I completely agree with Drew that it's better to let go of the pain from parents otherwise it tortures both of you. And I've forgiven as well. Drew is literally a role model to me in that respect.
Great interview. She has definitely been through hell and come out the other side. Her best line is that she is not her daughters friend - she's her mother. Bravo!
You listen to Drew talking and it’s hard to not fall in love. She’s so personable and likable and nice. Qualities that seem to lack in most people these days.
I feel like I've watched Drew go threw so much in life. We are the same age and I've loved her since E.T., Firestarter, and Cats Eye.. As a teenager I remember all the magazine headlines of her doing drugs, being bad, and I think there was one thing that even included guns. (Ironic, she did a movie called Gun Crazy) And now she's one of the most inspirational actresses. Good movies, her own production company, talk show... She's awesome and a beautiful person. I'll always admire her.
lol that is literally all my mom says! she's always like "im not your friend, im your mother" and honestly I wouldn't have it any other way. I didn't need a friend, I had friends and ive noticed the friends I had who had parents that were the "friends", those kids have had some issues growing up and being independent and being mature. now my mom and I are friends at 25 and its great because she's taught me what she needed and now we can just get along. I think the parenting approach of "im going to be your friend" isn't a good one in general unless you have a balance and certain boundaries. Obviously Drew is a special case since she was also in the public eye at such a young age
This was deeply moving, I certainly appreciate your honesty dearest Drew on such a sad and dark/unfortunate chapter that we all generally have and still go through. I’m adopted and was abandoned by my biological mother we are still estranged till this day. She has not made or taken any initiative to be in my life, my dad sadly was different and tried to be more loving to me but his addiction ended up taking him in the end.🥀 I made it this far, perhaps I can and will still go even further than I could imagine...😔💛🌏 Thank you Drew for the movingly encouraging words...
Good for Drew. I fell out with my mom for a period a few years ago and now we text periodically. I had to forgive her for myself, not her. Especially since she won't own up to her neglectful ways during my childhood.
One of the great truths of the human condition is: "Adversity builds Character, so that Character can then challenge and reshape Adversity." Nietzsche phrased it this way: "Out of life’s school of war - What does not kill me makes me stronger (Friedrich Nietzsche, "Twilight of the Idols," 1888)." Good for you, Drew! After the Jade Barrymore visits and hearing how they didn’t talk, it’s nice to see this saga end with healing and their relationship back on track. Sterns been around so long he has these sort of sagas play out and come full circles over 30 years
Wish we lived in a country where certain words could be said on both satellite radio AND daytime television. You know she'd love to say fvck even once on her show.
That's traumatizing to put a 13 year old in that...I know how it is to be a mother..I would never do that to my kids..never! What Drew's mother did to her..sorry..that's too much!

Her honesty is her strength
I’m just glad she finally got to take that sip

One of the rare child actors to come out of it ok. I have new respect after hearing this.
Drew is a phenomenon. She's absolutely amazing

My daughter was admitted to a psych facility last week at the age of 10. It's horrifying

Wisdom. She paid a high price for it, but boy does she have it.
Very intense interview... Easily spot how emotional Drew got talking about her Marriage, kids and Mother...

I remember watching Barrymore in E.T. We're the same age, and the first time I watched it, I didn't fully understand it. And she lived it!
I am seriously so proud of Drew
People don't understand we are all human.
She's always great with Howard.
She is such a strong woman!
so mature. love this woman
She is one of a kind ❤️

Some people are happy and lucky to have met each other, some of us not so much. Love and accept YOU and maybe it happens if not is ok
So glad she got through it
Considering that Howard used to have Jaid on his show, for the entertainment, Drew shows a lot of equanimity about all this with him.
Just wow. I'm going to save this.
Drew Barrymore Rocks
Letting go is key
Maybe her mother is a narcissist. She should still beware
She is fantastic

What a lovely woman...
Am I the only one who can't listen to her any more without thinking of SNL's Chloe Fineman's dead on impression?
my mother also says that she is not supposed to be my friend
Love Drew 💖💖💖
Didn't Howard have her Mother on the show all the time?
Hmm yeah
I love her
I hate the language Drew. Love your shoe, more gracious. Love your maturity.
Love Drew ! She's got such a great attitude and heart.
If I was a guy I would definitely be on that app trying to date her ! 😆 lol
❤🙏✌ Love you all ! Happy belated birthday Drew!
I institutionalized myself, best decision I ever made. #thebipolartruth
13 is way too young to be locked up
