    Been wet shaving for over 40 years and have used so many different brands of cream. I always come back to Trumper. Limes, almond, and sandalwood are all fabulous scents. Stick these in my casket when I go, and I'll be happy for eternity.

    Having wet shave all my life, I recently discovered Taylor of Old Bond Street and what is the best shaving cream period. The great choice of fragrance, value for money, and the quality of the product is second to none. I lather the brush and it does 4 passes with no additional lathering. I can spend an hour taking my time and savouring the experience and my face feels amazing. If you are looking for a cream that does not cost a fortune, start with TOBS and see for yourself.

    Comparing them for value was a good approach. My favorite TOBS is 'Eton College' but my goodness we are blessed with so many good choices from around the world these days; many small artisans and lots of old line companies like the 4 you highlighted, along with others in France Italy Germany etc. A wonderful time to be a traditional shaver! 😀

    Since then I have tried hundreds of creams , brushes , razors...And I can honestly say that TOBS have creates some of the best shaving creams out there. The latest Royal Forest is simply superb and I need to get the Oud.The Tobacco Leaf is very similar to their Cedarwood.Another superb brand is Castle Forbes.

    Had same experience you had in DR Harris, in TOBS. Completely lost me for years. Switched to T&H. I like T&H N.10. both the shaving cream and the moisturizer and I believe it's similarly priced as your winners. Like their Apsley cologne. Been using it for 4-5 years. Recently discovered DR. Harris Aftershave Arlington and fell in love with it. The fragrance is fresh yet not overwhelming, therefore I can use it with my perfume for the day. But what I love about it the most is the way my skin feels after I use it. It really calms down, and doesn't itch etc. Can highly recommend it.

    Thank you for the excellent review; your comparisons are very helpful. Being an old guy with sensitive, easily irritated skin, I lean toward TOBs because of their natural, organic, unscented option. I have had good experiences with Executive Shaving in Scotland. I find their lesser prices makes up for the shipping charges to the US. Perhaps, you would consider doing a program of shaving products for men with sensitive skin--they're a lot of us! Have you ever tried Castle Forbes from Scotland? It is a notch above the 4 you reviewed and the lather is extremely luxurious. Last time I bought some it was £22.50 for 200g but it is super concentrated so you need less than those creams there. Wow, while other soaps takes thirty seconds of brush loading to get enough for a nice lather, it only takes 4 swirls for enough lather for three of four saves. I can't say enough on how amazing their soap is. I'm in the process of trying all their different fragrances before I make a decision of my favorite one. Just remembered your "perfect shave" video from about a year ago where you preferred Reuzel to all the brands mentioned in this video. Have you completely gotten away from Reuzel or do you still use it sometimes?

    • @TheChapsGuide
      @TheChapsGuide  Год назад +1

      I use it a great deal, probably 50% of the time. I like to use other creams to keep it interesting. I only ever take reuzel when I travel. It is absolutely the easiest when moving around a lot.

      @@TheChapsGuide I use a product called Cremo much the same way. Shaving super slicks are wonderful for travel or when you don't have time for a more traditional wet shave.

    I have to disagree, as I've used all four of those producers if shaving products and found D.R. Harris to be far and away the best. I'm terms of the creams that you were speaking of, the margins narrow, though the quality of lather from DR edge out the rest. however, if you use the hard soaps the quality difference is immediately apparent. DR uses an old-fashioned recipe containing tallow, and the cushion from the razor's edge is only paralleled in a few other products (namely Penhaligon's old shaving soaps and the ultra-luxurious Acqua di Parma), not to mention how it leaves your face feeling softer and nourished.
    I would recommend you try the DR Harris hard soap versions, as they truly offer the ultimate shaving experience.

      Agreed. D.R. Harris shaving soap is sublime. I’ve been using the same puck since late September of last year, and more than half of it remains. I shave every day, but there have been about four weeks where I traveled and didn’t take the soap with me. A puck is £14, so it’s an outstanding value.

      @@aaronramsonwhite have you gotten the beautiful wooden bowls they come in? You buy it once then can forever refill it with the inexpensive puck refills. There's something so wonderful about losing your brush out if a beautifully hand-turned wooden bowl. An old world luxury!

    I think you're going to have to make a video on how to use a cutthroat razor first!!!😳.....(I assume that's what you mean by a "double-edged razor")
    EDIT: Sorry! Watching your "personal grooming" video I've found out what you mean - it's not a cutthroat, but one of those old-fashioned single razor blade razors, of the kind I think my grandfather used to use! (I don't mean that in a derogatory sense but with great pleasure, as Grandpa was a man I very much admired!♥️)

    Good evening Ash, Chaps
    I swap my preference of shaving implement periodically. I do enjoy a safety razor though. I remember the days of stick soaps, I still look out for such.
    I may well invest in one of your reviewed products.
    I also often "dry" shave 😁
