Glad you got your money back. My biggest problem with Discogs is people that do not know how to grade albums....my most recent was about 3 months ago I purchased a first pressing Japanese Rolling Stones Sticky Fingers. I ended up paying $65 because this was a personal grail...received the record and it looked like it had been dragged off a pickup truck thru the parking lot. He had graded this VG+ in the description. Contacted the seller and thankfully he refunded this to me and I sent back. The problem I find is sellers sometimes use stock photos and I should have requested actual photos...and FYI I noticed about a month ago this is back being listed....not sure if this a different copy but buyer beware....this should be in the dollar bin 🤔😩🤷🏻‍♂️🙉

I’ve had the same problem on a few occasions. Every time no refund or even a few bucks back. Unless a guy
has 100% feedback I stay away.
I’ve tried contacting Discogs and PayPal but they seem to side with
the seller, “ the guy paying the fees”
It’s such a piss off when you open
a package and see crap. Leave a Negative feedback then he leaves you
one even if you played by the rules.
It really sucks at times. 😎

I highly recommend using the usps informed delivery service. It’s free, and it shows you all the packages heading to your address in the usps system, as well as images of the smaller pieces of mail like letters. It doesn’t show size and weight like ups or FedEx, but it helps make it easy to keep track of all your packages.

  • @steveszymanski2962

Glad to hear Pay Pal was reasonable - tough for them to know who the scammers are, as I'm sure there are probably buyers who do the same thing (i.e. buy something, get it and then say it wasn't correct / didn't get delivered).

    • @johnb6723
      @johnb6723 2 года назад

That is why sellers should, without exception, make sure they use a tracking service, then the buyer can't say they haven't had it when they have signed for it at their end. Sellers should always be vigilant to make sure they send the right goods to the right people, not make silly harebrained mistakes. I see that a fair bit on feedback from buyers where people have received goods meant for someone else - basically not matching the goods to the customer correctly.

  • @BigCraig

It's tough purchasing from Discogs lately due to COVID-19 slowing the mail way down. I've learned that these days patience is required: the seller may only go to the post office once a week to drop off deliveries, and once it's in the postal service's hands, media mail has become a real crawl. Luckily with good communication with the seller, and a good tracking number, I still have a good track record buying via Discogs. And of course, only buy from people with solid seller ratings!

As a seller, I've been super surprised at how fast media mail has been arriving to my buyers. My best guess is that mail volume being way down has cleared the way for items low on the USPS priority schedule to move sooner. I guess our mileage may vary. But yes- the communication is key, from buyer but especially seller. I tell the buyer that if I see a line at the Post Office, I'm not going in, so it may take an extra day or two, then communicate when it actually ships, and always send the tracking number.

In general kids, the best thing to do is just avoid buying from sellers who don’t have feedback in the community. But if the day comes that you do need to buy something from a seller who hasn’t been vouched for, message them and ask for pictures of the product. Often times, they won’t be able to comply, because they do not actually own it. If they can’t provide multiple pictures, you likely have a scammer on your hands, and it’s best to just cut your losses at that point.

Yes we all need to be diligent online. Especially during this pandemic where shipping times are already delayed.
My advice to everyone is to keep a record of all your tracking numbers. Make sure the sellers provide one to you. I keep a spreadsheet of everything I order (way too much) which includes the item, the site I order it from, tracking number, and I update it daily with shipment tracking using USPS, so I know it's headed my way. I haven't had too many issues so far.
As far as what Matt went through, good work being diligent, Matt. That's horrible someone would do that. as another user said you now have limited red white and blue colored limited pressing priority boxes to use now!
Only issu I have really had was a seller (whom i've brought from numerous times before) from Chicago shipped me a sealed early 90s LP that I had purchased from him. it was shipped on 4/17/20. It was never scanned and as of last week, sat in pre-shipment status. The Post Office was able to tell me that the mailing label was incorrect as they claim the seller put my name in the address field and part of my address in the "zip" field. as of last week, I opened another case online and come to find out the USPS status is now "Label created not yet in system". the postal service now has no record of my information and only that a tracking label was created. it's almost as if the status went backwards and someone went in and removed my info from that tracking number. I did get my money back and the seller is very responsive...but sealed LPs from the 90s (especially for the low price I paid for it) are irreplacable. somewhat of a scam but maybe not with the seller?
    Happy buying!

Mark Troddyn Vinyl per se won’t make any digital recording sound better, specially if one’s standard/benchmark for analog are pre-1980 recordings. Unless it is a well-done reissue of a pre-1985 recording I’m not much interested. I have sold back or returned many recent vinyl releases because I concluded that sonically wise I’m better off with the CD. Way cheaper, too.

@@alzamonart I 100 percent agree. I think what drives me crazy is that the music industry, seeing that they are losing money with CD sales, offers the public these recently pressed records that sound wise aren't any better than the CDs. I guess if you are losing money you will do whatever you can to stay in business. Regardless, walking into the music section of a Barnes and Nobles these days is pretty damn depressing.

Been a buyer on discogs for a long while now, and the general rule of thumb is to - like stated in the video - not buy super expensive stuff from someone who has no ratings or more negative than positive reviews, specially if the price is too good to be true. Also, check the seller reviews before buying if you feel like something is off. But most importantly, even if they have a 100% rating, make sure to do some background research before buying a record. This shouldn't have to be said, but it does happen: Sellers put records up for more than double their original price. For example, the repress of Ori and The Blind Forest's soundtrack is still for sale for 40 bucks, but people are already trying to sell it for over 100 dollars in order to earn a quick buck. Make sure you do some research, and check if the record you're looking for is in stock from the original store/seller/distributor/whatever, before buying it on Discogs for way more than they originally cost. If they're out of stock, it's natural that the flip is gonna be more though.

But they don't return my phone. Much worse, nobody requested a refund from me. Without communication from either the buyer or PayPal, PayPal just took the money out of my account! It was a few hundred dollars that just poofed without explanation. Nobody requested a refund from me. Nobody talked to me about issues with the phone. Nothing. Just woke up to find my payment gone.
I reached out to the buyer who never responded to me. I opened a case with PayPal, which was quickly denied! But I had tracking information and even a signature confirmation of delivery. In the end, I had to essentially spam PayPal and threaten to get the FBI involved myself until finally they gave me my money back!

    The two biggest scams ever:
#2 - Gene Simmons "Vault". $2,000/ $25,000/ $50,000 - Make believe safe box containing 1 large book and 11 CDs holding 166 songs that span a range of 50 years of demos, unreleased songs, and alternate takes. A non precious metal coin, doll, and assorted random leftover trinkets as consolation prizes. $2K will have you attend a place where other buyers will gather and Gene Simmons will personally deliver the box to you, as well as pose for pictures for a couple of minutes. $25K You and Gene in a recording studio listening to the CDs for 2 hours and talking about anything. $50K Gene will come to your house for 2 hours and you can bring 20 of your friends to attend. He will sing songs with his guitar and tell jokes.. All three include the "vault" with the CDs and trinkets.
#1 - Vinnie Vincent Boxset. originally sold for $200 in the late 90s, not one single unit has been delivered to this day. Two years ago as he emerged as a transexual woman, she promised that the people that paid for those boxes would get 2 as compensation as soon as they are ready to be delivered. As of this writing, not one has ever been delivered to anyone.

Always file a report for ANY scam, or even an attempted scam, with the appropriate authority. If it’s interstate commerce, file a report with the FBI, the ICC, or both.. if it’s intrastate commerce, file with your state’s authorities. Yesterday I received a scam call regarding Social Security, and immediately reported it. These jerks are hoping we are too stupid or too lazy to file a report. If you don’t, you are playing into their hands, and making it more dangerous for all of us.

Discogs really should allow and encourage sellers to attach their own photos rather than using Discogs' existing images. This would make it easier to spot scams; on eBay a seller than can only provide stock photos rather than photos of the actual item being sold is a massive red flag.

I have to say, fair play for being able to even involve someone like the FBI, here in the UK my accounts got hacked even though I had MFA enabled, bizarrely it some how got disabled (which isn't supposed to be possible) and idiotically the person who did it didn't use a VPN, so the external IP access showed where it was from. I reported it to the UK police and was basically laughed at and told to go away before I was investigated for harassment of this person who clearly did it. The lack of understanding of Cyber crime is embarassing.

Generally speaking, I only buy used albums at yard sales or record stores where I can actually see and inspect the record first. I do order online sometimes but that's only new albums from either Amazon, Walmart or on ebay when the address it's coming from shows up as Shepherdsville, KY as that's less than an hour's drive from me and I can go to them if I have any problems and so far never have had any. Been burned a couple times buying from unknowns. Live and learn.

I've got buyers that have tried to pull a fast one by having the PayPal address different from Discogs address. Usually, they are from out of the country and say that they have a forwarding service in the US to send packages to them in bulk to save on shipping. A lot of them pay the order and end wasting your time and their money. DON'T fall for this. PayPal will only insure the seller for purchases that match the shipping address at the time of purchase. Ship only to the address in PayPal even if it's next door. Unless someone has a different method of payment to cover situations like this.

A while ago i bought the third Beta Band ep off of ebay. Not the rarest or most expensive record in the world but i needed it to have all three. It was described as unplayed. I bought it and of course was very excited waiting for it to arrive. When it arrived i opened the box and discovered it was in very poor condition. It was obvious that it had been played a billion times and the sleeve was creased and bent. So i gave it to a friend of mine who's account is where i bought the ep. I later found out that the guy who sold it to me bought it from someone on the Internet and then sent it straight to me without even opening the packaging !. Eventually i got my money back but I'm a lot more careful now.

A very similar situation happened to me on discogs where I ordered a mint copy of this rare record which came in terrible, unplayable condition. I opened a PayPal dispute with the seller and they suggested sending it back. Once I had subsequently sent the item back the seller accused me of sending him another copy of the album in the terrible aforementioned condition I initially received it in. PayPal closed the claim in sellers favour and I was devoid of all hope. Fortunately I was persistent with PayPal and through my bank I was able to carefully explain the predicament and they promptly refunded me. Usually situations like this don’t often happen but it only takes one dodgy seller!

I'm more of a movie collector myself, but always worried about 'scams' and such. So far all has been good for me with Ebay and all. But I'm sure one of these days I'll see something 'too good to be true' and get hosed. Plus, I'm also a new seller on Ebay, and I guess what's slowing down sales is that I just use regular post for my stuff. No tracking or anything. Keeps costs WAY down for S&H, but then there's the added wait time and angst of safe delivery. But even for those that are panicked where there stuff might be, I keep in contact with them to assure 'hopefully soon'. And so far so good. But yeah, I can see how people would think I'm a scammer too possibly. A shame these dillweeds exist and are so brazen with their schemes.
