melissa, thank you so much for this. i was wondering why my skin still feels kinda dry or tight after regulary moisturizing it, and you made me realize that this is probably happening because i put moisturizer on my face when its still wet after cleansing (because i dont really pat my face dry). very helpful video thank you a lot

Sometimes it also helps that moisturizers are best applied when the skin is still a BIT damp (not wet though). Also helps prevent trans epidermal water loss.. 💞
Great video. I have been using the paula's choice bha and have been loving what's its doing to my skin. All thanks to you. Could you please do an updated sunscreen video?? I know the most highly rated one is the Elta MD ones and my skin for some reason doesn't like it and I'm having a hard time finding a sunscreen that works for my oily & coloured skin. Please make an updated sunscreen and preferably on the drugstore line.

The only sunscreen that I currently use is COSRX Aloe Soothing sunscreen, and I recently got the Isntree Sunscreen which seems to be great as well, but very expensive to get here where I live.
Have you tried the COSRX sunscreen yet? 🤔

Unfortunately I live in Malaysia where we don't get many options for sunscreen. We do have La roche posay sunscreen bt I have not tried them yet. I'll try looking Corsx and update you.

By the way, I have decided to stick with Azelaic Acid instead of vitamin c, thanks to your suggestion! 💞 My skin seems to not agree with any vitamin c (or derivatives) serums.. But I also just discovered kojic acid and arbutin which are great for brightening! 💞
Hope you can also try the Hada Labo lotions (toners actually) soon! 💞
Yes, just use what works best for you :) And I do have some of the Hada Labo products, and I am currently testing them. 😀

What facial cleansers do you recommend?
i have oily skin with pores but no acne and i already use cerave but i want to try something else
I can recommend La Roche Posay and Cetaphil; they both have fragrances. (most of them)
And if you are looking for fragrance-free cleansers, Paula's Choice or The Inkey List.

Is it okay if I only do the morning routine and skip the evening routine? Also, thanks for general guide, it was my first time doing it and it seems like I didn't pat my face enough which caused the tightness you mentioned after applying the moisturizer. Oh, and also, I have some sort of red, dry area at the areas along the bottom of my nose that occasionally bleeds; I apply anti-fungal cream for its treatment, but it has some sort of chalky texture-for the spot of this application, does it replace the moisturizer? Or do I apply it beneath/over? Thanks

Well, I am unsure about this, sorry. But did you get the anti-fungal cream from your doctor or the pharmacy? If so, I advice you to ask them.
Hi Melissa, do we need to wash off moisturizer before applying sunscreen or any other cream? Or can we put anything on top of moisturizer without it being washed off?

Hey Melissa! I’m not sure if you are able to help with this but here’s my question. After I shave my face I usually wash right after with benzol peroxide face wash and after I apply clindamycin benzol peroxide gel to help eliminate the change of razor burn or ingrown hairs. Do you think this is excessive? Should I just use the wash and apply moisturizer after ?

My biggest issue pertains to pimples. My face is not really red, but I breakout on my chin, nose and cheeks often.
My current routine

I have also gotten the Paula’s Choice BHA exfoliant but I have yet incorporated it into my routine

*I was on Tretinioin but I stopped as it really had no benefit after 5 months*

You can use PC 2% BHA in the PM. However, do not use it when using your Benzoyl Peroxide wash or Clindamycin Benzoyl Peroxide gel as this can be irritating.

Hi Melissa! I have decided to go with a benzoyl peroxide treatment called the paulas choice Clear skin clearing treatment with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide to use after my paula’s choice bha exfoliate. I found this product because you did a great video about it! And i’m following with what you said about only applying it on the spots that need it which was very helpful to know. Hopefully this will work with my routine. Again my routine is as follows:
CeraVe foaming cleanser
paula’s choice bha
paula’s choice clear skin clearing treatment 2.5 benzoyl peroxide
Versed dew point moisturizer
sun bum spf for am.
hopefully this will work well together and i will eventually use this every morning and evening right? some days will i just use the treatment and no bha? thanks again for the help and sorry for all the of the questions lately. Your videos are so helpful for me and I greatly appreciate. 😁🙏👍
Sorry, i'm not Melissa lol. But i think your moisturizer should go first before the benzoyl peroxide. Moisturizer - BP - Sunscreen.. Make sure to let each product absorb well..😊

Since this is a gel, it goes before, but with a benzoyl peroxide cream, yes, use that one after the moisturizer as otherwise it will get smeary or you move it around. So the gel absorbs well into the skin, and if you wait 1-2minutes, it works well with that particular product since I have also used it and tried it for a while.
And if you have the black BHA bottle, it may become irritating when used together with Benzoyl Peroxide too often. So it is probably best to alternate. Use one in the morning and the other in the evening or alternate days. But you need to figure out the right frequency for yourself; very hard to give you good advice for this. Play around and see what works best for you! :)

@@GMSurvival No, Paulas's Choice Benzoyl Peroxide is a gel; therefore, you use it before the moisturizer.(cream/lotion) But there are some cream formulations with Benzoyl Peroxide available they usually go after the moisturizer, or you just skip the moisturizer.

Yes, absolutely Just make sure that it suits your individual skin needs. Means do not use a cream for oily skin. ;)

@@josearrieta4522 It does not add up when doing this, so you do not increase the %. Still, it may do nothing to your skin when using the serum. But we actually do not know what % of Niacinamide is good for our skin or basically what it needs, and how much the sunscreen contains.
My recommendation would be to test it and see if the serum can give you additional benefits; if not, just skip it or just use it in the evening. Try it 😀
Hi Melissa🌸 do i need to apply a moisturizer after using hydrating toner such as Isntree green tea toner or exfoliating toner such as benton aloe bha toner ? I have oily skin so I'm curious to know?
Generally, no, practically, it depends significantly on the product you use. But they contain hydrating ingredients, which oily skin lags. So you really need to test it.
For me, it works best without it! And when my skin becomes dryer, I skip all the treatments/products I use and wait; that usually solves the issue within 1-2 days. I just find that using moisturisers makes the situation worse no matter which one I use, especially after retinol or exfoliating acids!
@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial omg this exact thing happens with me also. I have found that whenever I'm using hydrating serum/toner its best to skip the moisturizer as they already work as a moisturizer (that's what i think). Otherwise my skin tends to feel clogged or greasy as its said " less is more".

@@sarahishtiaq9879 It is excellent, but you may not need the thermal water as you have already washed your face before. Still, if you feel comfortable using it, just continue. And for retinol/retinoid, I think they work best independently. So just using the retinol/retinoid after cleanser works best for me.
What do you do if you are sweating after applying sunscreen and moisturizer? Do you have to wash your face with water, causing all of the sunscreen and moisturizer to be rinsed out of your face? And why does my face feel like there is so much on it, after applying sunscreen and moisturizer?
Hmm, do you follow the guide shared in the video? 🤔 Also, which moisturizer and sunscreen are you using? If you're using a heavy cream and a creamy sunscreen, it can quickly become overwhelming. In all honesty, in such a case, using a moisturizer might not be necessary. Instead, focus on finding the ideal sunscreen that suits your needs and feels comfortable on your skin. Additionally, if you tend to sweat heavily, opting for a mineral-based or waterproof sunscreen formula could be more beneficial.
Can I use a benzoyl peroxide/clindamycin acne gel and then use vaseline to slug after?
Yes, you can apply a traditional moisturizer after. Just give the gel enough time to absorb into the skin. (maybe 1-2 minutes or a bit longer)

Also, depending on your skin type and sunscreen, you can skip the moisturizer.

Hey! 😊 Thank you for your kind words! 🥰 Have a look at CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser, Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, or oil or balm cleansers. These options are usually very hydrating and gentle on the skin.

Are you trying to double cleanse? If so, it usually involves an oil or balm cleanser to remove heavy makeup or mineral sunscreen, followed by your treatment cleanser.

You can use your acne cleanser in the AM and Cetaphil's Cleanser in the PM.

Yes you can. Make sure to patch test first, since some people find that their skin do not react well to niacinamide.. :)

A facewash is basically the same as a cleanser :)
Aloe smouthig sunscreen is chimical or phisical
This sunscreen is a combination of both chemical and mineral types.
