Steve, I really thought your Stars & Stripes was good, But you knocked it out the park with the Union Jack my friend, Thank you. All the best from North London UK.
Hey great video. Being a Brit living in the US married to an American I love both video's of the flags. When I went to school we were always told that the flag was called the Union Flag unless it was flown at sea, it then became the Union Jack.
Thanks Scott! My wife is from England. The teachers did a really good job of teaching everyone that, because everybody is telling me about it. lol I actually spent a few minutes deciding what to call it before shooting the video.
Wow. Amazing. I’m just starting out learning woodworking as a hobby and, as a proud Brit, and Englishman, I would love to make myself a Union Flag and this is the perfect project for me to attempt. Thank you for sharing 👍🇬🇧
I do Joy! It's the process of taking regular boards and turning them into something better that I find so much fun, and not really knowing how it will turn out. Thanks!
I used to work as a clock case builder and case cleaner, inspector, and repair. We made mantle, wall, and grandfather clocks. It closed down in 2000, import prices drove us out. I absolutely loved my job there, there is just something about taking lumber and turning it into art. Loved it, the feel, the smell, everything about it.
Another great project Steve. Really like the way that came out, looks so good. I know you had so much fun making too. Again so upbeat for these videos. I feel like I'm right there with you while you're making it!!
Amazing looking flag there Steve, I was thinking of ideas when we touched on this subject in the last video, but wouldn't have come up with anything as great as this piece
Well done Steve, it looks mint. Ever thought about trying the lion rampant of Scotland 🏴. It’s one flag I have not seen any one do yet. Keep up the good work.
I looked that up and wow that yellow is bright! I traced my Carmichael ancestors back to Lanarkshire. I might do it. Looks like a good bandsaw and scroll saw project, or cnc. Thanks Peter!
Hi - I use a light mist of 3M General Purpose 45. I spray it on lightly and let it dry for about 30 seconds to become tacky, then stick it on. After you do it a few times, you will get a feel for how light to spray so it sticks well, but will easily peel off. If it is hard to peel, dab some mineral spirits on the paper and it will lift right off, then wipe off the residue.
I'm absolutely brand new at woodworking. I have some of these tools and think I can make it happen Did you rip down a 1x6 to 4" or did you use a 1x4 board? Also, what did you use for the panels? I know my local menards has "plyboard" similar to this but I wasn't sure if anyone had a better idea. Thanks in advance!
I ripped a board to 4" wide. A standard 1x4 is actually 3.5" wide, so it won't be wide enough for this size flag. I cut the corner panels from a standard pine 1x12.
Great flag. I'm certainly going to have a go at this. Interesting fact..its only called the union Jack when on a ship, otherwise it's called the union flag.
I thought the glue up would be tricky with all of the angles, but it was easy. I am really pleased with it and my wife likes it too. The colors of the stain are fantastic.
little tidbit of info for you, its only called the union jack when flown on a boat / ship, other than that it's the union flag, even a lot of my fellow brits dont know this
It's onnly referred to as the Union Jack when used as the Jack flag on a boat, otherwise it's the Union Flag (actually that's still under debate according to wiki, just thought i'd share) ;) Just mesing with you.
Great job Steve ...but... It should only be called a 'Union Jack' when it is flying on board a ship, otherwise it's the Union Flag. Most Brits call it the Union Jack though.
Get it right, it’s not called the Union Jake, it’s called the Union Flag. It is only referred to a Union Jack when it’s flown from the Jack Mast on a boat.
God bless you Steve, not just for doing our flag, but for being brave enough to give us the metric measurement.
Thanks! I always have fun doing that on the British related projects.
Great job. This answered my question on how to do a Arizona State Flag. Thank you.
Steve, I really thought your Stars & Stripes was good, But you knocked it out the park with the Union Jack my friend, Thank you. All the best from North London UK.
It's only called a Union Jack when flown at sea.
Fantastic going to have a go ,thanks for this
Steve, your enthusiasm and happiness is infectious, love watching your vids, great project.

Amazing. An American can get it right. Yet half the British population don’t know which way up its meant to go.
Great video.
Another awesome project, Steve!
Thanks!
Amazing looking flag there Steve, I was thinking of ideas when we touched on this subject in the last video, but wouldn't have come up with anything as great as this piece

Wow that was incredible , hopefully you sell some of those
Thanks Chris! I've only made the one. I usually move on to something else for the next video and hardly ever make the same thing twice.
Great job!
That is truly amazing!! Would you be able to do a tutorial on how to make a Scottish flag please?

very cool project, and unlike paduk it wont lose that brilliant red.
Thanks! Time will tell I suppose. Will be interesting to see how the Minwax stain lasts over time.
Nice Jack there, Starving Youngun! A-PLUS! You look like you're getting a dab char broiled but 'tis the season. Don't get burned!
Such a rebel not doing it in metric! Still looks great. Send it to me and I'll give it to the queen
Where is your riving knife on your table saw, very good project though. 👍🏼🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
How could you cut out the pieces with out a scroll saw
Please do the Aussie flag next
Hi can you tell me please what glue did you use to stick the paper to the wood

@@SteveCarmichael hi thank you for that. I am going to have a go at making a union jack just sorting my shed out into my work shop. 👍
steve, nice flag.
Thanks Shaun! It's the Def Leppard flag. :)
Very nice, (but it's only a Union 'Jack' if it's on the back of a ship. Otherwise it's a Union flag)😊 nonetheless this is great👍👍👍
Great job Steve any chance u could make a Jamaican flag if u find time TKS

Great flag. I'm certainly going to have a go at this.
Interesting fact..its only called the union Jack when on a ship, otherwise it's called the union flag.
Thanks! Yeah, I thought everyone knows it by Union Jack. Still just makes me think of Def Leppard.
@@SteveCarmichael I only learnt about it the other day and I'm English lol
Actually I would like to hear what YOU think of the project.
Personally I think it's fantastic.
I thought the glue up would be tricky with all of the angles, but it was easy. I am really pleased with it and my wife likes it too. The colors of the stain are fantastic.
@@SteveCarmichael Excellent!
little tidbit of info for you, its only called the union jack when flown on a boat / ship, other than that it's the union flag, even a lot of my fellow brits dont know this
Correct, but in 1902 this was changed so either term flag or jack could be used to refer to the flag regardless of its mounting 😉
where I buy one..
Try Etsy - www.etsy.com/search?q=union%20jack%20wood%20flag
Made mine a few years ago and it’s hung on my wall of the workshop
I really enjoyed your video Steve! I would really like to see you try to do the Israeli flag.
Really, why is that? I looks like an inlay candidate.
It's onnly referred to as the Union Jack when used as the Jack flag on a boat, otherwise it's the Union Flag
(actually that's still under debate according to wiki, just thought i'd share) ;)
Just mesing with you.
It will always be the Def Leppard flag to me. :)

Yeah, I've always heard it called Union Jack. It is the Def Leppard flag. :)
Share 👍,💯👏👏👏👏👏👏👏♥️
can you please make a album art from a Thin Lizzy album
I do have to pick an album for next year. Thin Lizzy was never on my radar much other than the most popular songs. The logo looks cool. Hmm, maybe!
Get it right, it’s not called the Union Jake, it’s called the Union Flag. It is only referred to a Union Jack when it’s flown from the Jack Mast on a boat.
You sound just like my British mother-in-law. lol When I see this flag, I think Def Leppard. :)
the butchers apron
Stave, Another well made wooden flag! Curious why the UK flag? Do you have lots of subs over there or lots of requests or what?
Hey Mac! My wife was born in England and has relatives there, so I made it for her. We will hang both on the wall.
Steve Carmichael Ahh yes, I now remember you mentioning it long ago. Thanks. I’m sure she likes it and it will look great along side the US Flag.
Rule, Britannia! Britannia, rule the waves! Britons never, never, never shall be slaves.
