Rear Motor with it's current 8.5t brushless setup... I really like the looks of this rear motor PR buggy though, and it would work great on our outdoor dirt tracks in my area.
Hmmmm....it does look about as top spec as it gets, I have to look up where to get them, and parts, here in the US...

    • @KaiCityRC
      @KaiCityRC 9 месяцев назад

The Dirt Master, Grasshopper and a couple of others use nylon/plastic nuts for the shock mounts. I've heard someone say it is to reduce weight higher up and keep the COG low down. Don't know if it's true, or even if it makes much of a difference, but that was one explanation offered. I do know some people run the shocks inverted to keep the weight lower to the ground. So, maybe there's some truth to it! 🤔

Maybe they could run the PRS1RM on a rear motor class [with vintage look]. It's up to the racer if they want to modify their unit. The PRS1RM I think could accept mods from PRS1V3 and V4 but by the end of the day it boils down to driver skills and most of all having fun.

Gavin, great build review on what seems to be a promising 2wd rear motor buggy! Based on your review, and David's from Kai City, I purchased one when it came off backorder from PR Racing USA. When will you be putting the electronics in and painting up the body? I'm really looking forward to that episode! Also wanting to see you race the PR S1 RM and the comparisons with the G-Force Genova and Kyosho Dirt Master. I'm planning a HW XR10 with a 17.5T or 13.5T motor - can't make up my mind on how "hot" a motor I want. I enjoy your content, BUT WHEN WILL YOU COMPLETE YOUR PR S1 RM??? ANXIOUSLY AWAITING!!!

Looks like a nice kit. I really like the retro looking body trend. I must admit to losing interest in the 'buggy' class of cars recently due to the racing indoors on carpet thing. I can't get into pretend offroading on a gym floor. I know it's practical and all that, but buggy racing needs dirt. Carpet tires and low ride height just doesn't scream dune buggy to me. I guess the number of true outdoor tracks is probably the issue for most. too bad really. dirt racing is the bomb.
